So I’ve actually looked into modding, and _currently_ there’s no way to mod the landlord fight, only support for item and symbol modding. However, v1.0 is dropping mid-January, so updated AI might be in the Landlord’s future
Do you know if the ai's "adds 1 dot/hex of destruction" is made to specifically add one of those 2 symbols or if it looks at a hidden category which currently only has those symbols, but could be expanded? I am grasping at straws really, but if it's a hidden category, we could at least mod some worse symbols in there
IIRC (info from the Olexa dev interview) the way the boss fight works is that it selects an effect to apply and then tries to select a symbol from your deck that the effect works on. If it cannot it just applies it to a random symbol. So if you have a really thin deck with not many different symbols it can miss frequently. Also some fine prints are fixed (hex of destruction, guillotine) so they appear every time. Currently mods cannot effect the boss fight but hopefully sometime post 1.0 they'll at least be able to add new fine prints for their symbols.
I'd like to see the landlord add unique symbols that affect builds. Like the pirate would have an admiral to counter it. Who removes/arrests the pirate when adjacent. Or Mrs Fruit grandchild who distracts her
That could literally lose you the game I think there’s a good reason that isn’t in the game. It’s not fun to center a run around a specific thing for it to be completely nullified with you being unable to do anything about it
I definitely think that the landlord boss battle AI has gotten smarter. I've lost the last two boss battles due to the boss targeting the build I would have
The Landlord is definitely becoming sentient. I had the most amazing dice run only for him to cripple the living bejeesus out of it by making my dice give negative coins.
Hearing Tyler say that the Battles days were cursed was surprising, those battles videos were how I found the channel, and they were fun. I understand if Tyler feels different about it now, but ig I'm surprised because there never really was a big update video on it or anything, not that he's obligated to make one.
Modding can’t affect the boss fight right now, but Luck be a Landlord saves are very easy to edit, and if you go into the save file, you can change the Max HP of the landlord and the “Fine Print Threshold” (the amount of damage between each fine print) if you want to make the fight harder. In general, save editing is probably the best way to make the game harder; it would be possible to make a symbol or item that deliberately makes the game harder (such as an anti-Pool Ball item that takes 1 coin per spin, or a Dud that doesn’t destroy itself), and then add it into your save manually by editing the save file. There isn’t a good way for modding to make the game harder on its own right now, since all it can do is add symbols and items. If you want to make the game harder, the best thing to do is make a symbol or item with a rarity of none (so it’ll never show up as an actual option) that makes the game harder, then manually put it in your save file… or, if you don’t want to go to the trouble of making such a symbol or item, changing the landlord’s Max HP or fine print threshold is an easy way to make it harder. In particular, I’ve used save editing to sort of make my own gamemode: a mode where you play on Floor 1, but the Landlord has a max HP of 4277 (the sum of all 12 rent payments on Floor 1) and the fight starts right from the beginning (via setting doing_boss_fight to true after the first spin and then setting your coins back to 1 and the rent timer back to 5; it has to be after the first spin because the game won’t continue a save file with 0 spins, but you can edit the save file so the spin number is 1 but your coin value, symbols, rent payment, etc. are as if you never spun), so the fine print builds up throughout the entire game. The only caveat to this is that you have to go back to the save to edit the rent_values after every rent payment because boss fight rent values by default use (500x - 5500) coins in 10 spins no matter what, resulting in negative rents if you don’t edit them to be what they’re supposed to be. I actually find this gamemode a little easier than Floor 20 on average, but it does result in different strategies from the normal game since there are certain strategies that the Landlord is more likely to shoot down… and if you want it to be harder, do it on a higher floor (and remember to increase the Landlord’s HP if playing on a floor where a rent payment costs 25 coins more; the idea is that his amount of HP is equal to the sum of the first 12 rent payments)
I know I've seen the fine print that prevents coins from being destroyed or removed fail with King Midas. I think if Midas adds a coin next to a pirate, it can still be destroyed in that turn.
The landlord Fine Print semi-targets builds in that it has some build-independent modifiers, some that specifically target things you have, but there's also a random factor that introduces fine print for things outside of your build. That last one started as a bug, but the dev left it in because he found it was more fun this way.
An idea for an interesting boss battle: Additional to the modifiers, he has a mecha. This makes him not only tankier, but it also allows him to randomly (certain %) either hit a 2x2 square of your field or firing a 1x4 laser down a colomn, destroying those symbols (either leaving behind empties or X's)
I cant believe i forgot you used to play bloons, because that was the reason i started watching your channel. But i came for the bloons, stayed for the puzzle games.
I have to suggest the workshop mod made my the developer themselves, "Exhausted Developer" a very rare item that gives 1 coin for every hotfix the game has received since the last content update The backstory is that the update that added in workshop support needed a LOT of hotfixes, to the number of 40+, and so the dev made this as a tongue-in-cheek reference to it while also being a demonstration on how mods work While technically not balanced, it very much fits the whole style of the game, and is literally founded in the development of the game
The dev nerfed endless so no rent is needed, so it feels pointless. I guess it's to stop people playing for hours, but I hate it. Why remove optional challenge from a game? Are most players so dumb they feel threatened by other people using strategy on an optional game mode they never actually play? To be fair, people probably like a sandbox mode, but why not make the rent payment in endless optional. It just doesn't make sense to me to limit game modes.
