I appreciate how comprehensive your guides are. As another long time rogue player, it quickly becomes very obvious how experienced you are with the class, and with the different specializations. There is little doubt that everything you mention has been carefully considered and tested.
I'm definitely a guy who spends "excess" combo points on Eviscerate fairly often. I've mostly been playing assassination but I've been enjoying combat lately and like to be flexible. Had a few really good parses in my last 2 weeks playing combat but when I try it again I'm definitely going to want to try doing fewer Eviscerates and considering the approach of an extra Sinister Strike (or two) as an energy dump to keep the better abilities going instead. Thanks so much for making such an excellent in-depth guide! Even real veteran rogues can learn a few things here.
Man, i've just started getting into combat rogue and trying to master it for the current icc phase. Your guide helped me a lot. Thanks a lot for this in depth insight into this amazing class and spec. Much appreciated!
HOLY SHNIKEYS!!! You have totally crushed this! This changes how I play for sure! I was at maybe 2.5k dps before watching this. I'm going to come back, after applying some changes and practicing this for a few days, and post my new dps in a comment below! This is a very under-educated topic in WoW! The rogues that I know that are top DPS don't really articulate how they do anything, except in vague generalities that are too rare to correlate with any real holistic approach. You should get paid for this kind of content!!!
Really appreciate the video! Personally I swapped to combat in week 2 due to the state of warrior and I haven't looked back, but listening to your breakdown helped to put some of the feelings I've had over phase 1 in perspective. Looking forward to the next video!
I have been combat since start of classic and i can tell everyone here that what simon says in this video is 100% facts. I would like to say that in the case that you dont have to expose eviscerate will be used even if it's not the most efficient, you can also vanish garrote provided you dont lose too much time between autoattacks(use proper macros to avoid stain stealthed more than an instant). but yeah 10/10 as always simon gg
I'm taking a couple of pointers here from the god. Especially with glyphs and finishing moves, gonna be huge difference in rotation on opening raid night. Thanks
Great guide, just wanna add some tips for the afterphase of the killing spree - do not use immediately AR because durring the KS energy will be restored so spam few Sinister strikes and after this > AR. This should result in even better energy management :)
love the content but as a combat rogue main eviscerate can be used quite often if you can manage your snd and rupture well, if you want to squeeze in some eviscerates Sinister Strike glyph helps a shit ton can check out my logs if you dont believe me (Croless).eviscerate can be squeezed in for that extra dps boost for parsing losing a few seconds on rupture is alright if you got a 4 or 5 point evis in. Especially during opener with all icd and cds ticking and if you have a warrior with shattering throw ive had evis crit for 11k on opener but obviously its minmax and if you wanna play safe stick to maintaining snd and rupture
Informative video as alwaya Disagree about armor pen; going from 99 to 100 percent armor pen is roughly two times the multiplier that going from 0 to 1 percent armor pen is - which is to say armor pen really does become much better as you stack it
Hi Simonize, thanks for your videos, they are trully helpfull. I would love if u make some video talking about the UI addon configuration, your seems really cool. tyvm! keep the nice work mate
Hey mate! Nice video!! How do you recommend the usage of fan of knives? Use it doing bladeflurry, or is evicerate better? Use it in aoe when BF is on cd, or just do SIngle target
Question if you're willing to answer: I recently boosted a rogue on tuesday. I have needle encrusted scorpion and battlemaster's 256 AP trinket. I'm about to get my Death's Verdict from scourgestones. Should I factor in the needle encrusted scorpion into making a decision on which trinket to use with death's verdict? If i factor in the attack power conversion of armor pen from needle encrusted scorpion, it seems to be better than the 256 attack power battlemaster's trinket. Think needle encrusted scorpion is the better choice to use with Death's Verdict?
love youre content bro, always have, helped me a lot. BUT my question is how do you still raid naxx over and over after all these YEARS AND YEARS, dont you get bored of naxx?
Sweet vid. What would you recommend if I still got a fist MH with a sword from Ulduar OH, Is it best if I just stay with Webbed Death for Close Combats? Or Sword OH w/ Close Combat. Can’t imagine respecting HnS would be worth it with just 1 sword.
Thanks for the detailed guide. This is huge for all the people who gonna switch to combat for Ulduar progression. One question i have is why you would not get a huge Expose Armor (5x Combo Points + Glyph) in the beggining of the fight. Would that be a huge dps loss because of the initial trinket procs or whatever?
Expose is now a flat percentage armor reduction, regardless of combo points. The additional combo points only extends the timer the debuff is applied to the boss.
Definitely gonna tone down my evis usage, barring bf situations ofc. Curious on your thoughts about vanish garrotte when you have plenty of energy [ie shortly after ar with all your finishers up and running at full. Any good at all? Only when we have some big ap procs active? Only in situations where we need to dump our threat? Or just never at all-vanish and auto attack/ss our way out of stealth if vanish is needed?
I'm also curious about this. Something I've never thought of but it sounds like maybe it could be good with a proc or something as a bonus dot. Not sure how the numbers work out.
The Slice and Dice & Rupture glyphs sim a bitter higher for me. If you're using these, does it effect the rotation or how many points to use those abilities?
I think the point of not using them is that zou have enough CP to maintain a rotation without them. With them, you should have excessive CP which you will be forced to use on stuff like eviscerate which Simonise doesn't recommend to use, most likely because rupture surpasses armor, while eviscerate's damage is modified by armor, therefore needing armor pen. Plus on top of that you could be using better glyphs that actually give you dps boost like being able to use killing spree twice during 1 fight, giving someone else 4 more seconds of extra damage every 30 seconds or feint costing you nothing where in Ulduar there is stuff like tantrum where feint halves the amount of damage you take from it. Also feint being free has a chance to proc poisons.
