- Опубликовано: 10 сен 2019
- Hi all this is my first ever video if this type but I wanted to share my thoughts on this excellent guitar. Its hard to find negatives about this guitar but I thought it would be interesting to share my experience of owning this guitar for a year or so and show what I have done to it. Hope you enjoy..
Finally a longterm review! Very informative. Thanks!
Thanks glad you enjoyed it, I didn't want to waffle on too much haha
Great review. The "binding" on your guitar looks great. Ive seen some bindings looking kinda plain, but yours looks like nicely flamed maple.
Cheers, Iv seen two of these guitars in the flesh and they both had lovely binding.
Thanks for making this video- honest and informative 👍 cheers
thank for the good review!
iam planning to get the ML1 Pro hybrid
Nice I was very tempted with the pro hybrid but went for something different 3 Chapman's is enough haha
@@DSPGuitarTuition well that would be the first champan... looking for that strat on sterroid hehe
i have a Gretsch hollow body (that i love very much) you can see it on my channel
but ineed something with the versatily of a strat without the price tag lol and all the little upgrade i want
@@samuelj.rivard that's what drew me towards the hybrid, seems like a great inbetween for a strat and les paul player. It can do all of it and for the price it has a high spec. It will be interesting to see more reviews as it comes out.
@@DSPGuitarTuition well i can make one for when i get my hand on it
@@DSPGuitarTuition i just preorder it now iam running everywhere in my home with excitement like a kid on candy haha
Thanks so much dude!! I love this review, your ml1 pro modern looks insane!!
Glad to help. People seem to have found this review extremely useful so I'm glad to have help people. It is a cracking guitar wouldn't be without it now.
Really good review man! Everything I wanted to know, especially about the bridge. Had the exact same thought as you regarding bridge
Glad you found it useful man.
Agreed, pick-ups are such a personal taste. It’s rare to get a guitar and not think, “wonder what it would sound like with....” - nice call on the bridge as well.
Nice review. Always up for gear reviews.
Cheer man good to know as I wasnt sure if people would enjoy it or not as theres so many reviews these day.
@@DSPGuitarTuition independent reviews always good. You never know if a shop has an ulterior motive to push a particular model. Also a 'reliability' review after real world use is an extra bonus.
Nice review! I love mine-fortunately no issues with the pots or bridge for me in the 2 years I’ve owned it. Everything still stock.
Thanks for an honest review. I was debating about buying this model. I may take your advice and put a Hipshot bridge straight on it. Thanks mate.
You wont regret buying the guitar even if you left it standard. But for the price it's worth the mod of the bridge.
@@DSPGuitarTuition which version of the bridge did you put on, the .125 or .175? (link here hipshotproducts.com/collections/guitar-bridges/products/fixed-guitar-bridge?variant=12741771231331) thanks
@DSP Guitar Tuition what was the correct size .125 or .175? I’ve not long received a .125 and think I’ve got the wrong size 🙈 please help!
Can you link the bridge? I'm planning on changing mine but a little worried that I wont get the right one.
Hi the place I got mine from doesnt have any left but you can find them on Ebay, this is the one I have hipshotproducts.com/collections/guitar-bridges/products/fixed-guitar-bridge?variant=12741771198563
Umm i noticed real hipshot bridge and it just kinda looks different than mine. Is this sum kind of custom shop?
Strange not that I'm aware of. I believe it's a standard model bridge it was the cheapest one they sell haha
Hi, I need advice, I bought SH15 not TB15 is that a problem or string spacing will be fine? You looks like you have a SH, any volume lost with bends? cos Alternative 8 Is very high output 17,1 kOhms
Hi you should be fine with the SH15. The string spacing inst perfectly lined up ideally I need a F spaced picking in the bridge to get the strings and pole pieces perfectly lined up but it hasn't affected the tone or volume at all. So long as you dont mind the aesthetic of the not perfect alignment then it's fine.
@@DSPGuitarTuition thank you ill try it
the neck is really slilm so even with small hands its super easy to play and its super light
Great review. Just ordered one myself after trying one. How are the pickups wired with your replacement set? I heard there are quite a few options you can elect to go with the five way selector they put in this guitar.
