Actually blown away by this review. More information on this camera here than I’ve gotten from a few “real world” reviews and several text reviews and breakdowns. I subbed.
Always nice to hear from a viewer who's found the information I've provided useful and interesting. Thanks for your kind words.
This is the first of your videos that I've ever seen and I have to say, you are one of the most thorough and fair minded reviewers I have ever come across. Instant subscription.
I ordered my a7III about a week ago and I'm very excited to receive it. My a6500 was my very first camera and I could not pass up the chance to upgrade to this for such a relatively low price.
Thanks for the kind words, always appreciated and always good to know I've provided information to help you make a decision.
Just bought one after owning the a6000 for two years. I did take the time to learn each of the features in the menu, but it took forever, and your video explained even MORE about each feature than I learned. Yours is the most comprehensive and best video I've ever seen on this camera. Instantly subscribed. I'm going to watch this again and again. Thank you!
Thank you, so happy to hear that you found my video useful.
I purchased this camera yesterday but have not yet received it. I'm an older person and did not grow up with computers. I've been using digital cameras for some time, but nothing as complex and versatile as this, and watching this video I feel like my head is about to explode! It will likely take me a year to comprehend everything you've covered, and I question if I'll be spending most of my time learning how to use the camera instead of taking pictures. I very much appreciate this video!
Thank you for your kind words, they are appreciated. It's not hard - just make it a point to explore one or two features (like multi-exposure) or settings (like high ISOs) , or to try different types of photos (like time-lapse).
@@MaartenHeilbron Thanks Maarten.
I haven't owned this camera yet buy your review makes me feel easier to get the hang of it when I finally get a chance to switch to Sony. Thank you! One of the best review I've ever watched!
Thanks, I appreciate your kind words. It’s always nice to know that I’ve provided useful information.
Maarten's Fuji review helped me get an X-E3 and I am really happy with it. I am tired of lugging around heavy DSLR gear and needed a good FF mirrorless. ANYTIME I need to consider gear, I read Ken Rockwell and then check Maarten's channel. Ken Rockwell is bombastic, to be sure, but he has a lot of tech data and real-world usage data on his reviews while Maarten is more or less an expert dissection of a camera's capabilities in an easy-to-digest format without screeching rock music or hype that I often see on other channels. I really think a lot of RUclips channels try to get in people's faces to attract sponsors so I appreciate Maarten's candor on the negative points of cameras.
Thanks to his review, I've decided to trade in all my old gear for a nice, light a7riii and a decent zoom lens. Thanks!
That's always the nicest comment - to know I've provided helpful information. Thanks for your very kind words.
Maarten, I learn more per minute of viewing time studying your reviews than from anyone else on RUclips. I watch them all, just for my own education. I have Olympus gear and won't be changing but I get questions all the time, so I have to keep up. Thanks for all of your incredible efforts and attention to detail in these videos.
It is my pleasure, and I'm very grateful to the many viewers, like yourself, who take the time to compliment my work - thank you very much.
Still the most suave, debonair and informative of RUclipsrs. What's not to like?!
WOW! What an extraordinary compliment - I'm more than pleasantly whelmed by your erudition. I might have to have that on my tombstone "The Most Suave, Debonair and Informative of RUclipsrs". One thousand thanks.

@@odiseasg4178 Thanks for your kind emojis.
Maarten is one of the best camera reviewers on RUclips, thank you very much!

This is not just a review, this is a guide and it is incredibly excellent which you don't find it any easier even in the sony websites.
Thx for the hardwork! Love the video
Thanks, I truly appreciate your kind words
wow, this is called a review, you have raised the bar for a camera technical review on youtube. Super technical review
Thanks, your kind words are appreciated. I didn't use the word "detailed" lightly.
Thank you for posting. Learned so much about the camera. I saw many other A7iii reviews and I think this was the most informative.
I do appreciate when viewers tell me that my videos have been helpful, thanks for taking the time to comment.
Dear Mr. Heilbron,
I've come to really enjoy your reviews/comments.
