Joe Qiao If you need official answer you should to apply to laminate floor manufacturers. From my 12 years of experience nobody applied to make a repair for laminate stairs.
Overlapping stair nose is a trip hazard . Especially on a top step. Use interlocking flush nose when available. Walking up those stairs in socks or bare feet is going to be painful
MrYoucandoityourself The reason I ask is because I cannot find the matching bullnoses and this guy told me that commonly they add a darker color to the bullnose to contrast the transitions between steps so no one mis-steps. Have you heard of this technique?
pcproff Yes, I used this technique. The stairs look wonderful if you make big contrast: light treads/risers + dark bullnoses or brown treads/risers and almost white bullnoses. The more contrast - the better!
As a stair builder for over 30 years I would not recommend laminate floor planks for a stair tread application. I can promise you will get squeaks over time. Spend the money and get solid 1" treads. That is unless you want to use your stairway as an alarm system.
The bull nose cannot be raised on a stair edge because it is a trip hazard and against the code. Always cut the stair covering short to let the bull nose settle level with the laminate so there is no raised edge.
Hi Dennis, this type of nosing is standard for a floating floor. You can send your questions to manufacturers and building departments to change the rules. Thanks!
My question is,Do you trim off the ears off the stair after you remove the carpet to make it flush? what i have done its to leave it and glue a little skirt like 1" 1/2 out the the laminate material and then the bullnose,so the tread its still like 11" width.
Please be safe. I think Vinyl, Laminate, and hardwood are all dangerous on stairs. I know carpets are dirty. I think using a easily replaceable carpet runner may be the best way to go. You only have to fall down from a slippery stairs once to realize carpet is the safest option. Since permanent carpet is too hard to replace therefore I recommend a runner option.
Why did you shoot nails through a floating floor. You use adhesive on stairs because it allows for a little swelling. Nails can crack the west layer when the boards naturally react to changes in moisture. It’s fine while the house has active climate control. But let the power go out for awhile or the AC die. You will be replacing those treads.
@@MrYoucandoityourself are you serious? Laminate flooring is mainly pressed together wood held together with glue and a wear layer. When moisture intrudes it begins to swell. Many inproperly installed laminate laminate floors have buckled due to moisture. While you obviously have the skill to do the job, you lack the proper foundation of knowledge to do it correctly. I am a CFI certified flooring installer and I am letting you know that shooting nails through a floating floor is a recipe for disaster, but if your willing to warranty your work. You will find out soon enough. Good luck.
@@mathewhallstein5934 Hi Mathew, this video is very old, around 9 years ago I did this project, and steel no complaints. If you are so certified show the right way for people how to install laminate on stairs - make your video, please. Thanks!
I don’t want to argue with you because for floating floor top nosing should be overlapping floor. In this case overlap nosing on stairs same function and passing any building codes and safe as well. Thanks for watching and commenting!
people on here must be minted. those stair noses cost nearly 30quid each length of 90cm. id need 26 of them to do my stairs. or am I looking in the wrong places?
No one should use laminate on stairs, it's to slippery and the nosing sticks up to high. I have been in a few homes that did this and it hurts your feet to walk on. if you were to wear work boots it would be fine LOL

This looks like he put bullnose over top of plank. Aren’t they supposed to but flat. Not over top
God question! I installed overlap nosing.
What can u do if the stairs is round at the edges? If I need list in front its difficult with round front
Nudrat Butt Please visit my playlists about hardwood and laminate stairs installation and you'll see.
Is that a San Diego oak color?
Where did you get those bull noses.
I didn't buy this laminate flooring, just made the job. Noses are original and come with this floor material.
MrYoucandoityourself The reason I ask is because I cannot find the matching bullnoses and this guy told me that commonly they add a darker color to the bullnose to contrast the transitions between steps so no one mis-steps. Have you heard of this technique?
pcproff
Yes, I used this technique. The stairs look wonderful if you make big contrast: light treads/risers + dark bullnoses or brown treads/risers and almost white bullnoses. The more contrast - the better!
Great!

As a stair builder for over 30 years I would not recommend laminate floor planks for a stair tread application. I can promise you will get squeaks over time. Spend the money and get solid 1" treads. That is unless you want to use your stairway as an alarm system.
Thanks for professional commenting!
Does anyone know if your homeowners insurance would consider this a tripping hazard.
Thanks for watching!
what glue?
+Dennis DesRoches Construction glue or PL400. You can buy it in Home Depot.

Thanks!
HOW ABOUT THE RISERS?????????????????
Do you need to show how to install risers or what is your question?
@@MrYoucandoityourself Your video shows the treads only . I did not see the installation of the riser. Am I missing something ????

Want a long lasting stair? use a F profile on the nose,
Hi Sebastiaan, in this video original nosing for this floor. Thanks for your idea.
Watching that caulk gun was painful

Why did you shoot nails through a floating floor. You use adhesive on stairs because it allows for a little swelling. Nails can crack the west layer when the boards naturally react to changes in moisture. It’s fine while the house has active climate control. But let the power go out for awhile or the AC die. You will be replacing those treads.
Laminate flooring not affected by the moisture.
Thanks!
Bad ideal stair nose to small won't pass building code super slick bust your hip
I don’t want to argue with you because for floating floor top nosing should be overlapping floor. In this case overlap nosing on stairs same function and passing any building codes and safe as well. Thanks for watching and commenting!
@@MrYoucandoityourself do me a favor take your smartphone and Google it then get back to me
people on here must be minted. those stair noses cost nearly 30quid each length of 90cm. id need 26 of them to do my stairs. or am I looking in the wrong places?
Hi Webster, all nosing for laminate stairs 8 foot length. Most of hardwood flooring stores supplying this nosings.
Just ask them. Thanks
That music is so dreadful it made me go home and do things I can't talk about in public. You should be ashamed of what it was though. .
Hi Don, very fanny comment!
No one should use laminate on stairs, it's to slippery and the nosing sticks up to high. I have been in a few homes that did this and it hurts your feet to walk on. if you were to wear work boots it would be fine LOL
I like comments with news ideas and stories!
Not everyone is a sissy. We’ve had laminate and now luxury vinyl planks on our stairs and never had a single issue.
Shut up norm
I had to turn off the video after a few seconds because the music was so loud and annoying.
You can turn sound off, and watch it again. Thanks!
delete the annoying music and speak as you are doing your installation. this music is irritating!!!!!!!!!
Ok, thanks.
Not the right way

Why Americans cannot live without nails ?!
Hi Rafal, Do you have other ideas?
@@MrYoucandoityourself YES! Glue is good enough. When i watch Amerian DIY JOBS,nails are everywhere! I know that you love this pneumatic machine but they are not necessery in this case.
Show your skills, please. I like to learn something new. Thanks!
MrYoucandoityourself Yeah i just go create Video special for you... I want to say that this nails are not needed at all. Rest of the work looks good.
When you share videos on RUclips have to be ready for people opinions.
If you want to lear something new just TRY use only glue without nails. Simple and easy.
Esthetics will be on the higher level, thats it.
