In my opinion this is the best model that Rolls Royce ever produced in every way, and it's this model that made me fall in love with Rolls Royce and Bentley. I first saw one in the late 1950s at Harrogate Show in Yorkshire, that was it i was smitten, and it's the model I've always wanted to own, they are simply (A HAVEN OF TRANQUILITY), it hasn't happened yet LOL, but I'm very happy with my 1980 Silver Shadow 2. This is a real beauty in every way, great presentation, and great video ,thanks for sharing and have subscribed.
Excellent example of a Silver Cloud. One slight error in the description is that on very early cars, a manual gearbox was available. With my 50 plus years as a Rolls Royce engineer, I have seen just the one example of a column change manual gearbox.
I never took to the twin headlamps of the later Silver Cloud. I think the mk 1 found the car at its best. If I had the money, I'd be going in search of one but the chances of finding one as original as this example are pretty slim. What a find for you!
Such a lovely automobile! A friend of mine had a 1960 Cloud I (two tone grey) which I was fortunate enough to drive occasionally and I agree with what you say about the "smell"-- nothing can describe that wonderful scent! You're spot on about seeing the Spirit of Ecstasy when driving-- my friend referred to her as his "guide"... many thanks for bringing back good memories for me!
A symphony in motion. So much more graceful than todays ugly lump. No BMW engine under that bonnet! Sir Henry Royce would spin in his grave with todays lump.
An absolutely beautiful Rolls Royce Silver Cloud, however these cars were not known as a Silver Cloud 1, the reason being that when introduced in 1955, there was no anticipation of a subsequent and similar model at that time so it was simply known as the Rolls Royce Silver Cloud. In 1959, Rolls Royce decided to upgrade the engine to a 6.23 litre V8 and THIS became the Rolls Royce Silver Cloud 11 (and the following Rolls Royce Silver Cloud 111 in 1963). I had a friend (sadly passed away now) who owned one of the first 1959 V8's here in Australia, I believe it's untouched except for a refurbishment of the paint work - in it's original colours of two tone green (that's all I know about it at this time). Still, this is a stunning example of this era Rolls Royce which I have experienced driving from 1974 (when I was 22 years of age - yes, I AM that old!). Many MANY thanks for sharing this clip of your lovely car - by the way, it's in my favourite colours for this style, Sand over Sable. I LOVE IT! Thank you again and take care.

The factory items is a beautifully made one-piece item of a style and quality equal to the rest of this superb car.

I think this is the peak of Rolls Royce as a brand. There is something special about a big inline 6 cylinder engine engine which a V8 cannot replicate. A part of me wish that Rolls Royce instead of developing the V8 would have contacted Bosch and purchased the right to the same fuel injection system as used by Mercedes Benz in their Adenauer 300 and used it on their inline six. Maybe a call to Peugeot regarding using their thermostatically controlled electric fan for the cooling system would also have been a good idea 🤔
This is what a car should be from Rolls Royce. The modern cars are very well built as usual. Very.. very expensive, but look like many other modern large cars They should put traditional style, with modern technology back on the road. After all.. Roller

What a lovely car. You should be very proud. If only they had put that proven straight 6 engine in the Shadow. One of the down falls of Rolls Royce is that they today are probably no more reliable than a good Japanese car. Some things are necessary but other things are not. Kiss.
Thanks for your comment. Over the years I've known them, the 6230 and 6750cc V8s have been very reliable. We have however spent a lot on hydraulics, suspension and braking systems.
True, the V8 engines were very reliable. Bullit proof. It was the braking and suspension hydraulics that were the trouble for the Shadows, though over the 25 years that I owned mine, I had no hydraulic troubles, as I change the fluid as recommended and always drove the car at least once a week.( those systems needed to be activated and used!) I wish I had my 'Elizabeth' back.. I sold her to a friend who then resold her and then it popped up on an international auction site where shes now back in Europe, after being born in Britain, and spending all her life in California.
"As they should be" if owners had the finances and the inclination to keep them as this one has been cared for. With weathered paint and cracked leather, they do not look the part.
It is a lovely example, and I'm told the six was much more reliable than the later V8 engines. But best in the world? A 1956 Cadillac came with Hydramatic, power steering and brakes standard. The Cadillac had a powerful and reliable 6.2 liter V8. You could have power windows, seats, locks, and air conditioning. And almost 70 years later, that same Cadillac would be more than capable of driving from Los Angeles to Las Vegas quietly and comfortably. The same can be said of Chryslers of that period. Rolls built beautiful cars, but at three times the price.

