A couple problems with the deck: 1: explore is only good IF you have a 2nd from land in your hand to play on the turn you cast it 2: warping wail should be an auto include for any trim sideboard because of crumble to dust 3. Ghost quarter and sanctum of Ugin are 2 extremely useful utility lands that improve consistency, help bad matchups, protects you from a wide range of disruption, and don't add much cost to the deck 4. If you can cast a world breaker you probably dont want to target a stony silence unless you already have a vault in play and also have mana to activate, and you will die next turn 5. I would play at least 3 pyroclasm (substitute for explore probably) because of the speed of the format. Even then, pyroclasm is poorly positioned in the current meta due to a lesser number of larger threats. 6. Relic of progenitus is also a fantastic card that tron can main deck. It costs 1, worst case scenario it cycles at 1 mana spread into 2 activations, its decent against dredge at the right time, makes Goyf and flayers small, stops snapcaster, stops e wit, stops kolaghans command/fulminator mage...... 7. You should NEVER expect vault to help you against agro decks since you can't activate it until turn 4 or 5, and by then the aggressive deck will have already won 8. Hellkite destroys, vault exiles, anhiliator is sacrifice........ these are all extremely important differences. Additionally, the budget tron player should expect, especially with this extremely budget build, to realistically get tron on turn 4/5 in most games. I consider myself as quite an experienced tron player, I currently play g/w which I believe is positioned much better against rgs worst matchups. Feel free to discus
You mentioned you run g/w eldrazi, what kind of list does that look like? I don't know if your list is also budget but if it isn't, would you have any recommendations for making it budget? Thanks in advance for any advice you can give!
Do you have a recommendation for a budget oblivion stone option? Because I feel like he chose that card because it was the only budget option he could find for oblivion stone
I've started building a budget Tron deck myself and I noticed that your build is remarkably similar to mine. I like how we both picked up on the super cheap super powerful Bane of Bala Ged and Steel Hellkites. Great video. I'll probably watch again to refer back to later.
Don't forget to vote for the next budget deck. Your options are: Mono-Green Stomp, Isset Delver, Mono-Blue Mill, Eldrazi Nettle Combo. Also would you be interested in seeing Frontier Decks on the channel? Leave a comment bellow if you would?
One step ahead of you. Look in the top right of the video. There is a poll for the next deck. Once the channel gets big enough I will stop asking in the comments. But until then I'll prompt the conversation. Thanks for the concern :)
@Austin Mccully got it! Only Jeskai Black or Super Abzan. No. Thanks for the feed back I'll start work on some decks. We'll see what I come up with. I don't have much experience with the format yet so it'll take some time.
I love this deck and I have decided that this deck is going to be the deck I am using for a regional championship in North Carolina. I love this channel and I love the decks that are built here.
I love all your decks, I think I am going to build this, but replace myr battlesphere with x3 conduit of ruin and 1x kozilek the great distortion to set up an end game turn four, it'll give that gas to finish them off without adding much to the price
While this is old it def seems like this is great for people just getting into modern and looking for a budget way to get into Tron. These cards may not be Karn or Ugin. But they still do the job Tron decks need, big hard to beat plays by turn 3 or 4.
It's old but I still reply to comments. Also for modern it is not that outdated.I don't think there is much I would change in it at this point. And you are exactly right this is targeted at people wanting to get into Modern but not having enough to get the top deck outright. That's why i have an upgrade section at the end of the video to push people in a good direction when they want to upgrade.
The only exception is when you run a copy of It that Betrays. It's usually just a "win more" card but oh so satisfying taking their hard earned board. 99% of the time, MY hard earned board. (Sad Face emoji)
You can save some money on the Tron lands themselves by buying different editions of them. You don't need the expensive ones, you can by Chronicle copies for 20 cents each.
