This is my final Arcane cover of 2021! More OST covers coming in 2022!
LYRICS:
Dear friend across the river
My hands are cold and bare
Dear friend across the river
I'll take what you can spare
I ask of you a penny
My fortune it will be
I ask you without envy
We raise no mighty towers
Our homes are built of stone
So come across the river
And find... The World Below.
It was amazing collaborating with you!! Thanks for having me on your channel ✌🏼
Are you going to do a cover on “Revenge” as well?
Samuel: This is my last, last, last, last arcane cover, I swear! (Not complaining)
All of you are incredibly talented. Thankyou for sharing these talents with us.
Last cover of December 14th 2021? Or all of 2021? 😁
On my second watch of the show, I realized Jinx was humming this melody in ep 7 as she was walking on the bridge before the Ekko fight.
Yeah that's such a powerful parallel. The enforcers that were executing her parents on that same bridge are now the ones being executed in cold blood by the revengeful daughter.
@@Nata-ch2bk PIltover has no one else to blame but themselves for the monster they created.
@@lockekappa500 Actually Piltover enforcers only gave Powder trauma, the rest of her Jinx qualities was created from Zaun.
@@GrandmaNUT You mean the Zaun that is a wasteland of poverty because of Piltover's neglect?
@@lockekappa500 there are many "What if's" in this story and such remarkable and at the same time heartbreaking. I understand piltover's side but what if they just show equality and care towards zaun everything would've been different. Zaun wouldn't have to feel resentful to piltover, their lives and environment would have been better and the story wouldn't go downhill by the end of the ep 9. The ending was expected how jinx became jinx but it was truly heartbreaking that everyone's decisions neither good or bad leads consequences and different path 😭😭😭. I love Arcane because when you watch it you can feel the feelings of each character and can relate to them. This is what interesting about arcane because they made the audience feel that the characters are like us and it felt human.
I didn't notice that before, but I love the detail, that Powder doesn't really react to her parent's deaths. She doesn't understand anything that happened here. But she looks up to her sister and sees her breaking down in tears for some reason, so she gets sad too and hugs her.
she was too young to understand, heartbreaking
This behaviour carries to episode 3 when she talks to Vi in the alley. She sees Vander, but does not linger, then accidentally sees Claggors blood stained goggles, again doesn't linger. Then she focuses on Vi and she reacts to Vi's despair.
You really want us to cry now
i think she’s just so attached violet and she doesn’t want to risk loosing it
Tbh I've thought about this and I don't think she didn't understand but she tried to match her sister as a natural behavior like she was more than her sister, she was her leader too. It was more Vi's moment as she is the older sibling that actually had to protect her sister. She understood but it was an even greater shock to her to see Vi's expression as the world seemed to end and she was so little yet. She was a little girl seeking to grow, and something terrible happened and felt like fatality
Arcane: opens with a brutal emotional gut punch.
Viewers: Damn, what a way to start a series.
Arcane: but wait, there's more!
Viewers: Damn, what a way to finish a series.
Riot: but wait, there's more! (season 2 announced).
Arcane: opens with a brutal emotional gut punch.
Viewers: Damn, what a way to start a series.
Arcane: wanna see me do it again!?! (episode 3 start)
i just want to hold everyone in this show in my arms ;(
Dear god
Arcane beat us all up emotionally just like Vi beat up Sevika physically.
Vander's realization , seeing how his rebellion failed, the only change being the loss of life, two young kids becoming orphans...
A moving scene
Yes that was kinda sad. 😕
it is interesting to see how the value of the world changed, if every rebellion stopped with dead parents then the world would still be ruled by monarchs
It's an unfortunate fact that most revolutionary movements that resort to violence tend to become consumed by it.
@@astratan2238 i think it has to do with the fact that at the start of revolutionary when the revaluation is at is hardest stages that is struggling to keep it self alive, what you have are people who truth believe in the cause, but as it pick up momentum you are starting to get opportunist who want to use the revolution to further their own interest. That is when violence hits exponential high, because if the revolution is well ordered the opportunist is not going to get more than the past status quo, they use violence to create chaos so that they may benefit from the lack of rule, and enforcement.
He realized the price of freedom cost too much. “No one wins in war, Vi…”
1:24 It's really sad how Vi looks directly at her parents' bodies and feels sadness, while Powder looks to Vi and starts to feel sadness. It shows that Powder is immensely attached to Vi. It's identical to how young children look to their parents when they fall down. When the parents panic when their child falls, the child panics as well because their feelings are not developmentally independent of their parents' yet. Thus, Powder looks to Vi for validation of her feelings which indicates her attachment towards Vi. On a side note, Vi is pretty young herself so having her bear this burden breaks my heart as well :(
Ohhhhhhhh this made me sad. 😭
It seems to me that a part of Powder's insecurities lie with Vander. Violet was clearly his favorite--his protégé. He built up Vi's confidence and molded her into the leader he hoped would take his place. It seems as though he never really paid much attention to Powder who clearly needed it more; maybe it was largely because he couldn't relate to her since she didn't show similar interests to him. I really cant blame him though it seems as though he had the cares of lanes thrown at his feet; he was probably doing the best he could given the circumstances. I am curious how both girls will react when Vander, "The Hero of the Lanes," comes back as the near mindless beast Warwick.
@@TheAdultdiapers I am also curious that how will they react when Vander will be back, as Warwick. Will they recognize that Vander is back.
@@happi9728 From what I understand from the lore. Warwick has little memory of his past just a girl screaming what he assumes is a name. Warwick is left mindlessly killing people in Zaun; however, as he kills he starts to have flash backs of his past. He eventually goes from indiscriminately killing to focusing on criminals. The lore tells us he was "...a gangster that laid down his sword and took up a new name to live a better life." In the game he has special dialogue with Jinx and Vi hinting that he was Vander. A lot of his lore is open to interpretation; it will be interesting to see where the writers take it.
@@TheAdultdiapers ohhhhh😮
The River and The Bridge have significant importance in Arcane. The River is where the old Silco died, betrayed by Vander who he considered a brother. The Bridge is where Powder's innocence first began to fade in the aftermath of the civil war there, and Powder ultimately "died" there, too, years later.
It's all just water under the bridge
The river is also where the minions meet and where the mid lane goes during laning phase.
Why did Vanderbilt Betty silco
“Oh I hated you for what you’ve done. But as time passed, so did my hate. And I was left with an understanding. The only way to defeat a superior enemy is to stop at nothing. To become what they fear. I hated you, but you kept my respect" - silco
but, the oceans of arcane will be scoured with blood, blood of silco's enemies
Silco is one of the characters that has amazing qoute 😊👏
This quote is so telling of Silcos strategy for independence. The cultivation of Jinx and the Hextech missile launcher and shimmer struck fear into Piltover. Even though Piltover could destroy the undercity, they fear the devastation that Zaun could deliver.
I really hated him for killing vander but gaddammit hes such a well written character you cant help but end up rooting for him and his nefarious endeavours.
@@imarock8763 He is charismatic, but Hittler kind of charismatic, he did horrible crimes and people just support him because of his pretty speeches.
The only person who made Silco stop his ruthless plan to take over Piltover is his beloved daughter, Jinx 😢

