  • @Icd3000I
    @Icd3000I 5 месяцев назад +2

    Of course it depends on what you like
    Another thing is that if you are a fan of just such games, then Fallout 1, 2 and (even though this is a separate and simplified game, but still good) Fallout Tactics are the best
    then comes the console fallout brotherhood of steel
    It’s a pity that they didn’t tell you that in our time it is advisable to install a mod on fallout in order to significantly improve playability, several childhood diseases of early games have been corrected there
    (and on Apocalytic Road it is generally advisable to install a pack of mods - 10-15)
    Fallout 1 and 2 are generally advisable to go through several times in any case
    as they say - the only bad thing about fallout is that you can only play it once for the first time
    another thing is that it takes a long time, now people usually don’t spend that much time

    1 and 2 are the best in the series . The first have some bad management controls but is great. The second have fixed some issues from the first.
    The rest are just a lazy rpg with a great foundation. Most people have not played the first 2 and are dismissing them for the old graphic and the turn based combat.

    Hi Clayton, I'm a huge Fallout guy, so let me give you some advice.
    Fallout 1, The original, only got one patch after release, so I would recommend downloading a mod called "Fixt", it's a big unofficial patch that fixes many bugs and has quality of life improvements.
    The gameplay is somewhat outdated, and could be frustrating at times (and for that I actually recommended a character creation guide to give you a head-start and save you some headache later on), other than that the timeless graphics and great story and atmosphere carry the experience.
    Ok, with all that done, TWO BIG tips, the first is that you're on a time limit, so don't loiter too much before resolving the game's first act, after that, you're free to explore and quest however you like, the second, don't read anything about the story of the game, it's one of the greatest stories in video games, that should be enjoyed organically.
    BEST OF LUCK ✌😄

  • @Mars9982
    @Mars9982 5 месяцев назад +4

    In the unlikely outcome that you convert to PC gaming; FO3 and FO New Vegas are separate games, however on PC there is a mod called " A Tale of Two Wastelands" that links the two games as one so you can seamlessly travel between the east coast (FO3) and the west coast (NV). You keep everything in between traveling OR you can simply finish FO3 and then continue to NV in a kind of new-New Game+ kind of way.

    I would love to see Bethesda handover the rights to Fallout 1 & 2 to NightDive Studios to make a nice modern remaster and port to all platforms. Microsoft also needs to handle this hot property right and have Obsidian Entertainment develop another Fallout title. If they announced that Obsidian was developing a new Fallout game the world would kneel before them in respect.

  • @j.macjordan9779
    @j.macjordan9779 5 месяцев назад +3

    Ideally, Fallout 1 & 2 would indeed be the way to go; in fact, there is a nice flow in terms of the development from 1 to 2 (i.e., the 2nd game has the same format as the 1997 original, but it's an overall improvement). In terms of gameplay, New Vegas should be an ideal start for those who don't want to play 1 or 2, but the lore in New Vegas vs the TV show..., there seems to be conflict...(?) BUT! This has been addressed by the creators & now there's a timeline to prove there is no conflict!
    That aside, the 3rd is the one I started with & it's probably the best, by default, to play for those skipping 1 & 2, yet want exposure to the Fallout lore. As for Fallout 4 & Fallout 76, they are very much the same game imho -- their faults become more & more apparant as you play them, but out of these two, Fallout 76 takes the cake in terms of how bad a game can be made so as to risk destroying an entire ~25yr old franchise.
    Luckily, Bethesda did avert the collapse of Fallout via Fallout 76 by releasing (thus far) 18 major updates since the game launched & still has another on the way..., but yikes! The game is always online & exists as many different persistent game worlds -- it's been improved, but both Fallout 4 & 76 fall victim to performance issues (Fallout 4 really missed it in terms of graphics, & the game has some serious glitching to it as well) & the always present & pervasive appeal to player microtransactions. This introduces the fun of potentially having to pay real money for something as basic as quick travel...once. & That's just not cool! Plus, Fallout 4 & 76 really marked a turn away from the modding community, which they claimed wasn't what they were doing at all...they just left the option open while releasing their own premium mod content...(?) I don't know. Fallout 4 & 76...in my own opinion...are not too difficult to skip altogether...
    Otherwise, Clayton -- you need a small form factor PC you can connect to your Home Theater; with Steam's controller support, it gets the PC pretty close to the ease of playing on a console...you'd still need easy access to a mouse & keyboard though.

  • @DaBigCheeso
    @DaBigCheeso 5 месяцев назад +6

    I think 4 is a good entry. 3 has the better story of the "modern" Fallouts, in my ever so humble opinion, but the mechanics for 3 and New Vegas have aged a bit. 76 is of course the newest, but as an MMO it's more of a Fallout theme park than a crafted single player adventure.
    That being said, if you're good with older isometric RPGs, I'd go all the way back to the first two. Fortunately each numbered entry stands on its own so you can jump in anywhere and be fine.

