Hi all, just incase anyone has the issue, there seems to be a bug at the moment where the new rig won't show after pressing generate rig. I find deleting the Meta rig at this point makes it show up (You can then undo the delete to keep the meta rig). Hopefully this gets fixed soon.
I have a question tho, if I create a model that has eyes, nose, mouth and brows (similar to the one in your thumbnail) do i still have to remove the complex bones in the face? I want that model to be rigged so I could animate it and be able to make expressions out of it (I am very new here! :D)
you have to scale it or else the rig wont apply. But i do have a question because when i finished with the rig i tested it out and the chracter did not move with it only the rig moved. Please help
I feared character making, but your tutorials took me to track and I am now making 3d animated short stories with the characters I made with help of your tutorials. Thanks a lot ❤️❤️
Tips to consider if you're rigging for the first time: 01. if rig is not compatible with your character size, decrease character size, do not increase rig size 02. before making any changes to your character make a backup, put everything in a collection and turn it off from viewport and render 03. be sure to apply the scale on all objects that make up your character 04. make sure you apply all modifiers to the character (if you have a lot of modifiers just select all of them and go to object > convert > mesh, it gonna apply everything automatically) 05. make sure there is no inverted normal seriously i wasted 3 hours with these problems
Hey there, thanks for the comment and tips for the community :D I'm not sure I agree with all of these but everyone's characters and experience is a little different, so hopefully your tips help others
Oh my God-THANK YOU!!! I literally JUST finished your Stylised Character Modelling Tutorial (after weeks of straight procrastination) and I was stressing about how to rig and pose it when I came back to your channel and found you uploaded this! Miracles DO exist and happen!!! 😭💖😂🤣
If anyone mesh is disappearing when joining the bones to the character, you need to apply all mirror modifiers and if you used bezier curve, you need to convert it to a mesh firstly by selecting it then going to object>convert>mesh i hope that helps someone 😊
Hey can you make a TT how to model a cartoon pug and rig it pretty pls the cartoon pig image you can see it on my RUclips account image I can’t send you the link to the image for google cuz my comment will end up on a spam comment
Thanks man! You helped with all my trouble shooting issues in regards to weight - Made some costume characters of my friends and family and they looking good! The more detail I put on the characters, the more I had to watch out for the upper shoulders affecting the objects. But now I am set thanks to your hard work. You rock man!
Thanks for going through this again. I followed your previous tutorials closely and had issues rigging. Happy to see a new tutorial to give it another go.
Hello, I love your tutorials. Could you make one showing us how to animate a character once it's textured and detailed? I made one with your previous tutorials but the rig is broken, I'm not sure how or why it isn't working.
Hello, I have made a model with that style of yours, but when it comes to putting the rig on, with the clothes that I have put on it, it doesn't work well, I think it's because of the solidifier, do you know something to fix it?
Very good instructional videos, thank you. I follow along and have no issues until I try to bind the rig to the body, I then get "bone heat weighting failed.....". I haven't tried with your model yet, but mine are low poly.
Thanks for this! But for some reason it does not work for me. My character doesn't bend, it just stretches and contorts haha. And the clothes don't follow properly.
I previously modeled some faces elements ( nose, hair, mouth etc ) how can i make them stick to the skull ? I tried parenting them to the skull but then when I apply Ctrl+P Weight like you do at 14:45 it crushes all the face elements to the ground... Thank you for the tutorials !
Possibly try boolean modifier (union + apply) or possibly better, ctrl + j (join) to join the nose mesh to the head. (haven't tried in blender yet) If your looking for facial expressions, you have to make a "nose" bone, and parent the mesh to that one.
Hey! Great video! I have a question, I have done everything step by step, when I got to the rigging part finally, I try to pose the character, but the mesh is deforming, not letting me do anything. What do you suggest I do?
ThaAnks a lot to you)) as soon as my cards will work again because of sanctions or I will get a new ones - I sincerely want to donate for your videos, you help so much!!)) same here, wish you you the best in rest of the day)))
OO thank you, I will try again, it is much more explanatory especially since I do not understand English. Generate rig didn't work in the first one I tried. I was told of a Bone error... Merci beaucoup.
Question? When I Rig my model and pose it... the legs and other parts of the body sometimes show through the clothes... I know you have to weigh paint it... What is your way of doing this?
Hello! Thanks a lot for the tutorial! One question arose. Please tell me why the first part of the finger at the hands does not bend in this skeleton? It can also be seen in your video. 17:54 For example, what to do to make a clenched fist? Thank you!
The scaling bends the fingers, but if you want to make a fist, you’ll need to rotate that control point using R to bring the fingers into the palm. Hope that helps 😃
Thank you so much for your tutorial. I have one problem with rigging, shoes are deforming, when I try to move legs. How can I solve this problem? Everything works okay but shoes((
Hey thanks for the comment :) Depending on your model you may need to go in and do some manual weight painting to adjust areas where the automatic weighting doesn't calculate perfectly. I'll see if I can work on a tutorial for this!
sadly my rig didnt quite work, after following the steps im stuck at the (generate rig) part I g to pose mode and when I move the leg like you, the knees and everything doesn't move the way its supposed to, I don't know what could be causing this, I'll keep looking around and checking what I could be doing wrong.
Thanks for this awesome vid Jon! It was A LOT easier to follow using your character file. But one issue I got was when I tilt the head or bend the body over, one blob of hair doesn't follow along. Tried randomly fixing it with the "Weight Paint" method but it only got worse. Do you have an idea what might've happened? I'm afraid this could also be a same problem when rigging with clothes. Thank you!
Can you do rig one of your characters made with extruded single vertices? or it isn't going to work? How do I do a character that can be easily rigged like this one?
Hi! Thank you so much for the tutorial! But I have a problem connecting shoes to the rig. For some reason they are just not in the rig so I can't move the whole leg. I modelled them with you another shoe tutorial and put them to my character. Maybe you know the reason for that or where to read about this issue. Thank you!
Want to know if we can rig the character with clothing. Like should we rig the main body only or join all components for rigging? @Keelan Jon , Thanks in advance
hi, first thanks for ur tutorial,i use blender kit for character and when i want to parent rig with my character its disappear i converted both of them to mesh but nothing changed plz help

