Never thought about turning rake around for a final coat. Will have to give it a try!
💥 Very nice demo on how to use each implement. Enjoy that nice smooth driveway.
Keep on tractoring!
Thanks, Jon! May the tractor be with you!
Good morning DIY! The driveway looks great! Interesting work with the landscape rake - very handy. I don't use large size gravel at all here - only crusher run. The box works great on that gravel. Like new again! Have a great week!
Good morning Gord! The landscape rake was surprisingly effective at doing the final smoothing of the driveway. Yep, the box blade is very versatile and one of my favorite implements. Thanks for watching!
Martin! Sorry to catch up so late been away all weekend! This is great timing! I need to tune mine up before the (eventual) snowfall! Thanks for sharing!
Hi Jay! No worries. Hope you did something fun! Thanks for watching!
Hello! I am new to box blades and just got one today. It looks like it is taking up a huge amount of rock but seems to be distributed evenly. How does taking a whole box full of rock not just move all your rock to the end of the drive way?
Hello there! Set up properly, a box blade shaves down high places and deposits the material in low places, but it has to gather up enough stone first to start working it’s magic. Going back and forth several times is what keeps you from just moving gravel from one end of the driveway to the other. Thanks for watching!
@@DIYMyWay Makes sense to me! Thanks for your helpful information here. Safe operating and enjoy!
From what I heard, Everything Attachments went out of business recently, and before they did, they dropped a lot of orders.
Yep. Very sad too because they made high quality implements. Thanks for watching!
Do you know what the latest on EA is ? Will they hopefully be able to restart ? Was it a malicious folding of the company or just a series of bad choices ? Sad deal for everyone , or was there a bad guy ? Hope people didn’t lose their hard earned money . Thanks for your Channel 🏆👍
Looking good. That box blade does a great job. I think you could pass just fine without the rake and just use the BB.
Thanks, Phil! True, but then I wouldn't have as much seat time. Seat time = Fun time!
I never thought about running the landscape rake backwards does a nice job thanks for the idea nice work.
Hi Dave! Yes, it works great that way. Thanks for watching!
Good evening Sir, great tractor action and looking very good main entrance !!! Cheers !!
Thanks, Dave! Cheers!
Hi, great videos, when you do your landscape rake review, wondering if you can test it out on a sandy beach if you have one near by. If not so be it. Thanks
Hi C M! I don't have a beach anywhere nearby but I do have some sandy-like soil near where I am expanding our pond. I can shoot some video of me raking that. In fact, it would help the area. Would that help you?
How's she goin'? What a difference in the lane eh!! The box blade is a great attachment. I think it was a smart plan to turn the landscape rake around to finish off the grading. I'll have to try that the next time I use my rake. Thanks for the idea. Take care!!!
Hi Mike! Yes, I love the box blade. The landscape rake is surprisingly effective on a gravel driveway. I didn't buy it with that in mind but I'm sure glad I tried it! If it was facing forward it would just drag a lot of stone from one place to another. Turning around makes it spread gravel like a knife spreads butter. Thanks for watching!
That turn out great Martin!! The right tools makes a job so much better! Enjoyed watching! Have a great week!!
Thanks, John! I see you have a new video out. I look forward to watching it tomorrow! Hope you have a great week too!
My driveway goes back to 1948. Any tips on this. The center has grown a long term patch of weed/grass.
It is 3/4 minus. What topper after boxing? Any concrete powder ground in?
That's an old driveway! You can spray RoundUp on the weeds in the middle or just tear them out when you're using a box blade to smooth and dress it out like you saw me do in this video. The gravel on my driveway is also 3/4" or less (#57), but I've since learned not to use anything less than #5 (3/4" - 1") because the stone is big enough to resist washing away. The gravel in front of my shop is #5 and it stay put even on a hill. Much of #57 stone is so small it is easily washed. I've never used concrete powder. Hope this helps!
