PSPS Scottish Branch
Великобритания
Добавлен 23 сен 2017
The Paddle Steamer Preservation Society (PSPS) was founded in 1959 and has a current membership of 2,500. The PSPS has saved two historic paddle steamers - Waverley (1947) and Kingswear Castle (1924).
Waverley - the last sea-going Paddle Steamer in the world was gifted to the PSPS for just £1 and operates in several areas around the U.K.
Kingswear Castle - Britain’s last operational coal-fired Paddle Steamer - was saved by the Society in 1967 when she was purchased for £600.
The Scottish Branch of the PSPS was founded in 1969 by Douglas McGowan MBE. The Branch is one of five Branches of the Society and regularly provides support for Paddle Steamer Waverley.

Introducing Waverley TV (coming this season)
I remember the Jeanie Deans in Millport.
I was on the “Maid” on two school trips and throughly enjoyed them. It’ll be great to see her back again in her original state.thanks for the update, it was very informative.
its sad khowing jeanie deans and ps queen of the south is gone now but atleast we still got waverly and T.S queen mary today 😥
Don't think this will be sailing soon unfortunately. It's a scandal, that our most popular loch, has no decent tourist vessels. Just look at the steamers on the lake district. Right beside our biggest city aswell.
Rest in peace captain. Thank you for this inspiring video, what a legend.
Use't to have school trips on her and the Bristol Queen, great memories
May the Waverley keep going on for Decades to come.
Thanks for showing us mere passengers something we don't get to see in real life! very interesting 👍
big engine cool
Sh yes, putting-greens, when the clubs were still a traditional shape, and not the oddities they became. And the ship's band, and the velvet bag that they passed ouround for contributions.Thank you for helping me remember.
perfect! these vehicles are the most beautfiul things ive seen.
Thank you for the video . My uncle was aboard the Waverley being rescued from the beach at Dunkirk . Unfortunately he did not survive like so many others It was informative to learn exactly what happened to the Steamer . Lest we forget .
Can I get the blueprints for this steamer? I would like to build one in the US. I don't know what the fuel is but I would like to burn old engine oil. It is easy to get.
Excellent illustration of the combination of volunteers, project management, local companies, government funding. A true dedicated crew. Hope to see her sail again, i was on her on the Friday night Jazz Sail on the Loch in the 1960's. Terrific effort Iain.
Another superb talk. It is fantastic to see how well KC is doing. My father would have been really impressed. I remember the day well, when KC swallowed the wake of the container ship. I was crew that day and on the helm next to John.
Notice how orderly and well behaved everyone is
Beautiful ship in stunning conditions, she is the jewel in the Scottish crown! I have my wonderful father to thank for taking me on this awe inspiring vessel as a boy from the Bristol Channel to Glasgow and the Clyde as well as the south coast and Thames. Love the Waverley dearly and can't wait to sail the seas on her again in 2024! ❤🤍🖤
We are working on a waverley upload at the moment after having the pleasure of joining PSW on a trip to London in 2023. Thrilled to donate and support the PSPS
Thank you for your support
My three favourite Clyde steamers with the Queen Mary in her single funnel days. Thank you whoever put this together some wonderful memories
I enjoyed that, thank you
That remaining rust makes me want to weep, but it will likely have been removed by now (end of 2023). It must have been in a dreadful state when restoration was started. Congratulations to all who share in the labour of love that this engine represents. 🙂👍
The pronunciations sound so contrived to our ears. They leave us uncertain as to what comes from the elocution lessons, and what comes from the "real" person!
Thanks for a very detailed explanation of progress. Best wishes for completion. We hope to visit in 2024.
My Mother was a stewardess on her in the 1950,s. Lots of photos have I. Many a good time had I.
Hello,I wonder if your Mum knew my Gran, Mary Hudson. She also worked on the maid in the 50s. Some great people have given their time to this lovely lady
Enjoyed informative presentation. Best of luck will visit.
Thanks a lot Iain, very enjoyable and I look forward to visiting in 2024.
A good looking craft, was it scrapped?
Sadly Yes. After a time on the Thames she was recycled.
how has this video had 5.2 THOUSAND views and only 66 likes! its an outrage!

the horror :(@@PSPSScottishBranch
Fantastic sight , long may she keep going .
What a treasure of a film! Many happy memories of trips on the Clyde steamers! (I love that the Millport donkeys are included, an essential part of a trip to Millport!)
Glad you enjoyed it
A really great video, just a pity that some of the ships are not with us any more.
It is a real shame yes.
i agree:(
I’ve been on The Waverley several times in her home waters, normally from Arran. The sound of her paddles slapping the water is wonderful to hear.
It’s a wonderful sound.
I can’t tell you much joy I get seeing a boat that would have been in the breakers yard in the 1960’s still in active service today. Thank you to all the people that care and preserve this beautiful boat, so people can enjoy and appreciate the technology of an old boat still active and sailing.
Well said!
Glad to see a ship *back* in service Rather than being in the scrapper!
Great video. Nice to see Waverley with the setting sun behind her.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Stunningly beautiful and colourful presentation, Thank You!
Many thanks!
Great Sight!
Beautiful video!
Thank you very much!
Saw this several years ago at Swanage,, wonderful sight
Poole to Swanage 1950s never forgotten brilliant ime 81 now....
It is so good the see her still rock in’ the sea!!❤30yrs maybe of service and she is still pushing strong 😊❤
Waverley is over 3 quarters of a century old now and been in operation under preservation longer than she was in operation commercially.
@@PSPSScottishBranch wow… that is CRAZY!!!
Great British Engineering.
Wait is this that paddle steamer if so that is crazy that it’s survived all these years going through a storm just like that and worse😮
Very Very spectacular, so much lightning 🌩 in a very short term is unique 👌
Indeed!
Puzzled as to why she was going to Gravesend till I saw the amended timetable and the Cowes live camera....choppy! What happens when Waverley gets hit by lightning and is it on wood or metal?
The wooden masts have lightening conductors, steel rigging and a large steel hull - so if struck the vessel is very effectively “earthed” with very very low risk.
She looked amazing! My husband & I travelled on our rib/speedboat to Shoreham to see her, thats us 10mins into your video going past! We took footage at sea of Waverley, including coming past Worthing Pier. I'll upload to my RUclips account (currently on my Facebook)
ruclips.net/user/ZoeImbimbo our videos of Waverley leaving Shoreham, at sea & passing Worthing Pier are now uploaded 😊
I remember as a child when Waverley came 2 cork eire in 1985,we ⛵ sailed 2 Cobh,(or should I say steamed) last port of call for titanic, on 2 youghal (pronounced yawl) and on 2 a very 🌁 foggy Kinsale. The best ever childhood memory. Will she ever come back. Someday soon,I pray 🙏. It nearly 40years. M333 ❤❤❤
Down in Scarborough any chance you're coming down this way great to see Waverley in llindidno 🏴🏴🏴🏴
the waverley is the best
All I see are pilot boats. Where's Waverley ?
The video is taken from onboard Waverley who was very full with passengers. Sorry the video doesn’t meet your expectations. I tried to get a bit more of the ship in towards the end. This was also simply to document the occasion and also the sheer number of spectators who came to simply see Waverley.
@@PSPSScottishBranch There is at least a related video with more of the ship :)
