I don't know why people get annoyed over your videos! All you are doing is trying to help them. I'm on my minimalism journey and love cramming in all the info I can find. Never been happier😁 They might actually be more annoyed with themselves, I think. Love your content!❤️❤️❤️

I am not a minimalist but have been working towards it the past few years. I’ve been purging/decluttering a lot of my own things as well as “treasures” left behind by my parents who have both been gone over 16+ years. The last few weekends I’ve let a lot of things go through a yard sale and donations and I am truly finding joy in having less. My home feels so much cleaner and more spacious and my mind and thoughts feel less cluttered as well. I would much rather spend a weekend spending quality time with my husband than cleaning and organizing “stuff” that never brought me the joy I thought it once did. Having much less is definitely bringing me more joy.

I want to extend a very late happy mother's day! I hope you and your family had a special day.
I look forward to each and every one of your video every Tuesday. I especially resonated with this video. I did huge declutter between February 2023 and finished my major declutter journey this year between February and March of 2024. When I have told people I am a minimalist I have gotten looks like, you have stuff in your house, lego sculptures, wood toys that my dad made, posters all over my walls, trinkets and toys displayed on shelves.
The minimalistic aesthetic is not the same as a minimalistic lifestyle. Discovering the minimalistic lifestyle has helped me be able to better care for my aging therapy cat and I am grateful for content like this so that I can continue to be inspired to keep my mindset away from the pressures of marketing to have more.
Finding minimalism also helped me to find my creativity. It helped me become a better writer more able to focus and find meaning in what I write. I submitted my work to a publisher after 5 years of writing. Hopefully soon I can share my writing with the world soon.
Thank you for all your hard work that brings us wonderful content. I am sure it has helped many people just like me to find peace and relaxation in their home after a long journey of decluttering even if they choose not to be minimalist like us.

I think minimalism is different for everyone. I have a lot more stuff than you but I still call myself a minimalist because I did get rid of so many things already. The things that I still have are bringing me joy and if not I will get rid of them as well. I changed my attitude towards stuff and now prefer to buy things that are natural and will disappear automatically, like flowers or real pumpkins instead of artificial ones that I have to store and have to take care of (it doesn’t always work out that way, my pumpkins from last September are still in my living room because they don’t want to rot 😂). I’m not rich and live on a disability social security but I just love not being in the rat race of always having to buy things and I love the fact that I don’t have to worry about money anymore. I’m just happy with so much less 🤍

I love your mindset and agree with you wholeheartedly. I also live on disability and minimalism has made my ability to live so much more comfortable. I don't need to worry about 'keeping up with the Jones' because I love my style and the things i display as well as the things use whether others love it or not.

I consider myself a minimalist. I have decluttered a whole lot of my things. My husband is NOT a minimalist, although we are preparing for our first move in 20+ years, so he has been getting rid of quite a bit lately also. My problem was that the better it feels to get rid of things, the more I want to get rid of. I also think I’ve been trying to compensate for the things my husband won’t get rid of by getting rid of more of my things, or our shared things such as in the kitchen. But your video helped me realize I had a bit of perfectionism going on too! You helped me remember that the point is to lower my stress and to have more peace and rest, and to be able to have more time for relationships. So, thank you for this video! You helped me remember the whole goal!

I think some of the people making assumptions about minimalists/minimalism haven't bothered to research what it's about or even watched a variety of this type of content present on this or any other platform. You are one of ten that I subscribe to and you each bring entirely different perspectives to what minimalism can be. I've learned a long time ago that people feel threatened when you go against the grain. Choosing what is not the norm feels like a threat to others much of the time so of course they will be critical of your decision to do what is best for you.

What you said is key, "BALANCE" I went pretty far with minimalism in some areas and i found that for a time i was content and then i became depressed because i denied myself of some of the comforts in life things like messy hobbies, soft spongy blankets, decor then i went and filled in the gaps by introducing plants and colour and art and it really brought me alive again. The process is to find what is our own personal clutter threshold that we experience through editing. Some people can handle more things than another or can handle more visual stimulation. I still need a clutter free space to function well and sometimes that means just putting away even my most used items to maintain clarity for the project at hand. A great book to read is "Its Just My Nature" by Carol Tuttle to learn that everyone has a unique energy type most of us Type 4 people are just wired to be more streamlined. Also clutterbug style by Cas is a big insight to various organising styles. We are all different.
Sometimes essentialism can cause us to forget that life is meant to be enjoyed not to just survive... so like Kon Mari Says "if it sparks joy keep it!"

