A dark subject that unfortunately happens way too often in society. Women, children, minorities. I grew up in a violent household at the hands of my older brother. No one was safe, he would physically abuse my parents, my sister and myself. Both my sister and I were also sexually abused by him. Now 58 I am not capable of a relationship due to the damage I incured early in life. I now put myself last because I'm just not worthy, my goal is to do for others in a positive way because NO ONE should ever have to feel what so many innocent victims do. May the Good Lord Bless and Take Care of ALL VICTIMS OF ABUSE.

@@seongmanlee3 He wasn't abused as a boy and his father wasn't abusive to his mother. He has never talked anything remotely like that. His parents are supportive, nice people. They are in the documentaries about him. His father was a pastor.

He was raised in an excellent and loving and supportive home as far as i am aware. His father was the local pastor. This was a result of his career in music and all the touring, alcoholism and having less of a life than he ultimately wished for, along with some depression. He wrote this when he realised the damage he was doing to his relationship with his wife who remained steadfast by his side despite the crap he was doing and was taking her for granted. He made that choice to be a better man and change it all and be better for her. Giving up the booze and actively giving her more of his love and time trying to repair all the heartbreak he caused her. This was his anthem to all men to pull their heads in and pick up their act and be real men.

It was 1982 and I was getting into Alice Cooper, it was music a few years before my time, but was really enjoying Schools Out, Welcome To my Nightmare, No More Mister Nice Guy, Department of Youth (amazing!), so I bought Welcome to My Nightmare release from 1975. I had already listened to the cassette a few time but really didn't listen to the words of this song. I was driving into the parking lot of the Mayflower Mall in Sydney Nova Scotia with my girlfriend when I hear the lyrics for the first time. I almost burst into tears finally getting the double meaning of this song's title realizing the abuse that women take at the hand's of men. My girlfriend and I married several year later and are still happily married today. I find it hard to believe how much impact certain songs have made in my life and this is definitely one of the most important songs of my youth. Years later I have come to realize how amazingly intelligent and articulate Alice Cooper was and is. Amazing artist, amazing music.

But what I think is even weirder because I always thought this tune sounded a lot like the part of Pink Floyd on their Dark Side of the Moon album on the last song when they're singing words like you raise the blade, you make the change ,you will rearrange me till I'm sane.

when the song came out I was young and did not realize what he was singing about, alot of beautiful women go through this shit all over the world. My dad was great only when he was not drunk, my brothers watching what went on I thought it was normal. I got married to a beautiful smart great mother to our kids lady, how can anyone do that to her so many second chances, I am truly sick of what I did. I am learning now to really be a good husband and listen and love her. I do not want to lose someone so amazing.

It has zero to do with a male dominated society. It's about his woman suffers because of his bad behavior. He beats her up, he stays out all night, he lays out drunk and high, and she puts up with it. He doesn't get into the why. The why is, because she hasn't had a better offer. As soon as one comes along, she's gone. You'd know that if you ever got off your video games, came out of your mommy's basement, and met a girl.

This song was a breakthrough at the time of it's release in the early seventies. The realities of domestic abuse toward women were hush hush and never discussed out in the open. In fact, husbands were encouraged to hit their wives to keep them in line. It was considered okay! This was evidenced in numerous mainstream movies, TV, and even cartoons. Kudos to Alice Cooper for having the guts to write this song and to put it on his very successful album. I was a kid at the time that it came out and I bought this album album with my hard-earned allowance

This is a very good song with great lyrics. In the 70's, Alice was a fantastic performer with one of the best rock voices around! I've seen him live when he hung himself, got his head cut off, got fried in the electric chair, and when he did the choreographed dance routines with a troupe of dancers in skeleton suits with his cane and top hat. Now THAT WAS ROCK'N ROLL!