Aloha Keelan, when I add metarig and scale it to size the character mesh scales with it, how do I just scale the rig without the mesh like in the video?
Can you do an updated tutorial on how to make a character? I noticed that this video you are rigging a body that is one combined mesh. So when i tried to rig mine i had no idea how to model the legs from the torso mesh because the pants are the legs therefore i could not rig it properly
hey keelan, if i bought your render file, can i use it to make some pose and other stuff and use it commercially? like for ex i make a carrousel on instagram for my self or client can i make money with using your resource that i've purchase and made from it? basically commercial purpose.. also let me know what i cant do thank you
This was a great tutorial, but whenever I move my characters head, their eyes and their hair dont move with it, and also when i move the shoes the shoelaces dont move with it, and i cant seem to figure this out. how can i fix this?
Don't know if you worked it but I had the same issue and fixed it. Select the laces, right click and select join. The shift select the armature, switch it to Pose mode, (the laces should stay highlighted) then shift select the appropriate shoe controller and press CtrlP (Parent to) > Bone.
Hi there 👋😁 This is not just for low poly characters. If your character is more complex, blender may have a hard time auto applying weights. You'll likely need to do some manual work there, or select those objects individually.

@@KeelanJon Good call! I tried everything (hooks, parenting to another object, converting the path to a curve, etc) and nothing worked. This seems to do the trick! Hey there, this can happen if your working with quite the complex model. I'd recommend keeping your character mesh as low poly as possible during the rigging process. Hope that helps!

Hey there, you may need to include more geometry on the legs for them to bend properly. And regarding the shoes, it's very common for those areas really close together to get some of their weight over lapping, that's where you'll need to pop into the vertex groups to do some manual weight painting. Try checking to see if any of the weight from one shoe appear on the other and then just remove it. Hope that helps 😁