When The fucking FIRST Scene hit harder than some others entire shows, is without doubt a UNIQUE stuff...
To me this show is the greatest that I have ever seen
Legit. I almost teared up in the first 2 minutes of a show I knew nothing about, all because of the music and the visual storytelling. Masterful shit
Was thinking the same thing. For example, The Rings of Power cost something like half a billion and was a complete and utter travesty in terms of, well, everything. The opening moments of Arcane had more emotion, character, atmosphere, world building, drama and foreshadowing than that entire show had in over 8 hours, and all this without a single line of dialogue spoken or written apart from Powder's song. How is that contrast even possible?
@@steve_ire321 I don't know either, i think while something is a Masterpiece, other stuffs are just too poor in the artistic way, so the contrast is even more crazy xD
@@bombaster3168 One is based on a man's work spanning over a life time of meticulously researched and detailed lore pulled from thousands of years of real life cultures and history. The other is based off of some made up nonsense from a shit mobile phone game. How the two ended up being light years apart in terms of quality is up there with some of the greatest mysteries in the known universe. Well, that's a slight exaggeration on my behalf. We all know the reason: talent, or lack of.
OK. 2:46. That drawing of Vi and Powder grown up in Vander's arms breaks my heart even more. What Could Have Been.
Same. It hit me right in the heart when I saw it.
Right?!
The lyrics of this song were really well thought-out. It's the song a Zaunite would write to try and appeal to the sympathy of someone from Piltover. To have Powder singing this really adds to the immersion of the wonderful world they crafted.
Also says what you need to know about Vi and Jinx's life was before the Vander took them in. Begging and survival by all means.
So it is not hard to see why their parents fought with Vander for a chance of something better for their children.
All that context from the first few seconds of a show without any exposition spoon-feeding the audience is a testament to the quality.
plainlake Yup, and later reinforced when we see Powder and Vi’s families lived in one of the poorer districts of Zaun
You can even relate it to this in real life.
The divide between the rich and the poor.
@@plainlake Yeah it broke my heart especially when Vi said she wanted something better for Powder.
I doubt that most Zaunites would sing this song, it's too pleading and empathetic and I imagine they're mostly much too angry for that.
But I can imagine it being a thing, probably at least a few optimistic Zaunites might write a song appealing to their better natures....not that it would work easily
You know that enforcers killed their parents, resulting in orphaned kids, but did you notice that later Jinx's actions kills Marcus, leaving his daughter an orphan (from what we can tell). This show has some many beautiful parallels and it is a reason why this is one of the most beautiful shows.
What I love about this song is its duality. From the Zaunite side, it sounds like a humble plea for kindness that goes unanswered. From the Piltover side, it sounds like an ominous siren song to lure people to their doom.
My grandfather just passed, and even though this song doesn't have anything to do with it. It reminds me of his stories about his childhood, and the things he tried to impart in us so we would never have to experience them. Thank you so much for creating this cover, its helping me let out emotions.
You'll be right. May he rest well, and may you live his teachings and your life to the fullest.
May his soul belong be to where he pleased.
May the life guide you through this hard time.
May you grow stronger for him who passed away.
From a friend who never know you.
I lost my great aunt last year, and it’s hard to spend Christmas this year knowing that she’s gone. Losing a loved one isn’t easy, but we can make it a little easier by surrounding ourselves with people who care, my god bless you and your family during this difficult time❤️
I'm sorry for you and I know your pain. Be brave and strong :) It's a beautiful song, it'll compliment your memories :) 🖤
May he rest in peace, I just lost my grandmother, my last grandparent, 4 days ago.
Arcane has one of the best Soundtracks i've ever heard, thank you Kim to Show us how georgeos thoose masterpices are! See you next year with more of Arcane!
Some of the best animation and visuals, too
Arcane is good
Except it’s 2 years, actually
Soz bud wait another year😭😭
I thought some of their choices with modern artists was kind of disjointed from the rest of the show.
Like I thought it was incredibly stupid to have imagine dragons it just show up in the middle of the season as actual characters, and honestly the song really does not fit the show, maybe the lyrics do but the actual sound of the song just does not fit It's close but it just isn't a good fit.
When you realize at the beginning that you are looking though Powder's fingers and that the Enforcer she sees kill the unarmed combatant is literally manifested as a monster...no wonder she hates them so much. Those little details...wow.
I was NOT prepared for the artwork at 2:37... That hit me so hard I almost cried.
Those hands he has, are now of fur and claw
He's all dog now.. its so sad
I love the parallel with this sequence with Powder watching the carnage around her caused by the Pacifiers and Jinx shooting down the Pacifiers while humming the same tune, it's genius!
Enforcers?
@@parisheidi3119 in French they are called pacifier XD
@@viciousaldante9474 ohhh ok sorry, I was confused lol
@@viciousaldante9474 In American English, a pacifier is what is called a "sucette" in French :D
I think the exact moment I realized this show was likely as good as people were saying, was Violet's reaction to seeing her parents.
The predictable shock, followed by the fact she visibly tries to compose herself before her little sibling, before the sheer pain of it all breaks her and she crumbles in tears. A genuine gut punch that despite its intensity couldn't prepare me for the drama to come.
Props to Fortiche Productions. The facial animations in this show are among the most expressive I've ever seen, and Arcane's absolute finest bit of craft IMO.

