You actually inspired me to get my 2006 BMW 750Li by watching your Alpina video I was able to get the audio and door chime working again. and slowly getting it back to snuff after sitting for a year. next I have to get the drive belts and valve cover gaskets and of course send the ABS module for repair. Thank you for all you do!
You should seller to Hollywood to LA so they can use it on movies and this is a good idea sell it for 60k to 80k they have money they can use a car like this one be smart

I don’t think your giving Samcrac enough credit. He does solid work and really just shows his skill as a DIY’r. He also finds many shortcuts that work better than OEM. I wouldn’t be afraid to drive anything of his.

As an owner of an upholstery shop i can honestly say you got ripped off on those seats. 3000$ max. Even with top tear leather. And no way in hell would i let anything leave my shop with that puckering, lines that don’t match and he ran over the welt (piping). I hate seeing people over charge for mediocre work.
@@ourback it always gets me angry when other upholsterers over charge. Specially when they do it just because of the kind of car. Like oh is a rolls I’m gunna charge a bunch. 🤦♂️ I don’t do that. I personally charge per hour regardless of the job.
I worked with great upholsterer and if I had left the seats like that I would be doing them again. The leather is far to lose and covered in wrinkles. Thank god for your comment I thought it was just me being too fussy.
And there is absolutely no way that upholsterer did any work for HM Queen Elizabeth, that's complete BS. There would be zero point in having upholstery done in the US, and certainly not at that low quality.
Here in the UK, these old Rollers make very nice cars for weddings and events chauffeuring - and easily pay for their upkeep. I once knew a retired car mechanic who did up an old Silver Cloud and it was a nice little part-time earner for him for doing weddings and stuff. He said that they were actually fairly solid and reliable, easy to work on and generic service parts were available, keeping maintenance costs down.
You're not at all being truthful. You're talking about an accomplished mechanic/ auto electrician, who is buying from a scrapyard. The engine's 6.75 are bulletproof and American gearbox. Electrics and bodywork, self level and brakes.......

Having worked and built Rolls-Royce aero engines for 31 years I totally understand the over engineering of your car but it works . Keep up your great content really enjoy all your videos. What tends to happen is that subjects who are graciously allowed to travel in the regal conveyance would, upon their return home, seek to emulate in their own vulgar conveyances, the creases upon which they had been privileged to sit in the Royal limousine.
I would absolutely believe that! Chicago is home to the Horween Leather Tannery, founded in 1905 it is one of the oldest and most respected leather tanneries in the world. I would not be surprised if the Queen's Original Rolls seats were crafted with Horween Leather, and logical that they might choose a local leather worker to source leather and reupholster the seats.

I stand corrected. You are absolutely right RR did use Connolly leather. However- I think you are selling your brothers across the pond short, just a little bit. When was the last time you guys launched a rocket to space? Horween Leather is still in business and I'd encourage you to look them up since apparently you know everything about everything.
When I was 19 I worked in a car trimmers with 3 X Rolls Royce guy's, they were all in there late 60s and I was always amazed at the quality of the work they produced. One guy by the name of Gordon Greenwood had lost an eye in his younger days at Rolls from a seat spring. It reminded me when you were working on the seat mechanism. I'm now 56 and although they are long gone there work will live on with the help of enthusiasts and collectors 👍

What a fantastic transformation. Being owners of a number of such motor cars from the 1920s to 90s, the Silver Cloud is one of my favourites. Looks so impressive and imposing, the body work on your example is exceptional, something in England sadly is impossible to maintain due to our climate. Looking forward to the mechanical episode. Very much enjoy the longer presenation format. Thank you for what is clearly a great deal of work to produce a quality 38 minute video.
Alex is one of the few Auto RUclipsrs that actually has great enjoyable content and actually finishes his projects. Most of these other guys I feel do it for the money at this point and just upload bullshit to keep their channel afloat.

This car was made the year I was born and she looks a darn sight better than I do! I love how several British and European manufacturers "copied" U.S. automakers and put fins on some models. This Roller and the 1957-1961 W189 Mercedes Benz 300 ("Adenauer") are sublime examples of an understatement to accentuate the car as a whole. I look forward to seeing the final video after you've done the mechanicals on this grande dame.
Apart from the great car stuff, Alex is pretty much one of the best consumer advice/life hack guys I've ever seen - with or without "sponsorship". It's just another reason why the work he does on his channel is so great and has been for what is getting on for a decent chunk of time now. Ultimately, though, he's just a lovely guy. The world needs more like him.

