    I got this camera at a super-deep discount just last week and have taken 300+ photos with it and I love it!
    It's got no stabilization or weather sealing, but my other Sony lenses do and none of the cameras I grew up with had either. It's small, light, runs off of USB power (unlike their recent cameras), takes good 24P 4K and has excellent images. I carry my a7r3 and this so when I don't want to lug around a heavy camera, I can leave the a7r3 at home and take a small bag with this and a 35mm f2.8 pancake lens.
    It's still a great deal and I love the excellent autofocus!

    I bought this camera as a starter in Sony line and so far the only fallback is the picture profile since I do videos. I guess I have to stick to my ability to color correct and grade (even if the video's flat) for that. Hi Maarten! Great review as always
    Got a quick question for you - Can you help choose among the Sony A6000, Nikon D5600 and the Canon 200D ii (250D, SL3)
    The main requirement is photography - mainly landscapes and portraits for Instagram. Although I would be using it for casual videos too some times. Lens cost could be concern but for now I think I would fine with just the 50mm prime lens. I am inclined towards the mirrorless because of form factor.

    • @MaartenHeilbron
      @MaartenHeilbron  4 года назад +1

      If that's how you're inclined - take the A6000, but consider that the A6100 is a much newer and more capable model with spectacular autofocus capability.

    Hi Maarten¡¡,What a well explained video you've made. Just an advice, the sensor of my 4-year beloved a6000 was accidentally burnt by a laser beam, so I am looking for a new camera. I mainly shoot stills photos. Is the a6100 the straightforward replacement of the a6000? or maybe I should consider the a6400. Is there any notable difference in image quality among them? Thank you¡¡¡

    • @MaartenHeilbron
      @MaartenHeilbron  4 года назад +1

      Thanks for your kind words. Image quality is the same. I'd take the A6100, which is a good replacement. The A6400 has a few more features (as mentioned in the video) but unless you will miss the picture profiles for video, they're not really material.

      I don't know which one is best for you. But, in my estimation they are roughly equivalent in quality. If there is no feature that one offers that missing from the other (and you need) then use the wallet/hand/heart guide. Make sure it fits your wallet and your hand, and then use your brand or design preference to choose.

    Thank you, interesting and informative as usual. I'm pleased with my purchase of the A6100. It has provided the upgrades, over my NEX5, important to me. The improved sensor and processor, however, have highlighted weakness in the 18-55 OSS kit lens sold with the NEX5. Guess I'll be looking for a new general purpose lens 😏. Still not completely sold on replacing my Canon dslrs with Sony, but I do feel better about Sony's focus on the future than that of Canon at this point. Thank you again.

      Good question. As Sony transitioned from APS-C to full frame, they also transitioned their lenses. That leaves very few inexpensive quality APS-C choices. I don't have a good sense of the whole market of third party lenses, but that's where I'd look for bargains. Personally, I own the 16-70, which is not great, and isn't particularly inexpensive either.

    Another excellent video. The Sony menu system, whilst not incomprehensible, is still not a walk in the park.
    Simply setting up IAF and choosing the preferred focus tracking is almost impossible to follow relying solely on the Sony manual.
    I simply do not understand why seemingly all camera manufacturers have a system to transfer images to mobile phones- invariably biased in favour of IPhones- I will never purchase an Apple 🍎 phone- mainly due to the,now, savagely high prices and Apples " closed phone" factory engineering. Yes, perfectly understand that I may be one of the few image takes that don't own an IPhone.
    However, my clear preference would be for all camera manufacturers to have inbuilt- why not?, permitting the easy wifi/ Bluetooth transfer of images to my computer.
    Have yet to see any commentary on this issue.
    Seems far, far easier to just transfer images to a computer which obviously has far more storage and may be used to send images and, when I purchase post software, to lightly edit images.
    Seems such a basic concept that I must be missing something staring me right before my eyes.
    Simply transferring directly from camera to computer, rather obviously, would cut out one time consuming step.
    Would appreciate your thoughts in due course.
