SO helpful. Thanks for sharing your passion and helping navigate!
Thanks for the informative video Josh!
My pleasure!
Just discovered your videos and loving them! I used to buy and sell vintage (some Levi's) in the US 25 years ago. Now Im buying and selling mostly Levi's on Vinted here in the EU. Will be checking in on any new vids. Thank you!
Glad you like them!
@@LootFam I have a type jacket I just cant fathom the age of. Can you help?... i have close up pics of the care tags but its mostly rubbed off.
Dope to see a video on vintage Levi denim jackets 👌🏽 thanks!!
More to come!
Just revisiting this video as I finally found my first vintage Jacket. Looks to be the 70's type 3 version. Nice fade size 42 with cool distressing on the collar. Paid $8 so that's cool too. Thanks for the knowledge!
Thats what I’m talking about!
@Draknight Not that i’m aware of. There is a black hole of denim heads and their particulars where that might be a thing, but generally no. There are different kinds of denim weaves that may be rarer than others. The pattern of the denim weave can be quite distinct from other weaves depending on the brand and era.
Again thaNk you so much your family is totally awesome, thank you for helping us and the animals today I’m watching again thanks
Our pleasure!
Nice jacket, great search topic!
Thanks!
i have four levis jacket and love them all
Thanks for the info sir about levi's blouse or trucker 🧥 jacket
You’re welcome!
Thanks man!
My pleasure!
Thank you from algeria
You’re very welcome! Thanks for watching!
Great video! I've been looking for resources to aid in narrowing down specifics while shopping online for Type III jackets from the 1980's-1990's. Can you recommend any videos or blogs that concentrate on reading date codes on the care tags, dates that the care tags changed (from red to black, to the current style, etc)? I saw your video about Levi's jeans care tags and that was helpful too! I'm shopping for a specific gift and am finding a lot of repeated, though good, information in my search and would appreciate any guidance! Thanks!
As far as videos are concerned i’m only aware of my video that goes through those topics. Not sure if you saw the “How to read levis care tags” video or the “how to tell if your levis are not vintage” but the how to read video goes much further in depth. I have about 40 videos in the “vintage levies guide” playlist. As far as sites, heddels.com is a great resource. The reddit forum “vintagelevis” is helpful too. Thanks for watching!
Amazing video! Thanks for all these great info condensed so nicely. I have a vintage jacket with hand warmers, the style code is 75525, and I can’t find anything about it anywhere! It also doesn’t seem to have a date printed on it. Do you know anything more about 75525s, i.e when they were made?
If you'd like you can send me some photos to lootfam1@gmail.com and I'll take a look at it. Thanks for watching!
We had the sherpa Levis jacket in the 70's, so sherpa's are in the second batch too. 😉
And some really cool ones too!
i'd like to know more about levis with capital E jeans & jackets cuz i collected a few of them during my years. thank you!
Good Idea! I'm kind of hoping to get one in hand before I do that video. Sold all the ones I have had recently so as soon as I get a new one I'll release a video on it! Thanks for the input!
@@LootFam not at all & thank you! NYC
This Levi's jacket is dark blue with a small red and white neck tag that reads Levi's SIZE 42. No pockets, orange stitching, orange Levi's tag, buttons read LEVISTRAUSS&CO SFCAL
Appreciate your videos man! I have a jacket that I'm could use your help with. Lets see, first of all it's purple with bleach tie dye and the label says Levi's San Francisco. Levi's is in cursive and the label is white. The front vertical V seams are pretty much parallel rather than a V and the Levi's red tab is actually white with silver thread spelling out Levi's. It also has the hand warmer pockets and donut buttons with the leaf print. The back of the button is stamped 4403 so not sure why it says san francisco in the kabel since that code I belive is for made in Sir Lanka. It says its an XL. I'd love to hear your thoughts on this denim jacket. TYSM!
Meant by hang tag the red batwing, like on vintage jeans
I'm sorry, I'm not sure I understand the question. Can you rephrase it for me? Thanks for watching!
Trying to date a couple of Levis Type III jackets that I own. I'm getting conflicting info. You say in your video that the hand warmer pockets were added in 1980 for winter Olympics, but I'm seeing websites that state the hand warmer pockets were added for the 1984 Olympics. I wonder which is correct. Great video btw. Super informative!
Hey JD, thanks for pointing this out. I had forgotten to correct that date. It does appear the general consensus is that hand warmers were added for the 1984. I’m still trying to get Levi’s to officially confirm this though. Thanks!
@@LootFam Thank you for the clarification. Subscribed to your channel!