Hey DIY! Love the video. I don't have a box blade or landscape rake. My Landpride Grader Scraper does the job well for me. I see how much more aggressive the box blade is and it does a great job. It was a difficult choice for me whether to get a box blade or grader scraper. Thanks for this informative video.
Hi Pilgrim! Box Blades are great for driveways and the landscape rake was surprisingly effective for the final smoothing, but scraper blades are pretty handy too. I may have to add one to my collection one day. Thanks for watching!
Hi, nice demo f the usage of rake, it might be hard to get that purchase past my wife. Lol. I still need a box blade and a grapple. Just starting out in Tractor world in our new place next month.
Thanks, Sanjay! A rake is nice to have, but if I had to choose between it and a box blade, I’d choose the box blade. You can do SO much with a box blade. Thanks for watching!
Hello! Good job! When using a blade box, do you use floating mode? How far do the knives protrude from the bottom of the box?
Thanks! No, I don’t have a float mode because I don’t have a top n tilt on my 3 point, but I might get one someday. I have scarifiers all the way up because I never let the driveway get in such bad shape that they are needed. Thanks for watching!
Love this channel. I have just bought the same rig! L3901 HST and the BB1260 . I am kind of scratching my head as to why I let my dealer talk me into the BB1260 when I told him I was perfectly fine spending more money on the BB1560. My NY State driveway looks very similar to yours (although steep in some areas of the 1/2 mile), and I'm glad to see it working well with the 3901.
Thank you, Dave! My channel loves you too! Ah, another L3901 HST owner! You’ll love it. My box blade has served me well. My only regret is not get a 6’ box blade. Other than that, it’s been a very solid and useful implement.
How much land do you have? Im debating if a 2501 is going to be eniugh for what im plan on getting
Hi Chris. I have a little over 17 acres. Whether you get the 2501, 3301, or 3901 really depends on what kind of work you’ll do with it. If you’re going to use rotary mowers, roto tillers or wood chippers, you may find the L2501 won’t have the PTO HP you’ll need, so you might consider getting at least the 3301. Thanks for watching!
Good job with the box blade and landscape rake. Did you review the rake yet? Heard they have a 6 way hydraulic version where rear blade and that rake can be swapped out.
Thanks, Steve! Yes, in fact you timing is superb because I just released that video a few days ago. Thanks for watching!
You guys with trees and grass make me so jealous. I live in the desert. But I don't have to deal with snow. Ever.
Yep, trees and grass but very rarely snow. Best of both worlds. Thanks for watching!
You should think about maybe investing in on off set greater blade , that way you can just set it off to one side and angle it so it pulls everything up from the sides to the center and you can also be able to tilted so you can make a crown in your driveway. Just something for you to think about
Hi Don! I have in fact thought about that. I think Everything Attachments makes one. The offset feature was a must-have for the rake and it would be for a back blade as well. Thanks for watching!
Ripper job on your driveway. I use a grader blade to do mine but i reckon I could do it in half the time with a box blade, might be time to look at getting one. Thanks for showing us your technique.
Thank you, Mark! Box blades are really versatile tools and a good investment, in my opinion. Thanks for watching!
Does low voltage cable not abide by the 2' depth requirement?
Not around here, apparently. Thanks for watching!
My rake bounces and chatters like hell when I flip it around.
Sorry to hear that, Devon. Thanks for watching!
Excellent video. Looking forward to your review of the EA landscape rake
Thank you, Mickey! I should be getting to that video before long.
Great video thanks. How do you keep the road level? I find if there is any small dips or hills the tractor amplifies these like a teeter totter as it moves over them.
Thank you! If sounds like you are suffering from the ripple effect. I recommend you watch this two part video series on DaveKnowsHow: ruclips.net/video/u-YnuI6v4yY/видео.html. He does a great job explaining how to avoid that situation. Thanks for watching!
