If you have suggestions for things to explode next OR for better motor please let us know :D I will at least explode some large grinder disks on next video to see how dangerous they are when mounted to fast grinder, with some ballistic gelatin off course :D
Add two gears and bring that thing to over 100k that will explode everything
HOLY SHEET THAT WAS FUCKINK AWESOME!
Possibly an air tool may work in place of the motor
You should have pulsed the power on initial startup as to not burn out the windings once sufficient speed is gained then it would have been ok
Make a system to release the wheel, and let it go away into the wild xD
I seriously want to see this bicycle wheel ripping apart. Like for part 2!
Iakwbos Nomik same!
They just need to accelerate slower
Or use a pneumatic or hydraulic motor
If they had spin started the wheel the router would have been ok. It could not survive the startup load.
The problem was that the motor was generating a lot of heat due to the load, but wasn't spinning fast enough for its internal fan to cool its windings adequately. You might rig up a leaf blower to force air through the motor to cool it when it's running slow under high load.
I love the "magic smoke" concept, we talk about it all the time at work :D
Yep :D I thought that there would be somekind of heat shield on machine like this but no :D
No smoke - machines don't work.. Simple rule!
@@Beyondthepress there kind of is, but it only works at high speeds
Pity you can't get the refills any more.
One of the best jokes ever and he described it just perfect, love it 😂
With a small smoke canister you could refill the Router and it would be good as new 🤣
Lmmfao
Ha haaaaa!! Was he joking
It needs to ber magic smoke, so you'll need to get it blessed or enchanted depending on the manufacture's specs.
You are stupid !!!!!!!!!
Yeah, but no china smoke, you need to put back in, the *same* smoke, or a factory made new one; it comes packaged.

hook a variac up to the motor and ramp it up slowly so it doesnt burn out but still get high RPM
Do you watch the Photonicinduction channel?
Captain Heat I had this exact same thought. The infeed current is burning the windings up before it can even spin fast enough to cool itself.
While a variac may limit the motor's stall current, the motor is only designed for high RPM and the light load of router bits. At low low speeds, the motor's cooling fan is ineffective and the motor may still overheat during the power-limited acceleration from lack of airflow.
its due to the high amps at starting, the windings are just to small to handle the current over longer time, the cooling fan wil not help in this case.< its a series motor, build for high rpm, the higher the rpm, the lower the current it draws.
I agree with this suggestion
This channel is always doing some crazy, pushing the limit, mythbustery shit.. And I like it👍

I was reading through these comments and he said this the same time I read this. It was great.
Hasn't been watching them has he. Some of their videos are quite explosive.
The thing was slow Mo guys versus hydraulic press Channel and Beyond The Press is slow Mo guys do 99% of their recording in a backyard, so they pretty much have to do stuff that is relatively safe because there's a lot of people that live near them. these guys however live in the middle of freaking nowhere, so they can do stuff that's a little bit more dangerous because of her projectile goes flying say 100 some odd meters it probably won't hurt anyone in any way because they either own that land or no one owns that land. Think of it like demolition ranch, Matt has a huge ranch that he owns which is why he can afford to do all that really stupid stuff because that's his property so if someone gets hurt then they shouldn't have been trespassing. It's a similar thing with these guys
Unfortunately you are not going to be able to spin a wheel that size up, as 30k RPM would mean a tyre speed of about Mach 3. 1kg of material at that speed has 1MJ of kinetic energy. IE in a vacuum it would take a 1000W motor near 17 minutes to spin it up to speed. A normal bike wheel is more like 2.5kg assuming 700C and 25mm tyre with all steel construction. That would mean more like 3/4 hour. Even at 75m/s we are talking 14kJ kinetic energy which is only a little less than an M107 12.7mm muzzle energy. Basically if it hit your arm it would not just break it - it would take it off and 20mm plexiglass would be about as effective as fog in stopping it. So please be careful.

Yes, but he should do it anyway.
Because science
Oh ya I get it totally
Great explanation! Maybe help the wheel up to speed with another motor rubbing against the tire and then turn on the router. Or try a 1hp 3450RPM motor to see the results.
THis is another example that electrical things run on smoke. let the smoke out and they quit.
Plus the wheel would have to be amazingly balanced to reach even 1000 rpm.
I think you should’ve given the bicycle wheel a good pre-spinning by hand before plugging in the router. That way the tool wouldn’t have to labor so hard just to get it moving and use up all of its smoke and fail.
What the hell is all this smoke talk
..lol. there is no smoke in a motor...
dominic bender there is too smoke in a motor. That's how you know the motor has failed. When you let the smoke out of it. In fact at 7:42 in this video is when he starts to let the smoke out, and the motor begins to fail. He even talks about letting all the smoke out at 9:00.
I doubt it would help. The two issues that cause the motor to fail at low rpm is drawing too much current through the motor windings and reduced cooling from the built in fan running too slow. Even at 1000 rpm it's spinning at 1/30 of the designed speed.
Well it is technically melting the brushes and turning them into smoke, until the poppet popped in the brush, so you’re right in a way
@GardenasFinestSGGC - Electronics run on smoke as well. Trust me. If you let the smoke out of anything electronic it stops working.
(OK - It is a long running joke. Either you are a 6 year old with no sense of humour or you are actually the stupid one.)
Lauri!? I didn't know you would quit this easily! You guys can't let the bicycle tire win! You must deal with it!
it could attack at any moment!
It's genuinely shocking. You know he has a variac somewhere and you also know that he thought of using it, but he didn't for some reason. Follow up video maybe?

