That's the thing about older vans--they don't always have parts available. Mine is a '94 and my airbag sensor is 'obsolete" and there is no replacement. I just watch the light blinking, wondering if the stupid thing would work, or if it will just pop out of the steering wheel at some random time... Adventure awaits! lol

Nice and simple. A lot of people don't realize how little it takes to be able to travel comfortably.
And a good point, if you are not too skilled mechanically try and keep your systems simple enough that you can repair them or at least rig up something that will work for a while until you get what you need. What a nice girl! It's always a surprise to hear someone tell it like it is, vanlife isn't always rainbows and unicorns. But if you have a means to make an income and can live with the basics comfortably it is a great way to see all this country has to offer.
Thanks for doing this interview Brian you asked the real questions and we heard real answers. How refreshing is that! Happy travels!
    Beeps.

I had a 1994 Dodge van. It was one of the most reliable vans I ever owned. Had well over 200,000 miles. I never lived in it, but went to a lot of 'vanning events' and camping trips with my wife. My latest van is a 1993 Chevy van.

I have a 99 dodge van with 188,000 miles on it. The 318 Engine in it is still strong. But I've pit A LOT of money into tho this thing mechanically. I don't live on the road but plan to when the wife retires. I do solo road trips for now. If she hasn't already, I would replace the PCM in that van. They can go out at the drop of a hat with no warning. It's about a $1,000.00 repair but better than being stuck in the middle of nowhere. Great interview

Very cool interview, just subbed her channel, I like her van layout, very practical without being over done. I like the cabinets in the high top, lots of useful storage, the only thing she needs is a 2 gallon pump sprayer with a shower head, a small portable porta potty she can slide under the bed, thanks for sharing Brian, I'm still in the Bahamas on my Dana 24 sailboat, I left Spanish Wells in the Eleuthera Islands and back tracking towards the Berry Islands, actually making a very slow track back to Florida before hurricane season starts....

I run a 1983 dodge b250. Mine is not a high-top but, I have acquired one to install sometime soon. I am a mechanic. The mechanics brushing your issues off as a bunch trouble shooting due to age, are just to blowing smoke. Alot of people dony like to work on vans. They think its difficult because the cany jusy plug a computer into it or flip open the hood. Any vehicle that has a problem requires troubleshooting to remedy the issue. Every vehicle. No mattet how old or new. If someone says that to you when you ask if they can repair your van, find a different mechanic. Because the person doesn't want to work on your van, and if he does work on your van,he wont do a good job because he doesn't want to be doing it.

People don’t change the transmission fluid, power steering fluid, and radiator fluid which makes the 2nd 100,000 more difficult. Just a suggestion. I didn’t either but changing radiator fluid decreases rusting. Trans fluid vastly prolongs trans life and every 50,000 is good. Power steering change is easiest by most people with a baster and tube sucking old out and new in (about 5 times will refresh the old stuff. Not ideal but easy). So, these basics are what i have learned. Also, keep a spare fan belt and radiator hoses/clamps. Happy vanning Karli.
