I absolutely love the glimpse of boat yard life. My early years at Ken Keyes boat yard in Walsall UK was not so much dogs as cats. Big brutes who used to battle with the rats at night and would always leave them lying in front of the hovel for us to find in the morning. It may have been a trick of my memory being a small child at the time but some of those dead rats were at least a foot long
My father when he was a kid earned pocket money catapulting rats at his local farm. His ammo was bolt stamping waste from the Derby railway workshop. He shot entirely by reflex no sighting just, flick-bang. Our pet cat (jet black 1/2 Siamese) used to catch some brutal rats. He literally dragged the bodies home. One day we had a headless rabbit. Oh joy.
Well, I don’t know about UK rats, but Boston wharf rats (Norway?) were easily a foot long plus tail. Of course that is just an estimate from watching them run along the wooden cribbing. From the days before the Charles River was cleaned up.
I spent some of my childhood in Hong Kong. Years later when I tried to tell people in Australia and New Zealand that there had been the occasional rat litterally the size of a small cat, no one would believe me. But I have very clear memories of about 3 different times when they ran out of the storm water drains.

This was the best episode of Saturday Night Live I've seen in ages. HeyPete got me good with that 'Bulkheads! Where do they come from?' Great job, team.
This may have been my most favorite episode thus far. Pete! He has become a polished guy in front of the camera and really enjoy seeing his work. I'd love to see how you are keeping your chisels so sharp. I was amazed at how cleanly they were cutting the end grain and those plugs.
*EVERY VIDEO ATONISHES ME* how much work goes into building a wooden boat - I had a 1962 Italian 30' wooden yacht and I WISH I had seen these when I owned her... It would have given me a MUCH greater appreciation of what she was, what went into making her, and it would have made the ENDLESS maintenance seem worth it.
The bulkheads are going up so fast! I know you're at least 2 years away, Leo, but I will be sad to see the boat building portion of this channel come to an end it has been a treat to watch your's and your crews craftmenship.
When the first bulkhead episode came out, I wondered “will Rowan be tasked with filling them”. The plug making scene was crafted to show just the hands at work making plugs. And then the reveal! Yes, it will be Rowan! “North of 2000”, and this experience shows in the results. Well done.
Rowan is amazing, (So is everyone else) he is so happy all the time even for the repetitive tasks that he does (drilling and filling thousands of holes). Thumbs up for Rowan!
This boat and the skill of the woodworking is going to make this boat more than it ever was. Just beautiful !!! So much time to build, But so worth the effort !!!!!!!!
Yes, it is a lot of bulkhead-building, as you alluded in the title. However, seeing the great work and craftsmanship, and the love put into everything has a soul-soothing effect on me. So, it certainly doesn’t become boring! The Boat Hook returning to Tally Ho is a very nice gesture! Feels like royal insignia coming back to the returning prince. So, all in all a very nice episode! Thank you so much for sharing all this, Leo & Team!
Thanks a Lot for these athmospheric pictures. It's always a pleasure to see the work of you, Leo, and your friends. I'm a boatbuilder for myself, here in Germany but nowadays not working in my profession. You always remind me better days. Expecting joyfully your next video...
Ah yes, but leo does have some serious amount of running large multi million pound sailboats in open waters. I would trust him thoroughly to be captain.
@@pmiller7886 Oh I'm not saying anything about his ability as a Captain. I know absolutely nothing about that aspect of him tbh. Just saying the two are unrelated is all.
the Boat I grew up on had a little trap door in there middle of the table with a little brush velcro under, inside was a small receptacle for bread crumbs and non gross stuff to be swept into since the table had a good sized edge it was harder to clean every last crumb with the sponge... French boat though so lots of bread crumbs.... it was a great idea and was very useful.... used several times a day for a decade +
I gotta say that your amazing choice of music has not only been retained since the beginning of your movie making on RUclips, but it may have improved. I love the videography and the wonderful personalities in every episode. Great to see how much work you can knock out of those bulkheads in just two weeks! Great progress
Busy with the final chapters to the lovely book written by H.W. Tilman, Mischief in Greenland, which is his account of his adventures in Mischief a Bristol Channel Pilot Cutter built in Cardiff in 1906 by Thos Baker, East Canal Wharf. A fascinating tales that aptly describes the sturdiness of this class of sailing vessel. Likewise I cannot wait to see Tally Ho, which is of the same class of vessel, carry you and lucky crew on future adventures. Wonderful seeing the interior taking shape.
Thanks for another great episode! There are so many who are inspired by this channel. The portraits and the boathook might seem like small things, but there is something behind them.
Tallly Ho videos are always entertaining, and often uplifting. This is the cream of RUclips video creation. It's great to see such a historical boat rebuilt to the finest standards from the keel up. Yet, all up and down the Eastern coast of the US there are boats sitting, languishing, often rotting away for lack of a new owner to take them on, for lack of funds, time and energy for an expensive refit, or sometimes just for lack of a bit of spit and polish. So many of these boats would make great 'tiny houses' if they could only be transported to interior lakes, or even just set up on a small plot of land. I hope some youngster with the energy and interest will look into the feasibility of using some of the thousands of used boats in the U.S., from Maine to the Keys. They could be DIY projects, perhaps on the scale of a CCC program, providing training in skilled trades and short term employment. It could lead eventually to ownership of a fine, useful small home that started as a 25' - 40' boat.