Great video, thank you. Perhaps you can give me some info on my 71507 2018. I don't see many references on it. It has alpha sizing, all of the right "Made in USA" tags, and 523 on the back of the buttons. Thanks again!

@@LootFam thanks!
Do you have a video that explains more on the ones that are flannel and blanket lined...❓❓❓
I don't currently. Blanket lined go back decades into the 30s I believe. But flannel started in the 80s from my understanding.
Hey, that was so helpful, I have a type 3 jacket but the levis logo is on the pocket flap and it says levis Strauss Signature, no red label on the side. Also there's no care tag anywhere on the jacket and it doesn't seem to be ripped or something, any idea? Thanks!
Sounds like it's from the Levi's Signature series that was sold in Kmart and Walmarts from the late 90s till today. What you are describing sounds like a late 90s or early 2000s version. Thanks!
I recently thrifted a newer women's trucker jacket with a blank tab and wondering if it's fake. The buttons do have have the numbers stamps matching the tags but the reason I'm questioning its authenticity is because the blank tab is a darker shade of red and Levi's patch stitching is not quite centered. Also the made in Sri lanka tag is above the Levi's patch. Is this normal?
I have one with orange label but label don say san francisco ,is original ??
I have a type 3 trucker jacket that I believe was made in Canada. I think it may be a 70's one, but not too sure. The only tag is the just the logo with the numbers 2032 75505(6)? 0217 with spr-005 on the upper left of the logo. I think I remember reading somewhere that it was union made (not sure what that means) it's kinda boxy looking with no hand pockets. Also for some reason it looks like the Levi red tab is upside down because the registered trade mark you can barely notice it, but if you flip it to the other side it's much more pronounced. Thoughts?
Great video, so knowledgeable! I have picked up jacket, looks like type 3 "trucker" my only concern is the label has waist and legs measurements on it, any ideas? its made in USA with small e on the Levis. instead of the label being in red its printed in black?!? Thanks!
The buttons also say SF CAL
Got your email. Taking a look at it now! Thanks for watching!
BLOUSON!!
Hi, I'm so curious because I can't find any exact information about my trucker jacket given by a friend on the web. Written on the patch lot number 505-0217. While it's inside care instructions label covered by some kind of transparent plastic. It's Made in USA. The button stamps number is 133. I'm afraid it's just a counterfeit. But the quality is very good, the stitching is great and neat. I just want to make sure. Any helpful information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Please email me pictures of the jacket to lootfam1@gmail.com. I'd love to take a look!
do you know if those old levis have the date on the caretags like the jeans?
Most of them should, but some do not. The tags are sometimes oriented different but generally are the same.
What is the inside patch on the denim jacket doesn’t have numbers ? Just to logo? I came across a denim jacket , but I’m unsure if it real or fake !
That's not uncommon. If you'd like you can send me pictures at lootfam1@gmail.com and I can take a look at it for you! Thanks for watching!
hey i found a type 3 levis jacket at goodwill and there’s heavy distressing and no tags anywhere.. it has the big E no pockets but has snap buttons with no numbers on back of buttons.. would this be a remake or replacement buttons, or did levi use snap buttons for a moment in the big E era?
Could you send me some photos to lootfam1@gmail.com? I’ll take a look
Hello is there a difference in a type III trucker jacket if it has a smaller leather tag letters are pressed no red ink.
It's still a type 3 but may be a slightly different model. You can send pictures to lootfam1@gmail.com if you need more help! hanks!
What does LL-1123 stand for on a label?
I’ve got a grey jacket on eBay it’s from their new fresh collection that’s now finished. But it’s a sample version, has the patch but inside it says “not for resale” and has no care instructions.
Samples are so cool! Often the samples never gets made in the exact way again with productions models often slightly different so you’ve got a rare piece!
I bought a Levi’s jacket with a very nice tag nearly done that never seems to age.. ? With J02 buttons. I wonder is it a real vintage Levi’s or it’s just a new Levi’s jacket. Jacket tag is brown and red ink with black number 71506