They're concentrating on content without any ads/hidden product placement.
This "content-density" truly set's you apart from many other youtubers. Please keep up the superb work :)
I am not sponsored, so there won't be "ads" or promotions for products - but I did give Manfrotto a fair shout out for lending me the Nitro. I wanted to try it out, so when they offered I took it, but I don't think I can "review" it - there's just not enough to say (that I didn't say in the Best Video for A7 III video). I do wish to thank you for your kind words, I always appreciate when viewers take the time to correspond. I sometimes worry that it's too jammed with stuff - particularly on a camera that's this complex. I tried to keep it under 30 minutes, but failed.
This review, dose help! Got mine three days after the release and was eagerly awaiting your review or should I say deciphering of the menu. I was a bit overwhelmed with the focusing and metering modes, now with your review, those are nicely cleared-up. Keep up the fantastic job, I knew I could rely on you.
Thanks - always nice to see your avatar in the comments. And I very much appreciate your kind words, thank you very much.
Wow only 6 minutes in and this review has already explained more about the camera than any other 15 minute review I've seen. Thanks for all the useful information!
That's very kind, thanks for taking the time to comment.
After reviewing of this model on many RUclips channels, I decided to purchase one along with 24-70 mm GM len. I came from Nikon and this camera is amazing with all the techs.
thanks for the update
When I first started watching this I thought it was going to be another retirement aged 'I've been a photographer all my life' giving his hot take on a camera after about 10 minutes. I was proved so wrong by the end, what a fantastically informative video. Thank you.
Thanks for giving this old guy a chance, glad to hear you enjoyed it.
I know this video is a couple of years old but it is still more than relevant in making a choice for the proper setup that I am currently looking for. Your review covered all that I needed to pull the trigger on this Sony wonder.
Thanks for taking the time to post your kind words, appreciated.
I don't understand how you don't have 500k Subs. Amazing, ultra informative, and dare I say a true and unbiased review. Now all I have to do do is choose what 35mm I want for a walk around.
Thanks for your kind words. In my view, I have exactly the right number of real subscribers, and the number increases at a nicely manageable and organic rate.

I bought it to upgrade from my a6000 and I love your video. You prepare me so there are no surprises.

You’re an amazing teacher. Wow.. your video is absolutely amazing compared to hundreds of video on same camera.
Thanks, always nice to hear from a viewer who has found my videos useful.
I recently shot in HLG3 and even though I don't have any HDR displays, I have to say the colors are very pleasing and the whole editing process was very simple compared to Slog...
Agreed. Although I did find the sky a little artificially blue if I didn't do a little adjustment. What amazes me with HLG (I should do a longer piece on this) is the extreme amount of detail and range that's available in the file, even in the 100Mbits recording. There's another 50-60% that can be recovered from the area that's blown out over 100 on the waveform.
Wow. One of the best camera reviews I’ve seen. Glad I ran into your channel. Mostly just the facts, with just enough interpretation sprinkled in to come away with a really good understanding of what the camera is capable of. Excellent!
That's very kind of you to say, thanks for taking the time to comment.
Hi Maarten. I enjoyed your review. I'm a Nikon shooter with every f/1.4 Nikkor prime lens up to and including the 85mm f/1.4, but I couldn't resist adding a Sony A7 III. I bought mine with the Sony FE 24-70mm F2.8 G Master as my starting lens. Your review helped me come up to speed more quickly with several useful tips and bit of info. I am going to use my A7 III for video shooting, and as an alternative to my Nikon D750 / D780 when I want to have some fun with a different camera. Keep up the great work! I enjoy your channel.
Thanks for the kind words. Glad to hear my videos have been helpful.
Very detailed review, the best of Sony A7 III's review I found on RUclips. Other youtubers just briefly describe the summary but you walk us through the physical look and menu! Subscribed!

You put a lot of effort into this and it is appreciated. Lovely job!
It's always nice to read a kind comment from a viewer who understands the work needed to produce content like this, thanks!