  • @UToobUsername01
    @UToobUsername01 5 месяцев назад +1

    Fallout 3 is a good entry point for noobs because it isn't an isometric view. In the old days RPGs felt stiff and you used turn based combat. Animation was limited but story was king. If you like Dark humor try FO 1+2 first. If you like a more serious tone 3-4.
    Bethesda baiscally took the engine they used for Elder Scrolls to make Fallout 3-4.
    FO New Vegas is my fave.
    Before you even start playing Fallout I would recommend you watch these post apoc movies:
    1. A Boy and His Dog (some WTF moments in this movie in the third act!)
    2. Mad Max Road Warrior
    3. Fist of the North Star animated movie (watch it for free on youtube. Peeps have uploaded it)
    4. Steel Dawn
    5. The Road
    6. The Book of Eli
    This will get you into the Post-apoc genre and help you understand what inspired the Fallout games.
    Also you can't mention Fallout without also mentioning Wasteland which is Fallout's older brother. Play Wasteland series when you are done with Fallout if you crave more post apoc stuff.
    Don't forget to take a trip to australia and visit the outback which is essentially what all post apoc movies look like but this is the real Mad Max set. LOL If World War 3 happens expect everywhere to look like australia when its over but imagine mutant crocodiles with 2 heads instead of one.

    GOG is better platform to get your games, because you have the option to play offline, unlike Steam, where you HAVE to be online at all times. I got Fallout 4 on GOG, with all DLC's for $11 Canadian, when the Amazon series in its first week. Though that sale is now done..... Fallout 4 is still has bugs that are still not repaired to this day, and the advantages of PC there are mods that correct some of the bugs.
    Personally I hate those controllers, very frustrating, and limited. Prefer mouse and keyboard, any day, but that is me. =)
    I have tried Fallout 3 but just could not get into it. That said Fallout Las Vegas was ssssssssooooooooo much better, I played it quite a few times back in the day.
    As predicted Fallout 76 is a mess, knew that the day it was announced. Esp a pvp centric game where there were no npc's just players, that and the huge amount of bugs it bombed big time. From what I have seen later from podcasters it has improved, Bethsaida added some pve elements, as they found out the hard way that most people play casual pve, but it is very lack luster.... so be careful with that Fallout 76,... it is a mmo....sort of.
    A little off topic, Cyberpunk/Cyberpunk 2077 also has a similar theme, but it has a 1980's flare to it.

  • @Mr._Anderpson
    @Mr._Anderpson 5 месяцев назад +1

    I'm going to sound like a cranky old man, but starting with Fallout 3 is something I would only suggest for children & people who don't enjoy problem-solving in their games. The Bethesda games are more looter-shooters than RPGs, & I say that as someone who has wasted tons of hours playing with the virtual LEGOs in the settlement building system.
    The less a person knows about Fallout, the more they will enjoy the show from Amazon. For those of us who are old fans, it is Rings of Power, now with radiation sickness.
    I would make one suggestion if you're shifting from console to PC for these games. Drop a few bucks on a wireless keyboard & mouse. You can make your big screen the video output for your PC and still sit back on the couch to enjoy a game.
    Best of luck. The user interface from the 90s is janky. Here's a tip you won't get in-game. When transferring large numbers of items in inventory screens, be it ammunition or caps, you can enter the amount numerically on the keyboard/keypad instead of just holding down the arrow to transfer them one at a time. It'll save you hours in the long run.
    Also, these are 90s games. They're much more FAFO than modern games. Get used to the idea of reloading a save because you died...again.

    Fallout 1 and 2 is for adults that can tell the difference between facts and fiction. Fallout 3 and 4 are teenager friendly. Fallout New Vegas is in between.

    Good call starting with 1 . I started with 2 when it came out way back when , and that was one of my favourite games , and kinda still is really , although the last time I played either 1 or 2 was probably about 10 years ago or so on my second playthrough of both.
    Fallout 3 , NV and 4 are good games in their own right (haven't played 76) , but 1 and 2 are different than the rest. I liked the stories , the atmosphere and the overall feel / vibe of 1 and 2 a bit more than the later games.
    Oh and btw there is also Fallout Tactics. I had played that one a bit , but never really got through it. I think that one was focused more on the Brotherhood of Steel side of things.
    Now I'm feeling like I'm gonna have to go play some fallout again 😁

    If you want the best Lore-centric experience, start with the original Fallout, and work your way forward. This way, you will understand a lot more of the easter eggs and terminal references as you go, instead of trying to retroactively tie it all together in your head.
    Also, skipping 1 and 2 misses some of the very best storystelling in the franchise. What they lack in modern graphics, they make up for with rich storytelling, because they *had* to.