Wow that was such an entertaining video; your points were well illustrated and the deck list was well planned out (with ways to upgrade it at the end). A+ for you and I am subscribing to this channel ^_^
As other budget friendly options i would suggest Kozilek, the Great Distortion+ Sanctum of Ugin to find him and Urza´s Factory. I tested both close after the Eye of Ugin ban in non-budget GR Tron and they worked realy well for me. Factory gives you something usefull to fetch lategame to dump your mana. Kozilek might seam underwhelming at first but his casttrigger restocks your hand (drew me around average 5 cards ) and he is not that easy to remove since most of the common removal in Modern are CMC 1 or 2 and with a restocked hand you should atleast have one or two cards to pitch to his ability that you woun´t have any use for at that point in the game (f.e. Expedition Map or Sylvan Scrying). Sanctum would be another lategame fetch target to up your consitency to find threats to chain.
These are all very good suggestions and would make great upgrades to the deck. I largely went the way I did to keep the cost down. I know for some people the difference between $90 and $110 is a lot. Thanks for the Ideas and feedback.
perilous vault is a good budget cop out for o stone, but it affects your field too, so if you run blue tron like me it kinda sucks because i want to keep my mindslaver and wurms, ect. on the field. where as o stone would let me choose what i have on my field after cracking it. but i do have to say this is a good build imo. id use it as a start up towards r/g tron since you have some of the main pieces already in the deck.
I've found that Explore is is very useful. It lets us ramp or mana and dig for cards we need, tron, creatures or other. As for Kozilek, the answer is strong yes.
Not sure oblivion stone is a “direct upgrade”... I mean it’s cheaper to cast which is great, and let’s you save some of your stuff, but it doesn’t exile. Which means graveyard strategies are barely effected and anything indestructible stays. I certainly wouldn’t say it’s worse, just different..
I think this should've cut the ancient stirrings, but in another terrarion. Karplusan forest in the mana base, and a few Sanctum of ugin. 1 more World Breaker 1 less bane of bala ged. Would've taken it up to like 100, but makes the deck so much better.
Well done Video. Love your explainings. I run the budget version wirhout Planeswalkers. Now i want to upgrade the deck a little bit. Want to have a Ulamog, the careless Hunger and Eye of Ugin in it. How much cards of Ulamog and Eye of Ugin makes sense and what do I need to replace?
Giant Monster Games Thank you for the quick response. Then i will forget about Eye of Ugin and replace 2 Steelkite with 2 Ceaseless Hunger. Terrion will also be replaced as suggested in the Video. Love to try the deck on FNM with friends 😊
Sir I got a question, i hope u will reply on it. So here is my situation, im am looking for a strong modern budget deck and i dont know which to choose from (budegt tron or upgradet modern coco elves) espacially in respecht of the upcoing Dominaria Release with cards like damping sphere as a tron counter and steel leaf champion as an nice upgrade for the elve deck. Which one would u recommend?
+Clifford Warner I found Terrarion was just more helpful in the early game when this deck need to pick up the pace. Prophetic Prism is a turn2 play, turn 3 use. Just too slow for me.
Here is my process. For you and any one else that is interested. Step 1. I find, see, play against, stumble upon or someone suggests: an interesting card, combo, interaction or archetype. - or - I look for top 8 decks and experiment how how that deck can be made into a budget version. Step 2. I do some research, look around at what other people are doing with similar decks, both budget and non-budget. Well I do this I dump every card that seams relevant to the deck into a giant tappedout.net deck list. Once I'm happy with what I have I take all the cards that are over $3 - $4 and make a list of non budget cards that would work in the deck. This is normally in a google doc. Step 3. Time for refinement. I start taking out the cards that just don't match up with the decks end objective. Often during this proses I cross reference the expensive cards to see if nay of them are "Must Includes". Also during this process I will spend time on gatherer.wizards.com and mtgassist.com looking for cards that can fill the needs of the deck that may not be used in other decks. Also I look for cards that are close to expensive cards that may be suitable replacements. Perilous Vault as a replacement for oblivion stone was found this way. Step 4. I ask myself the following questions 1. How does this deck beat the top 8 decks? (Tron, Dredge, Aggro, Control, Combo, exc...) 2. If I lost any 1 card out of this deck could the deck still win? 3. What is the decks Win condition? What is the backup win condition? 4. Can I make this deck cheaper well still keeping it competitive? Step 5. Finally, once I fight the deck down to 60 cards + Sideboard I start play testing. From here I iterate on the deck. Changing out what is not working for other cards that I think may work. Often I bounce back and forth between Step 3 and Step 5 until I feel the deck Is as good as I'd like it to be. The deck does not need to be 100% perfect (I'd never post a deck if it was) It needs to be Competitive, Comprehensive and most of all Fun. Did I mention that I do Board Game Design? It's the same process. Hope that helps shine some light on how I make my decks. Maybe one day I'll make a video going into more details. Thanks for the Question, Cheers, from Adrian!
