Gravel driveway maintenance - Filling the ruts!

  • The Kubota B2601 and Land Pride box blade are the perfect combination to repair a washed out gravel driveway. I use the Land Pride BB1254. Because our driveway is lower than the road and fairly steep we get a lot of water flowing during heavy rains which tends to move a lot of rock. There are many uses for a box blade but it really shines when you need to repair a rutted driveway.

Oh my gosh! That's a good looking driveway! And I'm sure you already know you have everything you need to fix your wash out problem. Great job and video! Enjoyed it!

Nice job. I tilt my box blade to give me a little crown in the center and then again on the edges. I think I get a better run off into the grass doing it that way.

Should use your scarifiers in the ruts and add lime spray it down and compact or roll it

I would definitely put a crown on that driveway

Nice work. But I think I would would cant the angle of that blade and cut a shallow ditch along either side. Might help keep the gravel in place. Done it on my road.

My kids watch other kids play with their toys on you tube and I ask them what they get out of it. Then my 10 year old catches me watching tractor videos and asks “why are you watching other dads play with toys on RUclips, what do you get out of it?” For myself it’s therapeutic.

Nice work! Have you ever thought of putting a swail ditch for the water to run in instead of your driveway? I bet that would help , may need a couple water bars across the driveway as well

For me it's therapeutic to watch LOL. I have a small gravel circle to maintain same issue - more puddling though.

Box blade is great for doing what you're doing with it. If you have a flat blade (snowplow) I'd lower your right side 3 point hitch down & cut a channel on each side of that driveway from the road to the main parking area of the driveway & then use the box blade to put a crown on it. At the rear you could add a French drain with a catch basin at the end of the the channels on each side & run it under the parking area & out the other side where it looks like you got a nice drop off. 👍🏻

Looks like this happens quite a bit. You may need to elevate and camber the drive to shed water as well as create some swale drains to channel the runoff to some pipework across the gravel yard. Good job with the backblade

Box blade is perfect for what you are doing. The water washed a lot of the gravel down the driveway and you are moving it back. Also for rut filling, you can't beat a box blade with a land plane as you can carry fill a long ways. There must be water coming from above the driveway to create that kind of wash. Maybe there needs to be a swale or minor ditch at the top to divert the flow or even a culvert. Hate to see you do this after every rain.
    You were doing everything right.

You are absolutely right. We get a lot of water running right down the road. Bad driveway placement. Eventually I’ll try to fix the cause but it will take a substantial amount of rock to get it done and I’m too cheap to spend the money!

Ever try a land plane? I think that I always need more gravel for my driveway until I get the land plane out and find out I don’t need the gravel. The difference between the land plane and the box blade is night and day.

You need to examine the root of the problem up at the road and focus on fixing that.

Hmm not happy with my land Pride Box scraper, it's just not holding up very well. About 15-20 hours on it and I have a broken tooth and the side walls are bending and welds are starting to crack.

I lost two teeth on first use! Other than that it’s held up through some hard jobs. Originally was going to purchase the back blade then changed to the box blade when I ordered my tractor, very glad I did.

Until you put your hand in the washout i didn't realize how deep it was.

A lot of factual posts here. You need a better base, need to bust up the structure of the ruts and potholes, need to crown the road, you wouldn't believe what a landplane will do for you, and it's looking a little sparse up top there. With the water washing everything downhill, you may want start dragging it back uphill to make repairs. Good video. Some tripod shots from a ways back would be great too. Thanks.

You need a land plane bud. Make one and do a vid...good for the channel--- buy one and do some vids. We don't care what road you take but you NEED a land plane.