Oh this scene is so sad😭Vi is trying so hard to keep the tears in, she wants to protect Powder, but then she can't and she just looks so defeated, and Powder doesn't understand what's going on, but she knows that her sister is sad and needs a hug, and it's just so sweet that Powder immediately hugs Vi
Great music, great voice, great artwork 👍
2:40 that artwork is amazing. If only it could have happened in the show 😭
"What could have been" 😔
@@mari-anne *No not again I just stopped crying*
Maybe it does happen in the future... both girls "freed" from their pain during the war that has come from the inevitable continuation of that cycle of violence that started on that bridge or before. When Vi doesn't have to fight anymore... when they both get to come home in the most enduring way possible. Maybe it's better than having to live through more pain, if they die before everything goes even more to sh*t. I want them to be happy while alive though, this song and that image made me cry. "What could have been" is right.
*SAD WHEEZING*
Well Im sure Vander would meet them again in season 2, Though I think it won’t end that well…
Dude when the image of Vander hugging and embracing his two daughters turn me into tears.
When I first watched this scene, I was stunned. I couldn't believe just how much was communicated with absolutely no dialogue whatsoever. So much emotion and storytelling communicated through body language, color and music. This scene is a masterclass in show don't tell.
Best family ever: A wolf man, a warrior sister and the crazy genius one.