As if transgenders would even be a thing in a post apocalyptic future, or the notion that the Brotherhood of Steel would give a single flying eff about gender affirming language.

    I've never played the Fallout series. Now that its got my curiosity, I am going to try it. Many have said to start the series with a later game but with me I like to start at the very beginning so I am going to start with the very first one. I like seeing how a franchise get its start and this is the best way how. I've also played PC games way back when I had an IBM 286 PC and the way consoles are going nowadays I may return to PC gaming since I have many more options compared to consoles. Great video discussion.

    Depends on what time investment you want to put into the games as well. Playing all the way up from the first game is potentially a huge amount of hours. Personally I'd just start at Fallout 4 because it's an immense game and I'm a pretty casual gamer. You could always read up on the lore.

    I was gonna play all of them but, ultimately, there are too many good games in my backlog and too little time. I played 1 so I could at least understand the inception of the series and it honestly was a transformative experience. That game was fundamental for the trajectory of future cRPGs.
    I tried a bit of Fallout 2 but the “chosen one” angle was way too overdone from the beginning and so I stopped playing it. Many months later, I will soon start my fallout experience again with New Vegas and then wait for Fallout London.

    I've played video games since the time of pong, and have loved Fallout since Fallout 3. As a matter of fact, I just logged off 76 half an hour before this video popped up in my feed. My two cents:
    Fallout 1 and 2 - I just can't do it. I would have been all over them when they first released (I passed them over at the time in favor of D&D flavored fantasy fare), but now the graphics and gameplay are just too ancient for my tastes. And for me, the first person model of the game is what it is all about...feeling alive in the world. Don't worry about playing them, it doesn't start to get real good until 3...IMHO.
    Fallout 3 - Excellent starting point, but still not necessary. My favorite geographic setting so far, but...
    Fallout New Vegas - Certain fanboys of a purist type strain insist this is the Mangnum Opus. Not for me. I can almost stomach the western mojave setting, but something about this dated version will not allow me to get more than half way through until I ask myself why I am not playing the superior version (in my opinion) instead of wasting time with this. Again, just can't do it, apparently.
    Fallout 4 - The best. Not without flaws (playing the same damned story lines gets on my nerves. Makes me want to kill Shawn as soon as I pop out of the vault) but, and this will be a contentious issue for certain types, the addition of building your own settlements was the best idea Bethesda came up with for the series. Why? It was the first serious step in immersion....creating your own identity and building in the world around you.
    Fallout 76 - Again, I don't care for the West Virginia country vibe at all. And both 3 and 4 were better stories by far. However, you can still build your home in this, and more importantly, it is the only game in the franchise that is built to let you play with (or against) friends. That is the draw. It was garbage on launch, but very much worthwhile now, provided you are into the whole fallout thing and want to do it with friends.
    Again, I've been gaming a LONG time now. I heard of the series when it launched, but dismissed them because I wasn't into the post-apocalyptic genre. Then I tried 3 on a lark, and have been hooked ever since. To my surprise, if I cannot say that 4 is my favorite game of all time, then I can at least say that Fallout is my favorite game series, hands down. If you're coming in off the tv series, you're in for a treat with the games. But I think Clayton is right, do the games before the series if you still have the option. If you want a simple start without going the lore-obsessive route that Clayton is set on...start with 4 and continue on with 76. Then you too can become a clown like me, juggling Skyrim and Starfield, always returning to Fallout. Cheers!

    Clayton, my suggestion is to start with Fallout 3 and get the lore from Fallout and Fallout 2 by watching Oxhorn play them on RUclips. He has walkthrough videos for both games where you can learn all the lore and 'experience' the games without having to go through the hassle of trying to play a old pc game on a modern pc. Watch Oxhorn and you will know All the lore because he will make a point of referencing it.

    @2:27 If you are part of the PC master race, you can start anywhere and save a lot of money doing so, do to regular discounts. 😘🤗 The market for console games coincides with the collectors market and physical copies are scarce, so expect to pay at least 50% to 100% more for it. 🤔 Unless you think of the Steam Deck as console, then you benefit from the discounts, too. 🤷‍♂ I started with Fallout 4 and in hindsight it is the most accessible for newbs. If you are a hardcore roleplay enthusiast and love the original lore, you probably won't like it because that isn't the focus of the game.
    @6:10 As a console peasant, you could use a Steam Deck to play it or a half decent laptop with APU would suffice.😘🤔
