Great video, the quality is very impressive for such a small channel, i wish you the best :) As for end portion of it, the community must mature and become better from a moral and ethical standpoint, but we must first see why isle fans are like this in the first place. It is utterly impossible to create a healthy and positive playerbase when the developers themselves support, actively participate and even encourage toxic behaviour. If anyone has the responsibility to be ethical and moral, is Afterthought, the fact that the community needs to tell themselves that "we must not be X and Y, we need to be better than the developers", that, is sad. We do have to be better, but without Afterthought doing the same, that will never happen.
Thank you very much for commenting and for the kind words, your channel was one of the reasons I began creating content. I completely agree, the only way some of these devs act like this is because the players are so used to it, which really sucks to say. We can only do our part to not stoop to their level.
XZ I have enjoyed your videos as they are often thought provoking, you definitely have valuable insights that I have loved watching, but in this case you did unnecessarily fuel the flames with your angry video on a non-existent, and not to be added camera system
@@smefour My video was thought-provoking like all the others, what youre referring is the later portion where i display anger *partially* for comedic purposes. I did not make any calls to action, i didnt promote or encouraged violence of any kind, i attacked the developer's ideas, not the developers themselves. The vast, vast majority of the community dislikes these changes and they are all displaying their stance towards it willingly, i am not responsible for their actions, specially when my channel is no way near large enough to have such influence even if i wanted to. and as a final note, the system is not "non-existent" it is being developed at this very moment and we *should* deliver our feedback now, not when the system is already implemented. We cant wait for the devs to finish their idea and only then get our input when we disliked the change for weeks or months, by then absolutely nothing would be done, displaying our discontentment right now is the best course of action, the problem is not when you do it, its *how* you do it
Both sides have a rough time of it. For players you get a handful of devs shitty devs that have a lot of power over you and it can really ruin the entire experience. For devs, there can be hundreds, sometimes thousands of ppl telling them they're shit over something in an update they might not even be responsible for. Both should conduct themselves w a reasonable degree of decorum, but it's difficult when communication breaks down n ppl feel like they're being attacked on both sides. It's why a lot of devs studios (I wish it were even more) have full-time community managers on the payroll to act as a buffer and help bridge communication between the players and developers. Course, you can also have bad community managers...which is a whole other box of worms...n not the kind that's good for fishing. oOo
It’s rare to see a community that both hates players who enjoy the game, and hates players that shit on the game. It’s part of the reason why I don’t engage with The Isle on Reddit or Discord whatsoever.
Hot take but I don’t think games should count with it’s playerbase having 5 hours to do absolute fuck all in a videogame. At that point you are just actively wasting people's free time
@@No-longer1 for real bro you literally just sit and wait, then you cant find anyone else that isnt sitting and waiting, and if you attack anything besides ai you die because everyone is sitting in large groups and sitting and waiting
@@bobertastic6541 That's why despite PoT's flawed quest system, it at least gets everyone moving around the map which opens up so many exciting PvP encounters.
I will never forget the sentence one of my friends said after I convinced him to buy this game and he was like "Dude this game doesnt respect your time. It's literally a time wasting simulator" And he is absolutely right. And its only gotten worse since then
@@mikoajpaduch5254 its not a waste if you enjoy it. time not being wasted isn't only if youre earning money or doing something productive, that's an idiotic mindset. according to that kind of logic, if i kick back and watch a movie with my girl, thats a waste of time, if i have s*x multiple times a day, thats a waste of time, i could be doing productive things instead of all of that. most would agree neither of those are wastes of time though, right? its your life, spend your time how you want to, not how others tell you to.
Touching on the part that people don't like to give the weirder ideas a chance: It should be noted that even if a new system or feature sucks, and even the devs say it sucks and that they will change or walk the decision back, it takes months for them to actually do so. So people are a little more jumpy since it means if something is bad, they'll be stuck with it for up to half a year.
Precisely. People say things like “oh it can always be changed in the future!” But at MINIMUM that won’t come for a few months. It may not come for a few years if it’s not something many people want. No matter how needed it is. *COUGH* actually good nesting system *COUGH*
Considering they said it could be a server setting I imagine it won't be hard to roll back rofl. Games already have different camera control options so I can't imagine it would be hard to just plug the old camera back in with a menu/server option. I think that this camera could be tested out as an optional choice or maybe one server could have it. Hopefully not AU 1
I got this game a few weeks ago. And honestly, the biggest complaint I have is that it's always dark. The nights last too long. Even in a rainstorm, it becomes pitch black. Sometimes even during the day, I have to use night vision. I don't understand why they went that route.
I think the next patch changes will tweak the lighting the devs know it’s an issue something about getting lumen to work well with the new update to UE5
The existence of pot shows me that even if there’s a bend of realism, there’s definitely a way to have Dinosaur games pop off again. Now they just need to fix the boring quest system and we’re golden
The quest system is getting a revamp and it should be released sometime this year I believe, I don't know too much about it but from what I've heard it should be a lot more interactive and less boring and repetitive feeling .
Why does no one ever remember that humans are yet to be implemented? It’s like they’ve added all of the Horde races and classes in World of Warcraft before adding the Alliance races and classes, instead of how it should be done - a handful from either side to establish a gameplay loop. The Isle is missing an entire faction and they’re still adding more dinosaurs, or Horde classes. Plus the constant re-hashing of maps and dinosaurs, the whole thing is just in a loop again. We’ve seen this all before and there’s still no solid game play loop.
With the camera changes they are basically directly undermining all the hard work that some of the other devs have put into the skin system, meshes and the complex animations, now that you can’t even see your own body.