-Samuel Kim
At last, he has accepted the truth that he will never be able to stop making them. Taking a break until end of year and start again in 2022. There's no such thing as "Final Cover" for Arcane! XD
Dude, Samuel and Rachel..... this is GORGEOUS!!!!!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥
In the cinematic part. When Vi drops to her knees sobbing, I can 100% feel and relate with her pain of losing her mother and father here.
The expressions and detail is amazing. Very good research into this clearly
I love how Arcane opens up with this... and keeps getting better from there. Hauntingly beautiful cover.
Ooh this had such a starting impact in the show can't wait to hear your cover!!
notice that powder sang this on the first episode of arcane, yet when powder died, so does the song which is symbolized on the start of jinx's final transformation at her fight against ekko. that's why at episode 9, instead of calling for sympathy on piltover, jinx instead destroys it.
idk just thought it out
This song and score, coupled withe the IMPECCABLE facial animation, got me hooked INSTANTLY.
And voice acting. Some raw emotion from the whole cast.
@@plainlake I mean from the very first scene in the show.
With the exception of Powder's singing, it was completely wordless, and I was STILL immediately hooked.
That's the point I was trying to make.
I love this version! It honestly reminds me of “I Am A Poor Wayfaring Stranger”. It sort of has that same calm but haunting melody
When you think about the lyrics it has a profound impact
"No one wins in war, Vi."
-- Vander, the giga chad
These Arcane covers are literally all I’ve been listening too, thank you for making them! 💙💖
The " GoodBye" vibe between the verses you've got going is like another gut punch. Well done!
Seeing older Vi and Jinx hugging Vander makes me sob so much…
That picture of Vandal, Vi and Powder hugging...

Damn....
So much for this is my last arcane cover
Not complaining tho this is brilliant
This soundtrack kinda reminded me of The Hunger Games, I’m not really sure why.
Your cover is really beautiful, this was easily one of the best moments of the whole series.
Oh yeah, I see what you mean
The voice goes well with the soundtrack, Absolutely beautiful!
God I love that artwork of Vander, Violet, and Powder all grown up, its so sad that it will never happen again.

It's like I can't get enough of the Arcane music 😭 I've been listening to your other Arcane covers over and over again and I'm in love with this one. Guess it's time to add this one into my Samuel Kim Arcane music list
OMG the fan art at 2:37!! 😱😱😱 more moving than the entire show itself!
Thank you so much! I was hoping to see your take on this masterpiece. Also, adding "Goodbye" at 2:08 was a nice touch.
But seriously, that short opening really hit so hard.
It would be interesting to learn more about Vi and Jinx’s parents, through a flashback or Vi telling Caitlyn about them during season 2.
One of the most hard hitting opening of a series ever. It just straight away tells you, this is not going to be an easy lighthearted story, but a brutal world full of dangers and differences. All that in 2 minutes of screen time, told only by sound and picture, with no exposition or dialogue whatsoever. This just tells you how amazing Arcane is, not just as an animation, but a full fledged streaming series of its own
I love how the bridge sounded like Goodbye song in the end of the 1st season.
Dear friend across the river

