I miss the days when Union Pacific SD40-2's we're dominating the rails. As well as C40-8'S and SD60's before all the Wide cabs started taking over. Those were the good days.
g'day......there's nothing like an sd40-2....best looking best sounding loco of all time surely I believe UP have re fitted a few for a bit more work...great stuff.. cheers..
Veramente delle immagini splendide.Mi sono fatto inspirare per mettere sul mio impianto una composizione (in lunghezza ridotta) con carri merci, agganciati alla mia locomotiva "GE 2010 Evolution Hybrid" in scala H0 AC
It's called a spitter valve. Air that's drawn in by the compressor for the brakes is dried using this valve, and it ensures no moisture is going into the brake chambers.
At the start, SD60 (6049), C40-8W (9359) and the two SD40-2s. Note that there's actually no such thing as an SD50-2, unless some railroads designated locomotives that way. In EMD's nomenclature, dash-2 locomotives are an upgraded version of an earlier non-dash-2 design, mostly with improvemets to the electrical system. Any completely new design introduced after 1972, i.e., anything from the GP/SD50 onwards, was built with the dash-2 systems from day one, so they didn't include the "-2" in the model name.
@@railfanmaximstill7279 EMD never made a locomotive called an SD50-2. If CSX is calling some of their locomotives by that name, it's a name that they invented, as I described in my original comment.
@@redrock717 No they're not. Distributed power is used for the whole journey and is remote-controlled from the lead locomotive. Helpers are added to get the locomotive over one hill (or through a relatively short hilly area) and are controlled by a separate crew.
Colfax: a fantastic place in which to watch passing trains! A colorful town as well.
Awesome sounds of the old 40,s and 50,s cant hear that sound in to many places no more
Man... it is amazing how much UP (most class ones for that matter) has changed in about a decade. Great video.
you can say that again
I miss the old days in 1999 when you saw SP D&RGW & CNW & Cotton Belt
The only locomotives that can get the job done!

Miss seeing power like this on trains
Ah ! Yes SP 7311 still going strong ! ( WE AIN'T DEAD YET!!!)
Very historic turf. The heart of California Gold Country and probaby on the original Central Pacific right-of-way over the Sierra c. 1865.
awesome video. awesome catches. awesome power and lashup's.
The sander nozzle on SD40-2 3257 must have broken off. It was pouring pounds of sand out as the WB started heading down the grade!
Amazing. For these days again!!! Motive Power Variety 💯
you gotta love the sound of the prime-leslie mutts reminds me of the MoPac SD50's and B23-7 from N de M
Sigh... I miss seeing UP SD40-2's on the mainline as well as C40-8CW's and standard cab SD60's!
Only 3 years after UP's takeover of SP, and you'd hardly know this was SP trackage from the abundance of UP units here.
That's the most action I've ever seen in Colfax and I've been there dozens of times going back to the early sixties.
Incredible video... Love this stuff !!!
Its good to see those EMDs on point. great video.
Nice videography, great subject, nice day! I always like good videos of first and second gen emd's.
Thats an awesome change out
That is a lot SD60s, SD50s, SD40T-2 and SD40-2 locomotives.
No tunnel motors in this video. (Unless I missed one, but I don't think I did.)
wow nice work, very awesome, im going up there in a couple weeks cant wait

Hardly any graffiti jointed track searchlight signals and the road crossing sounds good

You don't see these locomotives now
Yep. That DOES look sad.
awsome video
they were just switching engines!
The dash 8 looks new
That was cool!
7311 looks like it was in a fire.
No just old engine they were changing to up probably
Nope, just a dingy old SP unit.
SP sd40 R 7311 ! SP dirt test do not remove ! SP LIVES !
BRILLIANT ❤️🤝
Interesting to note lack of graffiti on most of the cars!
Uni
I agree. All the 'artists' are probably breaking windows in Portland.
poor thing ( the old sp unit)
SP was a great RR, but I think UP runs a better operation on Donner Pass than SP did.
Nice!
You don't these locomotives now
Top!
SP units sad alright...dirty, dingy as always. Probaly part of SP's demise.

I have probably a dumb question what's the constant air release sound from

Whats the horn at the beginning of the vid?
Great
Is that an SD50-2, Dash-8C44, SD40-2 Snoot, and SD40-2?

Old union Pacific
Those helpers are called conductors. The engineer operates the train while the conductor separates the cars by destination and builds trains.
The locos are called helpers. That is why they switched them out. Not the guys on the ground.
Those helpers are called distributed power...