I was in my late teens and early twenties. This song and some other songs that came out at the time was what gave me motivation to not stay in an abusive relationship and to break free. Truer words have never been spoken. It's unfortunate and fortunate that women nowadays don't get it they have no idea what my generation and the generations before me had to go through in order for them to be able to live the lives they're able to have now. They don't realize that having a husband that actually helps with the children and the house used to be unheard of. Every time I see one of these RUclips shorts where the woman is whining about having to take care of the baby and not getting much help from their husband and it just blows my mind. And it makes me think just how spoiled they are and have no idea how hard and how long women worked to be able to get equal pay for equal work or even getting an education so that they can support their family when so many men used to run out and never even pay child add support. You guys and the 21st century have no idea how blessed you are

You're right on so many levels! I left home at 17 as my adopted parents as I got sick of my manic depressant mother playing her mind games between me and my dad which lead to him taking her side so I'd end up getting a beating from both parents by the end of the day because it was also seen as a "normal" way to discipline kids. So I left and got involved with a guy twice my age we lasted 5 years but the first couple of years involved him getting violent if I didn't take the Ecstasy and Amphetamine he was feeding me and by the time I was 19 I'd had a baby with him but one day out of nowhere I suddenly decided it was time to leave and a friend was good enough to offer me to move in with them but I had to arrange a removal van and pack mine and my daughters stuff all without him knowing otherwise he would of talked me out of leaving and I knew I didn't like the thought of being in that situation anymore but he was 20 stone in weight and I've always been short and had a tiny frame back then as taking the amount of drugs I was on back then reduces your appetite so I was really skinny and didn't stand a chance at fighting him back physically so I fought with my choice of words just like I quickly learned to with the masses of bullies we had at school back then as I realised they may of been wanting to start and go through with physically fighting you just for looking the wrong way in class and breathing and they also knew you were too scared to fight back so you found some satisfaction from them reacting totally confused. That's three different experiences of violence people can endure starting from birth right the way through your teenage years and into adulthood. And I forgot to mention the emotional damage the father to my second (and last) childs caused after going behind my back with social workers and successfully took my child to live with his new woman and there's nothing I can do about it. I've also gone through having a stillbirth before I had my second child and I had to feed her through tubes on the premature ward. I'll be 40 in a week and all my heads done is go over ny entire life coming up with even more questions that will most likely never get answered! I haven't spoken to my adopted parents in over 20 years they're still alive and only live a 10 minute walk away and I despise their one biological daughter the most she's so sel centered and I eventually started to notice they did show more of an interest in encouraging her to do well and go to university bit she literally took over my living in my grandma's house house while she was still alive and when I visited her she was always seemed so down and fed up but wouldn't dare tell me what was upsetting her but eventually I went round to see her again and caught my older sister snapping at her and I instantly realised it was my sisters attitude that was upsetting her but she had lost her old spark cos she knew she wasn't going to be around for many more years so she gave up speaking up to her. All I 've seen and experienced over the last 40 years is some form of physical or emotional pain and abuse which has lead to a lifetime of rejection and living a lonely life not mixing with anyone as I live in a town surrounded by all the people I went to school with who helped make my life a misery and I'm nothing like them with their painted eyebrows and awful taste in music lol so I stay by myself with my cat most of the year. It gets lonely at times but I've learned to adapt and started to shut my emotions off apart from the odd outburst as it's the best way for me to get through life by myself. I hope life is better for you now 💜

I wish someone would care about me like that, I've been through a few long term relationships from when I was 17, 23 years later and I'm still alone. The first was abusive, violent and forced me to take grughs every day otherwise he'd be even more likely to get violent. Then there's the quiet ones and they really do turn out to treat you worse as they get in your head and really fuck with your mental state. What the last guy did to me didn't leave me with physical scars but he left me with emotional scars and I've known from having to defend myself over the years that, cuts and bruises heal far quicker than emotional related wounds as sometimes they don't heal at all. I hope you and your lovely lady have many more happy years together 💛