How about such things as ventilation and air conditioning? It has these old and primitive ventilation windows on the doors. But I can´t see any vents in the dashboard.....
Those old and primitive ventilation windows(quaterlights) were very efficient and cooled the car better than any modern non air con ventilation system.
The numberplate is english and the countryside is british then is nice. With a american, german or italian numberplate a Rolls-Royce not seems a true Rolls-Royce.
The ads for these with their pictures showing the Cloud in incongruously middle-class, typically-American environs and wall-of-text sales pitch ("the loudest sound at 60 mph is the clock ticking" and pitching the lack of annual styling changes as a plus in the exact same way VW did at the other end of the market) are as classic as the car itself.
@@HeronPoint2021 Yeah, the VW comparison had to do with the lack of annual model changes, not the sound of the engine. An aircooled engine's always going to be loud.
Definetely a beautiful elegant car, unfortunately not very energy-efficient. Not sure about the price of gasoline in England, but driving such a car in Belgium would be comparable with stepping on board of the Orient Express. I'm less pleased with the outside colour, but who knows, maybe the history of who owned it before makes up for that ? Was it from a banker or insurance brooker, a spy master, a rock star, of Diana Dors or Roger Moore, of the owner of a posh fashion shops in London, a Scottish Lord or the best known rose breeder in England ?
Yes, we drove through Malton town square. We drive around Malton, Knapton, and Scampston. It is a lovely part of the world. Thank you for watching and commenting.
I am sorry, but you are wrong about "the most comfortable car". In 1959 the Citroen DS was, and still is, the most comfortable car in the world with its hydropneumatic suspension! In fact, Rolls Royce used this system on license from Citroen on some models in the late 70s, early 80s! Then they got better!
Rolls-Royce died in the 1970s. What they make today is just a hollow shell bearing its name. The formless, high-tech abominations produced by BMW are an insult to a glorious legacy.
Totally disagree Arnold - the modern day Rolls - Royce is beautifully and magnificently crafted in Goodwood England by dedicated perfectionists , who produce the most stunning hand crafted cars to customer specifications . . Customer taste can vary I agree but the quality and finish of these cars retains it's status as The Best Car in The World ❤
I don't know, if it wasn't for the chrome plated plastic knobs, then maybe. I've seen one new RR where the chrome is detaching from the knob in the centre consul.
Disagree. There are certain things that the moderns can do performance wise, but the excessive complexity, the hybrid origin driveline ( BMW engine, ZF transmission ), the ridiculous cost for parts and service, the modern Rolls is bastardized to me. Rolls Royce was instrumental in fighting the Germans, now they are owned/powered by them.
Featured car is an automatic. Manual gearboxes were available but extremely rare and in 50 years of repairing the Silver Cloud I’ve seen precisely one.
@@colingianella7172 Indeed, Hydramatic, introduced by Oldsmobile in 1939. I guess Rolls waited 20 years to see if it was a passing fad. By 1959, every car in America, from the cheapest Chevrolet to the most expensive Cadillac offered automatic transmissions.
I am not at all fond of Rolls Royce styling and interior. Just think of the terrribly ugly and primitive steering wheel! I think it is very old fashioned and antiquated. It´s so conservative and lacks all avant garde! But, of course, it is english and perhaps this is how it should be. I am not impressed. Anyway, it does not appeal to me!

Was it from a banker or insurance brooker, a spy master, a rock star, of Diana Dors or Roger Moore, of the owner of a posh fashion shops in London, a Scottish Lord or the best known rose breeder in England ?
El rolling stones Brian Jones tenía uno.
Your turn Goldfinger... Golf is not yet the national pastime in Korea!
Wow
L though I recognised roads around Malton.
Yes, we drove through Malton town square. We drive around Malton, Knapton, and Scampston. It is a lovely part of the world. Thank you for watching and commenting.
There is no Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud I, it's a Silver Cloud. And then came the II and the III. Same for Rocky, Rambo or Superman movies...
I'll not argue with Stallone 😆
It is a valid distinction.
MAY NOT BE comments -- Rolls - Royce is Rolls - Royce . .
It is as they should be, and given the rarity of cars with this level of originality the car has now been sold to a discerning Rolls-Royce collector
Can't argue that the ds was not the better car. Didn't have the presence of this car but I would take either for a spin
Rolls-Royce died in the 1970s. What they make today is just a hollow shell bearing its name. The formless, high-tech abominations produced by BMW are an insult to a glorious legacy.
The phantom killed the RR...and every model after it
Modern versions are soulless. Too Germanic.
And hideous both inside and out.
Totally agree
@@Adrian-kl2ql ...and they don't leak oil! How untraditional!
Am I dreaming?
No but you are in a cloud!
nad now bmw makes them? :D least reliable car maker?
Plug ugly things even worse, conspicuous wealth.
I immediately stopped watching when i saw that Rolls and Royce didn't have the ever present HYPHEN,!., SHAMELESS MISTAKE,!👎👎👎👎👎👎
"This model can trace it's origins..." * its
We believe "..trace its origins..." is correct in this sentence because it is a possessive, not a contraction.
Radiator Grills pressed out like saucepans not hand made, components made out of plastic made by BMW
I owned a Rolls- Royce Silver Shadow. Mercedes- Benz W 126 is the best. Period. 👍😄😞
W 126 is a great car, but that was introduced a quarter of a century later.
EQUISITE
This "X" is for you, see if you can make good use of it ! 😎
I have 2
😂
Silver Shadow 2 & Silvier Cloud Saloon.
But very nice car...Good Luck!
🍕
Unfortunately it's a manual.
Silver Clouds and Bentley S1 are all 4 speed automatic. Manual transmission went out with their predecessors the Bentley R type and Silver Dawn.
Nothing at all wrong with a manual transmission - far more durable and far less complex.
Just don't get it I guess. Quiet grace. That may be peak RR. The mark slipped not too long after this and didn't recover till recently
love to own it = then fuel injection and twin turbo = in a sneaky installation - may be rear mounted !
Ouch!
