That is so awesome that Yamaha is been upgrading some new electronic drums. Right now I own a Yamaha DD-75 so hopefully they might upgrade that particular electric drums idk
Why not combine a TCS snare with mesh toms in one kit? I think that's what most TCS lovers would prefer to buy. Did Yamaha just want to emphasize the difference in price between the two? I believe the best buy would be a kit with mesh with an extra TCS 12 snare. Too pricey for me though but the vfm is there compared to competition. I would like to see mesh pads on the dtx6 series.
I was wondering for a few years when Yamaha would go higher end for their electronic drums and with larger sizes/mesh options, so seeing the DTX8 and 10 with two head options is really nice. I wonder if they'll put something between the 6 and 8 series (maybe a redesigned 7?) that could make an all-mesh drum set with a 10 inch snare.
I've had a dtx 500 then immediately upgraded to a dtxpress IV, I beat the living piss out of that kit and it lasted 10 years before I sold it, and now some kid is still playing it today. Used a Fender Rumble Bass amp with it for shows, then got my Tama starclassic maple and had no use for it anymore, and now since they're in my studio, I'm not able to practice as much as I would like. And here I am trying to find a new E kit for practice at home lol.
would love it if you did a video about loading samples from a VST onto those new Yamaha modules. Preferably something huge like a Superior drummer kit. It looks pretty cool from their demos but they are a bit ambiguous with the details. Something like it can hold 1000 samples, or it's 250MB of storage (which isn't much for the better sample packs like Platinum Samples), or they also mentioned some time limit of samples you can have. Not sure what that is about. It sounded great on the demo I saw, but with those numbers I suspect you can't get a full detail Superior or BFD kit on there. Hope I'm wrong though.
Not loving how the kick drum moves a lot on the DTX10K. I would integrate it into the rack with some bracing as I have seen other companies do or make it beefier. I attached my Roland kick pad to my rack to stop it from moving. I feel like these electronic drum companies should be consulting with their target consumers more often.
I have an old dxtreme II bitsa kit. I've always liked the Yamaha kits. The new wood shell series are very interesting but I think their pricing is a bit off. I don't know what wholesalers and dealers pay for these kits but the TCS pad thing has a ridiculous price tag. I'm tempted by the higher priced 8 and 10 series with the shells but I look at the EFnote 3x and I can't see that they're worth the extra dosh. I wish these manufacturers would split the module and the cable inputs parts. They could supply input boxes with a lot more expandability and it connects to the module with a singe cable. One of the main issues I have with my DTX400 series is the snare drum mount. The mount is not strong enough to withstand the pressure of repeated blows and begins to sag. I solved this by making a pole that hold the drum at the height I prefer.
Dear Justin, you mention in an older video how you record the electronic drums (along with video) using the i-Rig adapter for your i-Phone. It seems the i-Rig only does mono audio into the iPhone. Is there a way to record it stereo with the phone (without using a laptop and having to sync the video and audio)? Thank you in advance.

I have had a few different brands of e-Drums over the years, I unfortunately won't ever touch a set of Yamaha e-drums again. They're pretty much the only company that decided to wire all of their stuff differently. You can mix and match quite a few other brands of pads and modules, and all kinds of stuff.... but not Yamaha. (I had an old cheap DTX400). I love my acoustic vintage Yamaha Stage Customs, and my current edrum setup is a super old Roland TD6V plugged into a macbook with EZDrummer, all of the pads are Lauren Drums.
What if i am not a begginer but i dont have a big enought place and good sound insolation for the real drums? Are they good for more advanced drummers?
The DTX452K at a discount price is worth it. I have an acoustic set but use the 452K for practice and with software drums. It makes less noise than an acoustic drums and I added a smaller Zildjian high hat to play along with. It sure beats using the practice pads. Kick drum sensitivity is adjustable on the kick pad. The 452 is compact and 3 zone snare works for me. Comparing it to the early electronic sets in the places I coached, the 452 is a whole lot better. The $2.5k sets and above are a better investment for performing though. I’m trying to get use to the pedals on the electronic drums.

I have a yamaha tdk700. I need to replace the hi hat which is going to cost around $400. I don’t know if i should just replace the hat or upgrade the whole kit. I wouldn’t mind replacing the silicone pads with mesh. But i only have about $1400 aud to spend.