I used my friends version of the SA7iii - there are a few points that I think weren't expressed enough. Which I think are common to many new Alpha cameras. But this is for the SA7iii. [01] The batteries have true use measurement which can be handy for estimating depletion time per mode. [02] The battery door has a small cut out to use the extended battery module. [03] The camera has some sealing but not much. [04] The menu can be easier to an extent by changing to tile view. Otherwise a fantastic review, technical and well executed.
Thanks for adding those points - always happy to have an assist from a viewer. And thanks for the kind words, appreciated.

Thanks for a very comprehensive detailed description of this camera. I m researching to buy so all these hands-on detail are priceless. Great work !!!
That's very kind, thanks for taking the time to share your comments.
While being very informative, for a new A7 III owner a lot of this simply blew right by me. I'm new to digital cameras in general. I was proficient with 35mm "old fashioned " cameras and now find myself in the "noobie" group. Thanks for your review, maybe once I become more familiar with all this new data your video will require a revisiting.
Understood, and thanks for your kind words.
EXTREMELY comprehensive as usual. THANKS!!!
Wow, thanks, I appreciate the kind words.
Ah-Mazing Review!! Sony ought to compensate you for this. I've watched tens of amateur reviews that take this complex product and make it sound as if everything is AWESOME and clearly as you said it mostly is but not entirely. You Sir with your great eloquence need to be commended for this as you've helped me and others in preparing for or against this camera. Thank you very much!!

The menu of this complex camera is so exhaustive, it felt like reading a book "a7iii for dummies".
Planning to buy one with 24-70 mm... let's see.
I appreciate your very kind words, thanks for commenting.
An excellent review that was invaluable in helping me set up my new A7iii. It saved a huge amount of time fiddling with those extensive menus. Thanks Maarten.
I'm always pleased to read the kind words of a viewer who's found my content useful and helpful. Thanks for taking the time to comment.
Great Review, Glad to hear face party is back. I like your deep dive into the menus to understand what ech item can be used for. Also great Sony brought memory recall on a custom button to some capacity in. I wish to have this to reset to point and shoot after a creative shot.
Would love to see this on my 6500, but I don't have hopes as software updates rarely bring in new features or menu adjustments
Thanks for your kind words. That comment ended up over a screen that said "face priority" - on the previous screen it's ridiculously shortened to "face prty", which is the source of the attempted humour. The ability to put a selection of preset settings (with aperture and shutter speed) on a button is way better than a memory position - I just really love that very hand feature. The nice thing is that the setting is only held while the button is down - it would be nice to have this as a toggle, but I understand the complications that introduces. And I completly agree - I wish they would add that, seems like it would be easy to do. But of course, I'd hope for a complete revamp of the menu - ruclips.net/video/pPSIaIn1mys/видео.html
Thanks Maarten, "I'm coming late to the dance with Sony" been shooting Canon since Digital really took off. Have wanted to down size to mirrorless and Sony has always been on the radar but have waited for Canon to see if they could compete. I have a Canon crop Frame mirrorless which is not bad but I've always preferred shooting with full frame cameras. Canon now has the R series but it is averaging about $400 dollars more than the A7III. After finally finding and watching your review of the A7III there is no doubt about which camera I should pick up. Great video with a lot of great information. Now all I have to do is find the right adapter for all my Canon glass. Thanks Again for all the work you did for this review.
Always nice to hear from a viewer who understands and appreciates the work involved. Thank you.
Wow the most detailed review I seen about this camera. Great job man.

Just stumbled upon your channel and I love the detailed and hands-on reviews. Really nice to see through the viewfinder and get a feel for the camera without actually touching it. It's actually quite refreshing to see such a down to earth and calm presentation here on youtube. Only downside is, I want an a7 III now ...
It's always a pleasure to know that my content is useful and appreicated. Sorry about the GAS effect.
Maarten Heilbron how would you compare the AF(C) in the a7 iii and D500? And will you make a review of the new Canon 90d?