For me, even as a person who’s never played the isle once, it isn’t a bad game/concept. The diets and different play styles are a welcomed addition. But that doesn’t excuse the BS they pulled before like insulting people who have valid criticism, the Dino roster (mainly future installments) being…. **COUGH**, dondi’s existence, the overall ego certain players have and overall toxicity and balancing issues. I don’t hate the isle but they have to do better cus we know that they can do it (I miss the lore and hypos too) Banger video tho fisher 👍
As someone who played this genre and literally all of the big three, I have to say this. The way that The Isle is going for its game is fundamentally broken at least for casual/people who don't have friends in the game because of: - Players making the lives of other players a nightmare Sure all this realism and cool gameplay is nice. Until you realize that the playerbase has to do all the legwork because if they don't moderate anything then we get stuff like apexes teaming up with other apexes and doing things that really shouldn't be possile. Or alternatively you get cannibalized by a group of own species and then die unless you're *very* skilled at combat to the point you can 1v3 or such.
The Isle has been in development for 8 years. 8 years. Dondi had a falling out with deathly(who went on to make PoT) and suddenly there was a recode which has culminated in the last few years of this. And most likely all the details for the smaller dinos will become irrelevant the year or decade they add humans.
I actually just bought the game yesterday and then I discovered this video, crazy. also I find it hilarious that RUclips marked this as the Google Dinosaur Game instead of The Isle.
Yeah i watched a bunch of videos on it and just bough it. I see a lot of complaints here, but Im having a lot of fun. The game isnt really a "game" though and I get why people might not like it. Im an adult though and I like the hardcore aspect that requires patience and experience rather than immediate gratification.
The most notable thing I've ever known with The Isle was TheGamingBeaver's escapades through the legacy version. And now, I got PoT to turn to if ever I just want to turn off my brain and go full dino lol. But sure, even if with a focus on realism or immersion, The Isle Evirma is simply unmatched in terms of graphical fidelity, attention to detail in both the maps and the playables that can occupy it, in addition to the rather neat diet system, where at least you have a key sheet as to what gives what protein. But gameplay is just as important as said realism, and without that balance, it's little better than any painting, which isn't inherently bad, not at all, but it isn't exactly fun to simply *look* at it, at least on a general concensus. In short, The Isle is good, apart from the fact its shit.
@@MsMoonDragoonI would personally disagree, models, animations, and sounds are EVERYTHING to me. Even if the gameplay is lackluster, I have fun just watching the animal move and interact with others and the environment. So although yes, gameplay is very important, so is graphics. Which is why I prefer the isle over anything else, even if pot has better gameplay, I literally cannot settle for anything less simply because of how good their models and animations are. Again, personally.
But you gotta be able to do stuff too otherwise it’s not a game and well, stretching it more and more just to cut it short very quickly, just feels like wasted time… I will enjoy watching videos for sure! But buying it? Nah…
Everyone calls The Isle nice looking, but I don't see it. The game runs really bad, I have all settings as low as possible and I still get like 15 fps (for reference my pc can run Monster Hunter World on high settings fine, and I can run Beasts of Bermuda way better as well). The server lag makes any fast creatures rubber band around, making combat against fast or small creatures a nightmare. On top of that the game is almost impossible to see in you spend a ton of time either in overly dense jungles or in the pitch black of night. The audio also bugs out too, causing sound effects to stutter. No other game I've ever played runs this bad. I also find the "realism" to just be annoying, unintuitive, and intrusive mechanics. The stamina system discourages fighting (practically the only thing you can do in the game), the diet system is neat but doesn't make the game any better, nesting is pointless, like I don't see this "immersion" that we've traded all fun and mechanical depth for. Regardless, a pursuit in realism doesn't make something inherently good. A good game is one that has well thought out mechanics, an engaging story, an intent with its design, or just any form of fun. I guess The Isle has a bit of fun in it, but it feels like that fun is just a drop in the bucket of bad game design this game is made of.
We continue to play The Isle because the competition is abysmal / non existent. Litteraly all the most dedicated content creators I personally know have all burned out and dropped out of the game. Good video keep it up!
Exactly this. This genre is so ripe for someone to come in with a competent vision for a dino game. They'd get sooo many players basically overnight because games like The Isle are honestly just there to act as life support for the players who are waiting for something genuinely good to eventually come around. And when it does, people will flock to it like depraved bees around the spring's first flower blossom.
The isle is my most played game on Steam by a country mile. However, ever since they started prioritizing the Evrima beta I just can’t get into it. All of the classic legacy servers are dead and I miss them so much. I haven’t been able to recapture the experience of spending hours playing with people, forming herds and packs, migrating and hunting, playing hide and seek as a baby with carnis trying to eat me. I didn’t mind the long growth times or the many minutes of aimless walking and finding food. What I miss now is the feeling of being in a world with other people. I can never find players these days in Evrima. I just feel alone and it doesn’t feel like I’m actually playing the same game. I miss the chaos of legacy, the massive migrations and the hunts, being stalked and running for my life. I’ll always find myself wandering back to it every now and again (gotta get my 1000 hours!) but it just isn’t the same. I miss seeing people talking in the global chat. The realism wasn’t worth losing the feeling of community and interactivity for me.
I agree with everything besides global chat. I feel it should be an option for server owners but should not be in the official servers. Too much raging, toxicity, and people looking for eggs mixed in with the actual feeling of "community".
I wold relly love if they implemented some intresting animal behavurs i the game, like sharpening claws on a tree as a tenontosaurus, ore marking territory as a ceratosaurus, so on and so forth. I wold also like some quality of life chages like herbivores inriching their diet with frogs, chickens or even baby dinosaurs, and carnivores eating plants to aid in digestion.
