- Bit more of a vlog style video this week as I venture east on I-90 towards Cle Elum, Wa. I make a pit stop at one of my favorite locations, Snoqualmie Pass, to shoot sunrise and attempt to get the back story on the ~infamous~ Snoqualmie Pass Van. I continue east and stop in Cle Elum to shoot a roll of Ektar 100 through my Bronica SQ and am left with one of my favorite photos I've taken recently. Hope you enjoy!

Music Used in This Video (Order of Appearance):
Dawn Comes Slow by Josh Fuhrmeister
Crawling Back by Leon Laudenbach
Wrong Side of Town by Jake Schlegel
Human by The Hunts
"He drives a lowered Subaru WRX" he says as he sits in his lowered Subaru WRX. Love the vid as always
Hey now mine is stock as can be 😂
By far the best photography RUclips channel out there. The visuals, music, photos, storytelling are soooo good. Hope you find the backstory of that new parking lot snow wreck. And I fully agree, if the parking lot trend continues, that would make one hell of a photo book or zine. Cheers!
Thanks so much, it really means a lot. And yes, hoping to get the backstory on that one before it disappears haha
LOVE that shovel on the steps photo. Out of this world!
Thanks man!
not every day you get to type 'fantastic image of the frost on the tyre'. Loved the Lincoln in the snow detail shots too. Great video - thanks
Thanks Mark!
Man these videos are so inspiring to to go out and shoot or document just normal things. Feeling the urge to go out and shoot a roll of whatever stock is in my fridge just for the sake of it, is the very thing that drew me into film photography. Celebrating a moment always felt like time stops for a brief moment. I am getting all sentimental in this bitch but I am glad that you and other people are still enjoing this kind of art! Keep up the good work and stay safe!
Haha totally agree Rudolf! That’s what makes photography great. Always room for sentiment around here. All the best dude 👊🏻
Sheesh your choice of music, editing and photos never stop amazing me.
Also that Ektar does some serious slapping.
Thank you Alex 👊🏼
So glad you found that spark again. Really love the work that you do and looking forward to seeing how the rest of this year goes for you!
Thank you Sidney!
Another wonderful journey yet again. You bring inspirations to me every single time I watch your videos, Brae.
So glad to hear that sir, thank you!
The BEST. Love your videos! Talented guy.
Thank you!
Great Video, love the storytelling, atmosphere and general videography and the music that supports all of that so good! (not to mention the photos are damn good as well)
Thank you Jonathan!
Awesome video as always Brae! That ektar does look nice as well! Have a good week!
Thanks Derek! Ektar doin its thing!
Just got my film photography inspiration back with this video. Thank you!
Let's go! Love to hear that :)
This was a great video dude! I'm glad you got a vague story about the infamous van, and I loved the Ektar shots! Not enough people give that film enough credit. Also i use that same top handle on my video rig and love it!
Thanks dude! Might try to hunt down the owner and see if we can get a little more detail. Appreciate the comment 😎
Nice one again, Brae. Loved the pensive insights into your decisions of what to take pictures of. Hadn‘t you talked about it I couldn‘t have told from the shots you shared in the previous videos. So I hope you keep your spirits up for future videos. Also loved the colours of the Ektar pictures. They seemed much more consistent with the colours of the digital footage imho.
Looking forward to more pictures of the van replacement 😎
Thank you Christian! Appreciate the comment. Will be fun returning to photograph that poor car!
I get excited every time I see you post a video. You got some serious bangers in this one. Well fucking done.
Thanks Allyn!
your videos are definitely inspiring me to just drive around Pennsylvania and start shooting more. i'm only two and a half minutes in and i'm loving it already. thank you for the high quality content
Love to hear that!! Thank you :)
These have been getting me through the winter, thanks Brae ❤️
Glad to hear that, thanks Elias!
Such an enjoyable movie i loved every second and honestly the photos are insanely beautiful
Thanks 👏👏❤️
Thanks my dude!!
I love the photo at 13:00! Ektar is so good! Underrated.
Ektar is great! Thanks for the comment :)
17:04 “very film photographer of me. But you know what? I like it.”
That’s all the matters. Keep doing you, bud.
Also I’m getting some 4x5 Ektar from another photographer on Tuesday and I’m shooting the hell out of that shit.
Yes sir! What it’s all about.
And oh god yes 😍
I seem to take lots of photos of cars, boats and trucks completely overgrown with blackberry bushes which happens a lot here in Washington !
I took some 35mm photos of the Lincoln town car this past December, actually ended up being one off my favorite pics from a trip to the east side. good vid as always!
Oh right on! Excited to go back up and snag some images of it
That photo of the doorway with the two trees and the shovel is just divine, great photos and video as always Brae
Really love that one as well. Thanks, Samuel!
2:41 Summit Inn sign looks awesome those colors bro very uplifting also the ARROW sign at 12:16
Thanks Carlos!
@17:21 was a nice touch. Nice captures as always and terrific little video to showcase them. ~ Peter
Thank you very much Peter!
Damn, those colors are lovely bro.
Thanks sir 🤝
Fantastic video mate, shot at 1:50 is just fabulous. Fantastic upload.