I love it when someone tackles a car that is intimidating. There's a reason a Rolls is expensive to work on, but it still comes apart a bolt at a time and you proved it's not impossible.
I bought a carpet extractor and a steam cleaner, pretty much like the ones on the video - a Bissel SpotClean Pro and a Karcher SC 2, respectively - and I can confirm the massive improvement they provide, without very much effort, avoiding aggressive chemicals which may degrade the material, and saving your time. Steam Cleaner: I bought a small cheap used car to go around town, and the door seals looked horrible, especially on the zones our feet go across. I thought I would have to polish, or even paint it. To clean it first I passed the steam cleaner, and for my surprise the paint underneath all that dirt was as new! Shiny and everything. The underside of the hood / bonnet, the door jams, the trunk jams, around the engine, and especially the air vents turned out great. The plus side is: I could convince my wife of getting a steam cleaner to clean the bathroom and kitchen, on the tiles or around the sink. Carpet extractor: I bought a station wagon for longer trips, with a beige interior, because it was cheap and because I loved the contrast between the beige seats and doors, with some black accent. Gorgeous! But, I had to learn how to keep it clean. This is where I tried a steam cleaner, to keep both carpets and seats (if they are cloth) clean. The argument for the wife is rugs, mats, and bed mattresses.
Or even some of their relatives. The car obviously meant the world to the lady he bought it off. So I'm sure relatives (children or grandchildren) would love to see it now.
I really enjoy your videos, it's so satisfying to see a car go from bad to good in your hands. You're one of the only car youtubers who finish their projects while teaching us so many techniques along the way.
Amazing results guys! That Majestic Rolls Royce looks fabulous, the Queen would approve! But alas, 'Super Happy Peter' looks a bit scary al la Jack Nicholson in 'The Shining'....😄Love the LSC, GB plates! And whoever did the paint job all those years ago needs to be commended, it's still in great shape and looks particularly glorious after your polishing efforts. 7:00 i have the 1450$ Mytee 8070 for my detailing business, use to use the bissell but the interiors i was getting were so hammered i had to upgrade nothing like the 4 gallon heated commerical extractor cuts time down by 75 percent as well due to the pump being a commerical grade and 225 degree heat

Fantastic job, Alex. I once took photos of an old early 60's Bentley (2 tone silver and silver blue) for a body shop along with their black 50's T-Bird. I couldn't take photos of their prize piece of work which was under tarps and not yet restored... a Benz reputed to have been Eva Braun's car. They were doing some specialized work on it before shipping it off to another specialist for more restoration work. That was in the late 70's as I was in a camera club and the shop came to us for someone to take photos. I volunteered. 🙂Still have some prints around here somewhere. I'm still into taking shots of classic cars at our local Concours d'Elegance. I just do it for myself, probably have thousands of photos (mostly digital, thank God). Carry on and keep the shiny side UP!!!

Just an fyi, if you have a stain you don't get out with the steamer, once it cools, it's never coming out, it's set in the fibers. Water extraction, you can keep working on the stain. Also, you have to be careful with the rotary tool, carpet can be damaged with too much scrubbing with a power tool. Grew up working for my father's cleaning company, been cleaning carpet for 30+ years and been flooring installer for the last 8 years.
For 6 months of work I am deeply disappointed by the craftsmanship of this interior. The leather needed to be heated and stretched before being secured to the seat frame. For a vehicle of such rarity I would expect a skilled individual to do that upholstery. Unfortunately this will affect the value tremendously. People who buy these rare exclusive cars look for perfection especially in the interior.
Rarity? Rolls aren't common as a brand, but as far as models go this is not rare for a Rolls, I've seen quite a few of them, in the wild and at shows. I like this era of them, but obviously they don't drive particularly well, very soft and boaty suspension, and engine power is low for a car that heavy.
@@deadsilentyt9009 We define rarity differently then, from my perspective something is rare if you virtually never see one outside of a specific museum and can't find one to buy easily in a few month or so. By your standard most cars I've had were rare since the chance of seeing one on the road for an average person in say a year or two is virtually zero. To me anything made in thousands is not rare. If they made 10 of something, and there are 3 or 4 known to exist - that to me is rare.
I don't know much about car restoration, but I know a nice piece of work when I see it. Of the couple of hundred hours of toil, you wasted not a moment. Your care and labor really show. Truly, a fine, fine job. I'll trade you my Nissan, my wife and my dog for the Rolls.