Great kit (DTX-1pro)-it feels really good. Obviously a completely different playing experience than the Roland (25KV), I play both. I enjoy the cross-training.
I’ve been looking for a long term electric drum set. I live in an apartment, so a kick pedal might not be the best choice, I also don’t want to spend money on the nitro max because of its bad build quality. Would the Yamaha DTX402K be a good choice? It comes with a practice mode and a few preset. The build quality also seems great
Would you rather own the Yamaha DTX10K or the Roland TD50K2 ? the Roland has digital snare, ride and hi hat. does the Yamaha have any advantage over the Roland ? they both seem similarly priced.
Hi Justin thanks for this video and the one on Roland drumsets. I'm thinking of buying a new kit to replace my roland td11, and yamaha seems to have some nice options. What would you say are the main differences between Yamaha and Roland drumsets around the 1500-2000$ range ?
doesnt seem like yamaha has anything good unless you step up to 2799 for the dtx8k, the dtx6k3x is way too small for the price, unless you're really into the rubber tom and is ok with the smaller pads, td07kvx would be great if you use with a drum vst / daw, and you can get bigger used roland toms, otherwise td17kvx is very solid
Is it possible just to upgrade the modules? I have a TD-17KVX. The pads are fine but would upgrading to a VAD module work with the TD-17 pads? Like velocity and everything
why would you do that? if your using roland with roland it should work but id say if ur upgrading just get like a td27/50 module as a td17 module and td17 vad module are the same except the vad has some extra kits
I have the dtx 402k, which my dad got for me since it was being sold on face book market place on $400aud, but I haven’t used the app for it since I have no connectors for it
Which drum set electronic of course for jazz funk and rock in that order ? 30 years playing on acoustic sets but want to head in new creative direction yet seems like I’ll sacrifice feel esp ride cymbal techniques that no electron cymbal has yet to implement
Hey I hope maybe someone can help me. I am going to start playing drums again after 13 years, with drum school and everything. Now I want a E drum for my home so I can practice. (I owned a Alesis DM6USB Kit way back and this is my only experience with E Drums) Now after hours of research I am stuck between the Yamaha DTX6K2-X and the Roland TD-17KVX V-Drums. Some people I spoke too directly disregarded the Yamaha kit because of the Silicon pads. But in many videos and articles I read that they play real nice and quite which is also nice. And from what I see and researched the DTX Pro module is really nice, I really love the sounds. Sadly the music stores I have here that I can reach (I live very landly) don't have the Yamaha kits in a show room to try them both and compare. What can some of you tell me?
hopefully you see this, I have a pearl masters kit that I use in church but I want more volume control and an easier thing to mix in the livestream. Is it possible to go for this set up>>> silentstrokes on the kit with the drums ret shot triggers into the Alesis strike module us in to my MacBook Pro running either Logic' drums or STeven slate drums?? Would this work?
Does the Yamaha DTX-M snare have positional sensing like the DTX 10? if not, is the snare apt to motorboat and sound monotonous. I'm wanting the sensitivity and varied positions .
These overview videos are.really appreciated. I just would love to see a generell video on drum response, as this is not really talked about in any videos. Do the cheaper brands habe worse velocity response or similar or just worse build quality? Stuff like that.
I'm looking for my first drum kit at Thomann, choosing beetween Yamaha DTX452K and Roland TD-1DMK. The prices mentioned in Your videos are much different that what's available for me (not sure if this is a matter of region - USA vs EU, or time - some of the videos I watched are few years old; probably both!). So here both kits were 700$, but for me the 452K goes for around 590$ (kick pedal included) while the Roland is 720$ (kick pedal NOT included). So yeah, that's a big difference (again, not sure whether the case is region or time), and because of that I think I'll settle for the Yamaha. I think Roland's mesh pads and two-zone cymbals are not worth the extra ~200$ for me (raw price difference + a kick pedal) and drums won't be my primary instrument (guitarist here!) so I'm pretty sure I'll be satisfied with the Yamaha. Although, if anyone's reading this, I'll gladly hear your opinion on this situation!