We've never had a "junk drawer" as don't have space to do so! It's also inefficient.
Never heard of a baby register either! Thankful that I lived outside Australia when we had our baby as we had so much less stuff. Shocked at all the superfluous junk hoisted on pregnant women who should really be choosing specifically what they need.
Am not a minimalist but love the way you present your ideas & watch regularly as a soothing pause before starting a hectic day. Thanks heaps!

Creators should acknowledge the privilege that exist in the minimalism lifestyle. It is attainable for everyone but that isn’t why minimalism has been trending the last few years. People love hearing about upper middle class people living simple lives because they choose too not because they had to out of any necessity. The appeal and anesthetic is the choice in abandoning a conventional lifestyle for a socioeconomic class of people. I’m neither minimalist nor not minimalist but I find it interesting the type of people who become minimalist on social media.

I have NOTHING negative to say about this channel... This video is spot on debunking the various naysayers of 'minimalism'. For sure it's an elastic word & a personal philosophy, evolving with your lifestyle. Everyone is different.
I did follow a channel once who lived the single life & an ascetic space like The Accountant movie (the cutlery scene...)!
BUT they admitted that they paid for a storage unit stuffed with the 'normal' stuff she couldn't bring herself to dispose of....
Marie Kondo and her ilk are riding the wave of excess consumption - a million closets that need decluttering... & people literally earn a living performing that as a service!
That's not minimalist but is relatable for most people - they don't want to dispose of stuff, just 'organise' it... if you have 10k sq ft, ok I guess.
But like obesity, ironically it's poorer folk who suffer from clutter the most, disposal costs money & takes effort.
Time surviving leaves no time or energy. Small spaces, multiple occupancy dwellings, rentals, so no control...
Retail therapy is a twisted capitalist treadmill... a lifestyle of not having the advertised/ branded things, a perpetual competition with the fam, street, socials. People crave more, they don't feel they ever have 'enough'.
Kids! Growing up, every year a new set of clothes, toys, gadgets, different needs, new activities.
These themes are why minimalism is a niche at present, and misunderstood or maybe resented by folks in the other demographics...

If yoy have so much you struggle to put things away, hou have to much. Its not about being priveledged, its about the clutter and perspective. I have a super tiny home and if im going to be happy, i can’t have much stuff! I keep what makes me happy like my art, gaming setup and bookshelf, but i got rid off all the books i didnt love or never got around to read, i got rid of the art supplies i hadnt used in three years, i got rid of my old computer that no longer worked.
And this is what these people throwing «priveledge» around misses. They miss out on the point of minimalist lifestyle. And i don’t think they are ready to fully explore it and therefore their brain start throwing words around instead. Its because they want to but dont really has the insight RIGHT NOW.
If you are poor it doesent mean you have to hoard. If someone gift you a new better jacket you dont need to keep the old rag u used to have. And if you want something of quality you can get it. There is lots of ways but yoy dont have to be rich. For example you COULD work with the addiction and stop drinking, you COULD stop smoking, you COULD stop doing whatever thing making you a slave to surroundings. Thats called a choise. And many ppl get mad when one say that because it’s true. Self accountability and awareness hits hard on people.

