Mo Iqbal did NOT start Monitor Audio, I did. At the start I was in retail with a store (Audio T) in Cambridge. I was never really happy with the speakers we sold. I teamed up with Martin Collums and came up with a prototype MA1 which I had on demonstration in the showroom for probably 8 months, testing and getting the crossover just right. To cut a long story short, we needed someone with premises and production experience. That's were Mo came in, I knew him from my days working for Cambridge Audio, he used to test the P50s when the factory was overloaded. He also had a large garage, so he got the job. Martin moved on with doing reviews, I left after about 1 year to continue with my retail shop, I also got fed up with screwing drivers into heavy boxes on every moment I had to spare. The rest is history, as they say. I had a pair of MA3s for many years. I now have a pair of Silver 500s.
I feel this is a story that needs to be said. I love Monitor Audio products however it's interesting that their 'story' is not entirely accurate, if your version is indeed true.
I had one of the first generation 5" Silver bookshelf, the Silver 4i, in 1999, and they were amazing. I wish I still had them. I also had the 2nd generation bronze 1 and 2. I wish I still had them too. Their C-CAM woofers and C-CAM gold dome tweeters are awesome!
I agree, Monitor Audio speakers are often overlooked in favor of more marketing-intensive brands, with a more coloured, less accurate sound. But I find MA to be excellent speakers for their price point, with a true neutrality (and measurements show that), which suits every content they reproduce.
I have a pair of Silver 100 7gs and they are quite enough for the room I have them in. The bass is super stiff and clear, I'm a big RUSH fan and I can easily hear the bass separate from the drums. They can also crank louder over 90 DB and still maintain their clarify
I really like the Silver edition. Also* because their center channel has a vertical alignment of tweeter / midrange ( ideal off axis dispersion) Thanks for putting these on point!! =) I'll be going to a local shop for a demo soon.
I have listened to the Silver 500 7G and the Gold 200 and 300, granted different price points, but the Silver lows held their own against the Gold 300 and the Silver tweeter was a tad bright compared to the Golds, but the Gold AMT tweeter was amazing in the accuracy, details and finesse. I do wish the Golds were not so pricey.
This is why I have gold c250 central speaker in my home theater setup (7.1.2) for even better sounding dialogs while the other 8 speakers are silver series. They all work great.
@@jjg9919 There are three types of ribbon tweeters: true ribbon tweeters, magnetostatic ribbon tweeters, and air motion transformers (AMT). Monitor Audio Gold series uses AMT tweeters. These tweeters are more pleasant, more musical to my ears than MA silver metal dome tweeters that I have in the rest of my speaker setup (which I also like). I definitely could not say listening to MA Gold AMT tweeters is exhausting. Maybe the guys were talking about 'true ribbon' tweeters, not AMT?
I am sitting here listening to music. Last night I bought a very cheap pair of Silver 8, the predecessor to the Silver 300 6g. I also have a pair of Platinum 100 MKII connected to two REL S/510. My Cayin CS100A amp is total overkill for the Silvers, but I wanted to see how they fare against much newer and far more costly speakers. The Silver 8 lose out on the finer texture, and timbre of instruments to the Platinum, of course they do, however, they are so good in every other area. I have used the Silvers with the RELs switched off, the Silvers need no subwoofer, at least not in my room. The extra woofers of the Silver really have weight and slam. This really makes me want to hear the bigger Silver 500s, I can only imagine they are fantastic. I have not heard the new Silver 7g range, but even these old Silver 8s are really making me question what I ultimately want from my system. The Silvers may lack the fine nuance of an 'audiophile' high end speaker, but they seriously just make everything sound so good. I paid £325 for these Silver 8's off Facebook marketplace lol, and they are making me question whether I want to sell nearly £10k worth of speaker and subs (new cost) and simply get a pair of the new Silver 300 7g. They are that good.

My room is like this. Bedroom has an 11 by 10 feet wide space. My bed facing the longest 11 feet length. My bed is along the right wall with a inside door in front to my right. My head faces the outside wall and windows behind me and my tv is in front of me across the 10 feet wide. The door opens in onto the wall my tv is placed. To the left of my bed is a protruding wall flu with a fireplace. So the walls on each side are recessed allowing me to have chest of drawers on one side of the tv. The other side in behind the window is my wardrobe. Tv faces rhe window and me in bed. I have a small computer desk to left side of my bed same side wardrobe and chest of drawers in in front of the flu fireplace. I have another little chest if drawers next to my wardrobe by fireplace. I am hoping to have some floorstanding speakers facing me under my tv. Between the bedroom door which opens in and chest of drawers i have around 6 feet under the tv. I have a wall mounted wooden shelf under my tv. The speakers would be placed there facing me and the windows. Do you guys think my room would be too small for the Silver 300 7G ?

I'm sorry but you're wrong about that and you've never heard of monitor audio and you live in England then you must be pretty uninformed and as good as ATC is they're not even in the same league as the monitor audio platinum.
well Doug these are not the best speakers that monitor audio makes, obviously you haven't heard the platinum series they're phenomenal they beat up on speakers that cost four to five times more, the platinum 500s that cost 32,000 US will sound better than the magico at 80,000, the beryllium tweeter that they use is very edgy and brighter sounding, the MPD tweeter is so natural it's probably the best tweeter on the market now goes to 100,000 clean.
Doug you don't know what you're talking about man, the platinum series from top to bottom will absolutely destroy the silver series obviously you haven't heard them, and same with the Gold series there's so much better than the silver it's not even funny they're 80 to 85% of the platinum now.
I should hope those Monitor Audio speakers perform better than the Silvers -- they are so much more expensive. You didn't notice that I mentioned the Silver speakers' prices, right?
@@chrisrichards2827 I think you need to improve your listening skills, AT NO POINT does he say the Silver Series is the best. What he says twice during the video is that Monitor Audio is making the beast Speakers they've ever made and some of the best for sale from any company.
Monitor Audio always make their speakers sound fun, which many speaker brands forget .

It might to some. But it's also the 50-year-old name of a reputable UK brand.