Hi ! Would u consider using a 1.40 daggers off hand over a 1.5 sword on combat during current phase ? Hack and slash only procs for main hand right ? Have a good one
I believe Simon when he says to try to use expose with one combo point. I understand why in the beginning but after that I'm not sure the mechanic is it just the most efficient low combo point spell to use so you can get up bigger snd and ruptures?
I still don't get hit rating...My rogue has 256 hit rating but, when I hover over it, it says 7.81%. And for spell hit rating it says 256 with 9.76%. So your saying I need that to say 17%?
I've been playing combat rogue (new player) and been kicked out of dungeons because of low dmg which suck but ive been trying my best .( Undead with dual swords)
Hey, Simonize! Thank you for a great job. I have a question about Eviscerate. Will it be a good ability to spam (with SnD + Rupture up) in phase 4 with ARP cap, Imp. Eviscerate talent and glyph?
sounds like a bad idea to remove a glyph that is already giving you a dps increase, then remove talents that are already giving you a dps increase, all just to make a bad ability that you don't want to be casting into a slightly less bad ability
Great video, thanks! At 6:05, I can see on the right of the screen that you are aware of incoming Trick of the trades buff from other rogues. What is the addon please?
11:07 I was under the assumption that the optimal combo point value for Slice and Dice was 3 or 5 due to these values adding on an extra second relative to the previous combo point jumps.
Hey Simon, what is your WA that tells if you aren't close enough to the boss, and what addon do you use to change between your weapon sets right below your energy bar? Great video. I'm a ret main that is volunteering to play combat rogue to help our raid. I'm excited to learn more!
Hey simonize , there’s a few weapon combos that is hybrid that is worth it if owned , I know this is an old video but hey figured to mention it as I’m sure even when other phases come it will be another option
So 4 combo point ruptures are worth it? Or do you build to 5 if you have snd and ea up? If you rupture on 4 with those up and you maintain then and have access energy is that when you stack to 5 for rupture?
How much of a dps loss is it for a combat rogue to use wound poison? There are a lot of bosses in ulduar where you need minus healing, is a combat rogue a good canidate for applying this debuff?
Use WP with a weapon swap on your 2nd best, slowest wep. Apply it with a single melee hit after swap then swap back to your normal IP weapon. There is only 3 fights (4 if your group is terrible at vezax)when u need a WP: freya P2, IC p3, YS p3. The most important is as a rog YS p3 AOE on adds when u r doing 1 keeper or less.
@@Axeligal tooltip says wound poison only lasts for 15 sec, isnt that way to often to switch weapons which triggers a gcd? I thought you apply WP to the Offhand and trigger it with Shiv or is deadly poison too strong?
Nice guide dude! Ill be switching from assassination to combat fist weapons and I have a question on which weapons to use from what I have. Currently have 2 fist weapons, Greed and Crimson Steel which are identical in speed and DPS but vary in stats. For the offhand I have the Avool Sword of Jin which is 1.5 speed and Namlaks Sticker Dagger / Omen Ruin Dagger which are both 1.5 speed. This is all entirely new to me could I also go with the Greed and Crimson Steel equipped or better go to go with one of the 2 offhand weapons that I have? Any help would highly be appreciated!
Wondering what the dps difference between blood spatter and doing ruptures, vs making 3 pts in imp eviscerate, getting the 10% crit glyph, and abandoning rupture if you dont have 4 pc.
So If I got slice and rupture going , and rupture will run out in 10 seconds, I wont spend them vor devestate , I just will use sinister to not cap energy ?
all the addons and weakauras can be found on the discord in the #addons-weakauras channel. the discord is linked in the video description. that part of the rogue weakaura pack.
I don’t get why eviscerate is so bad. For 5 combo points it’s 3200 damage but rupture is only 2700 damage over 16 seconds. Eviscerate seems like a no brainier
because in a talent tree you need to spend a certain number of talent points to progress to the next tier of talents, you can't just put them anywhere you want
Im curious if a rogue can get benefit from both hack and slash as well as close quarters combat since in phase 2 we get so much hit over the regular cap with the bis gear, would be worth moving those precision talents?
the only place you can really CHOOSE your stats is your gems and in that case you are gemming attack power. when it comes to equipment, you should usually be choosing whatever item has the MOST stats on it, rather than what PARTICULAR stats it has.
So, your glyph recommendation tool almost always has glyph of feint, but then you don't mention ever using feint. How would you fit that into your rotation?
In Assassination is very easy, you pretty much use it on CD, you ideally Feint within your Envenom buff. For me i normally Envenom at 60-70 energy, so i go Envenom>Mutilate>Feint>Mutilate (all within envenom buff) In Combat is harder to use as you are managing Slice and Dice, Rupture and maybe Expose. So you probably use it whenever you can (no energy for something else) or right before a boss mechanic that might hurt.
agility only gives one point of attack power per point, plus some critical strike chance and dodge chance. for gems you can get 2 attack power in an attack power gem for every 1 agility. its just better to get the 2 ap
I dont agree i have played combat for long time, and armor pen after the HIT rating is key stats for the combat rouge considering most of your damage are white damage, but this should not come at the cost of losing AP and CRIT, All combat rouge will eventually want to achieve near 1400 armor pen and u will see dps boost.
