    omg I totally agree 100% as I'm an korean... this video makes me laugh so hard btw especially when you talk about older ppl pushing you.... XD it's not bc they hate you, it's just bc it's korean culture.. ahahahahah even when you experience shitty things like when all koreans stare at you or older ppl push you pretending they don't give a fxxx, it's just some part of korean culture, not bc they don't like you... hahahaha korean ppl don't really talk to other ppl who they don't know so they just stare at you.. they don't really think about what you would feel so they just stare at you.. hahaha and older ppl they just wanna get into subway for the first and take seats, so they just push everybody. they don't care about pushing other ppl. hahahahaha I've also always experienced these things.

    I am Korean and I tell you, Korean people will stare at you even if you are not a foreigner. It is really bad with old people. It doesn't mean they are racists they just stare at you 🙄... It is a cultural difference and they don't think staring is considered rude.
    Like, how having a direct eye contact during conversation in western culture is considered normal? But in Korean culture, older people might get offended at direct eye contact. It is a cultural thing.... please know we are not trying to offend you or anything 😭

    In a lot of ways korea seems similar to japan. I liken it to usa and Canada. Family, education and politeness are things I've noticed between korea and japan. I think overall japanese people are more polite in a passive manner but i suspect its because in general, they don't speak english as well as koreans. Koreans are more likely to strike a conversation with you from my personal experience. And in Japan i dont think i was ever stared at if anything japanese people seemed to look away/stand away from me as if i smelled bad (on the subway).
    But the food is so different from each other and though i plan to go to korea next year im worried about the spicyness.

    • @maarcnig
      @maarcnig  6 лет назад +5

      I feel like Japanese people move away because most are not comfortable being around foreigners. It's a bit intimidating to them and just like you said, they're not as familiar with the English language as most Koreans are.

    • @edumont88
      @edumont88 6 лет назад +1

      maarcnig yea i mean out in public thats definitely the case but if i went to golden gai, which is the block that has 300 bars crammed in a coupley alleys they are completely different people. The people there tend to be more extrovert but that is the nature of sitting in a bar that seats like 6 people. Ive been to some bars where bartenders knew zero english and some where they knew some or one of their regulars was bilingual and would happily be the translator so that we could all have a conversation.

At one point i was by myself and an Indian family came to ask for a picture which i thought was no problem.. so i was about to grab their camera to take their photo until they made it clear that they didn't want me to take their photo, but be in their family photo?? I was thinking he wanted to talk so I went to the other side of the store by myself but he never came to me so I gave up and went back to my mom nothing happened for the rest of the store journey but when we went to go order he came to put our stuff into the bags and he made eye contact with me once but he seem shy and kept looking down and wouldn't look at me and after he finished he walked away quickly and after that when I went out side to put the stuff in the trunk and I looked up to see him and we locked eyes again but I quickly looked down and finished my stuff and I was assuming he was 16 cause he liked young and the youngest age to work there is 16! So yeah that happened at like 8pm and I was wondering if anyone has an idea of what he was thinking cause my friends were like oh he's interested in you and some of my friends were like oh he probably though you were pretty but like what do y'all think?

    From my experience my sister had an international competition abroad so I just came along and there was a Korean team and they all looked like kpop idols- there was even one of my age and he was so attractive while I’m just like 👁👄👁
    Also they’re all really short ngl and I looked older than a lot of people .keep In mind I’m 11 and 185cm. I also look a lot older to people in general and people mostly believe I’m 16.but it’s normal for people in my country to look a lot older, But for some reason they looked like babies compared to me
    Also they look at you like an alien for no reason. For example I have blue eyes and really pale white vampire/porcelain skin and blonde ish brown hair and they were starring at me just because of how I look.they were really confused and I think they looked at my eyes and me really weirdly ? But they intensely stared at me and it made me uncomfortable so I hope they didn’t think I was ugly. They spoke to me when we needed to communicate or if they needed help and all of them just started to stare at me and it was really weird. I’ll be experiencing this again every year for a long time btw so I really hope I don’t have to be so uncomfortable in a bit months when it’s time for the competition. Please remind me to make an update in August
    Also I hope my English wasn’t too bad I’m actually French but I’m trying to make my eng as good as I can

    If you go to Korea and *_don't_* want to be stared at or have your picture taken by complete strangers (which *_REALLY, REALLLLLLY_* bothers me, personally; I smack their phone right out of their goddamn hands and into oblivion), (which will all also likely die out anyway due to reasons he mentioned in this video), just wear hoodies that cover your hair and upper face, long clothing, dark sunglasses and/or a face mask if you can pull it off right. Also, push those older people right back, you're likely stronger. I can't stand been touched by strangers but I'm stubborn as fuck and I'll let someone know, if they're obviously doing it too much or not move for shit. Give. No. Fucks.

    I grew up in Germany and in the 1980's and 1990's it was the same here and also in East Europe.
    Try to have compassion for their unfamiliarity or uneasiness with different looking people. No need to take things like this too personal.

    It's actually a known fact that most Koreans esp the older ones don't find brown skin pleasing. Thus, SEA people could be discriminated in there. This holds me back from vising S.K. though I love EXO so much and wanna hoard merch instead of ordering online. I still wanna go though.

    Well in germany people stare at you as well and they won´t stop, even if you stare back at them. But, they will not stare at you, because you look like a foreigner but speak a different language and they simply wanna know, where you´re from. The photo thing is very creepy though.

    On vacation in Italy my group was stopped all the time because my friend had platinum blonde hair and looked a lot like Marilyn Monroe,,,.. People were always polite but it allowed is a lot of perks. Once, we were stopped by the owner of a leather store and invited to his store to try on coats and he broke out the wine, it was really a lot of fun. Another time we were taking a hovercraft to Capri and an entire soccer team sat with us and invited us to their game.

    I am different, I stare back and have a staring contest. I am of mixed origin...(Black, White, and Native American) I am used to it...Americans stare as well. But I LOVE Differences between cultures and try to learn and appreciate it. Now, I am trying to find love of a Korean-American man and appreciate his culture and friendship...😆

    Can you just ask them to stop staring or like trying to be sly to take pictures of you? You know? Like I don’t give consent to strangers doing that cause that’s creepy as heck and uncomfortable.
    If they don’t stop and it gets on my nerves I might just have to do the same to them so they know how it feels to be under a “microscope” for them to understand how we feel if they don’t stop.