Amazing as always! Cool music, excellent footage, and the bulkheads look really pretty. I can't wait to see more of the interior. I look forward to your next video!
23:44 , And two pencils . Comes to mind ,My favorite Harry Potter line at the Diagon Alley scene . I think he said Diagonally ! Got to love it ! Great work guys ,rock on !

Rock the Boat rocks. I did a paddle up an East River estuary when they first started a few years back. Great organization. Well worth supporting. Thanks Leo.
The whole world ought a be like those boys and their choice in tunes is gnarly, Railroad Bill is a wicked good tune
I've got a cup of tea I'm ready for this weeks episode
The whole boat is one big piece of art work including these mini movies. Amazing...
It does warm my heart to see ya'll crew took the road less travelled, freedom is delicious be ye young or old, two legged or four, handed or winged. Let freedom ring out round the world, all sentient beings throughout infinite space, let chimes of freedom ring. Chart a course to beauty, go and do senseless acts of beauty and random acts of kindness.
Pete and the crew deserve mention today. The comfort and on camera presence has grown so much since the beginning of the project.
This was the best episode of Saturday Night Live I've seen in ages. HeyPete got me good with that 'Bulkheads! Where do they come from?'
Great job, team.
This may have been my most favorite episode thus far. Pete! He has become a polished guy in front of the camera and really enjoy seeing his work. I'd love to see how you are keeping your chisels so sharp. I was amazed at how cleanly they were cutting the end grain and those plugs.
Can't be the Pacific Northwest on the Olympic Peninsula without alot of rain to start the wet season in September! I remember it well!
Rowan is to be commended for his cheerful demeanour while doing well, such a long tedious job.
Rowan is such a nice guy.
I hope that he will stick around for another 2 years atleast.
The video with Steve Cross is what got me hooked on this series.
Best channel on RUclips, no question.
Looks like a brand spankin' new Powermatic bandsaw, nice!
I was admiring that myself!
Stellar choice in tunes for this episode. Smooth but resounding. Exciting and mellow. Very cool
Agree.
Thanks a Lot for these athmospheric pictures. It's always a pleasure to see the work of you, Leo, and your friends.
I'm a boatbuilder for myself, here in Germany but nowadays not working in my profession. You always remind me better days. Expecting joyfully your next video...
15:35 Teamwork makes the dream work. LOVE.
After watching a lot of different people boat building I think Leo is the only Captain I'd trust to go sailing with.
100% Without reservation.
Building and being a Captain are two entirely different things. One has very little to do with the other.
The captain's of Delos, Ran , and Riley of Vagabond are all careful sailors...but yeah I would sail with Leo Anywhere
the Boat I grew up on had a little trap door in there middle of the table with a little brush velcro under, inside was a small receptacle for bread crumbs and non gross stuff to be swept into since the table had a good sized edge it was harder to clean every last crumb with the sponge...
What a great read, just goes to show there are great spirited leaders in every generation. Tillman was quite exceptional.
The workmanship you guys are doing is amazing.
Those oblique bulkhead lines make me seasick - even without moving in my armchair!
Cheers from DK
You make this look so easy! Watching this beautiful boat come alive again is thrilling. Keep up the great work, guys.
Every time I look at this boat is reminds me of a jewelry box. As a woodworker, I say very outstanding craftsmanship!
Amazing as always! Cool music, excellent footage, and the bulkheads look really pretty. I can't wait to see more of the interior. I look forward to your next video!
I always love the music in these videos, and this one was like listening to the closing credits of Saturday Night Live for 25 minutes!
I love the additional footage of Port Townsend. The content is not just cool, but well shot! DD
23:44 , And two pencils . Comes to mind ,My favorite Harry Potter line at the Diagon Alley scene . I think he said Diagonally ! Got to love it ! Great work guys ,rock on !
I like the boat yard dog segment lol
I've been watching this since the beginning. I'm not a boat builder, have never even been on a boat, not even a carpenter, but this damn thing is a work of art. Soon to be a fully functional work of art.
Always a good day when a new Tally Ho video is posted! 👍
I watched this first episode 57 days ago and now I'm finally up to date.
This channel's great, a true testament to steadfastness.
Finally up to date on videos!
No matter how bad you feel about the day seeing Pete explain random things to the camera always brings a bit of joy haha.
Pete’s leather vest might be the dopest vest I’ve ever seen
Every group needs a Rowan(Sorry if spelled wrongly). Loving the evolution of Tally Ho and also the evolution of Leo's movie-making & editing skills.
Fantastic episode; one of the best, so far. Great accompanying music, too.
Dude
She is progressing so very nicely.
Your team seems to have one commonality. They are using their craftsmanship in line with their knowledge base. But perhaps more importantly they are building her with love. So in essence part of their hearts and souls are becoming part of Her.
Becouse of this and Her fine crew She will always bring you home.
Fair Winds and Following Seas.
14:10 MUHAHAHAHA .... I've been an Auto Mechanic and worked in construction... Pete just taught me a new phrase. Thank you.
Rowan bringing the really important content this week
That's a *beautiful* little dinghy! Even in that small boat, you can see the craftsmanship that has gone into it. The pride of the boatbuilder in their work!
I have never sailed in a boat nor do I intend to even tho I live by the ocean. But man do I love the craftsmanship and the work that goes into it and that you guys do.
