I know a lot of folks make fun of Gleaners, for whatever reason, but they are very popular over here in Oklahoma and Kansas. Come wheat harvest time, you'll see them all over the place. And you'll see them all, too; L, N, R, and S series are all plentiful around here. Hope you like the S97!

He was certainly pleased to see it on your place and brought back a lot of useful memories for him.
It will be most interesting to see it work but remember when making comparisons with other machines it will be a bit like comparing apples with oranges if your making comparison judgements about capacities.

A combine is a combine, it's the dealer that'll make the difference in brand loyalty. We sold Allis-Chalmers Tractors & Gleaner Combines in Elkhart Kansas under the name Cameron Imp. and we had a reputation of not gouging on sells and come repair time we never worked on the flat rate repair time, my dad stressed he didn't care how long it took us to get the repair finished that he didn't want the whatever we fixed to come back to the shop on account of our negligence that the customer can't make money with his equipment in the shop all the time and it worked, we had a great bunch of customers that totally trusted us and it kinda became like a huge family. Some customers you would see daily, them coming in to drink coffee and bullsh!t, some you'd see once a month some yearly and some every five years or so. It was the best time of my life as a young man growing up in the 80's. I wish Allis-Chalmers wouldn't have sold to Deuts ( or however it's spelled ) a German company and then I think it sold to Argo-Allis or something like that. We just didn't think we could sell our customers after they'd used water cooled engines their whole lives an air-cooled engine for Fram equipment. So dad didn't renew his contract and after that we just became a repair shop of sorts repairing stuff we'd sold for years. I could go on and on bout this subject, but the Rotary Gleaner Combine of today is really on top of their game. It's really all about the dealer not the color of the machine.

It really is that easy to pull the rotor. We pulled the rotor in our R-65 4 years ago to change the bars. I am curious to see how well it does in soybeans! You don't have to worry about corn , that machine will eat all the corn you can throw at it and the sample will be cleaner than a Deere or Lexion.

Brian - The previous comments already addressed it, but I'm going to say it again - Never seen Bob happier, talk about an old memories flash back, we couldn't be happier for him. Tell it straight, did he sleep in the cab that night? I'm thinking that has the 7 cylinder engine. I will be interested in your comments on how smooth or not it is and how it pulls. Been long time since I've been around Gleaner, but they should be a solid machine. Thanks for going to all the work to get the demos, including the Ideal you have out there for us (and of course for Brown Farms). The Ideal is also an impressive machine. There is some good manufacture competition out there. The local dealer support will sometimes be deciding factor, not the color.

  • @johnertel2957
    @johnertel2957 4 года назад +4

It was always my experience that capacity, when it came to threshing, was never a problem with the Gleaner. The throat may be narrow but it’s fast. The drawback I saw on our R52, was that it simply did not have enough chaffer and sieve area, when you got into 200+ b/p/a corn. But it was only a class 5 machine and Gleaners have increased the size of the chaffer and sieve area since that time.
It’s a very simple and light machine. Also, I like the Massey Ferguson which is a heavier combine, but even simpler than a Gleaner, and even fewer moving parts. Both are very good AGCO products. I have a 2011 Massey Ferguson 9695 which was one of the last combines to not have DEF on it. It came down to a choice between that and an S67. Plenty of threshing &separation area, and it produces a surprisingly clean grain sample for the limited number of moving parts. Also, the Massey Ferguson & Gleaner have the simplest unloading auger systems. Can’t wait to hear your thoughts on the Gleaner.
By the way, your Dad is 100% correct on the benefits of a transverse rotor in a Gleaner on hillsides. (Not the up-and-down kind, the ones you have to run canted on or leaning side to side.). Definitely less grain loss on hillsides with the transverse rotor. Also, the position of that rotor essentially right at the rear lower portion of the clean grain tank allows for the grain tank to sit lower and keep your center of gravity lower. This gives a much more stable feeling on hillsides, than you’ll find in most axial rotor combines, especially if you're running singles rather than duals.

Now, I have no experience with the super series but the F, L, K, M, were great when set up properly, the N was the first transverse rotor, i liked it a lot. When they released the SS I was an immediate fanboy. They beefed up and simplified the transverse design and did stuff like triple chrome the wear parts. For me the design just makes sense. Our Gleaner just eats it up and puts the green beans in the hopper. The Gleaner with a full hopper weighs as much as an empty John Deere. Had doubts at first but now we really like the engine in that combine. We have a JD dealer a mile from the farm but drive 45 minutes for our Gleaner dealer. We love the gleaner! You won’t regret it!

I’ve always loved the gleaner. I use to have custom cutters cut my grain with gleaners and they cut much faster and the sample was cleaner. It also didn’t throw hardly anything out the back. I bought an old Massey 750 and ran that for a while and the bought an old 1440 international until the engine blew up. I then bought a old 1480 which I still run. Last winter we did some modifications on the rotor and gaffers and sieves. We put some disrupters on the cage so it will separate more grain befor it goes out the back end. The sieve and chaffer we blocked part to force more air in the right place. It took us a bit to get it set but it cleans so much better. Funny thing is we bought a R62 Gleaner with a Draper head. Low hours. It cuts like a champ. Beautiful machine.

Love to see the gleaner. I have had a M2 N6 R52 and current R62. By far the worst one was the N6 the R62 is very nice. I watch you videos alot and rember your dad talking about them. This Demo will be light years better than the N5 he had. Good luck and keep up the content. Let BJ try it also.

Farmers aren't enemies, they are competitors who help each others. They know that competition improves the genre.

Wishing you good luck with the Gleaner.
Just keep in mind the Gleaners made in USA the Claas made in Germany and the Fendt Ideal made in Italy so where is it going to be the easiest place and fastest place for you guys to get parts.
For gods sake‘s Agco get a corn header for these guys to try how do you expect to sell a combine if you don’t give them the options that they need to judge what combine they’re going to buy!

Very exited to see this demo. If we had any dealer presence we would probably have a gleaner.

I'd love to see a good Gleaner dealer back in Eastern NC. We have several AGCO dealers but none carry the Gleaner brand. 15 years ago they were very popular in our area.

Dad sure seemed to be happy about the gleaner being in the yard. Maybe simple & smaller is just as good as big & technology.