Thank you :)
Dude, I just love your videos, another banger!
Really enjoyed the first shots from the video, the sunrise was great, and also the church shot you took from the middle of the road, super cool!
I just love Ektar, never really got on the Portra 400 train!
What you said about finding inspiration in mundane things, that happened to me when I started shooting Polaroids a few years ago, with the look of the photos it was pretty easy to make mundane things look interesting but like you say, it's good to get a new way of seeing everyday objects/places.
Oh and about the van: I really enjoyed the little investigation, kinda disappointing in the end because of the hotel manager but glad you found a successor for the van!
Yeah dude Ektar is fantastic! And might try to do some deeper digging on the van next time I'm up there haha. We will see. The successor should make for a good subject this winter. Thanks for the support man 👊🏼
Loved this! I did a similar trip some 6 years ago, drove east on I-90 through Snoqualmie Pass and ended up at Cle Elum. Unfortunately wasn’t a film shooter back then so only had a handful of iphone photos, but what a great small town to photograph!
It really is a beautiful little place!
Ah, yes! The Summit Inn! Reminds me of how long I've been following your channel. ✌️
Haha indeed Bob! One of the very first 😎
Loved the first ones in particular! Awesome work man, and I could not hold back my laugh when I saw there is a new sheriff aka forgotten car in town haha
Haha thank you Philip!
Another great video! I'm always impressed with the amount of work you put in to each video. I too, am a SmallRig user... great product! By the way, LOVE this channel, keep it up!!!
Thank you, much appreciated!!
wow
just wow
I hear you. Sometimes the fun just disappears. I'm glad you found the fun again because as much as I love your nature/landscape work what you have captured on this drive is some of my favourites of yours. That last 'throw away' of the old cars is an absolute banger. And you're right, people have to stop hating on Ektar, it's such an underrated film. Comes up a treat in the right conditions. If you're doing a print run soon I'll grab one of the old cars throw away and add another Hunziker to my collection.
Thank you Brett! 🙏🏼
This is art !!
Thanks Emily!
Love it!!
Thanks buddy
Absolutely love the picture at 12:46! I really like that aesthetic
Thank you Michael!
Music! And the video is dope!! 👊🏼
Thanks :)
love the vlogs man
Thanks dude!
You are a magician my dude ❤️
haha thank you :)
Get excited every time I see a new Brae video and he never disappoints! Appreciate you bro
Thanks so much 🙏🏻
nice pics 👍
Thanks Chris!
I miss the snow covered van !!!!
me too, me too :/
As another photographer, always working, stressing, editing, and shooting....you get burnt our and caught up in the struggles of trying to make it. Brae's videos always makee forget about all that and makes me want to shoot again
That is all I could ever hope for, thank you Drake ❤️ all the best 👊🏻
When you're a stranger in a small town taking pictures and asking too many questions you could end up mysteriously disappearing like that van.
Man I was hoping for an epic adventure story for that van haha, great video and photos as always dude 👊🏽 inspiring us to go out and get creative 😊
Also, definitely going to try Ektar after seeing those shots
Haha yeah such a bummer, oh well... and definitely go give Ektar a try!
Another banger from the man himself
Thank you ❤️
This video was just such a vibe all the time - loved that convo with the hotel reception. So unfortunate that no one seems to know the story about the van😔
Anyway, great video Brae!
Quite unfortunate indeed :/ Thank you though bro! Was a fun day. Cheers 🤠
another fantastic video If i wasn't living in Australia id love to come out on a shoot with you one time keep doing what your doing :)
Thank you! Really appreciate that!
Hello from Greece. I just discovered your channel. Nice video. I have been photographing on film (now more medium format) for all my life & even if you re picky, with these prices of film nowadays which continue to go higher & higher, it's getting unbearable to keep on photographing often. Thus, it's the first time that I'm thinking seriously to save for a fujifilm GFX50 set for example.
Awesome vid…but sad regarding “the van”. I blame Summit Inn…where vehicles are brought to mystically disappear! LOL
Haha right? What’s happening at this place 👀
I've gotten to that point of being really critical of each frame -- often second-guessing, "is this even good? Is it worth it?" It can be such a downer, but I can't recommend enough having a 35mm as a backup. Sometimes just snapping that shutter can remind me that it's still fun to take photos. Awesome vid. Great vibes as usual.
Totally agree! It really does help. Feels good to not set the bar too high 👍🏼
We’re just glad you didn’t get shot last year!...... always a good watch with amazing photos
haha as am I! 😂 Thanks guys 👊🏼
Awesome. You got some solid shots all in one video. Glad it caused a spark to rekindle the passion. Now hopefully that Cadillac owner doesn't rekindle his sense of car responsibilities 😂
Hahaha right!? 😂
Loving your videos mate, I was wondering, what luts are you using for you video clips? Looks absolutely amazing!
Brae,
Thanks for the video, great job!
Two things:
1-Portra can suck it and you showed that with the Ektar. The shot of the garage was money! and the shots around Cle Elum had amazing colors.
2-Dump the medium format for a show and shoot that Olympus. The Olympus has a great lens and with Fuji in it the images you shared are great!
