It’s kind of crazy that the high end of their income is $50k, in a job that takes quite a lot of skill and training. That’s about what I make in an entry level b2b technology sales job, and my job doesn’t really take any specific skill or training, or even education. I have an associates degree (never finished my BA), and I have coworkers than range from only having a high school equivalent education to having s masters degree..
Emily Nelson that’s just the sad truth. People don’t realize how hard it is to work the line. I mean there’s media out on it, but when people want to look away they will.
Considering it's new york and it's probably $100 a plate, at least, that salary seems extremely low.. Plus restaurants can get away with paying their wait staff next to nothing...
I've worked sales and worked kitchen. My kitchen coworkers knew they weren't in it for money. My sales coworkers said it was the easiest job ever and that people just hand you their money. Both had horrendous hours and working days compared to traditional 9 to 5s. Kitchen work, hands down, was the more skilled requirement and busiest multi taking. Sales was sitting on my ass till someone came in with their life savings and asked how much I needed from them.
I would love to see Lucie work as a server in a nice restaurant. I feel like serving is something that people don't realize how hard it is till they do it.
I thought she was going to serve it, but when she came out with a dish for herself I was like that’s kinda disappointing because she didn’t experience the pressure of someone waiting on the food...
+Hermy this is a Michelin star restaurant, people are expecting very high quality food, prepared by skilled chefs, reasonably fast. The restaurant wouldn’t have risked unhappy customers for a RUclips video. Nothing against Lucy, she did do a good job, it’s just that she’s not a professionally trained chef and the chefs at vix are and that’s what people are paying for.
This is defo my favourite in the series !! Huge respect for choosing a veggie restaurant too ! As a vegan it means a lot that you've chosen to promote a meat-less dining experience in such a positive way. All the food looks so amazing! Now I wanna see more Michelin stars being given to veggie restaurants!!
I just want Refinery 29 to know how much I enjoy watching Lucie! She’s so great and always makes me feel happy! I subscribed because of her so I hope she continues making videos for a long time ! :)
I'm a trained chef and worked in the kitchen for four years and you have it spot on! although the plating and serving during lunch and dinner hour/s are the most stressful out of all. I would like you to try Teaching or an Assistant Educator.
What I can't understand is why they can't just use a glove that goes part way up their arm for the oven. Surely it'd save a lot of burns and thus improve productivity because people won't be hurt?
Unless your only job is to do the bread, it's impractical. Most likely you're at a station doing multiple things, so having to take the glove on and off can take seconds that would probably add up to an hour or more of just taking the glove on and off. An hour that could be going towards doing something else like putting dishes together for the 30 tickets that's sitting on your rail. I work in a kitchen so this would not work unless that's your sole task.
No one in the world uses gloves working in a tandoor the oven is not placed vertical its horizontal chances are youre going to drop your gloves and burn it and iam a chef who worked at tandoor station its easy after a few burns and plus point you never need to shave or wax the tandoor would do it for you
First of all, it’s not a thing, nobody sells it, it would take to much time taking it on and off, if you weren’t going to take it off then it would be very hard to make the food.
Hi Lucie! Your subscriber from India, I live in the region where tandoor bread ( or "tandoori roti" as we call it) is super common and I've seen it being made since my childhood You did a great job! 😍 And it was super adventurous and brave of you to try it Lots of love from India😘😘
That's....Baigan ka Bharta and Naan. It's such a staple in the North Indian diet. To see a Michelin starred restaurant offer it like that makes me question a lot of things. Also, if you were to see how Mughlai food is cooked, you'd be surprised, and teen chefs and helpers handle tandoor in many establishments as well. Anyway, great video, R29!
Hey Lucie you should hire for Broadway like a techy, aka props, costumes, ect… I know you love seeing shows as proven in your play bill collection... so it could give you a new perspective.
Marvin Dela Merced well at least they can actually spell for Christ’s sake. Also, he’s right. Don’t be annoying, just get out. Don’t cry, dry your eyes.
Oh WOW Lucie you did it!!! I would be terrified to use that oven!!! The food looked amazing. One of my most fav veggies is Eggplant. I love everything about it incl the colour!! What a treat to be able to work in that kitchen and eat that food!!! YUM!!! Great episode!
+rishitasharma Thanks for watching! We upload a new Lucie video every Friday at 11 am! Hit the bell after subscribing on our page for notifications when we upload!
Trying working as a janitor. I worked as one when I was younger and I’ve got so much more respect for the people that do it. Even when I use public bathrooms and I see how some people leave them dirty and think about how it’s such an under appreciated job
I really liked this video! As someone who has been spending 70% of her time working in kitchens for the past 3 years, I think this is a great way to show how much we work. I did almost died when I saw her working with *jewelry* on and how the chef never told her to take it off, that's a big no in the kitchens
I just wanted to comment so Refinery 29 could see and say how much I enjoy watching Lucie's videos. I prefer #trylivingwithlucy but this series is amazing too! Her videos are so entertaining and I hope they continue for a long time! Thank you Lucie and Refinery 29 for making me so happy and for making such great videos!
Next time try working a lunch or dinner rush! People quickly realize just how much chefs bust their ass after they witness one chaotic rush. Great job with this video though! Glad to see you going into a kitchen with a positive mindset! :)
(gonna be that guy...but Kajitsu in NYC is totally vegan and also has a michelin star, has had one for a while) that being said, Nix is one of my faves while kajistu is a wild experience
awesomesauce! I really love Lucie's videos :-) just one question: do all americans pronounce "Michelin" that way? it's french, you guys?! thnx. that market on Union square has very tasty veggies, looks good!
First of all, Great Job with the Bread(fear thing), second, once again, beyond interesting and third, you again found something I wouldn't have the patience to do. I'm trying to remember if I told you, but I AM one the unhealthiest, most boring vegetarians out there. I don't cook and I don't blend which sums up to just - sad. One Day. Until then, Stay You, Thank You and Have a Wonderful Weekend : )
i love these videos and i binge watch them... with that being said that transition song lol can you change it? after 20+ videos of the transition song can drive u nuts.. am i the only one. Sorry my only complaint cuz ilove these videos.
Wow, that’s intense. Didn’t think this would be such a hardcore episode! I can’t believe you put that naan in! Did you have to wash your hands again after touching your face?
My mom also do recipes like this every day... I think lots of housewife doing something like this. But down people accused then to be lazy... But they don't know I have a restaurant in my home. #respectforchefsandmoms
I am so envious of what your were able to do for those few hours! You are awesome Lucy! But keep in mind that someone who is called CHEF DE CUISINE only learned everything about food and running kitchens through work experiences. However, a CHEF DE CUISINE DIPLOME is somebody who studied Culinary Arts or may even have Master's Degree or Ph. D.
What other jobs would you like to see Lucie Fink try on Lucie For Hire? Comment below!
Lucie as a teacher :)
a graphic designer ;)
I think Lucie sould be a horse rider or horse whisperer.🐎🐴
Lucy as a nanny / child care provider
Try becoming an actor. So attend an acting, singing, and dancing class and at the end have a small performance!

