I have a basic theory knowledge, I think my best piece of knowledge I have learnt is knowing the notes on the neck and where they repeat themselves. Once I learnt it’s 12 notes in different combinations that’s scales and patterns or played at the same time/ chords it made everything easier
@@DUNN.. good tip. That's been a big part of my progress lately. Just knowing where the friggin' notes are. Started by just learning where E was, then where the other open strings' notes were everywhere. Learned the other open strings notes across the board and focused on scales. That helped me realize how many scales can be easily memorized now, as Cmaj/Amin is really only 1 note different from Emin/Gmaj, and that's helped me visualize the fretboard way better now.
You definitely start to notice the slight variations and how things are repeated. Then it comes down to how you want to express yourself rhythmically which then leads to the strength of your picking hand and coordination of your fretting hand
