    Still cannot BELIEVE Gone Girl wasn’t nominated. It was my fave movie of the year so I woulda given it everything but the screenplay was the best aspect for sure.

      Gone Girl was so disrespected at the Oscars in 2015. Only 1 nomination for Pike is just crazy. Not getting into Best Picture, Director, Editing, Actor, Supporting Actress, Cinematography, Score and Adapted Screenplay is just ridiculous. The movie made almost $400M at the box office and is sitting at 88% on RT smh.

    You make a good point that The Imitation Game was “safe” and “well-made,” but the same could be said about Call Me By Your Name. Ivory’s adaptations completely sanitizes Aciman’s novel, omitting the bulk of its erotic content and dialing down Elio’s hysterical neuroticism.

    • @gauravw6947

    • @vibescentral5992
      @vibescentral5992 3 месяца назад

      I don’t think his neuroticism was dialed down, rather I think it’s just harder to understand what Elio is thinking since movies are more visual. I do agree that a lot of the erotic content was omitted, such as the poop scene (I don’t think it would have fit as well in the movie)

    The first half of Argo is brilliantly written and Alan Arkin has a couple of killer lines. Then the film becomes rather conventional.
    Jojo Rabbit, on the other hand, is a film that I consider virtually impossible to make, a perfect combination of parody and drama about a child who wants to conform to a sick society (my favorite adapted script of the decade).
    We can all agree on Sorkin, he is the heir to Paddy Chayefsky (who he actually mentions in his acceptance speech) but his latest scripts are not that good.

    I really like your commentary in these videos, even when I disagree. As someone who has been teaching for 25 years I must say I disagree with your praise of "Whiplash." The movie purports to be about a great teacher, but no great teacher uses intimidation and fear (and violence) to bring out the best in a student. A lot of people walked away from the film thinking it was saying something profound about teaching, but it wasn't. It was saying something false.