no more then any other Tron deck. The big thing with any tron deck is they are very fast at getting lands into play. so by turn 5 or 6 you can be playing win cons with out without tron.
It's all good. Endless one is best being cast for 3-5 mana. especially in a multi colour deck. But once you get into the 7+ range there are just way better spells / creatures for the same casting cost.
Ask them why THEY are playing crumble to dust? it's a super budget card. But in actuality can normally rush out enough lands to survive / cast our giant robots. I'd say I've would 1/4 of my games without Tron.
Oh yah the deck is fast enough and has so much land fetching that it's hard for your opponent to stop you from casting all the creatures. Also if your opponent dosen't have an answer to the deck by turn 3 you'll most likely have Tron and a giant creature on the table.
Fair, love these deck techs, I am slowly moving in to Modern, KEEP EM COMING! If you could take a request, would you mind presenting your view on budget infect? Mono Green as well as Simic would be really interesting to see :D
Don't tell anyone but I have a burning hate for Infect. But I may (begrudgingly) make a budget version of the deck if people request it enough. Did you bot for the next Budget deck? Mono-Green Stomp is on the list. I'm still working on a Simic build so keep your eyes open for upcoming "vote" cards. It my just pop up.
you need to start reading these cards. Annihilator is NOT what Bane has, because Bane exiles those cards: Annihilator sacrifices them. also, attacking with Ulamog does NOT put the top twenty card into the graveyard. it exiles them. exile and graveyard are very different
sorry. I realize that comment came off as kind of dickish. it is a great video overall. I was merely trying to positively criticize it. no hard feelings?
It's all good and a valid point. Someone pointed out that if I'm going to be making videos that are targeted at people new to magic that I should take care to give the correct info as not to create confusion for them as they learn the game. I also have to work on my pronunciation of card names but that one is much harder for me, as I have some pretty bad dyslexia.
@@ryanbouchard2907 He didn't say it is "like Annihilator". He literally said, that Bane of Bala Ged has the equivalent of Annihilator, which is simply a false statement. I'm NOT trying to be mean to GMG, just stating something. You don't to go full "White Knight" and try to protect GMG. We aren't insulting him, we are just asking him to pay a bit more attention to these details, because they are important.
The price of the deck is pulled from Tappedout.net ( tappedout.net/mtg-decks/budget-urza-tron-90/ ) This site pulls the average card price form TCGplayer. you can always get the cards cheaper if you hunt for them. But I would feel like a crook if I told people that they can build this deck for $66 when in reality most people will play closer to $90 at the LGS or most online cards stores like Starcity, card kingdom, Magic Stronghold or Face to Face.
You make a comment about Tron powering out giant robots, but it's usually, at least in its non-budget Modern from, powering out some Eldrazi, which I would more describe as...a giant monster??? Ehh? EHHHH???
I mention in the video that I don't feel that $90 is very budget. Most of my budget decks are $40-$60. If you still feel that is not very budget then unfortunately magi is not the game for you.
