The Morin Khuur has the range it has with just 2 strings because in fact it does not have 2 strings. Each string is a bundle of horse tail strands, so there are hundreds of strings the width of a hair strand. I am always amazed by how loud and rich the sound from this instrument is every time I hear it live. They aren't cellos, it's called a horse head fiddle. They are traditional Mongolian instrument. They either put their finger under the string or pinch it instead of pressing on them like you would on a guitar or cello. Neat huh!?
Hello there It has probably already been said, but there is an interview video about the making of this song. The Hu Band made this song first in Mongolian, then translated it into a Star Wars language. So there are actually two versions of this song. Sugaan Essena translates to Black Flag, I believe... which was the flag of the Great Khan Chinggus, or Genghis Khan as we know him. If you have not yet been aware of, Hu, in Mongolian is short for Hunnu, or 'people' and Human is derived from the word Hunnu, both mean 'man of the people', or just People for short... so Hu is sort of shorthand for 'We, or perhaps Us. I think that 'Us' makes more sense. So when the band is chanting Hu Hu Hu Hu... they are saying Us Us Us Us. I highly suggest you watch the 'making of' video for this song. It has several aspects in it that will surprise you, and I won't spoil your enjoyment by giving you sneak peeks. Please, watch it. NO need for a 'reaction' video, unless you really want to because it's not a song video, but a series of interview clips about the song and it's genesis, and use by EA Games. just a few words, speaking Frank-ly
The Hu is a band that meshes a very modern sound to a very old traditional method of singing. In the times of the Khan's Mongolian songs were war prances.
On the Horse Head Fiddle they don't press the strings like you would on a cello, they put their finger under the string! Some will pinch it. Cool hey!? If you look, in this video, you can see them doing it too!
It is partially mongolian, its a very old mongolian language though that isn't spoken today, they adapted it and made it unique to the star wars universe