@@lumolde I will review the Canon 90D as soon as the loaner arrives from Canon Canada. Are you thinking for video? I find the recent firmware upgrades to the Sony to have been a marked improvement for video, for stills, I would find them similar.
@@MaartenHeilbron Nice, looking forward to it! Was thinking about stills, my Pentax doesn't really keep up with birds and wildlife when it comes to AF, so I am on the lookout for something new. The "train tracking" in the a7 iii review was pretty impressive!
@@lumolde In spite of the hype associated with the dual pixel af (in my mind it's just Canon branding for phase detect, as that's essentially how it works) I feel that Sony is the clear leader in focus systems.
Love your reviews, they are so detailed and extremely well made. Truly appreciate that. A minor correction: Face Detect is available in 4K, just not when you have an external monitor or WiFi connected. I suppose it does not have the processing power to do Face Detect when outputting to another device.
Thank you, I do appreciate when a viewer recognizes the work that's involved in these projects. I'm sorry I didn't figure that out during the review. But of course, it doesn't have the processing power to detect my face under any circumstances. The camera is full of a bizarre set of documented and undocumented conflicts - like proxy recording eliminating the HDMI feed.
You are excellent in your reviews...very thorough!
It's nice to have my viewers see my intention - thanks for the kind words.
Gosh your reviews are really detailed. You earned a sub, keep up the good work 👍🏻

It was a pleasure to read your kind words, thanks!
Great job, Maarten - an invaluable resource. I have a lot to learn, having just upgraded from the a7ii!
That’s very kind of you to say, thanks!
Hi Maarten. I have followed your in-depth review on the sony A7III and many others with great interest. I currently shoot using a Fujifilm X-T2 & recently X-H1. I have quite an extensive range of Fujinon lenses 16mm F1.2, 18-55mm F2.8, 35mm f2.8, 23mm f2.8 and the 50-140mm F2.8. I shoot landscapes mostly and on special occasions for our church events - the worship, the pastor's delivering the sermon. I enjoyed taking candid shots of the pastors those occasions and the 50-140mm f2.8 has performed excellently! Of late, I have been shooting at a floorball league for our church team. Whilst the X-T2 and recently X-H1 (despite its quirky firmware) has served my needs well, I am contemplating trading-in my X-T2 for the A7III. I am cognizance of the huge outlay I would have to spend on lenses too, etc. Any advice on this?
Thanks for your kind words. I understand your dilemma, as I'm having the same thoughts - there's a lot to like about the A7 III. However, I keep asking myself, what is it that bothers me about the X-T2 that I'm hoping the A7 III will fix - and I have not come away with a satisfactory answer. While I'd clearly love to own one, I'm just not sure spending that amount will actually make much of an improvement - other than the EYE AF button on the lens ...
Hi Maarten, your last sentence says it all for me. Besides the EYE AF that I deemed is superior to the X-H1 & X-T2 based on RUclips reviews, I could not think of anything more besides it being a full frame mirrorless camera that I felt may be useful for low light photography during my church events.
Right! A faster lens might be the improvement you need for church. On the other hand, lighting ...
You've covered a lot there. Thanks! Some are missing, but I suppose it's because the camera is really so complex and so many options are there.
One thing you failed to show is the ClearImage Zoom. You have to try it. In photo mode, you get a 2x magnification. So, a 50mm f1.8 lens becomes a 100mm in FOV! In video mode, you only get 1.5x magnification or equiv to 75mm FOV. But the magic is not in the magnification. What is surprising is that this ClearImage zoom can really be so clear and the resolution is so high! You can still read the letters in small prints when I tested it shooting a spray bottle cleaner.
You do lose the pinpoint AF, and the camera AF's in its own accord, so maybe you won't see the exact area it chose. But I hardly had a bad shot. I suppose what you focused on prior to going over the std zoom is where it will zoom. I programmed that option vic Fn-3, but later on decided to move it to the center button on the dial. I press that and even my canon lens + MB4 adapter gets this clearimage zoom! I just turn the dial to pick the zoom range (1.1x, 1.2x, 1.3x...2.0x). Unfortunately, you don't have a smooth zooming action. You have this fixed points to pick, so you have hard stops for the magnification. FYI, this option is not available with PZ lenses like the 18-105 f4 OSS. You get that clearimage zoom by turning the zoom ring or the rocker zoom switch on the lens.
you should try it. That clear image zoom is really impressive - both in photo and video.