I too love your Tuesday content. IMO, the word "Minimalism" conjures up (for some) giving up your possessions, being a dull person with rules about how many forks you can own, etc:-). People would benefit from understanding how decluttering can transform one's life (taught in your class) where you naturally arrive at your perfect threshold of possessions over time.
Minimalism can be fun, nurturing, and beautiful. As you said, you can still have red walls!!
I call myself a "Curator/Collector" because I like my home to reflect beautiful possessions accumulated from travel, thrifting, and artists over time. It's also fun to incorporate some inherited possessions (see below). All this curation and thinking about our space intelligently will speak to our inner longings, heritage, and personality.
Being aware and intentional brings epiphanies. "Next steps" occur to me.
Follow your whispers and impulses. For instance, I noticed a free chair yoga class at the local library. After class, I stayed a while to read magazines and checked out a few design books. Now Wednesday is "inspiration day". I plan to read more and bring in some books to donate to the library bookstore... (more decluttering)
My current motto: "Patience, attention, next step, curate, repurpose, relocate"
Mia, I finally decided what to do with Mom's pink velvet Butterfly reading chair in the garage (repurpose, relocate)...finally, after a year (patience)!! It now lives with some of Mom's paintings (colorful with pink) in a corner of my office. I put one of her pink shawls over the worn spot. It is repurposed for a reading corner with a stack of books. The value of our own brand of minimalism is that it clears space for creativity to blossom.
Besides, who else has a pink velvet chair in their office?

Brilliant Mia! The thing with minimalism is, just as you say, different for everyone. I have you and a couple of other minimalistish people I follow and you are all very different! There is no one way of doing it! I have a dog ergo I have everything from dog food to dog toys and claw clippers for dogs. Well hoppfully no one buys that stuff if they don’t have a dog around… Everything in life is like that! If you are a minimalist you have one leash of each kind you need, not four exactly the same just because you like to shop for your dog. It is interesting to hear what people write to you! Lots of love from Sweden.

I consider myself kind of a minimalist. In comparison to most of my friends, I am a minimalist but some rabid minimalists would say I’m not a minimalist because I have books and I have art on the wall and I have a craft room, I have a collection of mid-century modern swung vases. Yet, I have empty cabinets and empty shelves in my cabinets. I don’t have anything on the floor, except for furniture legs, trash cans and a couple of area rugs. I have a couple of friends and a relative who are out and out hoarders not using the word lightly, actual diagnosed hoarders. My one friend said out loud “I will never get rid of anything ever”. As far as equating minimalism to OCD people don’t understand what OCD is either. They throw this phrase around thinking that it means your neat clean and organized which really is virtually hardly any part of OCD. OCD is obsessive thoughts, if you don’t tap the door knob six times and click the lock three times everybody in Cambodia will die. That’s OCD or people who can’t hold a job because they can’t be on time because they have to keep going back home over and over and over and checking if the door is locked, checking if the iron off, checking if the curling iron is unplugged, over and over and over so they can’t even get to work on time.

When we see certain minimalists on You Tube, a couple of them really make me want to holler at the screen! There's the nice guy with the low hairline who wears black T-shirts! eeeee-e-e!And the soft-spoken blond lady who lives overseas and is so terribly sensitive and updates her furniture on a whim! I had to move from a bad situation, and cousins just shoved stuff anywhere! No pathway in the storage locker! Dolls wave at me from way back. At age 10 I came thru major earthquake, whooping cough, and near divorce of my folks. The tremors and the gasping continued for months. Thirty years later my husband said "Honey, some parts of you are ten years old!" I answered, "You know, you're right!" So two years ago I got dumped into a tiny studio apartment and two years later I'm still looking at 12 or 14 file boxes that have to go! The golden oak dresser that we bought with wedding money is in storage -- and I miss it! The colorful Madonna (turquoise, red, orange) is on the wall with an interesting story. My Nana's "Peaceful Kingdom" picture is over the sewing machine. The old red Indian cotton print bedspread is here in a box. Now that it's hot, I will put it on my bed just like 52 years ago in San Francisco when I was pickled tink to be free from family smothering non-help. I really do have a kind of uniform: washable pants and a BRIGHT cotton knit top -- hot pink, red, turquoise, cobalt, purple, turquoise, mint green, hot pink, cherry red, and teal Many little treasures I'm packing up to go back to storage -- a slice of worn-out cable car, a fine wooden jewelry box my grandfather made for me. I am not a hoarder! You should see my crappy kitchen! I talk to the little girl and remind her we'll have a nicer home maybe within the year. It helps me to know that I can tear apart magazines and save only what I like, put the rest in recycling. Nothing is lost that way.