COYADD well lets put things like this, if the average price for a car is 15k, a good car selling for 2k is considerated budget. the same aplies to mtg, since modern decks cost on average 400/600 or even more. cof cof jund
Dude, you gotta work on your pronunciation. "Priorless" instead of "Perilous"? "Ancestral" instead of "Ancient"?? It's like, can you even read? How do your words even make sense on a Magic card?
perilous vault is a good budget cop out for o stone, but it affects your field too, so if you run blue tron like me it kinda sucks because i want to keep my mindslaver and wurms, ect. on the field. where as o stone would let me choose what i have on my field after cracking it. but i do have to say this is a good build imo. personally id use it as a start up towards r/g tron since you have some of the main pieces already in the deck.
I agree in mono Blue Tron this is not really a replacement. But in this decks we're running so many creatures that we can bounce back form a board wipe fast. Thanks for the support on the deck.
If you're playing Mono-U Tron and you have Mindslaver in play you should've already won. There are very few games piloting U-Tron where you're putting counters on permanents with O-Stone.
i only ever put it on the stuff i actually want to keep on the field for taking the offensive after wipe, but it'll only ever be like 2 maybe 3 things at the most if its more than two people playing
dat moment when a mythic is a budget alternative to a rare
A couple problems with the deck:

Yes frontier decks
Upgrading archetypes that maybe didnt get a chance to take off in their standard environments
Not just jeskai black or super abzan
@Austin Mccully got it! Only Jeskai Black or Super Abzan. No.

Sweet! That is awesome to hear people taking my deck out. How has it been preforming.
It has been doing well at Friday night magic for me. I have been going 4-0 or 3-1. The only deck I have been having trouble with beating is storm.
I love all your decks, I think I am going to build this, but replace myr battlesphere with x3 conduit of ruin and 1x kozilek the great distortion to set up an end game turn four, it'll give that gas to finish them off without adding much to the price

Just looking back at this video from 2022. So glad that Tron lands are now cheaper.
The eldrazi just seem so ridiculous in terms of power level. I could not even imagine what it was like playing standard when they were around
Annihilator makes you sacrifice permanents, bane of bala ged exiles them which is better, just btw.
... you are correct. I didn't notice that. Either way OUCH for your opponent.
and Ulamog is not milling your opponent for 20 cards but he exiles them
The only exception is when you run a copy of It that Betrays. It's usually just a "win more" card but oh so satisfying taking their hard earned board. 99% of the time, MY hard earned board. (Sad Face emoji)

Tyler Preece luckily in mono u tron, you only need 1, possibly 2 O-stone. not the full 4 R/G tron usually uses.
Great deck tech! Can't wait to see more
did you vote for the next deck? It's in the top right of the video!
Just did, thanks for letting me know!
This deck is awesome, inspired me to make my own version!
Incredibly well made videos Keep up the great work!
Thanks for the support! I'll keep them coming.
How relevant is Explore in here? Also would Kozilek, the Great Distortion be any good in here?
I've found that Explore is is very useful. It lets us ramp or mana and dig for cards we need, tron, creatures or other. As for Kozilek, the answer is strong yes.
Not sure oblivion stone is a “direct upgrade”... I mean it’s cheaper to cast which is great, and let’s you save some of your stuff, but it doesn’t exile. Which means graveyard strategies are barely effected and anything indestructible stays. I certainly wouldn’t say it’s worse, just different..
what about tooth and nail?
nah, too expensive
I think this should've cut the ancient stirrings, but in another terrarion. Karplusan forest in the mana base, and a few Sanctum of ugin. 1 more World Breaker 1 less bane of bala ged. Would've taken it up to like 100, but makes the deck so much better.

no problem
You are doing well mate. Good work on this deck 👍👍
Isn't Emrakul banned or am I mistaken.
Just found your channel, love these budget decks!
Thanks! Did you see in the top right hand corner of the video, you can vote for the next deck?
How would you counter this deck?
So I have one Karn, one Ugin, one Ulamog, and the new Emrakul. Everything else I have or can get. How would you build it?
Minor flub... @9:10 ish.
ulamog exiles the top 20 cards, they do not simply go to graveyard. Cool vid tho
hey man any updates you would make to the deck nowadays?
Budget wise. Not really. I may push up the budget a bit and try some Eldrazi beat downs. Reality smasher is kinda awesome.
