    I am 52 years old. I was so sick of the same music I have been listening to for the past 30 or so years. When I hear stuff like this. I get excited! !! Shorty and the boys are incredible! I can't wait to see them live! A huge thank you for making music like this!!

    Gotta say, it took me a while to get accustomed to this modern style of funk-jazz cross, but I've really come to start digging it. Trombone Shorty's unique tone on trombone is so great! I love this so much.

    I just broke through the barrier of jazz trombone and I'm excelling fast. I want to play like two people. Trombone Shorty and Fred Wesley. I absolutely love playing the trombone!

    I'm a music teacher and I can't tell you how much Shorty makes kids wanna pick up the trombone ton play in band. When a kid says he wants to play 'bone before sax or trumpet, I say "good choice"

He said next time he performs around my area, to come and bring my trombone so we could jam. Then he said "Let me show you some things cause that's how we do it down in New Orleans." I will NEVER forget that.

    I love this guy. I mean, if you talk to most professional brass players, they'd say puffing your cheeks out is "bad embouchure", but look at this guy! Obviously many people like his sound. Very successful musician. I think he's a testament to how everyone has a unique facial structure, and what may work for one may not necessarily work for another.

    • @DontStealMyBacon
      @DontStealMyBacon 10 лет назад +17

      He is actually really good at circular breathing. When he puffs his cheeks, he is not just breaking embouchure rules, he is also storing extra air to take breaths less often.

    Does anyone have any thoughts on Shorty's tone? I personally enjoy listening to him but I have a lot of friends that trash that sound because it is not the standard velvety tone that most bone players develop. I enjoy it and I think Troy "Shorty" is great every time he rips it. You?

      There really isn't a certain way your tone should sound unless you're in an orchestra is what I think. In genres of music like this, that raspy tone fits in and shapes the song which gives a different feeling than other songs.

      @sethfranklin817 10 лет назад

      Well said Sean, I'm a trumpet player and I love brass instruments that's the only reason I would ever think about his embouchure more than just the look

    • @madzis777
      @madzis777 10 лет назад

      As a trombone player myself i can say that to learn to play a trombone is fairly easily, you just need good muscle memory and strong lungs for breathing. To master a trombone and play it like this guy does it takes some serious ammount of work hours and tallent.
      I can not compare it to guitar because i have not played guitar myself.

    • @iXTMAstro
      @iXTMAstro 10 лет назад +1

      Madars Svikis muscle memory? no sir. if you are saying that in terms of playing different partials then I dont like that. I sing every note I play and after a while its drilled into your brain the different pitches. Much less likely to miss a note rather than trying to remember which partial is where

    • @MrOddChocolate
      @MrOddChocolate 10 лет назад +3

      iXTMAstro The muscle memory was referring to your arm muscles knowing exactly where to go to hit each position. And each partial slightly alters how far in/out each position is. There's a lot more to the trombone than most people think. ;)

    Trombone Shorty is coming to Missoula, Montana, to play The Wilma on Sept. 10! Gadzooks! I already purchased my seat -- front row in the balcony. More than likely I'll be down there with the standing room crowd most of the night. A few months ago Con Brio and Galatcic burned down the house. Whew! What a night that was!!

    I COMPLETELY AGREE WITH THE TOP TWO COMMENTS.
    I love his trombone playing and the feel of his band's music

    This is my favorite type of music to play on trombone. Forget classical and all that. This is what I like to play.
