I spent a summer as a camp host in a similar situation to yours, also in Colorado. People who take these jobs as quick easy cash are missing the point. Yes there is a salary, but there is also the site fee that is waived. Depending on the site, $15 to $35 per night is also part of your wage. And you don't have to start at 8 a.m., or work straight through to 5 p.m. Take a break in the middle of the day and have lunch down by the river. No commute, fresh air, wild life, it's the best way of life there is!!!!
Great job. Free place to park in a beautiful area and getting paid, too! I have watched your videos for several years since I have been on RUclips, and I always enjoyed your travels with Kelly. Life changes and we move on. Good luck with your job this summer. Take care. I’ll be watching. 🍀🍀
All Camp Hosts I’ve met love to gab. As a camper, that’s great for me. Hosts are especially helpful with information. The greatest variability I’ve seen is in the job of cleaning the pit toilets. Some hosts neglect them. Some hosts keep them sparkling clean. I admire anyone who can do this part of the job!

I met and started dating a camp host once it was a truly magical summer. It's a perfect balance of being in beautiful nature, helping other people out, and some humble work cleaning bathrooms. (We started watching your videos together in 2015.) It looks like a beautiful and peaceful place enjoy your summer. 🌲✨🌲
Elena and I will head your way in mid-late August. We’ve camped in two different campgrounds at Trappers several times over the last thirty years. I have a feeling that we may find no vacancy signs while you’re there. LOL!
Great video, my wife is the mgr of the Salida district & I am maintenance lead over the Salida, CO district. We have approximately 13 campgrounds from ~6,000 to 11,500' our district is one of the smaller districts with our area, thus I put around 250 miles per day doing my duties. We had been a camp host here twice and didn't know we'd be one management until we got a call from the previous mgr encouraging my wife to apply, this our 3rd year here. We have 8 hosted sites, about half are couples. I have two maintenance staff & we keep pretty busy. I can say that working as a camp host & in maintenance for our concessionaire has been 10x more satisfying that workamping for private campgrounds, Adventureland, the sugar beet harvest, & sell Christmas trees. We even managed a 200-sute private campground for 6 years while also doing elder care, but we like managing camp hosts 100x better as we get to guide ourselves from day to day. I do say I have to pace myself or I will have 60 in pain overtime hours per week. Sometimes I take a day off & head to the pass with my Ham Radios to relax & reflect on why we are here. Keep up the good adventures! Dave & Sheila
That job looks perfect for you, Brian. At my age of 77, I know I'd last about 2 minutes trying to do all that yard work! Have a great summer! That's such a gorgeous place. Wish I could be there, but not having to do all that work!!!!🙂
9,000’ elevation with a beautiful creek running thru. I hear Tenkara fishing and catching and releasing those beautiful CO Brooke Trout calling. Paradise and enjoy the summer
Perfect job for you without being micromanaged, and for the summer. It will be definitely on my radar to visit someday while exploring Colorado. Thank you for sharing your experience and perspective on camp hosting. I hope that your positive attitude is infectious! So sad to hear about the host that passed away on the job he loved. So many people work most of their work life not doing what they love for more money. I’m all for dying broke enjoying life and adventures.
Dude what a spot! Insanity the privatization of EVERYTHING. Thanks for sharing your journey and keeping it real. Your stuff is as authentic as it gets. Rad bro.
Brian, I’ve always enjoyed your videos. Highlights: a couple of years ago (pre-Kelly) you made a burger on your grill that made my mouth water, I admired the care you took to prepare a tasty nourishing meal for yourself; your tour of the town you lived in in California and your philosophy of leaving it behind; opening up about your mental health struggles and how you manage your self-care; learning the details of the beet harvest and salmon work in Alaska; early days with Kelly and how you played so well together and each did your own thing with videos; now this season of life sprucing up a primitive campground in Colorado. I went to the RTR in 2018 and took a campground host job in the Santa Fe National Forest as an employee of the forest service that summer. I was close enough to the independent living facility where my disabled husband was cared for to come home on my two days off to do laundry, shower and see to his needs. .My gig was cut short because we had to close the Forest due to fires. I was encouraged to stay on and do maintenance work. I had a week of the campground to myself with my 8 y/o grandson before a family emergency took me away. My neighbor host ended up in my spot and painted tables in all the sites. Life has taken me in a different direction, but I will always remember the serenity of that job. Be well.
WOW! This job is so meant for you. It's a beautiful location! Just listening to your voice off camera, you sound content and at peace. Thanks for sharing this video. Looking forward to more if you have time🌳 😎 🌳
Hi Brian, they are blessed to have you. You have improved the appearance of the camp already. I'm very happy for you. YOU deserve to be happy, comfortable and healthy. God bless you my friend. Thanks for sharing your new life with us, I wish you the very best. Your friend, Louise
Terrific and beautiful video, thank you. I’m a native Coloradan and I have altitude issues (above about 8000 ft.), but I’ve learned a lot in my 60+ years going up the hill (my home in Golden is about 6700 ft., but that doesn’t help me when I go. Anywhere near 10,000 ft! Good news is that you will most certainly acclimate to the lack of oxygen. If you are living up there (which you appear to be), you will acclimate in about 1-2 weeks. But things to avoid once you get to higher altitude include alcohol (temporarily) and any other recreational substances that alternate your disposition. And avoid over-exertion, which means sitting around most of the first few days and drinking copious amounts of WATER, then drink some more. Anyway, I’m not sure anyone will read this, but I wish you success up there!
Glad to see you settling in well to the new job. You have a very gentle, tolerant way of saying what I'll say plainly: You've done real work in your life. Camp hosting requires real work. You're prepared for it. Those who have never done real work...maybe not. Peace my friend!