The guy who did your seats should be ashamed of himself, not only for lying, but for trying to use the lie to increase the prices for his work. The Royal family have professional service industry professionals "By Royal Appointment." The Royal Rolls would only be entrusted to someone from the Rolls Royce factory, or one of its licensed shops. You dun been had son.
Great video. Love the car. When you encounter a problem getting bolts and washers and threaded holes to line up, sometimes you can solve the problem by inserting a stud in the threaded hole, then using a nut on top. I've done this a couple of times.
When i was a carpet out of the car i ise the hose and carpet shampoo. When inside the car - steamer or shampoo/water mist and vacuum it out. Great and cheap (for a Rolls) restoration Alex. Take care
There was a guy who worked on Rolls Royces who restored one for his son in law. It was the p3 dual headlight model, like Burks Law had. It was light and dark silver or grey. WOW. They used to show it around the Bay Area. Probably the prettiest car ever. The two tome grey/silver would the color I would paint one.
Am I the only one not loving the quality of the reupholster job? There seems to be so many pulls, gathers and pinches in the leather. The materials are obviously top notch, but I feel like it maybe needs a final going over before Alex accepted the seats back... Especially for the money he spent!
The hides are of decent quality but by no means up to the standard of hide that came with the car from new. The original hides were from Connelly. The upholstery work is most definitely not to original standard. The welting is uneven and the pleats by far too flat. All in all a decent job if restoring a a 76 Buick Electra Park Avenue. As the interior of a Rolls-Royce, a zero out of ten.
Great video work and very nice job done on the seats and carpet. 9:12 I've found that sometimes, after extraction cleaning, the residual soap can attract dirt. I go over the cleaned carpet again with the extraction cleaner, but this time with warm water - no soap. Leaves the carpet well rinsed without any soap residue.
I don’t understand some of the upholstery. You say it is a great job but why are there huge wrinkles in the lower base areas and even in some upper bolster areas. Looking at “factory” cars and a few very high end restored examples where there are absolutely no wrinkles, anywhere, i cannot agree that the reupholstery job was that good. It is possible that the “thicker, upgraded” leather resulted in these apparent workmanship flaws.
After seeing her in the background on so many of your videos, it is so awesome to see the Rolls back in her Glory! Possibly one of the most surprising paint corrections I have seen. Hopefully, she will find a new owner to appreciate her for another 60. If still with us, have you considered sending some pics to the previous owner?
There's no way that guy charged $6000 for tose seats, no freaking way. Here in Mexico it would have been the same result, in a week for literally $1000 USD
You need to start an upholstery website and market it, get people to send it to you, you get someone to do the work then mail it back....basically be the middle man just dealing with the customers and coordinating. You could make a ton of money.
You've done some major videos showing your ability, but this car man - WOW. You found your gem in this gorgeous piece of art. You really do have an edge on cars and what they are capable of being reinvented to be as the original it was. Nice work, good job, and what a beauty.
I can remember helping polish a Cloud 1. We used Porzelack wax with baby powder mixed in as a light cutting compound. Of course the one we were doing hadn't deteriorated to the degree of this one. Took us ages to do but the result was stellar. We were given the idea by the Chauffeur to the Governor of Victoria.
Love this video. Seems like the rear center armrest has the mechanism hiding leather "cover" but the two front seat armrests really needs them. Rolls wouldn't have had the ugly metal exposed.
Awesome car. Elegant old luxury. I use Simple Green and hot water mixed in a portable carpet shampooing machine. Works great and you don’t have to buy the expensive cart shampoo.
i would love to see you work on the a/c honestly the older cars especially a Rolls-Royce I have an interesting way of doing their air-conditioning I believe they probably used a Chrysler design because it looks like it has both front and rear air conditioning it would be interesting to see
English interiors, especially RR and Bentley are difficult. The proof is in how poorly this upholstery is done. I wouldn't allow all that puckering and wrinkling even in the cheapest Chevy
I agree. I don’t think the upholstery job looks great at all, even for $6K. Looks like thin fake vinyl, not real leather. Certainly no where near what quality it would’ve been originally.
As a detailer, for carpets I use a steamer an chemicals like that Tough Stuff, an use a drill attachment broom-like wheel. For stubborn stains, a good old fashioned toothbrush or stiff scrubbing brush. For pet hairs that just WILL NOT vaccuum out, I use a pumice stone, or if THAT doesn't work, using a razor blade to snag them an pull them out. Unless there are holes or burns, there hasn't been a carpet I couldn't clean.

I installed premade leather upholstery on my '73 911 seats that fit better than what I'm seeing here.
The RR is a keeper. She’s a solid 10 to me. I too would drive her into my 90s.