@@DIYMyWay that was exactly the answer I was looking for. He explained the cause and solution really well
Nice job. If you spread calcium chloride on the areas you have washouts it will form up the stone and stop most washouts. I used to have washouts after almost every rain. Not anymore. The calcium chloride areas are now like concrete.
Thanks for that tip, Philip! I haven’t heard of that but it sounds like it’s worth trying. Thanks for watching!
@JohnDeere Fan because it is snow/ice melting salt (although not rock salt)
That is amazing. How do you know when the drive is to far gone for a box blade? I'm not sure if the stone is to far down in the soil on the drive.
Hi Juliankha! If there was enough stone on it to begin with, the box blade with the scarifiers set low is great for pulling the stone back to the surface. If you do this and don't pull up enough stone, it means you'll need to add more. I have found that #5 stone is best because the stones are big enough (3/4" - 1") to resist washing away. Most of my driveway was done with #57 which is a mix from 3/8" to 1" and all of the smaller stone is easily swept away with a modest flow of water. Good luck and thanks for watching!
@@DIYMyWay I just now saw this. Thank you for the info.
ALWAYS get road working implements wider than the tractor - for the reason you mentioned at 3:50!
whats the deal with the ammo cans ? is that custom added???

Great quality video. Your camera work is wonderful.
Thank you very much!
@@DIYMyWay I maintain about 1 1/2 miles of gravel road for our "subdivision". Until recently, I've been doing it with a 25hp John Deere tractor with a 60 inch box blade.
Two weeks ago, I purchased a 72 in land plane (Kubota GS2072--Kubota actually calls it a grader/scraper. But, regardless of name, it is by far superior to the box blade for the job. It's width allows me to grab the gravel back from the sides and move it towards the middle. And it is so much easier to use--just about drop and go, with no finesse to the 3 pt lever.
Just thought I would share that with you.
did you ever make the review video on the landscape rake? I'm looking to get one and would love to hear more on your opinion of this one. thanks.
It’s been on my list to do, but since you asked, I’ll go ahead and make the video which show off the great features of the EA landscape rake. I love this rake because it’s built like a tank and has the offset feature. Stay tuned and thanks for watching!
Hi JD! FYI, I just released the landscape rake review video. Hope you find it helpful!
@@DIYMyWay thanks. Very good review. Would like to get one eventually.
Wow! Great video and very helpful for me. I have EA box blade and landscape rake. I’m a novice on the driveway maintenance. I can get mine looking pretty good but end up with a lot of excess material from the box - I saw you build up a lot too - what do you do with it?
Thanks, Rich! When I got too much in the box blade I would ease the 3 point up and let it slip out as I kept going forward. Then I’d turn around and go right back over it in the opposite direction. Pulling the scarifiers up and tilting the box blade forward help reduce excess build up. The landscape rake was perfect for doing the final spreading of the gravel evenly over the driveway. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the reply. Really great video that was just what I needed - you have a great channel! Thanks for sharing all the videos.
You are welcome! I hope you’ll share and recommend my channel to others you think might be interested.
Will do.
Nice job. Thanks for the education
Thanks for watching, Tommy!
Are you using your draft control for the box blade?
Yes, I was. It was set toward the lighter side since these are lighter implements and my driveway was fairly smooth to begin with. Thanks for watching!
@@DIYMyWay Gotcha. I’m still learning about draft control and how to use it. This little insight helps.
How long of a distance and how much time did it take to complete what is shown in this video? Thanks, Tim @ Cliffside Acres
Hi Tim! I haven't paced it off but I'd guess it's between 250 and 300 feet. It took about 2 and a half hours. Most of it was spent using the box blade then half hour to 45 minutes using the landscape rake. Thanks for watching!
At first glance, it looked like you needed new crushed stones to get the job done. I am impressed with the result! Great! Thanks!
Hi Joe! Exactly! It looked that way to me too, but I knew from experience that there was plenty of stone there. It just needed to be brought back to the surface. Thanks for watching!
