I read "Gracie a Love Story" written by George Burns many yrs ago. You cannot read that wonderful book w/o shedding a tear at times. She was quite a woman and ahead of her time. May she and George rest in eternal peace.
And that Evil White Supremacist Movement is raising it's evil head again in America right now, they want to take us back to those Dark days, when they Thought America was "Great" We must be forever vigilant and make sure those Civil Rights workers did NOT die in vain
Thank you for this video. One person who could have been included was the charismatic and very popular race car driver Eddie Sachs, who was affectionately called The Clown Prince Of Auto Racing. Eddie was a great race car driver, who won the pole position for the Indianapolis 500 in1960 and 1961and came second in the 1961 race. Sachs seemed destined for an Indy 500 win in his career but it never came. Unfortunately, Eddie was killed on May 30, 1964 during the running of the Indy 500 when he was involved in a fiery and horrific accident which was caused by rookie driver Dave MacDonald. To make matters worse, MacDonald was driving a relatively unsafe car and had been warned by other drivers about taking part in the big race.
Wonderful how you keep the memories of these greats alive... wow, Sam Cooke has been gone all this time! I was 3 years old in 1964 and got to share the air with all of these. Thank you. ❤
Thank u for ur lovely tributes. The 1960s, were a really turbulent time. I thank those 3 men, for their contributions twds the Civil rights movement. RIP Sam Cooke. And may God bless all of the decedents.🕊💐🌻🪽
In looking at the image of Matilde Moisant, it is clear that she is sporting a decorative pendant incorporating a swastika. I did a quick check and it seems she stopped flying permanently in 1912, and this image was clearly snapped before that date. A little more checking revealed that up to the early 20th century (long before the Nazis) the swastika, a sacred symbol in Hinduism and Buhdism, was often used as a symbol of luck and was used in ornaments like this. Anyway I was curious and wanted to avoid any uninformed piling on against her in case anyone saw the symbol and didn't do homework. This is not to say that NO famous American aviator had an intellectual love affair with the Third Reich and eugenics....but that's a story for another day.
Yes, I have a wonderful framed picture of Ganesha and his palm facing the viewer - has a red swastika on it. It is an ancient religious symbol in Hinduism.
R.I.P. to Kathryn Cord as Mrs. McGillicuddy on I Love Lucy and Perry Mason. Seems like their were too many actors, actresses and singers that died too young from Cancer, Strokes, Pneumonia or Drug Overdoses. Sad.
I have loved Alan Ladd all my life. His films are always fan to watch. I collect them in dvd and trying to get all those from the thirties in which he was extra or supporting player. God bless him for all the joy he has given us.
To think we lost Gracie Allen, Harpo Marx, and Stan Laurel all within six months. Such tremendous losses not only for the comedic community, but the entertainment industry as well.
So many people died of pneumonia - I had pneumonia 2x in my life once as a child and once later in life. Never thought of pneumonia as life threatening.
Nancy Astor was the second female MP in the UK, but she was the first to take her seat. The first, Constance Markievicz, was an Irish Republican and refused to appear in the House of Commons or pledge allegiance to the King.
I like this channel, the channel producers should consider using the same format and length to do a history recap of year. Maybe a second channel that focuses on history.
Kitty Genovese's murder was a very sad event that had to lead to the development of the 9-1-1 system, only good thing was the killer was caught soon after and spent the rest of his miserable life in prison.
@@shaider1982 Well they say the numbers were exaggerated by the press, but no matter what the true number was it doesn't change the fact that people still saw and or heard what was happening and still did nothing to help her. Just like the case in 1965 with Sylvia Likens, the neighbors heard and some saw what was happening to that poor girl but nobody did anything to help her because they didn't want to get involved.
You included Fireball Roberts, but you forgot another NASCAR driver who died early in the year - Joe Weatherly, the so-called 'clown prince of NASCAR', who died in a racing accident at Riverside Raceway in California on January 19th at age 41. He was the defending (and two-time) champion of the NASCAR Grand National Series (today known as just the NASCAR Cup Series) at the time of his fatal accident.
Another fantastic video. Wanted to give Honorable Mention to author T. H. White who wrote the series of novels based on the legend of King Arthur ; most notably The Sword in the Stone. He passed away from heart failure on January 17, 1964. Also, according to Wikipedia, Lillian Copeland passed away on July 7, 1964. You have her date of death as June 7 in the video.
Nancy Aster was the target of one of the greatest verbal comebacks in History. At a cocktail party she approached Winston Churchill and told him "Winston if I were your wife, I'd poison you, to which Churchill replied, "Nancy if you were my wife, I'd take it."
You struck out leaving Fred Hutchinson off this list. He was 51 when he died of lung cancer in 1964. His death opened the door for St. Louis to steal the 1964 World Series. And you struck out leaving out Johnny Keane Cardinals manager of this "Bob Handley" team. He died in 1967 at age 58.
The 1964 St. Louis Cardinals wouldn't have won the National League pennant if it wasn't for the Phillies infamous collapse at season's end by losing their last ten games.
Seem most who died of natural causes in that era died from non-cancer reasons even though smoking was very common then. Today cancer is the most prevalent.
Note: the story that "38 people watched Kity Genovese stabbed to death" was a myth. The people heard something but it was not cleat what was happening.
I read "Gracie a Love Story" written by George Burns many yrs ago. You cannot read that wonderful book w/o shedding a tear at times. She was quite a woman and ahead of her time. May she and George rest in eternal peace.
Yes, I have read that book. Makes you love both Gracie Allen and George Burns - and their life together was a Love Story.
Thank you for including those who were murdered trying to make sure every citizen has the right to vote in the USA.
Thank you for including the three civil rights workers❤
Of course!
And that Evil White Supremacist Movement is raising it's evil head again in America right now, they want to take us back to those Dark days, when they Thought America was "Great" We must be forever vigilant and make sure those Civil Rights workers did NOT die in vain

