    Wow great video! I have an early 70's Chevy 12-bolt posi and the actual axle housing end where the bearing press into is worn to the point where you can just reach in and pull the bearing out by hand. I can see the wear on the lower axle tube opening where the bearing is moving up and down inside the housing. Installing a C-Clip Eliminator kit would solve this problem without having to do something else like cut the axle tube ends off and weld on the Ford 9 inch bearing kit that some guys do, only problem with that is axle alignment has to be perfect. I think this way is a much better fix for my situation. Thanks for the video it helped a lot.

    I’ve been following your series on this. I’m fixing to do a rearend rebuild on the 8.5 10 bolt in my dirt track camaro. Your videos have helped me on this. Was also thinking about doing videos on it also and some other stuff I do with my racing. Was curious what app or video editor you used for your videos?

    Nice vid! I plan on doing this axle on my C10. Do you have a list of the axles and parts that you used?

    Awesome video thank you for the information I’ve been considering this for my cutlass, after reading some reviews there’s talk of leaking gear oil into the brakes after heating up making it not good for the street , have you had any issues with this ?

    9.5" semi float 6 lug for the win.

      What does it win? It’s still c-clip axle that still needs eliminators to run at tracks that require positive axle retention.

    Just came across your channel and enjoy the videos. What did you use for grease for the bearings on the eliminators just normal wheel bearing grease you'd use on the front tapered bearings in a front rotor?

    Bolt on axles is a wise decision. However, you already know C-clip eliminator are junk and leak. I would have used a Dana 60, 35 spline axles with a powerlock and Ford big bearing ends. With 1350 yoke. Check the housing out on a lathe and straighten if necessary, then shorten. We don't butt weld ends to the tubes. We machine the tube and end to a press fit. Then, v weld together. Afterwards, we place the dial indicator on the axle brake flange surface and rotate housing to insure it is zero.

    I'm torn between upgrading my 10 bolt like you as I have had bad luck since changing the ring & pinion in it orrr ima just swap a 14 in. I got a 2000 Sierra with 6.0. Curious, hows your rear differential holding up since your replacement of the internals? Thanks

    • @uglymechanics6599
      @uglymechanics6599 4 года назад

      Just swap a 14 bolt in. They made them with 6 lug aswell in early 90's. 10 bolts are a complete waste of time

    • @angiesmith9196
      @angiesmith9196 4 года назад

      The 6 lug 14 bolt is only a semi float so kinda defeats the purpose

    C-clip eliminators are not designed for street use and will wear at an extremely accelerated rate when used on the street.

    • @AllieCatCustoms
      @AllieCatCustoms  2 года назад

      I haven’t tried, and I’d guess that would depend on how the caliper bracket bolts to the housing.

  • @OldGriz708

    Why would you go through that much work only to keep the drum brakes?

    • @rrz464
      @rrz464 4 года назад

      Disc Brake kits for C-clip eliminators are very few and far between. I am running into the same issue with my 12 bolt. Only kit I have found is from Wilwood for about $700 starting.

    • @AllieCatCustoms
      @AllieCatCustoms  4 года назад +1

      because the truck really is only used at the drag strip, or cruising at low speeds in town (usually less than 55mph). when I get around to building a Ford 9", it will have disc brakes, but for this build, disc brakes is a wasted expense. the truck will stop well from 110+mph at the track without issues even with non power brakes.

    • @erniew5805
      @erniew5805 4 года назад +1

      stopping with drums is not a problem .this is true except for repeated hard brake usage as in road racing. the repeated use leads to drum expansion and brake fade. a big reason for factory disc brakes is much cheaper fewer parts. simpler also no need to take a picture to get the discs back on right.

    All this work for a 10 bolt what a waste of time. Put a 9” in it and call it a day

    • @AllieCatCustoms
      @AllieCatCustoms  2 года назад +3

      Gee, well isn’t that a novel idea that I never thought about 🤦🏻‍♂️. I was going to build a 9”, but I had a deadline to get the truck running for a certain event, and I didn’t have the time/money to build the 9” I wanted to build by then, so I built the 10 bolt, made videos of the build, and said I’d see how long it would last. Well, so far it’s holding up great, after a few years, with about 15,000 miles of street driving, and a couple hundred passes under its belt. I will eventually build a 9” if this 10 bolt dies, but until then, I’ll keep enjoying my waste of time.
