The keyring is importantt to me which is why I always would choose the Farmer. I have a lanyard made of velcro tape on every SAK I use, especially the ones with a saw. The lanyard loop serves 3 purposes.
1) Makes it easy to get the knife out and without checking I know which side the tools open
2) Velcro tape is a useful item in it's own right
3) Safety loop for the fingers when cutting and especially when using the saw. My loop / lanyard has exactly the length for 3 or 4 fingers. When gripping tight on the handle it is basically impossible for the hand to slip off the grip onto the saw.
A saw can always get stuck in the wood. Thereby your hand might still move onto the saw and cause flesh wounds. The loop trick is not foolproof but significantly decreses that risk. The last thing you want somehwere a bit remote is to deal with a bleeding fleshwound caused by a saw that ripped into your fingers.
That last blade could be used for pruning, I think.
100% Agree. As a community volunteer (firefighter and gardener), this has been my go-to knife for the past 10 years. The thicker blade stock on the Alox knives is welcome. The hawksbill blade gets more use than I could have ever imagined. My only minor gripe is with the saw: it could be a little more substantial and really needs some form of liner lock (legal for a saw in most countries)… Keep up the cool reviews.
Little correction, the medium pocket knife from the collection alox are 84mm long for the "small" one, exactly like any other collection, so the bantam and the cadet are 84mm long as their equivalent in other collection, but the "standard" size alox knife like the swiss army 7, the farmer, the pioneer, etc... are 93mm long, 2mm longer than other "standard" size victorinox.
I've just upgraded to the Farmer X. Been using the Farmer for decades. Looked at the 7 but decided I didn't want to give up the can opener.
The in-line reamer is a perfect package opener.
1/2 of the video and still nothing about using the knife 👎
Harvester used to be the official name of this model before they started to call some models "Swiss Army [number]".
The bigger Alox are 93 mm, not 91.
Very often, even Victorinox themselves used to refer to these Alox models as 91 mm, even in their catalogs. But I have no idea why. They are obviusly a little longer than the 91 mm Cellidor knives.
I think all the alox knives are awesome value. I accidentally took mine on a plane on route to Portugal from the UK . I forgot it was in the side pocket of my bag. Guess that's how EDC they are 😅. I considered throwing it away as I didn't want to check my bag on the way back but thought i'll just "forget" again and see what happens. Well I still have it .
Great video👌🏻
Did security just not see it then? Normally ANY type of pointed or sharp implement, they want to confiscate.
@@steveclark.. not only did they just not see it but they did the same on the way back. Like I said I thought about throwing it to avoid any trouble but just took a chance and nothing was said. Great knife though I'm glad I took the chance 👍🏻
@@KD__. Thanks for replying.👍
This model has a special place in my heart. EDCed it for years, combined with a Vic Manager. Nowadays it's the Electrician, Tinker or Recruit. The Manager still lives on the keychain. Greetings
I like that knife a lot, but I need a key ring, so it would hang vertically in my pocket. I love my Pioneer X for that reason. Thanks!
I love the alox knives, but i cant seem to give up putting a small ferro rod in the scale tool toothpick slot. So while i prefer the alox options in all other respects, Iend up carrying a huntsman or a wenger s-18 daily and a rangergrip camping or hiking. Good call on the hooked blade. I wish Alox had tool slots:(
I had hard time choosing between Farmer and Army 7.
I liked that Farmer have keyring, but on the other hand i liked hooked blade of Army 7.
At the end i chose Army 7,but i was little annoyed that it doesn't have that simple keyring.
I agree. I don't get why a SAK named Army S7 or Harvester does not feature the keyring.
Fantastic video - thank you. I have not really considered the Swiss army 7 - but I will do now. My favourite Alox is the Pioneer x Alox. Great urban carry as the scissors are brilliant. The same Awl of course which is excellent.
I have the Pioneer X and it's great. The farmer X would be better because it also has a saw but it seems to be a rare model to find.
Wonderful video, a new aesthetic and narrative standard for product reviews! Keep up the good work Tobias.
Nice vid👍
Fantastic knife🤠
Lovely pictures 📷
Just carry a Swisschamp in the leather pouch on your belt as I do, everything covered, job done.
If you've ever used an Army 7 you never go back.
Easy to replace until it gets discontinued like many other victorinox
sometimes when he says he has been hiking non stop for 2 hours i think like he meant to say 2 minutes hehehe
Been eyeing this one up for a while. Nice overview and nature shots. On another note, is that an exotac ferro rod
I keep watching your videos and ordering stuff 😂
OMG, love the small cutting board! Where can one get THAT??? Keep up the great work (did you make it home before the sunset?)
I've got several SAKs including the brand new New York Lifestyle model only last week. However I haven't got any of the Alox ones mainly due to not having tweezers and toothpick built in any of them? If or When Victorinox do design them to include these in the future I will be pulling the trigger asap!!
I'd just use the awl to open packages.😉
It is a 93 mm size
Great video always
Nice vid mate
An edc without scissors is not an edc for me.
8mins in and still didn't say what is in the army 7. This has to be the easiest video I ever watched in my life
People can always look up the description of what's in it. What is way more important is showing real life examples of the tools in specific SAKs.
Is the blade steel good enough?
No, not for hard work
Not if you want it to be sharp when you use it next. I swear they go blunt pocket.
What jacket are you wearing
Its the Fjällräven Granit Shirt
@@TobisTings cheers. Just ordered now plus the knife but the farmer x version. I need a scissors and my current edc penknife was just a little big so I ended up not carrying it much
Sigh … good footage. Might need to subscribe 😢😅