Great Job I will be doing my driveway later after winter more than likely looks great ! Dang with No new gravel ! Great what software do you use for your videos it is awesome !
Thanks, Alan! I use Corel Video Studio Ultimate on a Windows 10 PC. Thanks for watching!
wish I knew about your channel long ago...love seeing equipment at work
Thanks for watching, Jeremy!
I have the landscape box with two blades and it works pretty well on it's own, but I must admit raking it for a final smoothing really makes a big difference. Unfortunately I have a lot of big rock under my gravel and if I do too much I end up getting too many on top. Hopefully eventually after having more gravel put on top a couple more times I may get to where I can go deeper and get better results. Very nice video. I am just starting out and may never get to a rake. I have the land planer, rotary cutter, front loader and a wood chipper. My next high priority item is a grapple. That will happen in the next few months. Great video.
Hi Gary! Yes, I was pleasantly surprised how well the rake dressed up the driveway. Now that you have the driveway tamed with the box blade, you should be able to maintain with your land plane with out digging up the larger stone below. It’s worth a try anyway. Thanks for watching!
Great video. Just found your channel this morning, and loving what I'm seeing.
Off topic question. I saw that the level adjuster on your 3 point was a crank style instead of the the normal one where you turn it by hand. Where did you get it?
Thank you, Dennis! That is called a leveling box and is common on older larger tractors, but not so much on Kubotas and compact tractors in general. I have a video on it that covers where to get it and how I modified it to fit my Kubota (which isn't hard to do). The link to the video is here: ruclips.net/video/1GX1Ii0kqIE/видео.html Thanks for watching!
Nice work.
Thanks, Mike!
Great video , just wondering why you had the rake backwards?
Thanks! I explained it in the video and if you watch the difference of how the gravel behaves between the two, you’ll see I prefer it backwards for top dressing the driveway. Thanks for watching!
@@DIYMyWay Thanks for the response I must of missed it in the video.

Makes me wonder why Ted ,from EA, said in his how-to video on an EA rake, which I have w/leveling wheels, "Don't do that, it's hard on the tines."
Hi David! I can’t imagine how that would be harder on the tines than pulling it forward. It should be far less stress on them than pulling forward. BTW, I’m considering getting the gauge wheels for my rake. Have you found them worthwhile? Thanks for watching!
@@DIYMyWay
Hello, well, in that video they were moving deep sand and heavy debris leveling a previously flooded field.
Love the wheels. They make knocking down the loose high spots and filling the lows a breeze minimizing the spillage out the ends.
Great DIY! I certainly have been learning a lot of tips and tricks from your videos!
Very glad to hear it, Wesley! Thanks for watching!
Fine mighty fine job.
This reminds me that I need to get out and do my driveway.
You're welcome!
I need too as well with my BX before the snow!
Great. Thanks.
Awesome video!
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks, that helps
Thanks for watching, John!
nice job looks great!
Thanks, Dave! I learned a thing or two from your box blade videos!
How deep do you set the rippers on the first pass?
Hi Tim! I set the rippers to the middle position which puts the teeth of the rippers about 1 inch below the bottom of the box blade. Thanks for watching!
DIY My Way I just subscribed to your channel, it's very informative, I have 12 acres that looks similar to your property and my driveway is approx 400' and in pretty rough shape. This gives me confidence that I can fix mine. I just picked up a new LS 4140 with a box blade, grapple, landscape rake and rear blade. Anxious to put it all to work! Thank you for the effort in the videos
Hi Tim! Thanks for subscribing! It sounds like you now are well equipped to fix that driveway and take care of your property. You’ll have lots of fun on that tractor!
Landplane is best for this
Do you own a Harrow?
Hi Michael! No, I do not. Thanks for watching!
Less talk, more tractor work.
If you think that, then this channel is not for you. Move on.
