My teacher assigned an assignment with this and i had to make words using more words so i am picking words with silent beggings like phobia and euclyde
For something that was supposed to help people spell, you only score 24 out of 26. 😥 (The first letter of the Greek alphabet is ALPHA, and Romeo’s love was JULIET!!!)
It's spelled Alfa and Juliett in order to help non-english speakers pronounce the words correctly. The Official NATO spelling is the one in the video www.nato.int/cps/en/natohq/declassified_136216.htm
ALFA and JULIETT are the official spellings - non-English speakers might otherwise be inclined to pronounce Alpha as 'Alpa', and Juliet as 'Juli-ay'...
Normally you would be correct, but according to the official NATO website, it's spelled "Alfa" because it makes it easier for international use. www.nato.int/cps/en/natohq/declassified_136216.htm

Thanks so much for posting this funny way to teach the NATO alphabet. I'm sure my students will find it easier to remember

You never heard Zulu? Zulu warrior?
And the wonderful Michael Caine film.
It's a great film!
Isn’t the first letter spelled “alpha” instead of “alfa”?
No.
It is spelled Alfa on purpose. Not all those who use the NATO phonetic alphabet speak English, so they need to know it is pronounced with an F.