Arguably one of the best isle videos I've seen yet, honest and not to sour, and probably one of the most valid opinions I've seen shared yet and formatted in the best way I can think of (also happy bug hunting!)
Awesome, thoughtful, respectful video. Totally agree. I've been saying for years that devs (of any game) need to be careful with realism because it can so easily make a game unfun.
Personally I just don’t enjoy the game anymore as it’s almost leaning too far into realism. Recently (about two months from now) I have basically left the isle (and was reminded why when I DARED to share an opinion in the isle discord) because it just wasn’t fun anymore. The roster is way too niche to have a variety of gameplay as of now, the mechanics are confusing or outright unnecessary and the community is a hot mess. So I just thought one day, “why do I still play the isle? There’s nothing I really gain anymore from playing it other than frustration, so why keep playing it?” And so I left it for POT (a decision I only partially regret only because the community isn’t much better)
I'm a pot player and I will agree the community isn't the best, sure u can find some really great players who actually play fairly, but that's with almost any game u can play. I've seen videos of the isle and it looks kind of rough (as are a lot of games) but from what I see a lot, the isle doesn't take too well with any type of criticism or advice/opinions. PoT really listens to their players and takes interest in their ideas to help the game improve or fix things.
Amazing video! I'm glad I got this recommended :) Even though I love Isle, these new changes have made me to turn away from the game and play other dino games that are more enjoyable atm. The Isle just makes my anxiety to spike, you have to worry about so many things while playing and with new growth times, I just don't feel like wasting many hours to grow something when I can lose it in fraction of that time. Afterthought really needs to start listening more of the community or The Isle will fall eventually and that would be sad thing to see.
Genuinely love this video. Summarizes a lot of my own thoughts on the community and game alike without leaning into any terrible extreme and being a rational person the whole way through. Thank you!
Amazing video, it’s true that immersion has started going too far in this game, i like realistic games but games should also be fun, you summed it up perfectly!
For me, The Isle was good before because it was incredibly social and things were always happening. Giant herds roamed the map, there were smaller playables running up to people with the express purpose of seeking attention, the ambiance was bussling with all sorts of species vocalizing, and the most important part, the chat system. God it felt like something was happening at all times in Legacy. Legacy was buggy and simplistic as hell, and Evrima is leagues better; but Evrima is desolate and lonely, its not fun to play because you cant interact with anybody unless you happen to find another member of your species, its a depressing experience walking through the jungles and grasslands by yourself for long periods of time.
OMG I'm so happy there's someone else who relates. Never seen anyone talk about that before. (Haven't watched the video fully as I'm writing this comment, my bad if the video talks about it lol). I actively try to find people to play with and still haven't made ANY friend through Evrima, while on Legacy I'd make them every day even when I wanted to be alone!
Exactly. It sucks even more if your own species turn on you because of the terrible community, well most of them. There’s been countless times where I’ve seen same, non cannibal species attack AND KILL each other for no reason at all, it’s painful, especially if they’re pack animals and need to stay together.
i feel like half the peoplein the comments dont realize this game isnt done and also the fact they couldn't of updated legacy if they wanted. You said it yourself 'smaller playables running around and all sorts of species vocalizing' this game isn't even close to being fiinished, yall need to calm down. ☠️
i gave up years ago because the game is impossible to run on my system, one that ive built as best i could within my financial situation as a disabled person who cant even find a way to make ends meet in anyway i can without the government pointing at me and telling me im faking it and giving me what is basically a death sentence of the very very extended, long and slow type but ive had it when it first arrived to early access, and before it became clear how troubled it was going to be, for many many years, it was a nice dream for a little while to just jump around as a little austroraptor, able to sit on the carnotaurus player's back while they ran laps around a lake.
Big mood. I’ve never been able to afford a PC of my own, let alone building it with the parts I’d want. Playing a game that barely runs is worse than not playing at all…
the fact that I played this game all the way back before legacy became legacy, back in 2017, it it was some of the most fun i had, willingly putting hundreds of hours into what was basically just a murder sandbox and walking sim and that when they pushed evrima, i've put maybe less than 10 in it since I think it really shows just how much their push for immersion has killed the actual fun in the survival. Ive been through ever single piece of drama in this community, seen ever lawsuit, and for better or for worse, im still here. Waiting for the game to be fun again, to bring back that magic that first brought me to the isle to begin with.
The main issue is they talk about so many things coming, and I recognize its a small dev team, but how many months does it take to buff stamina regen?? And how many YEARS does it take to buff the Ptera at ALL?
The biggest problem is that Dondi will randomly decide the camera system is shit (for no apparent reason), then spend 3 years implementing patches and the new camera system while the players and community starve of dinosaur variety. I remember when Evirma released it was good, but then 3 damn years of nothing because they decided to change and update everything about the game before they considered adding more dinosaurs, more maps, etc.
also there has been a rivalry about pot and the isle community, i will say something, pot and the isle are for 2 different playstiles, like, one is an mmo and the other is a survival horror game
@@therealkingfisher. strong disagree, especially with latest updates, the isle is no more an ''horror'' then PoT or wolfquest for that matter. and with the perk and quest system at least PoT gives you things to do and mess around with.
I genuinely hadn't thought about the isle for rougjly six months til I saw this. Glad to see all the reasons I stopped playing are just as prevalent. It's such a shame, this community introduced me to a bunch of my friends.
Man this production quality is STELLAR! And I appreciate that you actually respect The Isle and its developers by maintaining a central stance and not praising nor loathing the game and its developers. I respect your decision to do that and I respect you, you have gained a loyal (and defiant) subscriber!