Good choice you wont regret it. I wired the new pickups the same as the original set as I liked the way they split the coils. But yeah the 5 way switch offer loads of choices.
Chapman's are designed to be customised by their owners. Clearly, the bridge issue is to ensure the guitar still sits within the agreed price band. Adding £50 to the sales price for a different bridge may be commercially unfeasible.
Absolutely, the guitar is amazing for the price and all the stock hardware is perfectly fine. I just feel putting the same bridge on the standard range and the pro range is abit of a cheap move. But it's not a deal breaker by any means. I love that guitar lol
Can one tune this guitar to Standard e?
One most certainly can. It come from factory tuned to E standard with 10s on it. I think if I was to play this guitar is standard I'd put some 9-46s on it.
Hey bro, I have the same issue with the pots but I’m not certain about the type and size of them would you be able to tell me what type in and size they are so I can order the right one ?or would you link me what your ordered ?
cheers man
Hey man. I just got the standard CTS volume pot. Not expensive but decent. It's not as simple as just dropping it straight into the guitar. You will need to make the hole bigger for the shaft to fit through and to get the stock knobs on you need to squeeze together the top of the pot then force the knob onto the shaft. It's all simple stuff but if you dont want to do that then maybe order some Alpha pots that are Asian specs, CTS pots are US spec so are bigger I believe.
DSP Guitar Tuition uh my that seems complicated , how come you didn’t get the alpha pots ? Are they much worse ?
@@Alireza13488 I didnt realise at the time that the CTS pot was going to be that much different. It's the first time iv used them. I just knew they were good pots.
What size for hipshot bridge? .125 or .175? Got a .125 and think it a wrong! 🙈🙈 help!
Mines a .125 went straight on no problem
@@DSPGuitarTuition did you not find you had to raise the saddles too high? Also, the holes in mine do not line up. If I line up string holes the fixing holes are off and if I line the fixing holes up the string holes are off? 🙈 did you not find this?
@@leecartner3302 No I can't say I did and the saddles sit at the same height as they did on the stock bridge, I have adjustment room either way on the saddle height. I compared the two bridges when I changed them and they were identical in every way, the chapman was just cheaper quality..Is your guitar the same model as mine? They may have changed it on the new ones? Also I'm assuming you checked the measurement from the stock bridge to the hipshot to make sure they all would line up?
@@DSPGuitarTuition in all fairness I didn’t really check the measurements due to the fact that I spoke to Chapman as they do put hipshot on some of their newer stock and that it should be a straight swap. Mine is the exact same as yours, the legacy ML1 Pro Modern in satin lunar grey. I’ve put the two bridges together and the holes are off and the floor of the bridges are different. The stock is taller/thicker than the Hipshot which is why I’m leaning towards the .175 should be the actual size not the .125
@@leecartner3302 hmmm that is a strange one shouldnt be any reason for them to be different then. My friend has the same guitar and he put the hipshot bridge on as well without any issues. Maybe hipshot can swap it for you for the. 175 version. I mean it was a good few years ago when I changed mine maybe hipshot changed their measurements since then? I'd definitely check hipshot website check the measurements match your hipshot bridge and vs the Chapman stock bridge.
i dont think it needs a higher end bridge.
So a great guitar as long as you change the electronics, the bridge, probably the pickups... lol
I see your point hahaha .. It is great straight out of the box, the improvements I made were for personal taste. The volume pot did fail on me but I do give it some hammer when I play live and in fact my CTS replacement pot I have in it now is dying on me after only a year or so. Stock pickups are versatile but I had some duncans laying around from another guitar so I put them in because why not lol The bridge although not as high quality as it should have been worked exactly as it should, but it was a disappointing part of the guitar for me. In fact on the newer models I believe they have improved it..
Nice review Dale. What the price of the Chapman Pro. Bet it's well out my price range lol
Thanks man glad you enjoyed it I wasnt sure how it would be recieved since it's my first crack at a review. I think they are just shy of £1k new
Don't worry about it your a natural vloger. Hope to see more.