Glad you found a beautiful place to work and spend some time! I'm at 8200' here in Southern Colorado, have been here a year, and working outside is still exhausting. 😅
I just came in for a little break (weed waking my sisters property at Ocean shores.) you just motivated me to do the other side! Win, win work camping job☮️
Great scenic views. Beautiful area with a creek. I can see why they want to make money on the location. Cutting all that grass and the flowers in bloom, my first thought is allergies. lol Hope your summer continues to be great.
You read my mind - just as I was wondering about your required hours, you jumped in with the info! It certainly does seem as though it's perfectly suited to your skill set and love of nature. I'm sure you'll take good care of it and they'll want you back. I have questions about the current system - but we'll see. Since I can't leave hubby alone to go camping anymore and he can't join me, my camping days are over. Dang shame but we live with what we are dealt. Best wishes for a great summer and in such a beautiful place. I'm happy for you to have chosen this position.
When you create beauty, beauty comes back to you. I also was a landscaper. Once a landscaper, always a landscaper. We had also been working in campground RV parks and some needed just couples and no singles. It tells me that what is important is living each day the way you want to live life. Thanks great job from a Colorado native
Perfect fit all the way around. Great find for you & they have no idea how lucky they are to have an honorable, conscientious & experienced person working for them. I hope you have a great summer there & as always look forward to more videos. ✌️🏞🏕 🌅 🛶🌞
Awesome Gig Brian, I enjoy yard work as it takes my mind away from other things in my life that are troubling me. I also find after the work is done the satisfaction and sense of accomplishment I feel after a job well done. Hoping your Summer job is lifting your spirits Brian. Cheers Mate!
What a wonderful opportunity you have. The best of both worlds! I was a camp host State Park in Ohio summer 2023. One word of caution, poison ivy oak and sumac. That stuff followed me to Quartzsite for the winter. I finally healed from it!! At least you have solar and internet. Too bad your not issued a gator to help you get around. Be safe, carry your bear spray. Have fun and enjoy!!!
If you find you really like doing the more remote hosting, Nehalem Falls Campground is in the forest 10 miles from Wheeler on the Oregon Coast. Its a small campground with 15 sites and an additional 5 walk-in tent sites. Also along the Rogue River, Almeda, Galice, Indian Mary are small campgrounds mostly used for launch sites for rafters/kayakers putting onto the wild and scenic section of the Rogue. There are also some remote campgrounds that are hosted up near Mount Hood that serve mostly hikers and climbers. Hope you have a great summer.
While no one likes to pay, the concession is adding value such as the trimming and cleaning, so I don’t begrudge them. I have seen many free roadside spots here in the east littered with beer cans and trash . Leave it cleaner than I found it is my motto, but not everyone’s
Can't wait for some fishing videos! The White is full of huge browns and white fish. I got some extra waders if you want some. I'll be up there soon but closer to meeker. Lemme know if you need someone to grab an online order from Walmart or something.
Wow. They are sooo very lucky to have you and your skills. And I see the satisfaction you are having in doing a job not only well but helping to solve real problems, like the locks. Seriously, this seems a perfect situation for both you and the management company. 🌞
Brian, congratulations, you have nailed a job that you are very much qualified. This could lead to a very well paid future doing what you love. Good luck,
Brian you will do a great job at anything you put your mind to. Even in mowing grass you took the time to leave some wildflowers. You are truly amazing for the world around you. Looking forward to your videos. Happy Trails my friend
I look forward to hearing more about the camp hosting position. Thanks Brian. Sad to hear about the man who passed, but glad to hear he was doing what he loved. Have a GREAT weekend! ✌️
I told a lady in the Butterfly Tribe group I'm in about your campground. She was looking for a spot out of the heat. So she might make her way there. Good job on cleaning up. You have always been an advocate of leaving no trace. Ty for sharing your day with us as always
Well, someone just won the lottery with you, Brian! In all your summer jobs, clearly this is what the doctor ordered, right at the perfect time for you. Sounds like the perfect job situation for you Brian. With your employment background and your exceptional work ethics your new employer should be thankful to have you and give you all the equipment you need. That campground will be transformed in no time. At 9000 ft you should feel like Superman at lower elevations. Hopefully this job situation will give you time to reflect on your past and show you a clear and positive future. You're living a dream life for most people. Keep enjoying all your adventures and thanks for sharing...
It’s beautiful there! I’ve had several jobs at fruit processing and juice plants. On cleanup day we’d spray foamy bleach on everything then pressure wash it off. That would be a quick way to clean campsite restrooms. But I guess bleach on the ground outside wouldn’t be environmentally friendly.
Loving this new content Brian! We also watch a lot of lawn channels too😅. This is a great gig for someone with your background. Looking forward to seeing the campground transform under your capable hands! Take care my friend I've yet to meet 😎 ✌️
What a wonderful place to be for the summer. I'm loving those glorious bird songs in the background. The satisfaction of seeing tangible results of a days work and the joy and gratitude you're expressing sure do speak to this being a perfect fit for you !
Hey Brian. You certainly look in your element there and the scenery is breathtaking. Hope you have a great summer and we'll be waiting for any episodes you put out🤙🏻
Hi Brian, good to see you settling into your new job mate. Being self motivated can be a great asset in most jobs, having the willingness and can do attitude will get you a long way in life. Wishing you well in your venture. Cheers Michael
God Bless you Brian. I know a clean campsite is always appreciated, we like to drive through and choose the perfect site for our needs, most times ya can’t with having to do everything online. That’s thin air take it easy on yourself.
They are fortunate to have you as a host!
Should get a bonus just for being Brian!
Now that we know it's nice, quiet and low occupancy we can all head your way

