Just got back into tatting after about 3 years. I have many hobbies and was absorbed by sewing clothes lately. My daughter suddenly took an interest in tatting and asked if I could teach her the basics so I had to brush up my own tatting skills. You are an amazing teacher! Thank you so much for sharing your expertise.
Great ! Just used it for the first time. managed to adapt it to on eon a chain and one on a ring! And I used my needle nosed pliers to pull it through - wrapped the fishing line around the tips of the pliers a few times. Thanks.
Lovely video, thank you... Pretty much what I've been doing for years. Was shown by the Shuttle Bros at Camp Wanna Tat 2005... My worksheet has been going the rounds the tatting word since I taught it at Shuttlebirds... A couple of different things I do... Double knot the end of the Power Pro, to help when puling through at the end by putting a finger inside the loop using a short sharp tug... Also I take out the magic loop between two FULL double stitch - so not to deform the lace... I also use it on rings when no chain available... BTW if you pull on one side of the tail - it opens the loop
I'm glad you liked the video! Magic Thread is so much better than sewing in ends!! I prefer to use the quilting grips - doesn't hurt my hands so much; but I did show tying the ends in a recent video for others who may prefer to do that. I also prefer to put my loop in the half stitch and just hold the stitches really firmly. This way I don't have an issue with deformation and the tails tend to stay hidden better for me. This is the beauty of tatting - everyone can do what works for them.😊
Really thank you!!! I think i am waiting for Your teaching for years! 🤗🌷 finally i found these videos. Thank you the happiness what i feel when i can do something new in my tatting. 🙏 Good teachers shares knowledge, i do the same: share informations to make our life better. God bless! 🌷❤
thanks for your time and talent! very appreciated😃👍🏼 for anyone in the US that lives near a Dollar Tree store--i got a package of the finger grips (they are bright pink) in the aisle where the glitter and art things are . i think there are 3 or 4 in a package.
Genial tu magia de hacer desaparecer las colas, me deslumbraste; he aprendido muchas técnicas contigo, te estoy más que agradecida. Sigo tus videos. Te saludo desde Chile 🇨🇱👏❤️
Two questions. First of all, do you reuse the fishing line that you used for your magic loops? Second, what size & kind of needle do I need to have the thread pop in the top like that?
Yes! You can re use the loops many, many times. They do eventually go 'floppy'... but not for a long time. you can still use them like this but it's more fiddly. I prefer to cut a new length. The needles are called 'self threading needles". I show them in the 'sewing in tails' video. ruclips.net/video/ROyjMeOM5W4/видео.htmlsi=KKx2yAoSq-2r297O
Hi Rosemary, I bought mine online. I've had it for so long I can't remember exactly where I got it from! If you google it, many options come up. I'm sorry I'm not much help! It is worth looking around though, prices can vary A LOT. So glad you're liking the videos.
I have Fireline for beading, definitely gonna try it for tatting! I get mine at JoAnn's, I think Michael's has it too, as well as Hobby Lobby. Pretty sure you could find it on Amazon too, definitely worth shopping around for best price :)
A bit of a late comment here, so I don’t know if you’ll see it. First off, thanks for the videos! They are quite helpful. My question is whether you’ve tried monofilament instead of braided line; my thought is that it would slide easier but I’m wondering if you know of a reason to avoid it?
So glad you're enjoying the videos. I haven't tried monofilament, and I can't see a reason not to use it. I would be interested in your findings if you ever try it.
Hmm.... you 'can' - but I wouldn't advise it. Firstly, it's going to be quite hard to pull both threads through. Secondly, it's going to make your chain (or ring) REALLY thick and ugly, I prefer to spit my tails up. The start of my Daisy video explains how I split my tails when I'm working with two threads. Here is the link for you. ruclips.net/video/dunLILX9bzY/видео.html The other point is that when you're just beginning a piece it's much easier to tat over the tail than a magic loop. I hope that helps!
Your crochet thread could be too thick, or your stitches could be too tight - or possibly a combination of both. Make sure you put your loops in your chains. I hope that helps.
@@NooBearAus I was thinking of trying dental floss instead. I have seen other videos where tatters have used floss thread which I don’t think we have here in Oz., and are able to pull both tail threads through. I’ll keep persevering!
@@mariaviotto9908 I tried dental floss and found it too hard to grip, also the floss is very floppy, making the ends tricky to tat over. That was my personal experience - you might find it works well for you. Have you tried the fireline or powerpro which I showed in the video? I like them the best because they hold their shape.
@@NooBearAus Not yet. I'm back at work Monday so won’t have a lot of time to practise until, maybe, the weekends. I want to try the floss to see if I can get it to work first.
@@mariaviotto9908 Sure, see what works for you. Another thought to consider is separating your ends. I don't put both tails into the same loop as I find it makes it quite thick, but again this is personal preference.

Do you have any similar technique for needle 🪡 tatting?
I'm sorry I don't needle tat.
where did you find the finger grips?
In the quilting section of the craft store (Spotlight in Australia) they're also known as 'quilting grips' - this might come up in a search?
I am new to tatting. I have tried magic loop with crochet thread but find it difficult to pull the ends through. What could I be doing wrong?

yes
que marca es ese hilo? me gusta.
It is Power pro fishing line, and Fireline beading thread

Why did you reverse your work?
You reverse work to change direction. Have a look at this video, it explains how and why we reverse work 😊
As of today, 4-6-21 there's no video with this... just audio.
I just had a look at it and there was both video and audio. Not sure why you wouldn't have visual. Would you please try your link again.
