I want to thank you for this inspiring video. My Wife and I have considered this as a business model ourselves. We live in a northern border state and deal with semi-hot summers and freezing cold winters. This is one kind of business that really helps people and free of empty hype. Thanks again.
I'm actually thinking of starting hydroponic growing for next years tomatoes, peppers, lettuce and beans in my apartment. I think that there is no better flavor than veggies picked at peak ripeness. The grocery stores just can't compare.
I've been trying to start a hydro farm over the last year and, as farming goes sometimes, suffered an almost 100% loss this winter. I had almost given up while trying to start again but this video seriously just gave my passion some new life. This is exactly what I'm trying to get to. Thank you for sharing and the info and inspiration!
this is great, real hydroponics, i just saw a vid that said hydroponic farm but all of the systems were in potted soil and just hooked up to a self watering system. nothing hydroponic about it.
It probably wasn't soil. It was probably coco coir or rice hulls. Hydro can be done a bunch of diffeent ways as long as it's without soil. It's still hydro.
Nice! If you have $300,000 to $500,000 to build an 8000 square ft greenhouse, massive amounts of equipment and employees, you to can start a small scale hydroponic farm.
I would put a flood and drain on the bottom of the vertical system. duckweed or something if I was in a bioponics system. Since hydro you have to buy nutritarian blends.
Sounds like the chefs have them by the ball's.... People should never forget where they get there food from... No farm's no food. Farm's should never be replaceable.
I've done aquaponics before and would love to do it again I have some ideas of how to do it 100% natural. I'm not really interested in hyrdo except to prove it is possible to use 100% natural created nutrients and biology in the system.
Our Dianthus get's used in many ways by chefs, mostly as a garnish and in craft cocktails. The Rockwool that doesn't go out to our customers on living produces goes into our extensive composting program for our soil gardens.
I have a problem with my evaporative cooling pads, they increase the humidity in the greenhouse. is there a way to remove the humidity created by the cooling pads?
From what I've read, rockwool doesn't seem very environmentally friendly or healthy to be around. It can irritate your eyes, skin, and lungs like insulation or asbestos.
We've not had any of those issues. It's been a great product for us and we utilize previously used rockwool to enrich our compost and improve our garden's soil.
Algae only forms where sunlight hits nutrient-filled water so we try to keep the system covered at all times. Also, algae isn't really bad, it just adds some labor to the cleaning process.
I'd have to do a side by side taste test to tell you for sure. I think it would be more noticeable non greens crops. Soil will always be superior because of the relationship between soil biology and plants.
Nature's Always Right I have tried both att the same time. If you have the right balance of nutrients and ph the taste is the same. The hydroponics grow faster, and both methods have their merits!
There's no solultion for completely eliminating them with out using harmful chemical pesticides... we use a ton of beneficial insects and organic pest control practices.
For this video no it was just the Rhode video micro and my Samsung 9. But I just got some awesome Lav mics the Tascam DR-10L. So better audio for interviews coming soon :)
I think it's not necessary to have 18" of solution. 6" is plenty. 3" might be enough. With hydro plants don't have to spend a lot of energy getting water and nutrients.

This is great! I love seeing hydroponic growers who succeed! I wish there was a place like this locally!

the guy defiantly shared a lot of valuable information.
Double thumbs up for Jeff! Thank you for introducing us to your business!

That's awesome!!! Keep at it!
Is this "Small Scale". I dont know how big scale will be in your mind if this is "small".
Geo thermal transfer will cool and warm the water.
We've looked into that but found that it wouldn't be cost-effective in our area!
Holy SH!T-
you're eyes are VERY, very green💚 in this video. I think its the backgrounds that change you're eyes colors!
This is considered small scale? I was more thinking something I could run from my goldfish 😂
this is great, real hydroponics, i just saw a vid that said hydroponic farm but all of the systems were in potted soil and just hooked up to a self watering system. nothing hydroponic about it.