@@meichong8278 it just needs a quick steam. Leather will tighten with heat. Even letting it sit out in the sun will tighten it up nicely.

I love how several British and European manufacturers "copied" U.S. automakers and put fins on some models. This Roller and the 1957-1961 W189 Mercedes Benz 300 ("Adenauer") are sublime examples of an understatement to accentuate the car as a whole.

I love it when someone tackles a car that is intimidating. There's a reason a Rolls is expensive to work on, but it still comes apart a bolt at a time and you proved it's not impossible.

I bought a carpet extractor and a steam cleaner, pretty much like the ones on the video - a Bissel SpotClean Pro and a Karcher SC 2, respectively - and I can confirm the massive improvement they provide, without very much effort, avoiding aggressive chemicals which may degrade the material, and saving your time.
Steam Cleaner:
I bought a small cheap used car to go around town, and the door seals looked horrible, especially on the zones our feet go across.
I thought I would have to polish, or even paint it.
To clean it first I passed the steam cleaner, and for my surprise the paint underneath all that dirt was as new! Shiny and everything.
The underside of the hood / bonnet, the door jams, the trunk jams, around the engine, and especially the air vents turned out great.
The plus side is: I could convince my wife of getting a steam cleaner to clean the bathroom and kitchen, on the tiles or around the sink.
Carpet extractor:
I bought a station wagon for longer trips, with a beige interior, because it was cheap and because I loved the contrast between the beige seats and doors, with some black accent. Gorgeous!
But, I had to learn how to keep it clean. This is where I tried a steam cleaner, to keep both carpets and seats (if they are cloth) clean.
The argument for the wife is rugs, mats, and bed mattresses.
Perfection, really appreciate the time and effort to bring this car back to life.

Or even some of their relatives. The car obviously meant the world to the lady he bought it off. So I'm sure relatives (children or grandchildren) would love to see it now.

7:00 i have the 1450$ Mytee 8070 for my detailing business, use to use the bissell but the interiors i was getting were so hammered i had to upgrade nothing like the 4 gallon heated commerical extractor cuts time down by 75 percent as well due to the pump being a commerical grade and 225 degree heat

Fantastic job, Alex. I once took photos of an old early 60's Bentley (2 tone silver and silver blue) for a body shop along with their black 50's T-Bird. I couldn't take photos of their prize piece of work which was under tarps and not yet restored... a Benz reputed to have been Eva Braun's car. They were doing some specialized work on it before shipping it off to another specialist for more restoration work. That was in the late 70's as I was in a camera club and the shop came to us for someone to take photos. I volunteered. 🙂Still have some prints around here somewhere. I'm still into taking shots of classic cars at our local Concours d'Elegance. I just do it for myself, probably have thousands of photos (mostly digital, thank God).

Just an fyi, if you have a stain you don't get out with the steamer, once it cools, it's never coming out, it's set in the fibers. Water extraction, you can keep working on the stain. Also, you have to be careful with the rotary tool, carpet can be damaged with too much scrubbing with a power tool. Grew up working for my father's cleaning company, been cleaning carpet for 30+ years and been flooring installer for the last 8 years.
For 6 months of work I am deeply disappointed by the craftsmanship of this interior. The leather needed to be heated and stretched before being secured to the seat frame. For a vehicle of such rarity I would expect a skilled individual to do that upholstery. Unfortunately this will affect the value tremendously. People who buy these rare exclusive cars look for perfection especially in the interior.
Rarity? Rolls aren't common as a brand, but as far as models go this is not rare for a Rolls, I've seen quite a few of them, in the wild and at shows. I like this era of them, but obviously they don't drive particularly well, very soft and boaty suspension, and engine power is low for a car that heavy.

@@deadsilentyt9009 We define rarity differently then, from my perspective something is rare if you virtually never see one outside of a specific museum and can't find one to buy easily in a few month or so. By your standard most cars I've had were rare since the chance of seeing one on the road for an average person in say a year or two is virtually zero. To me anything made in thousands is not rare.
If they made 10 of something, and there are 3 or 4 known to exist - that to me is rare.

The Royal family have professional service industry professionals "By Royal Appointment." The Royal Rolls would only be entrusted to someone from the Rolls Royce factory, or one of its licensed shops. You dun been had son.

