    I've been drinking beer every day for 2 years now (essentially since I started a brewery). I'm 20 pounds heavier than I was, and most of that is fat. I'm doing 20-30 minutes of moderate to intense cardio 6 days a week and eat pretty healthy. I had a physical last year. I told my doctor (honestly) about my lifestyle. When he got my lab results, he did a pleasantly surprised "wow", saying that blood pressure and cholesterol were excellent. He said I could stand to lose 20 pounds, but then asked if I thought I'd be happier 20 pounds lighter. If that meant cutting out beer, I'd say no.
    I've had family members that never smoked, never drank, and died young from health issues. I've had family members that smoke and drink heavily and live long lives. Everyone is different and everyone's body is different. I think you just have to live life the best you can - be kind to yourself and others.

      That's a good analysis within your second paragraph.. I think balance is important for everyone but of course some people can handle less alcohol and others can handle more alcohol and still function at a high level. It depends. I will say though, that while I was on streaks of sobriety for multiple months at a time, everything was better. Still missed the taste of beer though on those streaks.

      Undisciplined drinking leads to inconsistent discipline. So if going cold turkey is your way of maintaining discipline then power to you, you're way better at it than most. But if you're able to control both aspects equally I think there's a healthy balance to be had as well. Mad respect either way.

    • @hamesjetfield0
      @hamesjetfield0 2 года назад

      @@XleperXmessiahX depends on how heavy. For me, it was between a quart and a half of whisky a night for a few years. Cold turkey didn't cause DTs, but it messed up my sleep for about a month (like being able to sleep once every 2 days).
      Your results may vary though. React very fast if you do get DTs. They can be fatal. I did cold turkey because I had Klonopin for emergencies (didn't end up needing it thankfully).

    some people can do it. Most people should not do it, in my opinion, as I discovered for myself. I tried the, ‘drinking 2 beers every day or several days a week’ for probably about a year, more or less. What I discovered about myself is that I was actually like, some sort of “low level” alcoholic, if such a thing can exist, because I did not like, drink ten beers a day or anything like that. But even drinking two or three a day every day or at least a few times a week for many months as I did, affected my functionality very, very negatively. All that to say that, I certainly still love a good craft beer, just, in much much more moderation, like, once a week or once every couple weeks kind of moderation.

    This interests me cause I've been drinking too much beer since last year since around January I started going out to the shop just to get 6 - 8 beers and drink them the same day, recently less like 1-2 a day if at all. I did gain weight, but I think that has more to do with also being out less due to what's been going on and not working due to depression. I'm on the up and up now though and will start working soon.

    I skipped some of this, so perhaps it was discussed, but much of the craft beer these days is higher abv than it was even 3 years ago. So when we say 'one or two beers per day' that could mean 1-2 beers at 8oz with 5.5% alcohol, or that could mean 1-2 16oz beers at 11% alcohol. And that is a pretty big difference. So if the latter is true, you're effectively drinking what would be considered to be 4 beers, every day, at a higher than average abv. *went back, it was discussed! Great job!

    Saying beer has empty carbs is a bit misleading. Beer carbs are maltose which is longer chain carb than for example sucrose or fructose. Beer also has some amount of protein ranging usually from around 0.4g/dl to as high as over a gram per desiliter which can put beer protein content (per calorie) as high as 7-8% which is close to the level of rice and potato. Beer also has vitamins and minerals in it, so calories are not as "empty" as you would have in something like soda or candies.

    I am sceptical of those 'benefits', is it not maybe the case that being a moderate drinker just precludes you from being an excessive drinker by definition and all those risk factors are for excessive consumption i.e. drinking moderately isn't the benefit, *not drinking excessively* is just not to your detriment?

    • @darrylschultz6479
      @darrylschultz6479 2 года назад

      When moderate drinking is said to have benefits, it's of course in comparison to not drinking at all-not in comparison to heavy drinking. The latter would be too obvious to need to be pointed out.

    The prolonged life & lots of other supposed health benefits of moderate alcohol consumption are statistical artifacts: At the baseline of zero intake are for one recovering alcoholics, who will probably have (also) had some health related reason to quit drinking. Additionally, when your health really goes south, you often times have to quit alcohol and a lot of other substances like nicotine etc. altogether, which adds another selection of people to the non-drinkers who are not unhealthy because they don't drink but don't drink because they are unhealthy.