I feel like if someone does make a mod so landlord targets more specifically, it could also target synergies to prevent it from being too harsh. Like on a beast master build it could prevent you from getting magpies? I don’t know it’s still probably too many choices since you may not care for them anyway, but if it’s only stuff in your inventory I’m scared it’ll just make your stuff give 50 less coins.
hmm... ideas for a harder boss: At start of fight, adds 10 Xs (to increase brick chance). -New conditions will always target 1 symbol not currently present (to hamper attempts to pivot strategy), 1 symbol currently present, and 1 "meta" condition (like no items or increase price of rerolls/removals), in that order (if there are less conditions added at a time, the next payment will start from the beginning, not where it was left off.) Any conditions after the initial 3 is completely random. -"streak" option that adds 1 more X to the initial start of fight for each consecutive win until you eventually loose, maybe even with the choice to pick exactly how many to add, up to the limit you have encountered naturally. -Add the ability for the landlord to REMOVE your symbols, if not a guaranteed one every payment. In the most extreme cases, removing EVERY copy of a symbol or symbol synergy set. (bypassing any "cant be removed" previously established in the fight). -Adding health to the boss, potentially based off streak or excess cash before the fight. Maybe based off a hidden "symbol weight" table? (simplest form, common has a weight of 1 adding x0 health per symbol in deck, uncommon with a weight of 10 adding x00 health, rare adding x000 health, etc. More complex form is each individual symbol has its own weight based off its scaling potential, and maybe even the counters it has.) -"NG+ challenge": deck is completely wiped (minus any Xs), with multiple symbol picks per spin (also making any new conditions added part of the deckbuilding strategy) upon the start of the boss fight. You maintain any excess cash you had as a bumper, but it will run out quickly if you cant build up your reels quickly. The "improvements" are not mutually exclusive, but the NG+ challenge might be a bit too unique to really validate stacking any other changes to the list.
I think a fun way that mods could affect the final landlord boss would actually be to affect the money you gain from spins. Make it so you only make like half while the boss is active, so that the rent cycles actually feel like they're a challenge to achieve. Other ways could be stuff like adding negative modifiers to some rows or columns, or having the fine print creating anti-synergies based on symbols you currently have at random.
I feel like the landlord has a very limited number of fine print options at this stage. Maybe more will be added after the game release. A lot of them seem to be strangely targeting Pirate-Coin builds (maybe because this build is like one of the most OP in the game, there's no other symbol that can produce "edible" symbols as consistently as King Midas). And also the dice fine print shows up in pretty much every landlord battle. I'm glad I almost never go for the dice.
The landlord partially targets your build, I think it goes for a specific category of symbols. Most of the time it’s a breeze but occasionally it’s difficult.
A recent challenge I’ve done, that made it very difficult was, you can only add symbols. You are not allowed to use or add reroll/removal capsules. You cannot add hex of destruction or hex of emptiness (as they are corny ways to skip or remove items) unless you have holy water. Took me about 3 days to get a good run. Was very difficult, but fun to try and figure out. Edit: also on floor 20
Would be neat if the landlord had a 75% chance to hit a randomly picked symbol or item on your deck, and a 25% chance to add a random hex or maybe add a thief or general Zaroff depending on how many people is on your board, or if you have any bounty hunters.
I can definitely see a way that they could turn the idea of the boss fight into a way to do pvp... There would certainly have to be some tweaks to make everything work, but it probably wouldn't take all that much to make a somewhat interesting VS mode
Yeah I think the boss would be more interesting if, in addition to targeting symbols/items that you have (at the very least and maybe on the higher floors target those that are giving you the most coins), there were a way to disable some of the fine print with a limited resource - this would give you decisions to make about whether to counter certain print or save your counters for something more brutal later which would make the fights less of a "Hold W and hope the build is strong enough" affair. Perhaps you'd get counters from counter capsules throughout the run, so you have to weigh the benefit of having a counter prepared for the boss with the opportunity cost of taking a capsule that takes a bit of gold!
If you're looking for mods I would recommend Daniel's Random Stuff. The fact that the pack adds random symbols aimed at different archetypes makes it "balanced" imo. It impresses me how an uncommon is more rare than, ya know a rare and also a very rare thinking about it there's no guarantee for uncommons which might be why so maybe ninja should be a common so the builds could work or a buffed rare
suits is pretty powerful, you can have 30 plus symbols and still make bank
Wake up Honey, new Aliensrock video dropped
It's not like he never posts
He posts daily
@@anorbinspace51 Yea, but he posts at nearly midnight for me man
I know you said if you stopped playing potionomics it would be because of low views, but it's really unfortunate to see that series go. I was thoroughly enjoying it
If Tyler really likes playing this game, I'd totally watch a modded playthrough with difficulty modifiers.
Midnight uploads
Since you’ve made a few of mine sweeper videos recently, I think you would like cavern sweeper. It’s a pretty fun spin on the genre
Still waiting for the suits build, Tyler has been teasing it for a while.
9:49 those would URN a ton 😂😂😂😂😂😂
imo suits are the most consistently good build in the game
Wow intense
The other day I had an interesting build with hex of destruction + a bunch of producers, like oyster, etc. Did not succeed, though.
Hey Tyler, I've got about 10 years of programming experience and about 2 years of modding experience. If you ever want a very specific mod I would be happy to help, since I've been enjoying your content for many years now.
This game is just tylers excuse for his gambling addiction
Woo new Tyler vid!
Early morning Tyler video
Nice! And tiring
I'm learning how to mod the game. I may have to theory craft if I could make it more challenging somehow 🤔
I mean the thing I don't understand is why the dev limited the maximum amount of landlord levels you could have. Just keep levelling up that landlord until I can't handle it anymore.
Nice job editor.
Seems like landlord targets coins early on everytime. At least that is what i noticed.
"Tip, billionaires don't have souls"
The only reasonable explanation is that Tyler had a luck mod for this run after downplaying mods at the start
