  • Whether from love or loss, you'll likely have to deal with someone else's stuff at some point in your life. This could be the result of something exciting -like moving in with a romantic partner or out of a loss like losing a loved one (and realizing you inherited more than just the heirlooms). Today, we're talking about merging, blending, and decluttering while working through someone else's stuff.

I missed your earlier message, but sincere condolences to you and your family.
When my parents passed my brothers, sisters-in-law and I didn’t have a problem like that. We are all rather minimalistic so we looked through the belongings and all just took what was important to us (which was not much) and than we called someone to pick up everything else and he could sell everything he wanted. I’m alone and my brothers are a lot older than I am so when I die there is probably no one to take any of the stuff. The renting company probably has to take care of it 😅. And if I go before my brother(s) they know they can throw everything away. I don’t own valuable things.

My deepest condolences on your loss. I lost my mom in December. I had visited her in November, and she had gifted me many little things to hand out to her granddaughters. She'd also donated many clothes that she was no longer using, and I cleared out all her expired items in the bathroom. It made cleaning and clearing much easier when I visited to attend her memorial, but there was lots still to take care of and gift and dispose.

Great video! I moved in with my partner two years ago and it definitely was a process. I was lucky that he didn't own much kitchen stuff (he always lived in shared spaces before and there was no need to get stuff) so we now use all the pieces I inherited from my great grandmother, which makes me really happy. He happened to have a whole set of cutlery which I didn't own, I provided everything else and we bought a new pan :)
There was also some 'leveling up' for me, I had rather small storage containers that made sense for storing food for one person, but are now obsolete. We got rid of them and invested in big containers to hold huge amounts of food. We are going through so much now as a couple and we rarely have to get rid of anything that gets forgotten in the back of the fridge or the pantry.
I am so sorry for your loss. I hope your cousin is healing. I'd love to hear your thoughts on the mourning and grieving process in a future video.