Thank you
hello bro. i'm from vietnam and i also love vintage clothes. But in Vietnam, it is rare to see beautiful clothes with very high prices

i have a stars and stripes pants with a button code of 551, big E talon zipper no care tag or any tag whatsoever.
i also have a corduroy type 3 jacket with no care tags, has this white neck tag with rec lining and numeric sizing (42). has a button code of 536m kinda confused
Probably from 70-73 era. Could be earlier but not that much earlier. Some of the casual pants had 3 digits.
Could you send a couple photos to lootfam1@gmail.com?
Hi I've got a Levis type 3 denim jacket, which I've had for about 30 years. It's got a red tab on both pocket flaps, which I suppose was an error when it was made. Is this unusual or rare, or both? Thank you.
Awesome! It does happen occasionally. I find that it’s more common on jeans, but not unheard of for jackets. I doesn’t seem to effect its value too much, maybe 15 percent higher than the average from the era. Awesome!!
Hi I found a vintage type 3 jacket, but I can’t make out the size because the tag is worn. Do you have any recommendations on sizing it? (Planning on selling because it’s too big on me :/)
Make sure you get the chest measurements and the back of the neck to the bottom of the garment. Generally, these will be enough for most people. Older jackets were sized based on the chest measurements anyway so this method should be sufficient. Thanks for watching!
ive just started to get into this vintage levis thing by buying a 70505 jacket , no hand warmers , small e , care tag , made in the USA , numbers on the buttons , ect. ect. its old . The underarms appear to have a filler strip sew into the seams , extending down about five inches . looking at it from the inside , its very messing looking , but the stitching is consistent with the same type , and color , of stitching over the rest of the jacket . ive never seen one of these jackets before , so i thought thats how they are . I just bought a 71205 jacket tonite , and its underarms are normal . these are both too small for me , im trying to get an idea of what to look for .
Interesting. Could you share a few photos with me at lootfam1@gmail.com? I'd love to take a look. Sounds like an interesting jacket. Thanks for watching and hope I can help!
Great video! Any idea on the timeframe for a 70411 0816 flannel lined denim jacket (made in USA)?
What is the sizing? Is it numerical(38,40,42) or alphabetical( M, L, XL)?
@@LootFam the sizing is numerical
@@aowens451 I'd say late 80s-early 90s.

Hey man! Awesome video
I bought a levis vtg type 3 jacket on ebay that looks and feels really good. However, none of the buttons have a number on the back. Is it possible that it is a fake?
Always possible, but it’s not too uncommon to find jackets missing stamps. Sometimes this was from factory or they rubbed off. I think you’re good to go.
@@LootFam is it okay if I email you some pictures?
Hey man would you know about a type 3 orange tab, no hand pockets, but made in Canada? 75505. Also has a blank orange tab, not really sure what year it is. Anything helps, thanks man
Some of the orange tab versions had not hand pockets later into the 80s. I'd guess mid to late 80s based on Canadian production.
Hoping you are able to see this. I have bought a levi denim jacket that has an orange tab on it. The leather patch is already ripped, showing an indication of its age. However, Im googling orange tabs denim jacket and cant seem to find any information about it. Do you have any idea how old this is? Also what would you buy if you’d choose only one? A big E denim jacket or an orange tab one? Hope you reply. Keep up the good work!
Orange tabs were phased out in 1999. Though I'd bet your jacket is from the 80s, but I'd need to check other details to be sure. I'd pick a Big E Denim jacket over the orange tab any day of the week. Orange tab jackets are nice but no where near the desirability as a big e.
@@LootFamI appreciate your reply! Thank you! I shouldve said the patch is paper, not leather. Keep up the good work!
In the 1980's the sizing got really crazy, all over the place. The beginnings of ramped up overseas manufacturing and total loss of quality control. Levi's jackets went from a refined, slim fitting jacket to a huge oversized jacket. This in part, led to Levi's near demise in the subsequent years. It's really sad what happened to Levi's in San Francisco, they pretty much have zero presence now.