It’s just the way it is. High demand jobs make money. Low demand jobs like chefs don’t
Considering it's new york and it's probably $100 a plate, at least, that salary seems extremely low.. Plus restaurants can get away with paying their wait staff next to nothing...
Sales is a skill though. Education is overrated.
I've worked sales and worked kitchen.
My kitchen coworkers knew they weren't in it for money.

So true, I didn’t understand until I had to serve food for hours at an event.
Anna it’s hard work, but not a difficult one.

I'm a trained chef and worked in the kitchen for four years and you have it spot on! although the plating and serving during lunch and dinner hour/s are the most stressful out of all.
I would like you to try Teaching or an Assistant Educator.
Amz Kavenagh thanks so much!!!! That’s a great idea
sous chef Jaime looks like a really cool and fun person to be around. Absolutely love the way Lucie and her interact
Chervon yes isn’t she so sweet???
yes! She even encouraged you and gave you advice when you were afraid or when you made some mistakes ^^ (p/s: sorry I misspelled your name)

I guess they could wear long sleeves
WOWWWW what a day!! So scary sticking my arm in the 700-degree tandoor oven, but glad I made it out with all my eyebrows 😂😂😂
Lucie Fink hi Lucie! Its pronounced Tan like Sun with a T and door like dur. Its a type of Indian bread. 😊 Love this episode. ❤ good job!
You did an amazing job for your first time applying dough to the tandoor! We've got special gloves for you next time ;)
Hi Lucie! Your subscriber from India, I live in the region where tandoor bread ( or "tandoori roti" as we call it) is super common and I've seen it being made since my childhood
You did a great job! 😍 And it was super adventurous and brave of you to try it

@hater I am so glad am in Seoul and can eat dogs. Yummy.
That's....Baigan ka Bharta and Naan. It's such a staple in the North Indian diet. To see a Michelin starred restaurant offer it like that makes me question a lot of things. Anyway, great video, R29!
+samanastrix So glad you enjoyed it!!