"There is not enough kindness in this world." (Closing Peter Lorre line from "The Mask Of Dimitrios" a great 1944 Warner Brothers mystery!)

Sometimes you're astonished that some have passed 60 yrs ago. Thank you

Thank you for doing this series. As I always say. Time is infinite, but life is not. I have all of these tributes.
In looking at the image of Matilde Moisant, it is clear that she is sporting a decorative pendant incorporating a swastika. The symbol only became the Swastika when turned 45 degrees. If shaped or drawn at right angles it is as you describe.
Yes, I have a wonderful framed picture of Ganesha and his palm facing the viewer - has a red swastika on it. It is an ancient religious symbol in Hinduism.

Amazing to think the era many of these people were born in and what they witnessed in their lives.
I like this background music the best of any of these videos. Not sad at all, but pleasant and uplifting in a quiet way.
Two of my favorites, Gracie Allen & Cherrio Meredith. Two great comedians .RIP
To think we lost Gracie Allen, Harpo Marx, and Stan Laurel all within six months. Such tremendous losses not only for the comedic community, but the entertainment industry as well.
@@meggieh69 Loved all 3.
Also, Sean O'Casey, legendary Irish playwright, died on September 16, 1964 at the ripe old age of 100.
So many heart attacks and pneumonia deaths at early age…. Still wish for the “Good Old Days”?
Thank you for these uploaded tributes. Means a lot.
So many people died of pneumonia - I had pneumonia 2x in my life once as a child and once later in life. Never thought of pneumonia as life threatening.
Thank you for your hard work!
Thank you for including the three civil rights workers. But the names of Andrew Goodman and James Cheney are mixed up.
.....these tributes are so good, I look forward to each new one,.... hope you go back to the 1900s.....🎉
It seems that there was a lot of pneumonia going around back in 1964, because a number of celebrities passed away from it.
So many young people. 💔 Thank you Vince. Great work. 🌹
Nancy Astor was the second female MP in the UK, but she was the first to take her seat. The first, Constance Markievicz, was an Irish Republican and refused to appear in the House of Commons or pledge allegiance to the King.
Nancy Astor was born in Virginia.
Happy to see the Republican passed Civil Rights Act on here! Thanks!!
So many the victims of unavailable medical treatment that was not available in that time.
I like this channel, the channel producers should consider using the same format and length to do a history recap of year. Maybe a second channel that focuses on history.
Thank you for that suggestion.
Eddie Sachs and Dave McDonald both died in a crash at the Indy 500 in May of 1964
A very different world and yet many issues of the day are still being debated now.
Kitty Genovese's murder was a very sad event that had to lead to the development of the 9-1-1 system, only good thing was the killer was caught soon after and spent the rest of his miserable life in prison.
Though the "38 people watched without doing anything" was a myth.

Jim reeves was the pilot and crashed his plane, he died too young.
Great C/W singer of an era totally gone today.
Ironic, his name is also his cause of death: Fireball.
Another fantastic video.

Mr. Goodman’s and Mr. Chaney’s names are reversed.
Harpo was a genius
Waite Phillips donated an office building in TULSA not Tulda
03/31/1964: Brazil entered the military coup, which began the 21-year period of military dictatorship (03/31/1964-03/15/1985).
I always feel a bit sad for those who through some other set of circumstances, or personal choices, who could still be alive today.
You mixed up the pictures of the 3 murdered civil rights activists. Goodman is on the far left, Cheney is in the middle.
They can't include every human being that died in 1966!!
I don't think Fred would be too concerned.
Why don't you start your own channel instead of criticizing someone else. Get a life
@greglehmann7234....looking forward to the videos you create about insignificant deaths
1967 isn't 1964.
The 1964 St. Louis Cardinals wouldn't have won the National League pennant if it wasn't for the Phillies infamous collapse at season's end by losing their last ten games.
Fireball Roberts got his nickname,
"Fireball" because of his fastball when he pitched for the Zellwood Mud Hens an American Legion Baseball Team .
I believe you mixed up the names of the three civil rights workers.

I wonder how far back you can go
RIP: Edward Van Sloan,...actor was in Frankenstein, Dracula (both 1931) and The Mummy (1932)....

7:30. According to husband George, Gracie was smart enough to be the World's Dumbest Woman.
Is that a swastika emblam on Matilde's chest?
That was in 1911, it was a symbol of auspiciousness and good luck for most of the Western world until the 1930s.
Who gives a shite. Life goes on.
Thank you for the acknowledgment of the civil rights activists; but the name of the Black man was James Chaney...