I was in a similar situation, but I'm a drummer, who plays gigs, with a band, on an acoustic set. I needed an electronic kit, to practice more easily. Because of the reduced noise, and because I can mix sound input with the kit. I didn't want to pay too much, as my acoustic kit gets most of the budget allocation. But I wanted a kit with mesh pads, because I just can't imagine playing on rubber pads. I never tried a kit with rubber pads, but I do have a rubber practice pad. I bought a Roland TD1-DMK. Maybe could have save some money with Alesis, or some other brands, but I went with a known brand. I guess targeted marketing does work after all. TD1-DMK does exactly what I want it to do. It's good enough. But now I'm looking into some upgrades. A better hihat pedal, because this one is crap. A better ride cymbal, because this one is crap. A KT-10 kick trigger, to reduce even more noise. And maybe a TD17 module some day. TD1 does the job, for practice, but it's very basic.
I think Yamaha didn't have a good sense of marketing, they cut off most of their low end kit, and put their 1499 kit with rubber pad is a huge mistake. In 20 century, most purchase consider value. I did a small research in Canada, DTX6KX, 2X, 3X are selling less than 50 last year but Roland are selling TD-07KV, TD-1DMK at least 7per month, Alesis sale more than 300 kits per year. I knew I shouldn't compare quantity to quality but everyone knew rubber pad is cheaper so for "normal people mind-set", if I buy rubber pad it should be cheaper. Mesh head may not have better result than rubber but seems more valuable, that's why their sales is bad even the DTX pro modules is really good.
Sorry, the pricing of Yamaha is way out of line. Why would I choose Yamaha over 2box, etc., which arguably have better, more realistic sounds for less money?
@65 Drums Justin, I would like to know your opinion: Which one would you choose between Roland VAD306 or Yamaha DTX8KM knowing that they cost the same on Thomann? Thanks in advance, love this new series! :)
@@65Drums That was fast, thank you so much! The only thing that worries me about the Yamaha is the issue with the double kick drum pedal that you have pointed in this video

Why so expensive? Totally nuts imho. Think of a the acoustic kit you could get for some of these prices…. These manufacturers are just exploiting the fact that some people just can’t have a “real” drum kit because of noise issues etc.

Lower end seems like *horrible* value. You have to spend $1900 to get away from rubber tom heads?!? What?!?! Roland seems like MUCH better value (and they're not exactly known for their bang-for-the-buck).
A $699 drum kit without mesh pads makes no sense in a world where the Alesis Nitro Mesh Kit sells for $379. Sure, the drum modules from Alesis are not great, but you can always get better sounds externally. You can't replace the feel and size of the drum pads externally.
You’re right except their build quality isn’t good. The snare drum support is terrible and fell off for some people. I think if you’re stilll looking for an edrum kit, cash out a little more on the 402k. Not as much features but at least it isn’t falling apart

So for a beginner drummer, which electric drum kit would be the best? Any brand really.
(I owned a Alesis DM6USB Kit way back and this is my only experience with E Drums)
Now after hours of research I am stuck between the Yamaha DTX6K2-X and the Roland TD-17KVX V-Drums.
What can some of you tell me?
hopefully you see this, I have a pearl
masters kit that I use in church but I want more
volume control and an easier thing to mix in the
livestream. Is it possible to go for this set up>>>
silentstrokes on the kit with the drums ret shot
triggers into the Alesis strike module us in to
my MacBook Pro running either Logic' drums or
STeven slate drums?? Would this work?
Does the Yamaha DTX-M snare have positional sensing like the DTX 10? if not, is the snare apt to motorboat and sound monotonous. I'm wanting the sensitivity and varied positions .
Money no object, I would get the DTX10K TCS in Black Forest finish. Realistically on my budget, I would get the DTX6K3-X.
😢
These overview videos are.really appreciated. I just would love to see a generell video on drum response, as this is not really talked about in any videos. Do the cheaper brands habe worse velocity response or similar or just worse build quality? Stuff like that.
I wonder if there will be a Winter NAMM this year?! Maybe there will be some better/ more price conscious offerings from other e-kit manufacturers!
DTX402K kick is like in Alesis Turbo Mesh? I mean only on/off switch
Is it true that after the DTX 6, that there are no additional sounds when upgrading to a higher quality kit?
