    My two cents: I have massive respect for both Schumacher and Hakkinen. The thing that makes me admire Mika more is his recovery from his accident in Adelaide - I don't think anyone of Hakkinen's era would have made such an amazing comeback. Schumacher may have been the better overall driver, but Hakkinen had to dig much deeper just to even get back into an F1 car. He's one of about three F1 racers who has managed to recover from life-threatening head injuries.

      I honestly think Mika was the fastest man and had the most natural speed but Schumi was a bit better overall because he was stronger and more ruthless mentally. But during their reign they were ridiculously better than the rest of the grid.
      In the 80's you had much more top drivers. Think about 1985: Senna, Prost, K.Rosberg, Berger, Jones, Lauda, Piquet, De Angelis, Mansell... Schumi and Mika didn't have any competition in the talent department... until Alonso and prime Raikkonen came.

    This was Mika when he was the fastest driver in the world. In my estimation he was, at his peak 1998-2000, one of the 3 fastest F1 drivers of all time.

    No wonder he got many many pole positions when the McLaren was competitive. He is a truly fearlessly quick driver much like Senna.

    Senna, Lauda, Prost, Hakkinen. Ron Dennis really had some legendary drivers in his team.

    @mushrume - In 1988 Senna had ZERO mechanical failures. In 1989 Senna had 6 mechanical failures, in 1990 he had 2, and in 1991 he had 1. I thought he was hard on his machinery too, but there is no consistency which would suggest he was hard on his machinery. He was just unlucky in 1989...

    Hakkinen's personality and racing "balls" will always overshadow Schumachers...But, based on wins and championships, Michael's accomplishments are phenomenal.

  • @rich1701
    @rich1701 15 лет назад +1

    Schumacher was the better driver, he was the more complete driver, Schumacher was quick in any car he was put in and made the car work for him. People say he was in the best car for most of his championships, but they forget that he was the one who developed the Ferrari over the years into a good car to work for his driving style.

    If Senna had lived, he would of won in 1994 due to Benneton's ban, In 1995 he would of won as Williams produced a good car. In 1996 he would of totally dominated the season, in 1997 he would of won again, and then he would of retired. I say this because if Hill and Villeneuve did it, Senna definitely could!

    Points don't mean jackshit.
    Prost VS Senna 1988-1989
    Wins: Senna 14 - 11 Prost
    Poles: Senna 26 - 4 Prost
    Senna also led 11 mclaren 1-2 finishes. Prost only 3.
    In 1989 Senna retired from victory by mechanical failure 4 times, and every time Prost inherited the win. So in wins they should actually be 18-7 for Senna against the 2nd best driver in the world at that time.
    Senna's undoubtedly the best.

    @mushrume - No points don't mean anything. If a guy loses the world championship because his car breaks down every other race how the hell is that fair? In 1989 despite the points saying Prost defeated Senna, it's common knowledge Prost was whopped so badly he buggered off to ferrari.

    People always talk about his accomplishments, I mean, Schumacher is good, but Hill, Villeneuve, Hakkinen and Alonso beated him, Raikkonen and JPM almost did in 2003...It just is the matter of being in the right car at the right moment.

    • @evilchris22
      @evilchris22 3 года назад

      And Raikkonen in 2003 with an a mclrean 2002 with some updates for the season 2003! amazing driver! schumacher had a super car and a very very weak team mate. Salo in 1999 could win a gp! the ferrari's car wasn't so slow as schumacher said!

  • @rich1701

    It says your judgement is biased more than anything. Senna competed in 10 seasons, the last he couldn't complete. Schumacher competed in 15 seasons, 1 he couldn't complete. So any statistical comparison on that basis is deeply flawed.

    @bigbodlover If schumacher chose not to retire in 06, sorry.. if he was not forced to retire... he would of won in 2007 and 2008 as well. Because Massa out performed Raikkonen in 2008, and In 06 Schumacher proved he was quicker than Massa overall.

  • @Mformularacer
    @Mformularacer 14 лет назад +1

    Lol fail.
    The 1993 mclaren chassis WAS a very good car to drive as directly stated by Senna BUT the engine power in the customer ford V8 was pathetically low. Schumacher outqualified Senna 8 times during the season so that says something about who had the better car. Benneton introduced their own tc in monaco I believe. Senna is the best driver of all time and this is coming from a schumi fan!

  • @rich1701
    @rich1701 15 лет назад

    Ok 1 year out of what?14? he wasn't competitive, 2005 and to some extent 2003 were affected disproportionately by tyre performance. Who had the better tyre influenced the outcome of the race more than any other factor and it was too overwhelming for a driver to over come. Schumacher did have his weaknesses, eg weak under pressure. But overall he was the best driver on the grid since 1994 to his retirement IMO.

    Therefore "Senna had that many"..."Shumi had so many in...therefore he is the best..."...bla bla: Thats USELESS CRAP!!!
    Only by VERY careful comparison of stats, and at the same time always taking into account the circumstances, eras, team-strength the particular years, mechanical failures etc....
    One can come a small step close to some sort of "truth"!!!
    But the real truth we will and can never now! We will never now if Schumacher was better that Senna or vice-versa!

    Yes, and if Senna would be a little bit Younger he could also Dominate 98, 99 and 2000...
    And if Senna would have change 85 to McLaren he would also Dominate 85, 86 and 87...
    And if Mansell dont would have the Best Car 92, Senna would also Dominate 92...
    Wooooooh
    Thats Fantstic, normally Senna would be 21 F1 World Champion, if he would come 6 Jears early into F1 and would be 4 Jears Younger...
    LoooooooL