Added FYI - I tested the A7-3 in video 4k, and there is no overheating. Ambient temp was 30 deg and ended at 32 deg later. The camera back was just slightly warm. No overheating. Not even the warning. I recorded 4 x 30min (as it stops at 29:59) and I still had 37% left on the battery. I tried it another time with 32 deg ambient and I think I reached 2:25 with 13% remaining. No overheating sign or shutdowns. So, the battery issue should be laid to rest.
I don't know in your case, but in our country, you charge the battery in camera via USB. Both micro usb and usb-c cna charge, but no one is faster than the other. They supplied us with a usb cable and a small 1.5A charger where you plug and attach the usb cable. The external charger where you can remove the battery from the camera is separately bought and costs U$100! It is reported to charge faster. The usb charger it comes with charged my nearly depleted fz100 3+ hours. In real world situations, one probably will charge it at 25-30% remaiining, so charging time is less. I got a free 2nd battery from Sony as part of their promo, so I don't think I will have a problem with a whole day's shooting, even with video.
Thanks, I appreciate the kind words. Yes, I'm well aware that my title is hyperbolic. I did mention and demo the ClearImage zoom in my Best Video Settings video for the A7 III. I think that, particularly for video, it's a very usable feature with little or no compromise to quality, even in 4K. I wish I'd had the time to do a more complete set of video quality comparison tests before I had to return the camera.
One of the features I overlooked is the completely hidden Bright Monitoring. You find it as a custom button option, and it can be handy when shooting in the dark. Although I did highlight EyeAF, that's really the land of unexplored settings.
Not to fawn on you, but I do like your reviews. Comprehensive as best as possible, and it covers most users concern. And you get to the point. No round-about preambles or sideshows. Though humor and some minor side words spice it up so it won't be a litany of specs or overly technical. I like you and Gordan Laing, though his style is a bit different though still useful in his style with his friend Doug. His is more of the commentary and comparison type.
Many will ignore that clear image zoom because it is a software fix. But that thing has come a long way. It is really hard to know if one shows a picture of that if it is a digital software uprezzing or not. It is so good! I checked the exif and it registers as 24mp! I wonder how they did that?
The advantage is that I can make my tamron 17-35 f2.8-4 to a 34-70 f2.8-4.0! Once I get a tamron 28-75 f2.8, that is a 56-150 f2.8 lens! Amazing! :)
Again, very kind words, thanks. Yes, that's an issue that's puzzled me as well ... I imagine there's some interpolation going on - although that would not be necessary for video.
Great review of the A73 Maarten , your effort is much appreciated ,
thank you .

Maarten Heilbron Very much useful. Everytime I watch this and other about video settings, I learn something new. Thanks for your efforts.
It's always my pleasure - and always great to know I'm helping.
Another excellent, incredibly thorough review. Thanks again Maarten.
Thanks for taking the time to comment, I appreciate the kind words.
Your review is like watching PBS, its amazingly good
Thank you, that's very kind of you to say.
Thanks for a great review 👍 I should have the 24-105 for my A7iii next week as more stock is coming. The lens seems great for many types of photography subjects and i can't wait to replace my kit lens.
thanks for your kind words, always appreciated.
Incredible review. I felt like I was watching a good PBS informational channel. Take that as a compliment. :-) I plan on getting the Sony A7iii.
I did take that as a compliment - thanks very much, I appreciate your kind words.
Thank you Maarten. One day I have to meet up with you for photoshoot in Toronto. Love your channel.
Sounds like a nice idea - thanks for the kind words.