You can replace 2 Steel hell kites for Ulamog. As for Eye of Ugin it is banned in Modern :(
Giant Monster Games Thank you for the quick response. Then i will forget about Eye of Ugin and replace 2 Steelkite with 2 Ceaseless Hunger. Terrion will also be replaced as suggested in the Video. Love to try the deck on FNM with friends 😊
YAH! Let me know how you do.
Bane of Bala Ged makes defending player *exile* instead of sacrificing.
New subscriber from Argentina. :D
Good luck with those videos
PD: Try to correct errors with annotations in the video
Glad to have you aboard. Unfortunately you cant use annotations and End screens in the same video. Sooo... :(
Tron does make a giant Robot. 7 mana = Karn 90% of the time
I reaallly want to play modern, but I'm not rich, so these videos are really great for me. :)
Glad this has helped you get into modern. It's fun but yah expensive if you are playing the top 8 decks.
love the deck! 👍
what do all the upgrades replace?
+Sylvester Kammerman for the most part the creatures. For the plains walkers and eldrasi there are no 1 for 1 replacement.
Thoughts on this slightly revised add a bit more money deck? tappedout.net/mtg-decks/budget-tron-kinda/
Looks Good! Theses are the types of upgrades that make this deck Awesome!
I think else is better at the moment.
Elves
Thanks I appreciate it
another budget option now is probably hangarback walker
+crazycid &t-baggins Hangerback is a good option but it's not that budget. Yet.
Giant Monster Games i just checked its price 😂 did not realize it was around 5$ each
So, why would you not run prophetic prism in the deck?
+Clifford Warner I found Terrarion was just more helpful in the early game when this deck need to pick up the pace. Prophetic Prism is a turn2 play, turn 3 use. Just too slow for me.
Giant Monster Games yah, i forgot prophetic prism was a 2 drop, so it makes more sense now
It's all good. If this was a solid 2 colour deck I would have run it, but because we are just splashing red I felt it was unnecessary.
Giant Monster Games yah, that makes sense, I feel like your decision was a good one looking back at prophetic prism! Lol
Dont Forget if you got a few dollars pick up a few Walking Ballistas from Aether Revolt the XX Cost is amazing in Tron when it can shot 6 dmg+
YAH! that set came out after this video was mad but it's an awesome Upgrade.
Its Price spiked incredibly high unfortunatly. Got only 1 Copy for myself from Prerelease Event -.-
Hopfuly after It rotates out of standard it'll com back down. Wait for 2 years?
when you go to make decks how do you start? because your decks are consistantly good and I never know how to start. btw this was another great video!
Here is my process. For you and any one else that is interested.
Step 1.
I find, see, play against, stumble upon or someone suggests: an interesting card, combo, interaction or archetype.
- or -
I look for top 8 decks and experiment how how that deck can be made into a budget version.
Step 4. I ask myself the following questions
1. How does this deck beat the top 8 decks? (Tron, Dredge, Aggro, Control, Combo, exc...)
Thanks for the Question,
Cheers, from Adrian!
Wow,thank you for the in-depth reply adrian.this will go a long way for me
Any time. Just trying to help. Happy deck building and if you have any questions feel free to reach out to my here or on the Facebook page.
Priolis vault?
Isn't Kozilek's return good in this deck? Was just wondering.
yes and no. Because this is a budget deck it doesn't play any "play and Win" Eldrazi so it's not just that worth it.
Giant Monster Games thank you for your opinion sir.
why the single mountain? Am i missing something?
Sideboard has some red cards.
never knew tron was that cheap if you drop ugin and karn, interesting
I know it's surprising.
Yeah if you don't play the cards that make the deck good its super cheap.
Deflecting plam that emrakul for the game
Does Blood Moon shut this deck down entirely?
no more then any other Tron deck. The big thing with any tron deck is they are very fast at getting lands into play. so by turn 5 or 6 you can be playing win cons with out without tron.
Oh, wow! Thanks for the info. I just got back into Magic (Playing mostly online), so it's good to know what to look out for! :)
No prob, glad I could help. I also have gameplay of this deck if you want to see how it's played.