Please, can you tell me what is the difference between the 72334 -0134 and the 72334 - 0178 Type3? And why can't I find any new -0178. Thank you. btw I bought two XXL -0134 one from ZAPPOS and the other from Langston's Western wear. One was perfect and the other was too small. Can you make a video about this issue? Thank you.
The last 4 numbers in that code are the wash/color code. They may also include differences in the fabric content. They may have discontinued the -0178 and not longer produce them. If i can, ill look into this further. Thanks for watching!
@@LootFam no,.... thank you, for responding.

What can you tell me (if you don't mind please) about a Levi 70507 with no additional numbers and the tag says May 20, 1873? Is this a fake? I've searched and can't find this exact tag, and the tag is sorta stiff & new-like even though the jacket shows plenty of years of wearing & distress. TIA, subbed

1960's don't have hand warmers and no label care instruction on the jacket. I have a vintage jacket.
Thanks for the info! Do they have an inside breast pocket?
When did 75334 came about and what’s the difference to the others?
Hard to say exactly, but most type 3 variations came in the 80s and 90s. I don’t recall that particular model but it’s likely from those periods.
i just bought a vintage corduroy white tab type 3 jacket, and it has no handwarmers. On the inside tag it says 05 96 so i admit that it´s from 1996, but wouldn´t it normally have handwarmers if that´s the case?
Yes, typically a type 3 from this era would have hand warmers. But this is primarily about denim trucker jacket. All bets can be off with some of the other random designs that Levi’s released in this era. Great find though! Those are harder to come by.
@@LootFam oh okay thank you :)
Its the 1984 Winter Olympics that levis added the hand warmers, NOT 1980 Winter Olympics. Source: HEDDELS
Yeah, read the correction from a few years ago in the description. Also, this is actually disputed. There seems to be many examples of hand warmers prior to 1984, but certainly by 1984 it was standard.
Thanks for responding, maybe only levi’s historians can confirmed the real year hand warmers were added. Anyways, you’re maybe right.
Any info on the 70517?

If it was really the exact one from my banner they would be selling it for over a 1000 dollars less than it's value soo.... go buy it! haha. There are plenty of repros of the type 2 out there. Just be careful.
hey! can you tell me when levis started producing jackets in Japan? there’s a lot of big E japanese levis around but i heard they are repros.
I believe the official Japanese levis repros started in the early 90s. If there are older ones I’m not sure they are licensed. Japan has been make high quality jeans inspired by levis for many year prior to that, but I’m fairly certain the officially licensed stuff was early 90s.
@@LootFam yeah i took a look at Levi’s timeline document and it says they started producing in Japan in 1971, same year as they stopped making Big E’s. So yeah, any big E you see that’s made in Japan is 100% a repro.
Oh, good look. I've personally only every come across the early 90s stuff in Big E form on trucker jackets, but that's good to know. Thanks!
What year is the type 3 jacket you use for most of this video ?
I have since sold it buuuut i believe it was 1976ish
For some reason that part of the question did not show up last time 😅
Hi, I bought levi's trucker type III from second hand shop. It has size XL and, is it a lot number, 70503 04. It has only one care tag, quite long anyway. Sleeves are cut much more space when compearing the one newer that I have, wbere you cant put even a hoodie under cause sleeves come too tight. Other side of the care tag are numbers 09 98. I was thinking that is this probably a make month and year? So could this be from 90's? Its made in Tunisia.
Its great to have guys like you around to ask for 😁 thanks and all the best!
From your description it sounds like a late 90s, maybe early 2000s jacket. If you’d like to send pics to lootfam1@gmail.com i cam confirm for you. Thanks!