Civil comments only?? Well, forget it then. Looks like a monumental camera achievement. Unless Canon and Nikon bring out comparable mirrorless cameras fairly soon I think they might be in deep trouble. The only thing I still don't like about Sony video is the greens. Great review as always. You do a staggering amount of work on each review.
I'm always impressed when viewers watch all the way to my closing, and can still post civil remarks - thanks! Also always nice to see your smiling avatar and to read your kind words. Greens huh?
Peter, Sony and Nikon are too far behind in terms of glass for their mirrorless. So, nothing they can do "fairly soon", in my opinion. I moved from Nikon D7100 to Sony A7 III and the difference is huge. Sony is something out of this world (though lenses are expensive, no doubt).
Although I do agree with the advanced state of Sony's firmware and functionality, what if Canon and Nikon develop full frame mirrorless models that can use existing lenses with existing mounts?
Maarten, I am pretty sure adapters would be offered but the size of the camera with adapted lenses would be an issue for some people.
There is also a price consideration. I chose A7 III because it is really the best body money can buy today, in my opinion. I added Sony 85mm f1.8 for portraits and now waiting for Tamron 28-75 f2.8 for general use. This is a quite budget-friendly combination. If Nikon/Canon would not handicap their mirrorless as Sony did, I think, they have a good chance to be competitive.
Another thing is nobody really knows when Nikon/Canon will release their mirrorless. I personally decided not to wait. At this rate of Sony's innovation, after Nikon/Canon release their cameras, new Sony bodies would be on the horizon.
I was thinking (as long as anything is possible) that creating cameras that don't require an adapter would be a very popular solution. I don't understand - how is Sony's handicapped?
Great review! I'm thinking about the A7III in 2021 as my first full frame camera, looks like a good all rounder. a;so bookmarked this video too so I can come & re watch when I get my A7III :-)
Thanks for your kind words, appreciated!!
Thanks Maartin. Those left side port doors are like those from a cheap toy. No matter how good the specs it is meaningless if the camera dies the moment it becomes wet. Same with the price. $2000 is not a bargain if the camera lasts only a few years. Worth pointing out too the price here in Europe is the equivalent of $2800. An outrageous hike by Sony.
Always my pleasure, and I agree on all three points.
Hello. Really like the objective tone in all of your reviews.
Currently on the fence of moving in to Sony(coming from, but not heavily invested in the Canon system) and can afford only one of these options:
- a7ii + 24GM
- a7iii + 28mm f2
Would also love to hear your thoughts for other options I may consider.
Thanks in advance!
Thanks, your kind words are appreciated. I'd take any combination that included a GM lens.
@@MaartenHeilbron Thanks!
Excellent review. Keep up the great work!
I appreciate the kind words, thanks for commenting.
Very comprehensive and excellent review and tutorial. Worth watching many times over.
A pleasure to read your kind words, thank for taking the time, appreciated.
Amazing review Maarten. You have got yourself a new subscriber :) I'm currently using a Nikon D5300 mostly for Culinary Arts, Astrophotography and also some daily street and portrait photography. I'm quite interested in A7 III thus I've been watching lots of reviews lately.
Thanks for your kind words and your subscription.
Meter does not disappear while changing ISO if you set your ISO to the scroll wheel on the back
Thanks for the tip.
Maarten Love your reviews. Always thorough. Bought my RX10 partly on the the strength of your video. I note you said you predominately shoot with the A7 iii in AF-S mode. One of things that’s holding me back at the moment is the screen jitters I perceive viewing the EVF when in AF-C mode when half pressed. I see a lot of moire too. AF-S looks fine. I would be interested to hear your thoughts.
Thank you, always a pleasure to read kind comment. Is the Live View Display effect on or off? Is Finder Frame Rate at Standard or High?
Such detailed and thorough review, as usual. Well done.
Always nice to see your avatar pop up in the comments - as always, I'm very appreciative of your kind words.
While I do love my pair of Sony APSC cameras, A6400 and A6500, the major drawback for me is the 1/4000 second shutter limitation. Sure, 1/4000 will stop just about anything but, 1/8000 is often very handy when I want to use a f/1.8 or faster lens wide open outside in daylight. My only worry is whether my 24-70mm f/4 Vario-Tessar lens is sharp enough for the A7iii sensor...