I was excited for evrima, but gave up on it entirely very quickly. As someone who doesn't use discord or have a dedicated group to play with, besides constantly being lost and starving, or getting murdered while trying to drink, it was the simple boredom and loneliness as there is no global chat. I have to avoid all players in order to avoid losing a dinosaur that I spent hours growing, no one nests in this game, so there was absolutely nothing to do there for me, and so I still stick with the legacy version to this day just because I can chat with people or ask for someone to sit around with or get nested. The realism was also getting on my nerves too, constantly being sick or hallucinating because I tried not to starve to death and ate the first thing edible to an herbivore.
its sad that anymore youtubers whom are true to the original form of content making are so rare to find people like you fisher are so rare to find anymore
The outrage and discourse is bad, but shows the passion the players have because many see the potential this game clearly holds. We believe it is special and we want to see it succeed :^)
i didnt even know this game existed but i got recommended the video anyways, so here i am, it was very good, explains a lot of things to the devs if they watch the video too, hopefully the game grows well
Your editing has gotten so good man keep it up, honestly you could definitely become a huge discussion creator without having to stick to this Dino sim trap that all of us other RUclipsrs are stuck in lol. Great video!!!
Man, i just miss old school, Legacy isle all the way back in like, 2018-2019, I have my fondest memories there, before Evrima and back when The Deinosuchus was just a big theory at the time.
I pretty much gave up on The Isle since each update there are more and more problems that occur. Now I can´t even launch the game itself due to "disk write error" and the only advise from the troubleshooting team was to "look it up on RUclips or something".
Honestly, I haven't been able to play the Evrima branch for over a year since the Hatchling and skin update came out. And it honestly looks like I'm still not missing out on anything.
i couldn't stop laughing throughout this whole video. excellent video man seriously. id watch a video u make no matter the subject just because of how well put together your format is
As someone who has played isle from the day it came to steam until stopping 3-ish years ago, the problem is with Dondi and his echo chamber. The only notable thing that other comments haven't brought up is the cheating issue. Some people use programs to turn everything a certain color to see in the dark, a friend admitted to me last year that they had a shader to turn everything pink to see far longer than the average player, specifically at night. I've also heard reports of people using some method to lag other players to kill them easier. Just stay away from dino sim games. Unless you can tolerate the same basic, boring gameplay for 9+ hours and a community that essentially is 2b2t-lite then have fun. Oh, and don't look into the grooming and ped problem unless you want brain rot. But if you want to bite that bullet, SidAlpha has some pretty interesting videos on that.
I’ve done the equivalent of going on strike for the game due to some of the changes, mostly since the idea of the camera changes genuinely made me realize that this would make my main (teno) completely and utterly unplayable over others, you can barely see behind you, so how’s it gonna feel for the Dino that is only effective when it’s enemies are behind it? Also I kinda hate gateway almost entirely because I’ve died to cliffs more often than I’ve seen other players. And also because I lost the healthbar
Ive never played the isle, but ive always enjoyed watching thegamingbeaver play it. and yes, definitely the immersion is very good, the game is also hourworth of growing and all, which makes it evermore frustating when you play, then die.
Even better when you play. Grow your Stego for 8 hours then die to fall damage because the camera only shows you bushes or your dinosaur feet have the grip of a Formula 1 car with slick tires during a Hurricane.
I remember the time, when The Isle was fun. Running around as a dinosaur on that weird alpha-maps, with that sea, where everyone was. That time, you had to start as an Austroraptor. I don't know if that animal is in the game these days. Or this giant forest-map, where you had to run for hours to find your buddy. That was shortly before they introduced the Hyperendocrine BS. I loved it to walk around the blackforest-ish area as an Allosaurus, nervous to meet others. I made friends as an Austroraptor, and we annoyed the Rexes. I was in a Twitch-livestream and we herded around and it was amazing to see my Dinosaur do things on Twitch. I was young and happy, new things had a feel of wonder to it. I remember then, that the dev of the isle made some weird business decisions. Everyone was hating him for it. Dondy was his name, I guess. That's the time I left the isle. It was a nice summer memory. But the search for the friends on the way too vast maps, the constant death through starvation, and later the Hyperendocrine horrormonster gave me the feeling of emptiness. Then the maps changed again. And again. My favorite parts dissappeared for a more streamlined concept. More monsters. Humans. The rest, never improved. The scandals behind the development. I turned my back on the isle. At the end, everything changes. And old memories of sunny mornings on the couch, hunting together as a small raptor pack, friends and strangers together, united through a rudimentary chatbox... dissappear. The isle isn't, what it was. What it used to be. I see the modern iteration. And I know, I will never come back to it.
If it's not clear to anyone why after 5 years, a huge playerbase and millions of dollars in support from donations and pre release purchases the game is still not only in an alpha state but exactly the same as it was 4 years ago I'll tell you. The lead director behind the project is unconsciously and sometimes purposefully sabotaging the development of this game and any game he's even remotely been involved with, constantly embezzling funds, sexually harassing staff, brushing child sexual abuse under the rug, streaming games at work. Literally anything that doesn't involve developing or leading the development of a game. The Isle is a cash cow that can never and will never be completed. It isn't possible while Dondi he exists. Even if he left the project he would still try to destroy if from outside. It's what he does, ask him yourself
I remember picking up this game cause I thought it looked really fun and cool, the main issue is that although it is fun to get big, it takes WAAAAAAYYYYYYY to long to do anything, and the hunger/thirst system kinda sucks, and when you lose... you lose
The real problem is the game dose not reward your efforts in successfully getting a dinosaur to adulthood. When you die your time spent on growing that dinosaur was for nothing. So whay dose it need take so long to grow something when there is no reward at the end of the ordeal.
