    BONUS TIMELAPSE VIDEO!
I took a bunch of photographs from various different angles while we were planking TALLY HO, and intended to create a time-lapse for the previous video - but it was more work than I anticipated and I did not get it finished in time. So I’m releasing it as a short bonus video! I hope you guys like it.

      @@AlisonFort A good reminder, Alison.
It brings to mind another rebuild at the present time where planking is being done against rotten frames which will then (perhaps) be replaced; no lofting in sight.

Nice little "bonus" Leo, I expect this short clip took many many hours of editing to finalise but it was worth it to me as I get a grin as I am watching. I've only been watching the restoration of Tally Ho for about a year and have seen everything back to the beginning in the first month or so and now eagerly await each new instalment. I have a small "plastic" cruiser which was a compromise with my wife insisting that was the only way I could own a boat but as I worked for most of my life as a cabinetmaker I always longed for a wooden boat (and still do). Watching Leo has shown me just how different the skills of a boatbuilder are from other woodworking trades and I am in awe of how much knowledge sits on those young shoulders

It’s not a new boat. It’s an old boat that’s had the all ribs replaced, one at a time. The keel was also replaced at a different time. The stem was replaced, also in its own time. Likewise for the deadwood and sternpost. Then the planking was redone just lately. Each of these jobs was a maintenance operation on an existing boat. Each job mostly independent of the others.
This is one of the most fascinating aspects of this project.

I get that it's a stretch to call this a restoration, when most of the boat's brand new but, as creageous pointed out, it's the spirit of the build that counts. I have an 'original' 1999 Yamaha R1. I've only replaced the frame and engine. Have you ever heard of the joke? I've had the same axe for 50 years. I've only replaced the head twice and the handle four times.

While you were talking I was wondering to myself(i'm a photographer), self, I know it must of taken weeks to lay all those planks, I wonder how difficult it would be to make a video with the camera in the same position thru ought the entire planking? Then I thought due to weather and workmen constantly moving things as well as a parrot who likes to pick apart everything he sits on it would be near impossible to make a video like that. The best someone could do is just take pictures from the same general area and piece the images together making a great video. Then to see that you were not only able to make the video in the hardest way possible you did it from at least 6 different exact locations. Wow you made a tremendously difficult task look easy. That was awesome.

My guess is that they placed gopro mounts in those locations so all they had to do was slide the camera into the existing mount and take a photo after each plank. Still a lot of work and planning -- mostly having the foresight to decide to do it ahead of time!

@@daveachuk My guess is that he took wider shots from a very close to identical location and cropped (and it looks like an attempt to color match them was made as well) them to match. Basically the way motion stabilization works. Would love to know exactly how he did it because the end result is fantastic.

Simon, What you have accomplished so far is truly amazing. Starting with a little money and a great big idea, you've accomplished so much with a crew of mostly untrained workers,. beat up tools, and an incredible imagination for finding ways to overcome adversity when things go wrong or too difficult to do by oneself. Truly the British way. I hope to see you set sale for England when you're ready and go back to a hero's welcome when you get there.
But now, I just want to see you do the decking and interior, the mast and the engine. Go young man !

Lovely - good choice of music too (but then it always is!). Do you ever look at it now and think "blimey, I've built a boat!". I know that's what boat builders do, but to me it's almost a miracle that you can put some wood and bronze and other bits and pieces together, and then suddenly one day it's a boat - a real, proper, fantastic, beautiful boat! It must feel fantastic.
