Let's Build A Commercial Break-In-A-Box [Broadcast Engineering]

In this video I show you a fun solution to a problem we faced as a result of the pandemic during our broadcasts of high school football. The commercial break-in-a-box is a standalone, stoplight approach to coordinating TV timeouts without the need for an actual timeout coordinator (red hat). I hope you enjoy this project!

That’s a great idea. We literally just struggled with this same thing this past weekend. We were using radio communications to officials and the first break they realized the radios had some issues. Lights would’ve been great in our situation. We didn’t have a red hat either.

Great Idea. I like what you made. I'm going to have to try that for our projects. It beats me having to run out onto the field waiving my arms to get the attention of the ref's. I'm that camera guy on the scaffold.

I dig it. Only thing I would have done differently is put a VMount/ABMount battery plate instead of the RC Battery. I always seem to have extra IDX/AB batteries around to make use of.

Definitely a 2.0 worthy suggestion! Might even be able to fit the battery inside the box to keep it all internal.

This seems like it might be a simple Arduino/raspberry pi project that accepts DMX or tally. In fact… couldn’t you just use a tally system?