Good analysis. Sauria is also another dinosaur game that has been under development for a long time now and also causes a passive-aggressive reaction like threaten to ban on Reddit if mentioned. However, sometimes people give some reasons why they don't like when Sauria is talked about while asking not to talk about it; for example, the game is not perfect, it has running problems, it is still unfinished, its development is slow and it rarely has any updates and bug fixes. But because of this situation, it's harder to say where it ranks on the scale compared to Isle, Path of Titans and Ark. Such a shame because Sauria looks like a good and great game and would certainly be even more awesome when finished.
I played this game for awhile but gave up just before the Gateway update. I was having performance issues that I couldn’t fix no matter what I did. And now my game is running Baldurs Gate 3 on default settings, which proves that it was just the Isle being poorly optimized. But even despite those issues I still enjoyed the game. But now I have zero interest in returning to it because everything I’ve seen about all the changes just sounds like they’ve made a worse game than they already have, without adding anything significant. Instead of addressing real issues the game has, like the aforementioned performance or fleshing out the gameplay loop, they’re trying to fix problems that aren’t even problems to the point that the games becoming unplayable. Pteranodon was my go to dino back when I’d play it, but now they’ve completely nuked my bird with the changes to stamina and food. Why would I play a game the developers seem to be actively trying to destroy when I could go play any number of games that are much more fun and much more stable.
My friend begged me to get this game and play it with her, since i play other dinosaur/creature survival games. So i got it to try it out, after playing for about 10 hours it got insanely boring, growing is such a pain and all that time goes to waste because of a pack of kosing rexes or something. I even found BoB more fun when i got it while i was sick and played it for a few hours 💀
I first found out about The Isle in middle school as well, and it was TheGamingBeaver who introduced it to me. Genuinely amazed with how gorgeous the game is, but I do agree that it's just hard to play sometimes
Hey, I got this video in my reccomended and it was a great watch; I watched it twice actually. Sometimes I'd see The Isle on the Steam front page and while the game looked pretty it always looked off. I guess I trusted my gut in not getting it. I played a lot of Team Fortress 2 during covid and the game was in a rough spot. Cheaters a-plenty, bot accounts in droves, exploits of course, and annoying weapons that needed to be rebalanced (mainly just the scorch shot). What did Valve do during this massive player influx with all these issues? Nothing. Just seasonal updates with new cosmetics, that was it. There was some small updates to "combat" the bot accounts. The updates were like a kid holding the flashlight for dad; sure it helped, somewhat, but doesn't really do much. They basically abandoned the game; but as divided as the TF2 community is, it still thrives. This game though, this is somehow worse than the TF2 dev team. Instead of doing nothing, they're actively harming the game. I saw some other videos about this game and Dondi and wow, it's shocking to me that the game isn't a lower rating score. Your game's lead dev genuinly sounds like a egotistical moron. Best of luck to you guys. Even though I am not part of this game's community, I hope you guys get a fun game in the end.
What genuinely kills the game for me (me and my husband were spending a LOT on it, like buying copies for friends and more) is literally the fact that well... can't really play with those friends anymore. When you spawn in Evrima, not only your calls travel a pathetic distance, but you cannot add people to a pack/herd/group without ''meeting'' them first. How, you may ask?... yeah, calling stupidly in the middle of the fields, or learning how to use coordinates. Isle Devs... a game is supposed to be fun. I don't wanna spend the first 1-2 hours trying to even re-group with my friends. The fun is supposed to grow a dinosaur with them, NOT to search for them, be killed, and re-start the search. I would be willing to forgive everything else the game had gotten mediocrely for the ONE mechanic of adding people from far, just like in the old (Legacy) version of The Isle. Multiple players complain about that, but the Developers are lost in ''realism'' so much it no longer becomes a fun game to play.
The minute they scraped Progression huge damage was done. But trying to replace legacy has caused even more options. Removing the Hypos too was stupid. The Isle used to be so fun with good communities. Still a great game but a ghost of its former self.
For me, the only plus side I find in the Isle over Path of Titans (haven’t played BoM) is that sense of anxiety, awe, fear. I’ve never had any truely epic or scary moments in PoT other than a brief jumpscare or the occasional tricky fight. Nothing memorable like the Isle tho. No huge migrations, no huge beards just kinda sitting around and nesting/growing, no “oh shit there’s a bigger carnivore coming our way and we can’t fight them”. But then you die after 6 hours and have to start new. Or starve, or fall off a hidden cliff, or get stuck at the bottom of the cliff that you have to spend half an hour trying to walk around. Like PoT is much more fun and easier. I would find it very hard to go back to the Isle now. But some of those moments in legacy was just… wow. So many memories I have from playing the Isle like 5 years ago. I have very few of those memories in PoT :/
Exceptional video! This perfectly summs up the status of the isle as of current. I will admit ive been seeing that the isle is just becoming increasingly more difficult to play in both pvp and casual. Pvp is getting more and more finicky with the stamina changes and the game is just becoming more difficult to enjoy overall. I do have hope for the game but i feel as though the developers should really just focus on the content not unessacary changes that 90% of poeple didnt even consider asking for. Right now i feel like Path of Titans is a better option than isle but all isle really needs is one GOOD content packed update to really make the game fun again
The 2015-2016 versions of this game were easily the best. I can still remember watching TheGamingBeavers videos on it, memorably the dondi herd. Thats what made it great. People coming together, making herds, having fun traveling together. Now, if a dino shows its face, its hunted down without mercy. I know thats part of the game, but no one even bothers to talk, just 'kill.'