I’d say for a $1000 large I’d go with an Ltd 1000 series with the Duncan’s already in em! Or a Gibson tribute series? I haven’t seen one in person though so I can’t really say for certain. Probably all about the same quality? Some of The Chapman and Ltd models look very similar, so they could have been made in the same Korean factories?
I want the Aristides 060... It is my dream guitar.
Torn between this and PRS SEs.
Different guitars really the chapman has a longer scale and is great for lower tunings and will have a flatter radius. It's more of a modern axe where as your PRS will have a more classic vibe.
@@DSPGuitarTuition I agree and I'm into both worlds. This is gonna be my first serious guitar after my yamaha gigmaker I'm about to sell for cheap and some acoustic guitars. Thanks for the response mate. Nice review
Of course a better bridge will bring more tone. I replaced with titanium saddles and brass block, huge diff in sustain and zing and note separation
Most players can change their own strings but very few can change their own frets. If you have a guitar with stainless steel frets go nuts, but if you have nickel frets these new long-lasting strings are often made of materials that are harder than a nickel fret. Long story short, you'll wear those frets out quick, fast, and in a terrible hurry! A re-fret done by a professional luthier will set you back a few hundred dollars and that my friends is a lot of packs of strings!
I've been considering one of these guitars for a while now but I'm not so sure now because of all the bad press on social media concerning Rob and his arrogant and apparently bullying attitude towards people. I've always had the impression that Rob was a bit like that ever since I saw him on the Andertons channel. Should I not buy one of these guitars and consider something else just because people think Rob Chapman is a bit of a prick.
It's tough but if you think it's a good guitar and you like the way it plays then doesn't matter what anyone else thinks. I'd agree Rob has had his issues these last few months but so have the major manufacturer's like Gibson and people still buy those.
@@DSPGuitarTuition I decided that how Rob comes across to people wont make a difference to the quality of the guitars so I ordered an ML1 Pro Modern in the red colour yesterday. Expecting it on Monday :) Regarding the bridge I remember watching a video on I think it was Robs Andertons channel and he said that the prototypes had the hipshot bridge but it was removed to save money on the production models. I think I'd also put the hipshot bridge back as well.
@@markgowans good decision you wont regret it, excellent guitar for the money. And the small amount more it is for the bridge is worth the extra money.
On the newer models they have improved pickups and I feel the downsides of these on my ml1-7 pro. They feel very muddy on lower tunings and I am going to swap them for a set of bkp juggernaughts for more clarity, depth, punch and character. Already swapped the ones on my standard range to a set of bkp aftermaths and it sounds so epic now
My pot went out too
I don’t ever have to swap out fender pickups..... good review man !!! I can’t stand Chapman guitars. I’ve never gotten why people get into a guy who couldn’t come close to building a guitar himself but has to outsource all the real design and building properties because he’s not a guitar luthier. Especially now u can get a hand made , USA made , bad ass guitar for 1000$ now so it’s hard for folks to pay 1200$ for a Korean made cookie cutter ax that’s doesn’t have half the attention to detail or components. Guthrieguitars.com
Outsource? Lol. The fact that they let the design be voted on by the public (their CUSTOMERS) is a very good thing. If you dont like the design you are clearly the minority here because Chapman wouldnt have built something that hasnt won the voting (except artist models of course. Those are built to the artists taste)
Chapman guitars make a fender strat , a fender tele , a Gibson les Paul , a Gibson Flying V and a Gibson explorer . Where’s the originality, that’s my issue
@@richardpoole40able Their guitars are spec'ed sooo much differently than LP's, Gibson V's or Gibson Explorers. You cant even compare them
Metal Puppet I do agree I’ve played a number of chapmans , they don’t deserve the price tag but still reasonable guitars. The specs are different but the shapes remain the same, I call this lazy design ( I do like the look of the blue explorer though)
Thats absurd. If your house was on fire that guitar would likely be the cause. It's mostly a flaming piece of trash.
Haha not a fan of the Chapman guitars then
these guitars are trash