Have you thought about using an ND filter to cut the light? Then you won't need quite as fast a shutter speed.
The sore point for videographers using an external display with or without a recorder is that after connecting the external display to the HDMI socket, the camera automatically disables AF facial recognition . The same absurd thing happens when you try to connect an axternal screen to Sony camcorders such as Sony FDR AX-700 or FDR AX-100.
That is an odd situation, and hard to understand why it's disabled.
Great review. I bought this camera. It's simply great!
Thanks for your kind words.
@@MaartenHeilbron Deserved. Greetings from Italy :)
Another rather pleasant review, however I tried the exact same 24-105 f/4 lens on A7 3 & found it to be as far as I would like to go with the Sony system, Nikon & Canon have far better ergonomics for such a lens & larger ie 70-200 & 100-400 & so on, the new Tamron 28-75 f/2.8 at the price of 28mm should be better suited to A7 3 . The Panasonic G9 & system is much more friendly & for me represents an extension of logic the Sony does. I like the improvements in body Sony has made & features . However I still prefer my D850 & XT2, definitely the G9 as numero 3 ,maybe Sony A7 IV?
Thanks, I appreciate the kind words. And your interesting thoughts and observations.
Can't wait to get mine and fill the card and empty the battery, as you recommend. Ive followed the release of this camera and decided to invest in Sonys in the future. I need two cameras for my current work so I'll be selling off some gear to finance it.
But more than just being awed by the specs and massive publicity Sony provided, I also see the Sony's way to follow up, listen, retain some good stuff from the past ( A5100 shooter here) and give us functions that Canon or Nikon only keep for the prime models that cost prime as well. The A7III is a bargain.
Thank you kindly for your great reviews (all of them).
As soon as I get the camera I'll replay your video and do a step by step foolaround. Won't look into the manual until I'm done.
Thanks, a pleasure to read your kind words. I agree, considering what's in this camera, it's a bargain.
Hi, Maarten. Great review as always. If I may throw in my 2 pennies, I think people might get even more out of your reviews if there was a greater focus on image quality and examples thereof over menu critique. Keep up the thorough work :)
Throw in as many as you need - and thanks for the kind words. While I agree that I don't spend much time on image quality, I do provide samples on flickr to allow viewers to make their own judgements. I'm not a pixel peeper, nor do I have the equipment to do what others like dpreview do so well with repeatable, comparable test setups. Although I do my best to cover a lot of ground, I also realize I can't be all things to all people, and do recommend that you make a judgement about any camera after reviewing several sources. Sorry, but thanks.
Thanks! That was a great and short review!
Always nice to hear from a viewer who appreciates my work.
Thank you so much for succinctly explaining the limitations of the touch screen. I could not for the life of me figure out why when I tapped to focus it DIDN'T ACTUALLY FOCUS. And it didn't make sense why I couldn't tap selections for the menu. Now it all does - because it isn't supposed to do that.
It's always nice to know that I've provided useful information to my viewers - thanks for the kind words.
A JerkStopper? What new sorcery is this?
I hope they make one for use with certain personalities too!
Thank you for the video. I do think the word you used - "overwhelming" - is apt for this camera as a whole. What a plethora of features! Too many for me to enjoy it, I suspect.
Hehe, thanks for the kind words. You'll find them here: bhpho.to/2Bpp9L7. How do you determine it's too many?
Maarten Heilbron Thank you, Maarten.
Perhaps I wasn't concentrating, but despite your usual excellent explanation I got a little lost somewhere in the video settings detail. It just seemed to me because of this and the many other features that there are really too many and would detract from my use.
The Fuji cameras you have reviewed on the other hand seem much more straightforward.
Maybe it is a complexity of menu problem as you alluded to?
Always my pleasure ... just waiting for the X-H1 firmware update, that will provide a true comparison, as it too has a high level of feature complexity.
