You have helped me a lot. When I came to your channel, I was a hoarder. Now I am a person living in clutter. A general rule is that if you have two of something, then give one away. However, what do you do if you own two vests? Wearing one when the other is in the wash. My advice would be to hold on to what you have. The question is though, do we need two coffee percolators? Of course not. I don't think there is a hard and fast rule. After all, who in their right mind would throw away a shoe because they had two?

I have one good quality set of bed linens. I just wash them weekly and replace them when needed. I also just have one pair of jeans, one set of cookware - the Caraway cookware set, one silicone whisk, one spatula, one Monos carryon bag for travel, one watering can, one deodorant, one facial cleanser, one car, one lamp and one storage cabinet. I would like to get some reusable earplugs. Didn't you have a link for Loops on a previous video?

Sounds like we have many of the same things! (Monos and Caraway here too). I have the Loops linked in this video as well :)

Having one extra of things doesn't take up much room at all.
And can be handy in case something happens. Like you get sick or bleed on your sheet. Can't find or break something you need now. And don't have time to buy and have no one to borrow from.
I could never just limit everything to just one.

That’s true. There are more things than I can count that aren’t in the list because I own more than one of them :)

haha, I agree with Johr. 6680.. I'm far on the other side of the aisle on having just one. Some of this is because DH and I are older, with years of time to know what we like, have a large home with lots of storage, and a large garage occupied by just the two of us. Our home is three stories so I found it easier to have multiples. Having those wonderful dyson wall mount vacuums on each floor is great for touch-up daily vacuuming. Multiples of paintings and decor items are housed in the garage and rotated because I like change.
I have a collection of vintage Starbucks coffee mugs. I match the color of my mug to my outfit with morning coffee and have fun doing that.
Our after-dinner routine of music/media/biscotti is topped off with an espresso from a choice from a curated collection of demitasse cups (spatial constraint/all fit in one buffet drawer)
Most of the closets, cupboards, and garage shelves have open space following Mia's class de-clutter.
What I need to do is to pair down my workout clothes, and some dress-up clothes that I keep on a rack in the garage (thinking I'll go to the opera...haha)
My latest fun thing: I had a velvet leopard bathrobe that is too hot for SoCal. I used it to cover an inherited chair to add a little glamour to a corner.
My husband has one style of socks, then pairs of the same so he never has to think about matching the missing socks again.
There's one thing we have one of The Mailbox!
My secret to loving "stuff" (but staying in control): Set up an every-other-month donation truck pickup.
I like this forum because I realize we are all different but all united in wanting to craft an uncluttered life we love.
Mia, simplifying possessions is such a good idea for you because it allows you to focus where your heart is: Your family. Your minimalism, balance, and curation inspire me.
Reading glasses are very chic and businesslike. The sunglasses are very flattering!
The water bottle goes with your hair and with the warm tones and neutrals of your wardrobe.

Great Video to get me thinking of what I don't really need. I have lots of extra bedding and living in a tiny (350 sq ft) I don't have guests either. I have one TV.

I used to have one pair of sunglasses one purse one hairbrush etc until I was in a rush and couldn’t find it. Now with 2-3 I always know where to find at least one. And one pair of jeans etc is all difficult when you are working outside and work doesn’t stop when home, for you have to be preparing for the next working day tomorrow and can’t get the washing (or tidying always done as you’d like to) and your jeans got dirty by the children.
Also at times I want to look a little different when on a special occasion or just for myself and still want to wear comfortable jeans. For me this doesn’t work, I had it a bit like this, but it does not work with everything.
There have been times I wished I had another car key, lol, just because I put it somewhere when stressed or overlooked it because I had a tired early morning- although it was on its place. For me this doesn’t work, it puts additional stress on me, owning 3 hairbrushes now are the perfect number to always have one when I need it. Congratulations that you all are so disciplined and able to manage crazy days so perfectly well, unlike me, it seems, lol…

One set of sheets. It goes in the wash and back on our bed. No catastrophic circumstances so far… 😆 I also live by the principle of one. It works.

Your sunglasses are gorgeous, I love them 😍. After falling a couple of times and ruining my glasses with that I decided to have more than one pair and in the Netherlands if you drive a car you have to have an extra pair in your car by law. I do have one telly (that I hardly ever have on), only one handbag and also just one perfume. But I must admit that I do have most things double.

    • @MiaDanielle

Oh, that's an interesting law in the Netherlands. I didn't know that!

Our family has the one towel per person system too, and it works great! Love the sunglasses!
AirPods… from a holistic perspective, how do you feel about the effects of wireless in your ears a lot? I’ve heard it can be harmful, but haven’t researched it much.

I haven't heard anything about wireless earbuds being harmful, but I don't wear them that often anyway. Glad to see another one-towel person!

I always had one pair of prescription glasses. However, I've gotten older, and now need to take them off to read / mixture of bifocals. So they've fallen off my head on more than one occasion. I've a second pair in case I break them. I need them to drive, see bus numbers, etc... I also have two pairs of computer glasses, one for home office and one for work office - this was because I'd forgotten them on more than one occasion.

    • @MiaDanielle
      @MiaDanielle  4 месяца назад

I know you're not alone in that. I'm able to get away with one pair, but not everyone can. Also, I'm able to go without my prescription if I need to which makes it easier for me.

Fun video, would love to live your life, if I was you. But seriously I'm so far at the other end of the spectrum it would be traumatic.
In most people's lives the series of barriers to disposal is the usual reasons for clutter & they don't really care, they have the space & grow accustomed to (emotional bond with) the old stuff, no matter it's junk.
And nowadays things are reliable. But a reason to have multiple items can be centered around utility - the marines say for mission critical equipment...
In civilian life people like to switch things up. Another driver of impulse purchases...
Rather say optimized than minimalist, the Tibetan monk with his robe, staff, one cup, one rice bowl. THAT is minimal... That also appeals - but maybe for a detox vacation!

  • @olderandwiser78

I could never live like that because I like variety. At 79 I need no reading glasses, but I do need glasses for driving and distance vision. I am constantly taking these glasses on and off. Bifocals do not work because they require a prescription on both halves and 0.5 is the lowest for reading and they are too strong for me. When on vacation and hiking two years ago I lost the glasses on the trail. I needed them to make the 6 hour drive back home. Thankfully I had a second pair with me.
I am one person and I live in a 4 bedroom home on 1 acre with a large garden and fish pond. ( lived here 53 years and have no intention of moving). There is plenty of closet space so I have lots of clothes. I have worn the same size for 30 years and see no need to get rid of things just because I bought something else. Some old clothes get relegated to grubby work or paint clothes. Sometimes I just tuck them away for a year or two and then bring them out and start wearing them again. The same goes for purses and shoes. One side of my closet is for good clothes to wear on vacation and going out and the other side is for everyday wear. I have one car now but for many years I had a car and a pick up truck. I do miss the truck when picking up supplies for the garden.
I wear very little makeup and never anything on my nails. I have never in my life colored my hair and only a couple of times did I perm it. Mostly I wash it and let it air dry. I still have my natural hair color with some salt and pepper gray mostly on top. I eat healthy with nothing processed, no soda, nothing fried, and few sweets. The wrinkles are minimal and most people think I look to be about 60.
