- Grand gala opening of the new Mariinsky II Theatre in Saint Petersburg, broadcasted live on May 2, 2013. Includes works for orchestra, opera arias and ballet excerps by Stravinsky, Bizet, Verdi, Mozart, Rossini, Mussorgsky, Wagner, Gounod and Tchaikovsky, to name a few, performed by the best artists of Riussian Federation and world stars.
She does a great job. Her emphasis on expression over technical perfection is what makes this Spanish-styled ballet blossom. Would love to see more daring ballets acts like this, ones that are artistically expressive and creative, but retain the revered technique of a ballerina.
Additionally - and I know it's already been said - this piece is absolutely nothing like the Habanera.
I liked Svetlana Zakharova so much too in it !
This isn’t the Habanera, it’s mistitled. This is a part of a ballet choreographed to the music of the Carmen suite, and this piece is the introduction/prelude (the next piece up in the ballet is the Habanera).

Woo! Saw this girl on some RT video about dancing, didn't take much searching to find a video of the performance. Google must REALLY be improving their algorithms to know I'm sub'd to RT and was on a video of Swan Lake to get to where I am right now.
can anybody recommend any more routines like this? it feels more seductive than the usual swan lake dance, and i've been replaying this constantly.

Lovely dancer. Very clean. Not quite the crazy free spirit that was Carmen . Yet difficult to be free to explore this aspect when you have to work so hard to make a poorly fitting chore sit as well as you can into the music. choreographer, I learn this one major necessity more and more . The music must direct the movement when not a mood setter or a purposeful juxtapose , so if the step is simple , common, even boring if it’s own,
Yet it is what the music directs , then the dancer is free and comfortable to give his / her all to it.

This isnt Habanera
you are right... the Havanera is another dance of the Carmen Suite- with the same melody taken from Bizet´s Opera Carmen . Here you can only find little pieces of the Havanera melody.

Also,@Nynaeva, it was a lot better than the weird contortionist thing the Bolsoi was doing in their show, recently. Though I still agree with you. It would be nice if they had the dancer and choreographer watch some flamenco or something, to give them a better idea of what they should be shooting for.

great dancer, but honestly, one shouldn't mix styles which don't go together.
Ballet should be classic, romantic, and graceful. Spanish music and passionate moves don't fit with ballet, no matter how much you try (and fail) to emulate flamenco.
Just how the "arabian dance" from the nutcracker invariably looks nothing like oriental dance^^