pls make a video on hydro plantation nutrients

This is such a good video really informative thanks for sharing
One thing I missed, is he adding like bacteria or fungi to the water to out compete harmful diseases? How does he keep it disease free? Thanks!
Great presentation. Thank you.
Would you mind sharing what restaurants pay for your lettuce?
amazing, thanks for this guys!
Nature's Always Right... do you know if their floating raft set up static/Kratky or are they circulation the fluid via pump? Great video thank you!
it's a static floating system with airation every 4sqft.
This is a fantastic video thanks
Sounds like the chefs have them by the ball's.... People should never forget where they get there food from... No farm's no food. Farm's should never be replaceable.
No chefs are squeezing us... we survived covid just fine and actually thrived by making a pivot to retail home deliveries. :)
Wow amazing
So does this make you want to get into Hydro or Aquaponics?
I've done aquaponics before and would love to do it again I have some ideas of how to do it 100% natural. I'm not really interested in hyrdo except to prove it is possible to use 100% natural created nutrients and biology in the system.
With hydro you get precise control over nutrients and pH that no other method offers.
and ... everything James Cameron does, he does well.
Do I need full sun to implement this?
So, does he add the dianthus blossoms to his salad mix? And, what does he do with the rockwool when he is finished with it?
Our Dianthus get's used in many ways by chefs, mostly as a garnish and in craft cocktails. The Rockwool that doesn't go out to our customers on living produces goes into our extensive composting program for our soil gardens.
I have a problem with my evaporative cooling pads, they increase the humidity in the greenhouse. is there a way to remove the humidity created by the cooling pads?
if you find out please let me know!!
Greenhouses are the problem, not the solution. Consider putting shade cloth over the OUTSIDE of the greenhouse during warm weather.
So why you plant them in water and not i soil? Im talking about horizontal part.
We are able to grow much more dense and quickly in a hydroponic system with less pest issues than soil growing.
With hydro you get more plants and faster growth per square foot.
From what I've read, rockwool doesn't seem very environmentally friendly or healthy to be around. It can irritate your eyes, skin, and lungs like insulation or asbestos.
So throw it out with the roots....
We've not had any of those issues. It's been a great product for us and we utilize previously used rockwool to enrich our compost and improve our
garden's soil.
Coconut coir works great ;)
I use coco coir.
How do hydroponic growers prevent the growth of algae in their systems?
Algae only forms where sunlight hits nutrient-filled water so we try to keep the system covered at all times. Also, algae isn't really bad, it just adds some labor to the cleaning process.
Omg who’s the dark handsome host of the channel 🥰
Wish I could find some one in Poland who speaks English and does hydroponics
can you reuse poly boards cheers
Yes, they seem to last for about 5-7 years.
Audio....compression is your friend
how do you control the pest? aphids, etc..... ..
benificial insects and organic IPM
Would you say it tastes as good as your soil grown lettuce?
Yes it does!
Wondering how he handled the blizzard
Luckily we had back up generators... It cost us a ton in propane but we made it through with very little loss. Follow us on social for updates!!
Cool Farm. What brix readings did you get ?
Lovely farm!! I'm working on having a setup like this. What sort of growing medium do you use for your lettuce? I'm an aspiring hydroponic grower. :)
I use coco coir in net cups to start pelleted seeds from Johnny's.
"small scale": can feed a colony of at least 20 people
After all is it possible to make 10k mounthly clean net profit? We would like to coperate with you to start it in east
Thanks
it is, but that's more than we can net on our scale of farming at this size...
"SMALL SCALE"??? awesome tho :)
It is big but it's just one greenhouse so it is small scale compared to most hydroponic farms.
How do you prevent pest like aphids and caterpillars from getting to your crops?
I'm assuming this is a closed system to the outside. Many greenhouse of this type has a blower to walk through or they check you for critters.
There's no solultion for completely eliminating them with out using harmful chemical pesticides... we use a ton of beneficial insects and organic pest control practices.
Fly strips, Dawn in water.
0:28 did you still his eyebrows and add them to yours?
I saw on a recent video that you upgraded your camera. Did you upgrade audio as well?
For this video no it was just the Rhode video micro and my Samsung 9. But I just got some awesome Lav mics the Tascam DR-10L. So better audio for interviews coming soon :)
are they speakers???? 5:47
They are!! the plants (and employees) love to listen to some reggae!
fuckin sick
There's nothing "small" about this farm. If it was a "normal" farm and not hydroponic, it would be many acres of farm land
must be pretty costly to set up
suprising less than you may think since we purchased mostly used equipment :)
I think it's not necessary to have 18" of solution. 6" is plenty. 3" might be enough. With hydro plants don't have to spend a lot of energy getting water and nutrients.
Is this small scale 🤔🤔
yep look pretty large scale
@@danielbaronne753 that greenhouse is only 8k sqft... as far as farming goes... pretty small scale.
@@profoundfarms IN MY COUNTRY that would be considered a huge farm
those eyebrows!!!