The devs just blatantly leading people on with "super hulk apex dino's!" and "human gameplay with tech tree!" And people obviously want both of those in the game. So people just *imagine* 30+ dudes riding 12 Humvee's with machine guns vs a dinosaur big as your mom.
I used to play this game extensively, mainly before it became “Evrima”. It used to be an actual complete-ish game with several choices of Dinos on both herbi and carni side. It felt fun, but then they stopped updating it in favor of Evrima. Evrima was released with extreme hype and expectation of a complete playable experience. Instead it realeased with two Dinos, and took several months to even release one more Dino. It has been this way for the past 4-5 years.
I played The Isle a few times because it was the only way i could hang out with her lol. It was pretty fun, but i agree with most of this video. It needs a lot of work
I remember playing this game with my older sister and little brother i remember us hiding in a building that wasn’t fully developed we stopped playing because the latest update at the time was disappointing and just never played again
My biggest issue with this game is that it gives absolutely no respect or consideration for a players time or experience playing it. Evrima is so boring, lonely, and desolate, most times I log off the moment I start playing. This is because after playing for years, I know my experience is just going to be walking around trying to fulfill a diet or getting killed in a way I couldn't possibly prevent. Frusturating and draining. Ive played BoB way more but maybe I should get PoT, idk
I am a new player and for me the stamina mechanics seems like the only thing that gives some chances when fighting bigger animals and adds lots of depth to fights. As if one runs out in the middle of the fight, then even a smaller animal has a chance to beat it
I honestly believe that the situation would be much better if we as a community would behave with more understanding and compassion towards eachother. This does not mean blindly accepting changes that are being made to the game but to voice our thoughts in a more kinder way. The developers have no reason to make the game into something no one wants to play and there will always be people dissapointed in the changes made for the game. I´m extremely thankful for the developers that they have made this special game and I have personally had great playthroughs in the game that are unforgettable. If we could all remember the good times and focus on what is good both now and going forward I think The Isle can truly become a magnificient game.
🙋♀️ I really like this game, it’s one of my favourite! 🦖 But I do agree that there could me some modifications to improve it or rather improve the „gaming-experience“ like more ai so you can actually survive as a lone juvi💀 for example. And an in-game Voice chat & stuff🦕 Edit: Oh and I wanna add that I think your points are all valid, they definitely need some work, some more some less, but your summary was great👍
@@therealkingfisher. I think it was great! It had the most important information and was clear, I mean if someone wants to „deep“ dive into 1 specific point, then I’d rather make another video explicitly for that, but personally I think for a „gerneral“ discussion of what people like or don’t like this is the right amount of info👍 also it isn’t too confusing for new players especially this way☺️
Im a the isle fan and player and i just loved this video, it has been a while since i dint play or check the discord because i dont have a computer anymore and i dont use ny cellphone alot, and this updated me alot on what is happening and i understand alot tthe reasons here! The game is really good but ofc, as any games they have their down sides.
I've seen several player videos which show me exactly why they play AND love it. Myself - open world PVP is basically being in combat the entire time - even when no one is shooting at you. At my age that is the opposite of relaxation.
No you're actually right, the players have to sooner or later grow up and be more mature minded, realize that they are playing in a game that isn't really theirs, but that belongs to the devs. However, this is the internet problem and social media culture, toxic language is the norm and even 10-5 years ago. It's this streamer cult, and Tik Tok made them a bit whingey. Obviously the devs and those that made the game must also lead by example, by making clear guidelines and rules but it's their game at the end of the day, they have final say whether they stay the same, modify and testing overtime here and there in game, or finally if they can't handle all the trolling and drama, they can pull the plug and make something else.
I bought The Isle back when it was in very early access, barren, few dinos, no optimization, and no direction for the game. But it had potential. It had soul, attention, and obvious care. However, I ended up leaving it because the gameplay loop... well, it just didn't exist. Everything was surface level, and most of all I felt like the game was just a glorified existence simulator to waste my time. I'd never wake up the following day and remember what I did in my playthroughs yesterday. All I ever remembered was spending time on the game, but I didn't remember what exactly I spent that time doing. Mostly just waiting around, filling up arbitrary stat bars, trying not to become someone else's meal once in a while, dying to breaking an ankle from falling off an odd map geometry that wasn't visible. Just, nothingness. The iceberg didn't have anything below the surface. I tune in to the game every now and then, see there are some additions, some neat stuff like the new map, better looking visuals. But I'm still left wondering, what's the point? I never come out of a gameplay session feeling fulfilled, or thinking my time was well spent. I try to like the game, I really do. I love dinosaurs and I love the fact that some indie devs are trying to make actually good dino games (historically something no one has really managed to do well cus it's not a tried and tested formula). I just can't get excited for this game, despite all the potential I see in it. Despite how obviously the devs care for it. It just feels as dead in the waters as the day I bought it.
As someone who plays Path of Titans, I feel like the Isle community is ungrateful of their platform. I wish I could play it but I’m on PlayStation. Not every camera angle has to be changed for each Dino but looking at the pictures they used in the example, I actually love the fear that side view of a trex ambushing brings! It’s exhilarating. That’s the point of a survival game. In PoT when I’m on a smaller carni or herbi , if I hear a crack, I pan around quick and see the big ol clunky Rex in the distance. Then I just run off. Only the smaller carni can truly ambush, causing the big Dino’s to be in the flat areas basically just pvpn each other. This isn’t Jurassic park where you create a park and everyone lives happily, this a Dino survival game, eat, get ate, run or stand your ground. Stop killing the genre.
