Jeff is correct that British Leyland came along well after the closed coupe GT. In fact a closed version of the MGB had been envisioned right from the start. In 67 the tranny still did not have synchromesh on first. Often folks would start off by engaging 2nd to stop the gears, then select 1st to get under way. Result, 2nd gear synchro wears out prematurally, and you have no synchro on 1st or 2nd! Recommended to swap in a 68 or later all synchro unit.
3rd year for the GT. That's the best part of hot rodding and building cars, you can build them however you want! I love this little sports coupe, I am keeping certain things orginal, some things will be updated for safety and performance. It will always be an MGB GT, but it will be MY MGB GT. I think you will like the end results. Hang around and see what we do!
If you want to have some fun but still retain the sports-car handling characteristics, get a GM ) 3.4L 60° V6 with the T5 transmission. It's a very popular swap among British sports car enthusiasts.
Great video and thanks for posting. We’re you able to get sponsored by Miss Motors and if so did they offer and free or discounted parts? What was the process of getting sponsored by Moss Motors? Thanks!
Moss Motors does not "sponsor", with rare exceptions, certainly not just another "so called" restoration. They will discount to Bonafide auto repair shops. I have been doing business with them since 1964. Later, 1968-1972, I was the parts manager of one of the largest Rolls Royce, Bentley, Aston Martin, Jaguar, MG, Austin, Mini, Lotus, Morris Minor, Jensen dealers in the US. There are other MG parts suppliers in the US to include British Parts Northwest in Portland, Or., Import Parts North West is an MG parts specialist. There is also The Roadster Factory and a few more.
@@RonnKilby The change to neg ground and alternator came with the 68 model . ( Nov 67) Gear box was also upgraded to a full 4 syncho box. This car is a mystery.. it has what appears to be a 67 engine ( a look up with the engine number will give that info) but it has a Leyland badge on the left front wing. Leyland came on the scene in 68, the beginning of a slow and painful death for MG and the MGB. The complete ruination came in June of 1974 ( known as 74 1/2) with the Rubber Bumper cars and led to MG's demise of the MGB in 1980.

The "convertible" MGB is not, nor was ever called by MG factory, a "roadster". It was designated a TOURER. A "roadster" by definition does not have roll up windows. The MGA was a roadster as was the TA, TB, TC, TD and TF. If you want to know about that specific car.. Get a Heritage Certificate. But you know that. British Leyland had nothing to do with the decision to make a GT. The GT was introduced in 1965 by MG. British Leyland did not come on the scene until 1968. They destroyed the company and the MGB. Well known. Pinin Farina was only one of many companies who did coachwork for Ferrari. It is so obvious this is a Neg ground car, all the blather was just ignorance and a bad carnival show. Disc brakes on the rear of an MGB is a waste of time and money, They simply don't need it, the brakes are excellent. There are other more pressing priorities. I compiled a list of what I see on this car, but considering you are the X spurt I'll keep it to myself . That should make you happy. I would suggest not grandstanding, you look and sound a fool. Show some respect for the car and your audience; do some research on MG and the MGB. Watching this video, especially the abuse of the car in the field, this MGB is most definitely in the wrong hands. I pity this car.
Thanks for watching and commenting! I am not sure that Moss Motors sells them, but I think you can buy a sense of humor from Amazon. Good luck with finding one!
Looking forward to more clips Bro!!
We have a bunch up now, more coming soon!
This guy needs his own show - super helpful and fun to watch
Aww gee, thanks! Keep watching and share with your friends, maybe we can get there!

British Leyland badge would not be on a 1967 BGT ?
Were probably added by a previous owner
Lesson 1: Do some homework. Save money and time. I coulda told you it was negative earth. Also probably has a sticker in engine bay that says so.
There was no sticker for sure. It had been converted. It's just part of building an old British car that has no documentation.
@@Reddirtrodz Change at factory to negative earth was 1967 so it did not need to be "converted" if it was a '67.

The guy watches this and says dang, I lost $1000 cuz I didn't hook the battery up correctly! Lol
But then waits and sees nope, it was good. Lol
He discounted it because he hadn't seen the rust. He guaranteed the car ran, and it did, so all good!
@@Reddirtrodz ok that makes sense as well.