How about the PC9 72334? I am curious as to why one I have is followed by 0136 & now the ones that look similar seem to be 0130. Can you fill me in on the difference between these two? Ty :)
The 4 digit numbers are the material code. Unfortunately, there isn't a robust list of all of the different material codes. Often from year to year generally the same material might have gotten a slightly different material number depend on a few changes at the factory. Some changes most would never notice.

Can you tell me when the jacket became stretchy. Mine is 98%cotton, 2%stretchy. I got mine new from Macy's after Christmas 2020. Fits like a glove.
Levis has been using elastics for awhile, though I’m not entirely sure when the first trucker jacket got it. The earliest I’ve seen them with is early 2000s, primarily in women’s jackets.
@@LootFam thank you for your response. What about the inside pockets and collar loop for hanging. Do those have any significant history in thier adoption? The jacket had in the mid 80's had the big inside pockets but not the collar loop.
The inside pockets were made by the pocked bags of the hand warming pockets introduced in 1980. They have been made more effective progressively since then. I’m actually not sure about collar loop. I’m wanting to sayings it’s more recent but I’ll have to do a bit more research. Great question!
Thanks@@LootFam Alot of the Levi's type lll videos like yours, talk about numbers like 50××××. Mine just has XXL no numbers.

Ohhhh …. the acid wash obsession!
Questions about a crossover period around 71'? I've seen pictures of big "E's" with care tags around the late 60's to early 70's. Well what about the opposite? A small "e" without care tags? Two pockets (no hand warmers) with 2032 75505-2017 size 46. Absolutely no evidence of a missing tag. At least none that I can see. Also this is sort of off the topic of trucker jackets, but I own a Grey t shirt with LEVI'S 501 registered trademark as well, and under that it says "since 1853"? Wasn't Levi's established in 1873?
I tried to send you some pictures of my trucker jacket in the orange tab section, I think?
Wondering if you got it? The small "e" red tab I have actually looks alot like the one your wearing.
Just wanna ask if my Levis Trucker Jacket is legit and vintage. Serial number written on neck tag is 70417 0214 but the back button number that was engrave is 527. Is it necessary that the number engrave on the back button should be 0214?
So is the jacket legit and vintage or not?
Would it be possible for you to send me some photos to lootfam1@gmail.com? I’d love to take a look and try to confirm it for you. Nothing you have shared so far suggest to me that it isn’t legit or not vintage, but some photos would help me pinpoint.