Just my two cents, next time, rather than blowing east on 90 why don’t you run up Five. Great spots on Whidbey Island. Deception Pass and Rosario Beach for starters.
Once again great job on your videos.
Thanks for the feedback Greg! I agree, that Olympus 35 is a great little cam. And I definitely need to go explore Whidbey Island and the San Juans more. Looks incredible up there!
Legend has it that this van was one of the Pillars Of Creation. Since it broke down and dissappeared we all became one step closer to the apocalypse.
🤣🤣🤣
Love Cle Elum
Rad little town!
Amazing video! Keep them coming man 🤠 I have a question for you, did you overexpose the shots around 16:30?
Thanks! And no, all box speed :)
Time stamp - 6:54. Brae we shouldn't be so surprised by how disposable things have become through out our own lives or those people we know or don't know all around us....even when it comes to the old cars we mange to abandon to the whimsy of the elements, or a place in time. Inextricably our lives are all somehow tied to the places and the things we value, some intimate some not so much. We as a society have been bread on the idea that inanimate objects or "things" don't really matter, but the experiences we get from they're use leaves indelible marks on us all. Similarly photography lets us capture those few precious moments of time with those places or things, even if we leave them behind. And you're right about wanting to get the story of why, or who left the van behind, or where did it go, it neatly fills in the blanks, and fulfills our desire to know, to understand, to grow as people.
Wow, this was incredibly well said. Feel like I just read a piece from a societal philosopher haha!! It’s always special being able to capture images of objects with unknown, rich history.
The baby blue RV picture was gorgeous! Also, do you only use a 70-200 lens for video or do you have a wider lense aswell?
Thanks dude! Mostly shoot with the sigma 18-35 and occasionally throw the 70-200 on there
Wow, interesting video as usual, vill you Tell me what is the camera you have in your hand that 6:50?
Olympus 35rc
Hey Dude, just stumbled across your chanel, subscribed and really kinda fell in love with the videos. Amazing work you're producing digital and anlogue here.
i'm 'bout to get me a Bronica SQ-A or Ai soon. What kinda lens do you use on it and do you have any advice for me? Thanks alot and greetings from germany
Thanks very much! I use the 65mm and it's probably my favorite lens I've used on medium format. I'd really recommend getting a chimney finder, the light meter is insanely accurate! Cheers!
@@BraeHunziker Thanks alot for your reply. looks like the chimney is pretty hard to find. i was looking for the WLF version with external metering. But will keep my eyes open for the chimney. thanks again
I have used Ektar and it works best when there is enough sunlight like bright sun you see from 10am-1pm. The colors are vivid and to my opinion beats Portra in those lighting conditions. But sadly when it’s like low light it does not work well. But yea I won’t be hating on Ektar. It has its strengths.
Yeah Ektar is fantastic!!
Happiness is a warm Olympus OM1..... after a few adult beverages.
Brae the greatest goat of all time
Thank you sir haha
The van lives on in Google Maps street view of the Summit Inn. Image is from July 2019 so it may be replaced soon. Take a screen capture while you can Brae.
hahah no way 😂
Your speech hit me hard bro 😭
you can litteraly create a book about that van
Would have loved to had it stayed a little longer :’)
Ektar gets so much unnecessary hate. I have been shooting a project traveling around California since early 2019 with my Hassy and Ektar and it just feels right. Loved your Ektar results here.
Agreed Chris, stuff is awesome. And that project sounds awesome as well 🤠
here we go another episode of "Brae's Adventures in Pink Snow".
🤠
For your next Q&A: When are you going to buy a Leica M6? As a RUclips film photographer, you must....!
hahah that purchase is quite far off for me 😂
Brother.. let’s get a full 35mm vid asap
haha might have to!
Shooting 35 definitely takes the pressure off. Might help to bring a roll loaded up with you when shooting 120. I do it occasionally. I wish we got that much snow here. As always great video. P.S. That's story about the drunk guy was fucking cringe lmao
Definitely going to start bringing a roll of 35 with me! I really enjoyed it. Thanks Jeremy 👊🏼
Sorry gear related question, do you recommend your tripod?
They started making a new version of it and it kinda sucks now lol, so no I don't recommend it unfortunately
@@BraeHunziker Thanks Brae needed a quick answer so appreciate it! Finally watched the video in full and loved in, beautiful photos and storytelling
The van of an employee ends up sitting in the parking lot and him never taking it back? The manager being suspiciously brief in his answers? Same thing happening this year? We might be onto something way bigger here..
Holy shit how did I not realize this 😳 I think more questions are in order
🤙🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻
👊🏻
We haven’t had any snow this winter, I’m just gonna pretend like I’m not jealous
Haha noooo 😂😭
what point and shoot is that?
Olympus 35 RC
How r u?- that is perfect view~ Brae~😍
Thanks!
We all know Brae is the one leaving cars up there to rot so he can make that photo book
Hey now 👀🤫
U should steal the van 😈
Wait nvmrd 😢 will miss the van
hahah very sad day :(
who the heck hates Ektar? it's one of the best film ever.
The Ektar haters are out there...
