Go to an upholstery shop and have them make a marine grade cap that'll go over the top rear hatch door with over lapping sides by 4 to 5 inches, which will prevent water from finding it's way in. Strong magnets will keep it in place
Thanks for showcasing. Yeah, it's not designed for heavy storm use, but considered a 3-season, fair weather way to enjoy additional cubic volume in your Element. If wanting to live in it for heavy rain use, I'd suggest scotch-guarding it for additional protection plus seeing where there may be potential water intrusion spots to see if a rain fly would help, just like with any outdoor tent.