If the type 3 doesn’t have the lower pockets is considered big E era?
No, it needs the captial E in the red tab to be consider Big E era. There are about 10 years of type 3 jackets that were not big e and don't have pockets. The pocketless, little e, type 3 jackets are still really cool. Slimmer and shorter than later versions. Thanks for watching!
@@LootFam okay what year did they start doing blank red tabs? Is it possible to have a Big E type 3 bit with just a blank red tab?
The blank red tab began in the 30s. It is possible to have a Big E jacket with a blank red tab. Those are sometimes frustrating to nail down a date on, but yes it's possible.
7500 04 on my label, no hand warmer pockets, think I bought it late 80s, doesn’t fit with your thought of hand pockets, also cuffs were longer and I remember an earlier jacket I had with smaller cuffs, maybe variances in different countries, I’m in Scotland
There were some jackets that did not include hand warming pockets such a some youth and women's jackets and a perhaps most notably some of the more unusual design denim jackets from the late 80s and early 90s. During this time levi's produced a rash of denim jackets that we wouldn't call a traditional type 3. They seemingly played by their own rules. Largely, after the early 90s Levi's discontinued some of these more obscure designs and stuck to the classic type 3 design. I'd love to see your jacket if you were willing to share some photos. lootfam1@gmail.com if you like. Thanks for watching!
How do u know all this info?! :) thank you for sharing
Haha thank you!
Is the 529 more valuable than other type III's?
It's possible. I'm not familiar with the 529 type 3. Is 529 the lot number or the factory code on the back of the button? There is a pretty wide variety of values for type 3s that aren't from the Big E era. Because there are so many of them the value is more often determined by the condition, wash, and size. The most valuable type 3 is typically the 557 and early 20505s. Thanks for watching.
@@LootFam yes the 529 is on the buttons.
@@wagstaffe7 ah yes. Ok, this is the factory code indicating that it was made in the USA. USA made jackets are more desired that non, but this era jacket doesn’t command crazy values. Likely 50-75/s depending on factors like condition, wash, and sizing. Thanks for watching!
I believe that a jacket' s lenght should be 3 inches bellow the belly button.
Do you guys have an Instagram page?
We do! It’s not exactly affiliated with this channel but it’s where we feature our favorite finds. @the_vint_age
May i ask how to identify the year of the jacket by buttom stamp number
The button stamp isn’t a very helpful tool in dating largely because the stamp formats cover such a large stretch of time. Generally three digit codes range from 70s to present, two digits cover 50-70s, and prior to that single or no stamp is earliest. Precise dates for the transition between these formats is hard to come by.
How can I send you some pictures of the jacket that I'm telling you
@@nawms3075 send them to lootfam1@gmail.com. Thanks!
Uhm i can't find it on gmail I'll send you mine so i can ask more information about the jacket i acquired
@@LootFam sir
70507 first released in the late 80s.
Not late 90s.
I own a 70507 that was purchased in 1988 at now defunct Millers Outpost.
I wore it probably four or five times and has been sitting in my closet for over three decades.
🤷🏻♂️
What’s an original official Levi’s 70507-4858 purchased in 1988 in excellent used condition worth in April 2022?
$300?
🤗
$500?
$1,000?
😁
Good point! Thanks! Unfortunately, Levi's jackets don't really start hitting triple digits until you get to the early 70s models. Thanks for watching!
No triple digits!?
So wait.. you’re genuinely honestly, with a straight face, telling me that my official Levi’s Trucker Jacket from 1988 is worth max $99? That’s the end of the TWO DIGITS!
😂😂
Man you got jokes dude.
Hell, I like you!
You can come over to my house and fuugg my sister!
🤣🤣
I see these Type III 70507’s from the 80’s on eBay and Poshmark for over $100 in distressed condition.
Mines in excellent condition.

👍🏼😎👍🏼🇺🇸
Now I gotta sign up for a Poshmark or eBay account.

Добрый день. Какая плотность (унций) денима у levis type III 70-80-х годов выпуска..?
Between 9-11oz. Thanks!
@@LootFam можно прислать вам фото куртки, чтобы Вы посмотрели и как эксперт, оценили более конкретно насколько она интересна, и какую представляет из себя ценность, как винтажный продукт..? :))

“Never even sniffed type 1, unfortunately” lmfao that shit is hilarious. Gets me everytime!
Haha!
So, 70505 don’t have big E and 70557 have big E that’s the only difference?
There are other small differences like thread color, fit differences, etc etc. But fundamentally they are both Type 3 designs and nearly the same.
@@LootFam right I have seen 70505 with big E, I’m trying to buy my first vintage type 3 jacket, and obviously I would prefer the 1st edition 🔥🔥🔥 70557 are 70557 with lining only? , I would appreciate if someone that knows helped me, could you assist me? 😬😂
@@xai9892 Sure! There are lined and unlined versions of the 557. The 557 is generally more boxy fitting than the 505. The 557 will also be priced much high than the 505. If you have questions or want a jacket looked over you can email me at lootfam1@gmail.com.
@@LootFam perfect thanks I will definitely be reaching out, btw I’m usually between a medium and a large what size should I go with?
Mine is the comment before last. Do you know what it is?????
My best guess is that it sounds like a 79-84 era type 3. The label you describe was used around then.
Thanks 🙂
@LootFam Nope this one is Special for sure........ Maybe a Janitorial jacket. I'm not sure!!!! I definitely wanted to Run it by you first!!!!!! I guess I need your email so I can send you pictures.

Hey, I have a Levi's type 3 jacket. It has a lowercase "e," no handwarmers pockets, and on the tag it has the numbers 3107 75505 0217, size 44 Any idea what year it might be?
Hmm... I'd guess 74-84 at the least. But if you send me some photos of the jacket to lootfam1@gmail.com I can help further! Thanks