I feel like the Isle went too realistic whenever they stopped adding the mutant Dinos, it was legitimately one of the coolest things that made The Isle, The Isle
I was banned for making a deez nuts joke btw. Two fucking months. No warnings or prior marks to my name. Two months. All because I made a deez nuts joke responding to someone who had been obnoxious to various members of the community. I’m actually quite happy though as leaving that discord server and putting “game poopa stinka” in my “appeal” was freeing.
My jaw dropped when I read this because nearly the same thing happened to me! I didn't get a ban, but I did get my message removed (all I said was "Thagomeez nuts" in response to a conversation involving stegosaurus tail spikes - a completely reasonable joke) and the Senior Admin pinged me to say "Stop it." Like... stop what? Nothing about the joke came anywhere near infringing on any rule, unless the word "nuts" in the anatomical context is actually an offense. And I wasn't persistently doing anything, it was just a one-off message. I'm bitter about it and don't want to talk there anymore. e_e
Forgot to mention how each major update takes like 6 months to a year, while also not always providing everything they promised(me and my bois are still waiting on Sucho), and often having balancing and bug problems I do wish the game the best, but I’ve not had high hopes for a long while
Great video, the quality is very impressive for such a small channel, i wish you the best :)
As for end portion of it, the community must mature and become better from a moral and ethical standpoint, but we must first see why isle fans are like this in the first place.
The only thing I don’t like is that you spend 5 fucking hours growing something just to get killed by falling off of a 4cm tall chiff
This proves that it’s not size that matters but how you use it

Litterally this.
(i wouldnt mind if they tried a new idea, i just dont wanna be stuck with something i already SEE failing in advance for months)
This is another reason why Path has a larger playerbase. Path's devs are way more active in updating and patching their game.

We’ve seen this all before and there’s still no solid game play loop.
what about cannibals and tribals? or strains?

For me, even as a person who’s never played the isle once, it isn’t a bad game/concept. The diets and different play styles are a welcomed addition. But that doesn’t excuse the BS they pulled before like insulting people who have valid criticism, the Dino roster (mainly future installments) being…. **COUGH**, dondi’s existence, the overall ego certain players have and overall toxicity and balancing issues. I don’t hate the isle but they have to do better cus we know that they can do it (I miss the lore and hypos too)

@@therealkingfisher. gotta support the goat smh
As someone who played this genre and literally all of the big three, I have to say this.
The way that The Isle is going for its game is fundamentally broken at least for casual/people who don't have friends in the game because of:
- Players making the lives of other players a nightmare
Sure all this realism and cool gameplay is nice.
I actually just bought the game yesterday and then I discovered this video, crazy.
also I find it hilarious that RUclips marked this as the Google Dinosaur Game instead of The Isle.
yo bro by any chance you know how to get servers to show up. I just got the game but there are no servers showing up
@@christophermarquez7496 yh u on the legacy version u gotta switch to evrima
In short, The Isle is good, apart from the fact its shit.
graphics mean nothing to me. how good a game looks means fuck all if its an unfun mess.
I was just watching one of your videos!! And thank you!
The Isle was peak in like 2016 and 2017 with Progression and all that... Ah, the good old days, when The Isle was a video game, not a simulator...
miss these days
That’s so crazy I feel nostalgic knowing that it was 8 years ago I played it last
The isle is my most played game on Steam by a country mile.
Major agree
True, true back in the days our Group was close 24/7 in the isle. Now only once in a month. But maybe we are all getting older.
Watching the GamingBeaver suffer in this game was the highlight of my childhood, I'm so sad about how painful it is to play the game
Thank you!! Your feedback is much appreciated!
Awesome, thoughtful, respectful video.
Totally agree. I've been saying for years that devs (of any game) need to be careful with realism because it can so easily make a game unfun.
Real life sucks. That's why we play video games. Make a game too realistic, and we might as well go outside.
you should tho

Even though I love Isle, these new changes have made me to turn away from the game and play other dino games that are more enjoyable atm. The Isle just makes my anxiety to spike, you have to worry about so many things while playing and with new growth times, I just don't feel like wasting many hours to grow something when I can lose it in fraction of that time.
Afterthought really needs to start listening more of the community or The Isle will fall eventually and that would be sad thing to see.

this was such a funny vid. i loved the lethal company part! thank you for speaking honestly but not harshly :)
A well summarized and thought out video, good work my friend
i gave up years ago because the game is impossible to run on my system, one that ive built as best i could within my financial situation as a disabled person who cant even find a way to make ends meet in anyway i can without the government pointing at me and telling me im faking it and giving me what is basically a death sentence of the very very extended, long and slow type
but ive had it when it first arrived to early access, and before it became clear how troubled it was going to be, for many many years, it was a nice dream for a little while to just jump around as a little austroraptor, able to sit on the carnotaurus player's back while they ran laps around a lake.
Big mood. I’ve never been able to afford a PC of my own, let alone building it with the parts I’d want. Playing a game that barely runs is worse than not playing at all…
The sitting down simulator
the fact that I played this game all the way back before legacy became legacy, back in 2017, it it was some of the most fun i had, willingly putting hundreds of hours into what was basically just a murder sandbox and walking sim
and that when they pushed evrima, i've put maybe less than 10 in it since
I think it really shows just how much their push for immersion has killed the actual fun in the survival.
Yeah there’s no excuse for that
The biggest problem is that Dondi will randomly decide the camera system is shit (for no apparent reason), then spend 3 years implementing patches and the new camera system while the players and community starve of dinosaur variety.
I remember when Evirma released it was good, but then 3 damn years of nothing because they decided to change and update everything about the game before they considered adding more dinosaurs, more maps, etc.