I believe you're mostly getting higher resolution on the existing sounds
the reason why Yamaha just recently sells mesh head kits is simple - roland had the patent on it which just recently expired.
Happy New year!🥁
I didn't realise how expensive Yamaha e-kits were
Which drum set has most sensible pads ?
When you still have the Yamaha dtxplorer 😓
Thanks for sharing your knowledge on Yamaha.
Sorry, the pricing of Yamaha is way out of line. Why would I choose Yamaha over 2box, etc., which arguably have better, more realistic sounds for less money?
So basically all 6K series are using DTX Pro module right?
Yup, all the 6 and 8k kits use the DTX Pro. The 10k module uses the Pro X module.
Yamaha: mesh heads aren’t necessarily better, we just reserve them for our highest priced drum sets.
Thanks for making these videos! Very helpful 👍
sure thing!
Perfect! 👌🏻
Can you review alesis drums?
Best one that sounds best is ?
Do you have any thoughts about the millennium mps-850
Have the DTX 8 Mesh kit ..fun to play
@65 Drums Justin, I would like to know your opinion: Which one would you choose between Roland VAD306 or Yamaha DTX8KM knowing that they cost the same on Thomann? Thanks in advance, love this new series! :)
That's tough, I'd want to play them both side by side first. But I'm leaning toward the Yamaha.
@@65Drums That was fast, thank you so much! The only thing that worries me about the Yamaha is the issue with the double kick drum pedal that you have pointed in this video
I considered going at the VADs but.... 🤑
Can you do best drum sets for around $2500
Great stuff, as always.
Awesome series
Anyone know with the dtx-pro module that has "mesh head compatability does that mean a roland pdx 8 or 12 would work as an addon. Thanks
Eventually edrums will sound and feel as good as an acoustic kit for 20X more =p
Nice series
I don’t understand how at this point they refuse to sell a kit at $700 which is a glorified DTX452K with a 4th Tom and a second crash
i buy dtx 432 2n hand for 200 pounds i think is the best deal for practice
Does Rhett Schulz do the voice?
Don’t get me wrong the Yamaha DTX 452 was a good drum when I first got it I was having fun with but as the months and years went on it just Kaina you know wasn’t the same because soon after the symbols don’t work anymore like I can’t get them to play any sound other than hitting them on one side of the symbol like it’s a weird spot and it’s not fun anymore and I feel like the drum pedal for that Series of drum what kind of cheap it just doesn’t have any really good feel do it that’s my personal opinions about That drum
Price
You the man!
The DTX 8-M
YAMAHA DTX VS ROLAND EQUI = ? Help
Why so expensive? Totally nuts imho. Think of a the acoustic kit you could get for some of these prices…. These manufacturers are just exploiting the fact that some people just can’t have a “real” drum kit because of noise issues etc.
i use yamaha dtx 432k
65 Drums,Yamaha is not from japan. Yamaha is made in Indonesia, and exported to Japan
Way better internal Drum samples than Roland in my Opinion
Your videos are very informative! Is it possible to do a vid on the 1986 Yamaha PMC1 Percussion MIDI controller. One of your videos mentioned it, but I can't seem to find a detailed video on this unit. Thank you sir!
yamaha dtx8k vs roland td27kv?
TCS heads
Lower end seems like *horrible* value. You have to spend $1900 to get away from rubber tom heads?!? What?!?! Roland seems like MUCH better value (and they're not exactly known for their bang-for-the-buck).
*horrible*
Sound is more natural to my ears tho. It’s a trade off.
If you’re gonna go cheap I’d buy Alesis.
A $699 drum kit without mesh pads makes no sense in a world where the Alesis Nitro Mesh Kit sells for $379.
Sure, the drum modules from Alesis are not great, but you can always get better sounds externally. You can't replace the feel and size of the drum pads externally.
It just seems like you don't get nearly as much for your money as with an Alesis.
You’re right except their build quality isn’t good. The snare drum support is terrible and fell off for some people. I think if you’re stilll looking for an edrum kit, cash out a little more on the 402k. Not as much features but at least it isn’t falling apart
lol... watching Justin age and put on a few pounds from his early videos. Welcome to aging like the rest of us!