I saw! I've been going through all of your videos. Thanks for making my work day quite alright. :) haha
no endless one's?
Naw, the abilities of the other creatures just make them better options.
ok, with that much mana at your disposal i thought why not. plus im still new to tron.
It's all good. Endless one is best being cast for 3-5 mana. especially in a multi colour deck. But once you get into the 7+ range there are just way better spells / creatures for the same casting cost.
Is this a decent tournament deck, also can it be upgraded easily? I'm New to magic and would like a halfway decent modern deck
Yes, 100% I see Tron being played everywhere. This is just and entry level version of the deck.
Untapped urza Tron turn 3 you say? I'd be a shame is I were to play
Boros prison
So... what do you do if THEY use Crumble to dust...?
Ask them why THEY are playing crumble to dust? it's a super budget card. But in actuality can normally rush out enough lands to survive / cast our giant robots. I'd say I've would 1/4 of my games without Tron.
Is there any way to recover from it though?
Gameplay of the deck?
It's inbound. I recorded all my videos without audio... so I have to rerecord them today. There will be one tonight and 2 more tomorrow.
"prilous" lol. Good vid nonetheless
why is there no karn in here?
Because you did not read the title. BUDGET
What's the normal build??
follow until the end you will see upgrades.
you need to start reading these cards. Annihilator is NOT what Bane has, because Bane exiles those cards: Annihilator sacrifices them. also, attacking with Ulamog does NOT put the top twenty card into the graveyard. it exiles them. exile and graveyard are very different
you are correct that is my bad. I've been working on being better with that.
He actually says in the video it is like annihilator. He never says it is
@@ryanbouchard2907 He didn't say it is "like Annihilator".
Use prophetic prism to have permanent mana fixing.
you can build this deck for a little under $60 if you leave out the sideboard btw.
Jacob Sutherland That is a very bad idea...
Wayne Landers Ok, well just add the sideboard and it's $66. I don't know how he came up with $90. When i put the deck in tcg it was under $60.

The chronicles version of the the Urza lands are much cheaper
Yep if you look around you can find cheaper versions of everything. The prices I list are taken form the average on Tappedout.net.
"Ancestrial Stirring" XD
I guess there is at least one miss pronunciation in each video. You found it!
Deck looks pretty solid, though
Giant Monster Games there were two -- Priolous Vault was the other.
Ancestrial stirrings?. I think it's ancient stirrings xD
yah :P I also mispronounce perilous. So much so that it's kinda an inside joke now.
Ancestrial Stirrings??? It's Ancient Stirrings dude...
dryad arbor is green
and..... not needed in this deck.
Is this 90$ online or real life?
Real paper cards. These k is about $30 on MTGO
1 red land lol
nice deck I guess
Ancestral stirrings... Lol I think you mean ancient stirrings also perilous vault not pryless haha 😝😝
Yah this was a particularly bad pronunciation episode.
You make a comment about Tron powering out giant robots, but it's usually, at least in its non-budget Modern from, powering out some Eldrazi, which I would more describe as...a giant monster??? Ehh? EHHHH???
GIANT MONSTERS! You are totally correct. I should have played that up more! Missed opportunity.
i feel so retarded with my crucible of worlds in my hand........
why?
So, who thinks he could even make Exalted Aggro interesting?
I'll take that challenge!
Interesting I was thinking W/U or W/R
Or you could save it for a Quad Deck Tech and really discuss Exalted. But Exalted colors are in White, Green, Blue or Black...
OH that is possible. I'll give that ideas some thought.
> "Budget Deck"
> $90
Better then the $200 that other channels call budget
For Tron that's as cheap as it gets. There are borderline requirements to get it to run in an efficient manner so it's not just a clunky slog to play.
If I can feed myself for more than a month on the deck's price, it's not a budget deck.
YOU PLELLED COUGH WRONG I HA- you can feed youreself for idk how many years if you sold you're house so whats the deal? ;)