Next time try using premium smoke instead of regular smoke!! and make sure the smoke cap is really tight!! don't let the smoke out!!!😁😁😁

Underrated
SUGGESTION
The majority of the damage to the motor is the current draw when its starting and at low speeds. Set up a stand next to the wheel with a leaf blower to pre-spin the wheel somewhat and the motor may survive round 2.
Thats what i was thinking. And possibly use the variable speed on the router. Start it up slowly. Could be done with a light dimmer?
👍 The cooling system of the unit probably only works well at near full speed, so after spinning up with leaf blower leave it on and force air through the router to keep it cool. Better yet use compressed air if available.
@@knifejames8163 good luck finding a dimmer that can handle that much current. The triac in the router was getting a workout as it is.
It's not only the weaker cooling of the fan, it's the lack of back-EMF at low speeds, so you get more current than you would at full speed. The inertia is too much of a load then.
yep, around 3 times at start.

I think best way to high RPM and torque is a burshless setup running on 4car batterys , you can get 1-3kw brushless RC Motors pretty cheap from china
Large lipos can do way more current than car batteries
@@tommihommi1 maybe but not for a resonable prize . 4 car batteries will give you over 50v with a max oft 400amps without getting hot or shir
That is the best idea, plus they would have remote control.
That would be really nice as well. Those also don't have the start up problem that you have using a power tool as motor. The motor and gearing in power tools isn't designed to start with a heavy load on them. So if you just apply full mains voltage from a stand still, the heat loss will be huge and the motor heats up a lot before the wheel get up to speed. For the brush less motors the controller apply a low voltage (and low frequency) from start, then gradually increase. That means they will heat up much less. Then when the wheel get up to speed they will also have the power to get up to high RPM
Buy the Turnigy Super EDF motor. Max rpm is 30,000rpm. I have it in a rc plane that can go 200mph.
This channel is so much cooler than those ones that use equipment that probably costs 10s of thousands of dollars and a team of engineers to set up. This is real backyard engineering!

Instead of connecting it straight onto the router, perhaps have a few pulleys and gear up another electrical motor, then there is some slippery on the pulleys to get the bicycle wheel going fast enough. Nice try though! try a go cart wheel, and a kids bike wheel perhaps?

XD
what if you give your motor unlimited energy, then some cosmic mumbo jumbo happens and accelerate's the fragents into orbit, to escape velocity, galactic escape velocity, and then get caught in Messier 51?
yep you need at least 6 or 7 kw of power to overcome the air drag from the spokes of the wheel and you don't need 30k rpm motor one that spin around 8k to 10k rpm will be more that enough to destroy it for that matter a big angle grinder like a 200mm size grinder will do and you wont need more than about 1.5kw of power to spin it still was an interesting video :)
he got it to 70MPH not too bad
what if you get something that needs over 20k rpm b4 it explodes? then a 30k rpm motor would be nice. He should get 2 motors with different RPM lol

yes but there are multiple things that can make it let the magic smoke out :D motor, control circuit, trigger, cabling and so on :P
chinsy windings let the smoke out, no doubt. This machine probably has no electronics at all in it.
toilet brush in this case it had nothing to do with epoxy, but just with the thickness of the windings and the lack of a thermal switch. Epoxy etc can help against mechanical load, such as vibrations, making the tool last long when used "normally".
I would love to see AvE dissect this with his amazing bumblfuckery to see whose theory is correct.

In the US and the UK that's a cheap arse router pronounced rowter (ow as in cow), but in the UK a Wi-Fi router is pronounced rooter (oo as in root). Don't ask me why, it just is.
Wi-Fi router is derived from 'route' as in routing traffic. This word is also pronounced like 'root' in English and mispronounced like 'rout' in American. The tool is a router (rowter) which is derived from 'rout' - which is the cutting action the tool performs and also the word for when an army is utterly defeated and flees from the battlefield.
According to my dictionary, the tool is derived from the word 'root' via the rooting action of pigs and generally hollowing or digging stuff out which makes its pronunciation even more confusing. It's always a mistake to expect languages to be logical.
@@petehiggins33 especially English!
Main problem is that the English pronunciation changed a few centuries ago, but the spelling didn't. Second problem is that there aren't enough letters for all the sounds English uses. So if English people are retards it's probably because so much of their brain capacity is already occupied by the obscure spelling rules.
@@benketteridge9150 who's to say what's mispronounced? The English language has borrowed words from Greek, Latin French, etc, and all of them are "mispronounced" when compared to the original.