In love Jamie's personality!
Hey Lucie you should hire for Broadway like a techy, aka props, costumes, ect… I know you love seeing shows as proven in your play bill collection... so it could give you a new perspective.
+madisonhill Such a cool idea!!
You could try to be an equestrian and work with horses. You will love it. It can be a bit scary but it is really fun and rewarding.
Too much abuse goes on in kitchens.
And if you're a woman is worst with male co-worker
And if you're a woman is worst with male co-worker
Can't take the heat get out of the kitchen lmao. Can't be thin skinned on the line.
@@Chef_JRod Dumbfuck. One of the main abuses that women get in the kitchen is sexual harassment. You're probably one you dipshit.
Marvin Dela Merced well at least they can actually spell for Christ’s sake. Also, he’s right. Don’t be annoying, just get out. Don’t cry, dry your eyes.
Please also do the pastry side of this too, it seems similar but it's so different in comparison and still just as rewarding
this was the best episode i've seen so far! Im glad this is becoming more main-stream it will help the world become more peaceful
Your shirt is soooooo cute!!!!!!!! The food looks greatttttt.

Lucie, you do everything with such beauty and respect. I love watching these.
+exactpi Thanks for being here!

Nice video. I think the sous chef deserves a higher salary. I like your colorful shirt at 11:12
I am in love with this series 😍😍
You should try being some type of retail worker...it's harder than it looks!
I just wanted to comment so Refinery 29 could see and say how much I enjoy watching Lucie's videos. I prefer #trylivingwithlucy but this series is amazing too! That looks SO cool!!
yey! cool video, really represents those who work in food!
Jamie seems like a f'''in amazing teacher. That, combines with being a great chef is really impressive.
I am so happy they put in that order because all that I could think was "that poor server"
The oven confuses me. Why do people use that instead of a regular oven what is the special use?
Savannah Harris temperate and the fact that you're using a direct flame instead of a baking tray
Love your work keep it up ☺☺
+luisgonzalez Will do!
You should remove all the rings before even starting to cook!!
Hi Lucie!!! This episode was so amaziiiiing and you did a great job😁❤ for the next episode could you do 5 Days of Being a Teacher????
1:47 thats conan O'brien 😂
In the Philippines, the jicama is very familiar to singkamas!
Correction: Nix isn't the only vegetarian restaurant with a star. There's Kajitsu, right in NYC that also has one.
Ilysm Lucie!!!!!!!!!
+caro
Trying being a professional sailor like a racer. It is exhilarating but can be tough
Where my Mexicans with the Jicama y salsa buffalo 😂
You should try auditioning for something musical-theatre related! It should be a REAL audition though, with the other people who are trying out!
Next time try working a lunch or dinner rush! People quickly realize just how much chefs bust their ass after they witness one chaotic rush. Great job with this video though! Glad to see you going into a kitchen with a positive mindset! :)
that food is gorgeous!
this was great
(gonna be that guy...but Kajitsu in NYC is totally vegan and also has a michelin star, has had one for a while) that being said, Nix is one of my faves while kajistu is a wild experience
Well, the video-producing worked: I both want to eat AND work there. Congrats!
That oven that you stuck your hand into is no joke!
this is a great video from a michelin star chef.
Next job: car mechanic...? 😬
awesomesauce! I really love Lucie's videos :-) just one question: do all americans pronounce "Michelin" that way? it's french, you guys?! thnx. that market on Union square has very tasty veggies, looks good!
Anyone else catching the chefs table vibes during the plating part
Emma Hague HAHA yes! So glad you caught it 😍
Love you Lucie!

Please work in Tiffany’s or Max Brenner’s for a day. Or at a Cirque show.
Putting the arm in the oven is pretty stupid. Why don't they build a metallic extension for the "pillow"?
You look like that girl ruby who has the music video called ruby rock.
I love your videos keep up the great work and have a great day.
Ammmm i love the Jicama with chile piquin...
LOL Lucie is so funny. I'm not a vegetarian, but holy hell these dishes are bloody amazing!
Made me hungry!
Wow! You left you your eyebrows, ten fingers, no oven scars. Congratulations!