Great video. Love the car. When you encounter a problem getting bolts and washers and threaded holes to line up, sometimes you can solve the problem by inserting a stud in the threaded hole, then using a nut on top. I've done this a couple of times.
Absolutely beautiful car, but if it was mine, the new leather seats with all the loose fitting and creasing would really bother me.
When i was a carpet out of the car i ise the hose and carpet shampoo. When inside the car - steamer or shampoo/water mist and vacuum it out. Great and cheap (for a Rolls) restoration Alex. Take care
$6000 seat upholstery? Man they seen you coming a mile away. Plus, it looks like crap.
LOVELY! (Do the paint chip filling before the buffing out. Then sand the chip repairs with 1500 grit, then 3000, THEN do the buffing out)

There was a guy who worked on Rolls Royces who restored one for his son in law. It was the p3 dual headlight model, like Burks Law had. It was light and dark silver or grey. WOW. They used to show it around the Bay Area. Probably the prettiest car ever. The two tome grey/silver would the color I would paint one.
Am I the only one not loving the quality of the reupholster job? There seems to be so many pulls, gathers and pinches in the leather. The materials are obviously top notch, but I feel like it maybe needs a final going over before Alex accepted the seats back... Especially for the money he spent!
The hides are of decent quality but by no means up to the standard of hide that came with the car from new. The original hides were from Connelly. The upholstery work is most definitely not to original standard. The welting is uneven and the pleats by far too flat. All in all a decent job if restoring a a 76 Buick Electra Park Avenue. As the interior of a Rolls-Royce, a zero out of ten.
It's poor workmanship. He was ripped off.

Great video work and very nice job done on the seats and carpet. 9:12 I've found that sometimes, after extraction cleaning, the residual soap can attract dirt. I go over the cleaned carpet again with the extraction cleaner, but this time with warm water - no soap. Leaves the carpet well rinsed without any soap residue.
I don’t understand some of the upholstery. You say it is a great job but why are there huge wrinkles in the lower base areas and even in some upper bolster areas. Looking at “factory” cars and a few very high end restored examples where there are absolutely no wrinkles, anywhere, i cannot agree that the reupholstery job was that good. It is possible that the “thicker, upgraded” leather resulted in these apparent workmanship flaws.
Yep I would have sent that right back. Saw defects straight away and he said he did work for the late queen. 😂

After seeing her in the background on so many of your videos, it is so awesome to see the Rolls back in her Glory! Possibly one of the most surprising paint corrections I have seen. Hopefully, she will find a new owner to appreciate her for another 60. If still with us, have you considered sending some pics to the previous owner?

Awesome work on the Rolls! You should have used a finishing polish after the compound to remove the compounding hazing.
There's no way that guy charged $6000 for tose seats, no freaking way. Here in Mexico it would have been the same result, in a week for literally $1000 USD
You need to start an upholstery website and market it, get people to send it to you, you get someone to do the work then mail it back....basically be the middle man just dealing with the customers and coordinating. You could make a ton of money.
You've done some major videos showing your ability, but this car man - WOW. You found your gem in this gorgeous piece of art. You really do have an edge on cars and what they are capable of being reinvented to be as the original it was. Nice work, good job, and what a beauty.

I can remember helping polish a Cloud 1. We used Porzelack wax with baby powder mixed in as a light cutting compound. Of course the one we were doing hadn't deteriorated to the degree of this one. Took us ages to do but the result was stellar. We were given the idea by the Chauffeur to the Governor of Victoria.
The seats are not up to RR standards I’m afraid, I would not be happy.
Love this video. Seems like the rear center armrest has the mechanism hiding leather "cover" but the two front seat armrests really needs them. Rolls wouldn't have had the ugly metal exposed.

I use Simple Green and hot water mixed in a portable carpet shampooing machine. Works great and you don’t have to buy the expensive cart shampoo.
i would love to see you work on the a/c honestly the older cars especially a Rolls-Royce I have an interesting way of doing their air-conditioning I believe they probably used a Chrysler design because it looks like it has both front and rear air conditioning it would be interesting to see

English interiors, especially RR and Bentley are difficult. The proof is in how poorly this upholstery is done. I wouldn't allow all that puckering and wrinkling even in the cheapest Chevy
I agree. I don’t think the upholstery job looks great at all, even for $6K. Looks like thin fake vinyl, not real leather. Certainly no where near what quality it would’ve been originally.
As a detailer, for carpets I use a steamer an chemicals like that Tough Stuff, an use a drill attachment broom-like wheel. For stubborn stains, a good old fashioned toothbrush or stiff scrubbing brush. For pet hairs that just WILL NOT vaccuum out, I use a pumice stone, or if THAT doesn't work, using a razor blade to snag them an pull them out. Unless there are holes or burns, there hasn't been a carpet I couldn't clean.