You've always been such a great steward of campsites and the land in general. Great job turning that into some paid work! Quite the backdrop, too.
You look like you have settled in Brian and the campground is in great hands.
You are living the dream Brian, getting paid to camp.
Wow. Now that’s what you call scenic and peaceful.
As a former campground host for years, I’m really enjoying your posts on your hosting experience! Thanks!
Such a beautiful place. I love that your are tweaking the campsites to make them more desirable... Great Job.
I like how you left a strip of grass to "separate" the campsites.....nice touch !
I met and started dating a camp host once it was a truly magical summer. It's a perfect balance of being in beautiful nature, helping other people out, and some humble work cleaning bathrooms. Most guys would have left when they found out there was no riding lawn mower. You do good work looks good.
Seems like the right "fit" for you Brian! So glad to see your face looking peaceful & happy...enjoy your time there, & have a lovely summer!💖
That job looks perfect for you, Brian. At my age of 77, I know I'd last about 2 minutes trying to do all that yard work! Have a great summer! That's such a gorgeous place. Wish I could be there, but not having to do all that work!!!!🙂
Doing that manual labor at 9,000 feet, I’d last 1 minute.
I'm glad to see you are enjoying the job and still have time for yourself.
That is such a beautiful peaceful looking campground. It's nice to see you at ease & smiling again.
9,000’ elevation with a beautiful creek running thru. I hear Tenkara fishing and catching and releasing those beautiful CO Brooke Trout calling. Paradise and enjoy the summer
Trapper’s Lake south of the campground has a ton of trout, too. It’s at 10,000 ft and it’s a hike to get to it from the parking lot.
We love being a volunteer camphost. Enjoy your time and meet amazing people.
Trimming can also reduce tick issues in sleeping and cooking areas... looks like nice hammock camping too.... well done... thanks
Good ethics, hard worker, and landscaper!! They did well to hire you!!