Finally, a worthy cover for an opening song that put some weight into the powerful and emotional violin entry after the lyrics.
Ah yes! The scene that made me wanna give them both a hug. No kid should go through this ever.
Uhh...wasn't the last one the last? Jokes aside we really needed this one can't wait!
“And I swore off Ben & Jerry’s, but then they named a flavor after me.”
Pretty sure the last LAST one was the last but, here we are
The singer has a lovely voice. But I believe the song is most powerful when it's being sung by a little girl.
I don't know who wrote this series but my god they hit all the feels. This music rips your heart, the story tears your soul. I've never played the game but this series has to be one of the best ever made.
The moment I saw this opening i knew shit was gonna be good, and boy was I right. It's one of my favorites animations ever, I can't way for season 2, too bad it's probably gonna take long.
I don't believe how Rachel Hardy only has close to 200K subs. Her voice is literally better than most people in these singing competitions on TV. The covers including this epic one are simply stunning and deserve far more recognition! Let's get her to atleast 3 Million ASAP!🥰🤗👌
Truly amazing. "...the world below" fits in perfectly. Rachel has a wonderful voice!
Had to come back after seeing the recent ad I found on Instagram, Jinx was humming this again.
The vocal is amazing, but I just can't get over how "the world below" doesn't rhyme with "built of stone". I feel like the song is a protest song and the fact that "stone" rhymes with "Zaun" can't be a coincidence.
Slant rhymes are often used in poetry and songs. They jar you out, force you to really notice the word.

Seeing the opening again, and watching Powder's reaction to Vi's emotions, was quite the emotional punch. When I first watched it, I was paying attention to Vi and subconsciously noticed the amazing attention to detail in the expressions. This time I watched Powder, and it was interesting to see that even at her age, her first reaction was to watch Vi and then hug her after she fell to her knees, rather than expect comfort herself.
This was a fucking need
Yes. yes it was.
Absolutely
I've never even played league of legends and this series was the most well written, lovingly made and revolutionary animated picture ive seen in years. The characters were not only relatable on a human level but also amazing role models as male/female/non binary people in a way I've never seen before and I hope continues into the second series. As an adult it's been a good few years since I've felt anywhere near as inspired as I've been by characters like Vi and Vander to be a better friend/sibling/person and help build understanding for people and circumstances different from my own; in an eerily similar disparate and unjust world. Reminded me that no matter how small and insignificant goodness and kindness might seem in our dark world, it's the reason why such actions mean so much and are so greatly needed to make the world brighter; no matter how small or who by. Bravo.
When I rewatched this scene when I started my second watch, I just had to hold in my tears. Same with the scene on the bridge. When she hummed the song, I felt immense pain and sorrow in my chest. Shows that are able to make me feel things, those will always stay in my heart
We all know that it is going to be another masterpiece
I'm really impressed how such a masterpiece managed to go through the middling cultural class used to marvels, MOBA, shonen and such. Arcane is artistic gastronomy given to pigs.
Omg this short made me realize “The Bridge (Dear Friend Across the River)” isn’t on the soundtrack, I was like “wait there’s a song missing” but nope I was in the wrong.
Also I never skip dynasties and dystopias, I literally replay the whole scene in my head when listening to it🤌🏼🤌🏼

Very powerful. That was so sad to see the opening first time but now...omg...with this beautiful voice and powerful instrumental music my heart is broken. Again.
Now I'm afraid to rewatch Arcane in 5th time. I want it so much but I feel that there aren't any emotions left. I gave all. I'm epty. How one dude said: welcome to the post-Arcane depression.

Why is this so good?!?!😭😭
Powder singing this song really emphasize that this song has been sung so much that even a kid her age would know it. The situation in Zaun is so bad it show even through their folklore.
Absolutely amazing, as all your covers are. Been waiting for this track as it hit a chord with me the second jinx started humming it the second time one of her family members crossed the river.
I was waiting for this and it's awesome!
Thanks Samuel for the great covers for Arcane. Also, Rachel's voice really fits this song.