Bro got us with the bait n switch, and then he got us with the bait n switch
also there has been a rivalry about pot and the isle community, i will say something, pot and the isle are for 2 different playstiles, like, one is an mmo and the other is a survival horror game
Path of Titans is much more arcadey while The Isle feels like a more proper survival simulator
I appreciate that man! And yeah, that’s the goal!
Man, i just miss old school, Legacy isle all the way back in like, 2018-2019, I have my fondest memories there, before Evrima and back when The Deinosuchus was just a big theory at the time.
I pretty much gave up on The Isle since each update there are more and more problems that occur. Now I can´t even launch the game itself due to "disk write error" and the only advise from the troubleshooting team was to "look it up on RUclips or something".
the music at the end is so beautiful..... this video is amazing. best isle commentary.
Great video man probably the best Isle video I’ve seen in a while.
Thanks so much!
Honestly, I haven't been able to play the Evrima branch for over a year since the Hatchling and skin update came out. And it honestly looks like I'm still not missing out on anything.
Masterfully edited as always
i couldn't stop laughing throughout this whole video. excellent video man seriously. id watch a video u make no matter the subject just because of how well put together your format is
I appreciate it friend, thank you so much!
@@MeowLesty ah yes. sounds like alot of fun lmao. ah this game man
A lot of things such as day night cycle times and bugs were recently patched. Day is 40 minutes and night is 20 minutes, its so much better like this.
900 years in and still loving every second and the amount of work poured into the game
Sad times.
So many small channels putting out legit quality stuff now it must be hard. New sub you earned it.
The soon reference at the beginning hit hard
Great video, Keep it up, youll get more subs.
12:28 idk y this had me giggling 😂
Thank you for watching!

I love this game. Super valid criticism and a great video! Hope the isle keeps growing from here and doesn’t die by falling off a 4cm ledge.
I agree with every point, well said!
The devs just blatantly leading people on with "super hulk apex dino's!" and "human gameplay with tech tree!"
And people obviously want both of those in the game.
It's why I never played the new version but instead stayed with the old version where I can join a room and just run around the map going meep meep
Video: The Isle
RUclips: Dinosaur Game
I am a new player and for me the stamina mechanics seems like the only thing that gives some chances when fighting bigger animals and adds lots of depth to fights. As if one runs out in the middle of the fight, then even a smaller animal has a chance to beat it
also when is part 2 of your the isle horror story i need it
Soon TM
OH YEAH FAX
haha thats funny @@therealkingfisher.
"Hate to play but play it anyway" XDD
I honestly believe that the situation would be much better if we as a community would behave with more understanding and compassion towards eachother. This does not mean blindly accepting changes that are being made to the game but to voice our thoughts in a more kinder way. The developers have no reason to make the game into something no one wants to play and there will always be people dissapointed in the changes made for the game. I´m extremely thankful for the developers that they have made this special game and I have personally had great playthroughs in the game that are unforgettable. If we could all remember the good times and focus on what is good both now and going forward I think The Isle can truly become a magnificient game.
First time finding your channel and its amazing I can’t wait to see you grow
Thank you!!
🙋♀️ I really like this game, it’s one of my favourite! 🦖
But I do agree that there could me some modifications to improve it or rather improve the „gaming-experience“ like more ai so you can actually survive as a lone juvi💀 for example. And an in-game Voice chat & stuff🦕
Edit:
Oh and I wanna add that I think your points are all valid, they definitely need some work, some more some less, but your summary was great👍
Thank you! I appreciate the feedback, it was a lot of info to condense in a digestible way, so I may have skimped out on some details 😅
@@therealkingfisher. I think it was great! It had the most important information and was clear, I mean if someone wants to „deep“ dive into 1 specific point, then I’d rather make another video explicitly for that, but personally I think for a „gerneral“ discussion of what people like or don’t like this is the right amount of info👍 also it isn’t too confusing for new players especially this way☺️
Bro ur just the best best Human ever like WHAT?!
When you find yourself in the Cambrian: "Mama mia!"
Bro I love this game to bits, and I'd hate to see the game fall at the hands of an overly toxic community. But I'm positive that it's gonna change
Ever since inception to now, the big three were always trailed by toxicitiy
Dino games always attract autists
Im a the isle fan and player and i just loved this video, it has been a while since i dint play or check the discord because i dont have a computer anymore and i dont use ny cellphone alot, and this updated me alot on what is happening and i understand alot tthe reasons here! The game is really good but ofc, as any games they have their down sides.
I do. I very much hope for the isle to succeed this game is too beautiful to fail.😊😊
I've seen several player videos which show me exactly why they play AND love it. Myself - open world PVP is basically being in combat the entire time - even when no one is shooting at you. At my age that is the opposite of relaxation.
Sometimes I feel like the devs haven’t actually played the game at all lol
Yo some really good visuals in this video
I didn't get a ban, but I did get my message removed (all I said was "Thagomeez nuts" in response to a conversation involving stegosaurus tail spikes - a completely reasonable joke) and the Senior Admin pinged me to say "Stop it."
Like... stop what? Nothing about the joke came anywhere near infringing on any rule, unless the word "nuts" in the anatomical context is actually an offense. And I wasn't persistently doing anything, it was just a one-off message. I'm bitter about it and don't want to talk there anymore. e_e
@@Hi_Phantasy uhh, i think im good because i am not banned, i could do that but worse
Forgot to mention how each major update takes like 6 months to a year, while also not always providing everything they promised(me and my bois are still waiting on Sucho), and often having balancing and bug problems
I do wish the game the best, but I’ve not had high hopes for a long while
