Parliament has always ignored us. Some see it more clearly now. The Coalition Gov. have made this so clear. Our children see it and they have the advantage of looking through their lense having been brought up undisputedly maori. TPM are focusing that lense and our children are locked into it, this is the just the beginning. The gov might do what they like, but they cannot control how Maori respond

This government reversed a world leading tobacco ban legislation, which 80% of NZ wanted.
This tobacco ban would save 5000 kiwi soils per year. 1000 of those are Maori.
This was tobacco ban would have saved us $5,000,000,000 (five billion dollars) with health care costs.
This government campaigned on ‘vibes’ about how this tobacco ban for those born after 2009, would impact small businesses and reduce freedoms to smoke (despite 80% of NZ freely choosing to support this ban). They also campaigned on wanting to reduce the nicotine levels in smokes that we allowed.
When these crooked consultant cronies got into power, the quietly reversed the ban, told their tobacco mates they can look forward to milking billions of NZ dollars out of our economy and into their offshore shell companies where they don’t have to pay tax in NZ.
They also did a back flip on their wanting to reverse the nicotine reduction and told the tobacco companies to keep it flowing.
One third of the revenue generated from tobacco, comes from Maori. 1000 of the 5000 New Zealander’s that will now die because of Mr Luxon.
There was no evidence that reversing this smoking ban would be beneficial to Maori and they did this knowing a disproportionate amount of Maori would die and be impacted.
If it were a motivating factor, for Nationals voter base, that poor brown Maori people die off, this government have quenched this yearning.
The silence around this evil Nazi-like act by Mr Luxon, is deafening.
Luxon knowingly causing harm and death to a disproportionately impacted demographic.
    Shame on his supporters.
His hands are drenched with blood of the Maori people.
We must make this a one term government and remind our fellow New Zealanders who hold r a c is t views, that this thinking and behaviour is not welcome in Aotearoa.

Coming from Malaysia, I am wary of ethnicity based policies and institutions but accept that there are limits to a vision of a colour blind society. Inequality is something difficult to eradicate. We need societies that address people's needs regardless of their ethnicity while accepting that inequality exists.

That happens in NZ the ethnicity angle is more to address historic issues that affects Maori today

I wish all kiwis felt this way. Alot of us do. But the ones with the loudest voices scream about they're ethnic needs and wants which is what keeps us separate. If only we could see our collective problems not our racial ones

@@Colin_Izer1111it can be said about pakeha though. There is a lot of pakeha who are there own worst enemy the difference is this land was stolen and occupied by pakeha, controlled by pakeha.
Do you honestly believe when the British stole this land and built their white Utopia called Nz they built it with equality. That NZ was built to include Maori? Let me answer, No. Like any country the British stole the indigenous people were forced in to abject poverty, policed constantly and forced to learn the pakeha language while being punished for speaking our native tounge and forcing the pakeha religion upon my people.
      Tell me I'm wrong.
How about I come to your home, erase your family and then steal your lands and then forced your remaining loved ones to live in shxt while punishing you for being non Maori. Would you be ok with this. Wake up.

Co-governance is in the treaty. Brits replaced rangatiratanga (run by local chiefs) into sovereignty (run by UK royals). The treaty house was set on fire but the treaty document still exists showing the details along with its burnt frayed edges. We've tried the colonial system for a hell of a long time and now is the time to give the actual documented deal a fair go.

To say Luxon is trying to engage with iwi leaders is just fascial. Look at what he says to what he does. He uses word salads which is hard for non Maori to understand. Words matter, actions are louder.

    • @mugg99

No, Māori want to use the same services as everyone else and not be discriminated against because of skin colour. But if the systemic racism continues (and there is actual evidence to back up that we have systemic racism in healthcare and in the NZ Police) then yes, perhaps Māori should have a separate entity, considering how the government is doing such a pathetic job responding to the obvious disparities… do ya get it?

The term 'racism' is a product of Post-Kantian ideology particularly Hegel's Dialectical Methodology. The 'thesis' and its 'antithesis' are fused into a 'synthesis' through a never ending conflict using words and terms in a open definition scenario. For example I might identify as a heterosexual tractor. Truth, meaning and value become individual truths. There is no absolute truth. Just what you think and I think and they think. Classic Postmodern Post-Christian situation. And, Modernity precedes Postmodernity.