I'm glad it is going well, hopefully it will become a regular seasonal thing for you. You certainly have the right background for being a host.
I work at a large state park. What you say is true, very few people are a good fit for being a camp host.

Brian wow what a job as sounds great. When I was younger I enjoyed doing yard work. The views around there are awesome. Sounds good to me and thanks.
Great vid, Brian! Looks like you’re a good fit for your new job! Enjoy! 😊
You do give great value for the money they are paying you. All the best to you and as always, adventure on !!
I’ve been a maint tech for 25 years, did landscaping as a young man, this job would be a perfect fit for someone like me

You picked the best company to host for. Congratulations 🎈 and welcome to the team 🙃
Brian, congratulations, you have nailed a job that you are very much qualified. This could lead to a very well paid future doing what you love. Good luck,
Congratulations reaching over 100,000 subscribers 🎈

Wow! You are very skilled for that job. I love the detailed videos. What a beautiful place to be one with nature.
Love that. What is the name of the campground?
I’m planning my summer trips around CO. Would love to stay there. Great job.
Himes Peak. Meeker, CO
Thank you, Brian.
You Da'Best!
Well, someone just won the lottery with you, Brian! In all your summer jobs, clearly this is what the doctor ordered, right at the perfect time for you. I couldn't be happier for you ... just as satisfying to you doing all the work, it was just as satisfying watching you and seeing the end results! It's going to be fun seeing this campground the day you arrived compared to the day you leave, especially with some drone footage. These are absolutely BEAUTIFUL and peaceful campgrounds. ♡

S & B Mowing. He's awesome to watch, too)
Look at that view behind ya 😊

What a wonderful experience! It's beautiful there and looks like a perfect fit for you. Thanks for showing us around - I love it all!
They are lucky to have you! Big difference from the before and after
Great work, Brian. You have such a cool job and seem very content in the role. So happy for you!!!
Huff and Puff.... coming out of the desert to the humidity! I couldn't even walk up a hill 😬😆
❤😊 great channel add more hash tags so folks can find you❤😊
Loving this new content Brian! We also watch a lot of lawn channels too😅. This is a great gig for someone with your background. Looking forward to seeing the campground transform under your capable hands! Take care my friend I've yet to meet 😎 ✌️
Nice work! My wife and I stayed at the campground in 2022. What a beautiful place.
Fascinating😉Outdoor work😊Have a great summer Brian🌲
I going to love your summer videos. Great location. You appear very happy.
You really lucked out again Brian that's an amazing campground to have to yourself most of the summer!
Looks wonderful, just the right man for the job, escape the scorching lowlands, self motivated, good on you. Greetings from Australia.
Stunningly gorgeous place. Thanks for sharing
You are a good steward of the land. Enjoy your work.
Good for you Brian, yes very beautiful and bonus, you get to make it better. That's pretty cool. I like cleaning up camping areas.
What a wonderful place to be for the summer. I'm loving those glorious bird songs in the background. The satisfaction of seeing tangible results of a days work and the joy and gratitude you're expressing sure do speak to this being a perfect fit for you !
Cleaned up nice. I see how that job brings satisfaction. Your doing a great job 👍
What a delightful video, thank you. You made even a video for a campsite host job educational and beautiful. You make the difference
I spent the summer of 2018 working there, based at North Fork Campground. Loved the area. Watching your videos is bringing back great memories.
Thanks for the background on being host. They are lucky to have found you.
